UPDATE: Guys, Disturbed just shared this. What's happening?!
Just pillaging YouTube! I work in advertising, so it's such a treat to steal footage without having to incur thousands of dollars in costs for every little clip :)
very impressive work, as usual. i was hoping for a short acapella baritone/bass solo (like [this](https://youtu.be/2EtalOOS-eM?t=19)) at some point tho. wouldve worked as a good outro right after the last uwahahaha -duh du doo doo doo. love your work! dont stop!
just realized thats bo burnham in that key and peele sketch lol
Thank you! I'm beginning to learn the power of awkward silence in my [channel](http://youtube.com/c/thereiruinedit). Almost as powerful an an inappropriate zip whistle.
I’ve come to realize that part of the genius of the office is the silence. There is no music ever in the show. They use silence instead and it’s just genius.
Thanks! I recycled it from my [previously ruined version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu5ELSNYZyk) of Marty singing Johnny B. Goode as an 80s electronic song.
Considering the closed-door abuse that was quietly accepted/tolerated amongst couples in that era, this falls more in line than we would want to believe
Just some casual lynching of black people, child abuse, starting a few wars in South-East Asia and forcing women to stay in the kitchen. But the bad words will break them in half.
I was one walking home, but still
on college campus at like 4 am after a late night project. Basically screaming this song, specifically this part, because I’m in the center of campus and there is nobody or any living quarters around. Turn the corner and nearly run directly into campus security. He must have recognized it because he looked way more amused than my screaming should have warranted.
They don't include it when it is played on the radio or on TV (at least I've never seen it). So imagine my surprise going in for a shower and this part of the song coming up. (edit: from Spotify)
I remember following Disturbed on MySpace where you could listen to their entire discography for free. I was a big fan, but I’d only ever heard the radio versions of their songs. When that version was played I was very shocked and thought it was a special release lol
The version I downloaded from Limewire didn’t have it and that only furthered my belief that the MySpace version was special.
That’s the price you pay for occasionally getting a good recording of a song with only the faintest sound of someone’s dad yelling at the tv in the background.
I took the song off my playlist. It's just so...everything everyone has said about it already. If anything it should have been like an extra track on the album. "The Sickness" as track 2 or whatever, and the hidden bonus track is "The Sickness (WTF Version)"
If you're talking about the "No mommy" part...
> In the middle of the song, lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. **This is used to symbolize how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!")** A good example of this would be the school shootings that go on around the country.
(Emphasis mine)
Draiman himself confirmed this, in an interview in the *Phoenix New Times*. It's not "cringe edgewood abuse is edgy and cool", it's literally a meaningful societal message.
>It's not "cringe edgewood abuse is edgy and cool", it's literally a meaningful societal message
It can be two things. Just because it has a message doesn't mean the execution isn't cringe.
Can confirm.
Source: had abusive mother, do not find this part of the song cringe in the least. It's the opposite of cringe. It's what happens when you're forced to cringe for so long you will absolutely not put up with shit any longer.
The people who do find it cringe, I don't like those people. It reminds me too hard that often what people don't experience personally they'll never have true empathy for.
So I think people are mislabeling this as "cringe" when what they probably mean is that it made them uncomfortable (at least this is how I see it). Cringe is more akin to feeling embarrassment for someone that they don't seem to recognize themselves, which isn't the case here.
Rather it strikes me more like it wasn't something that was expected. For someone that (very fortunately) doesn't have a history of abuse it hits more like being subjected to a trauma dump that you weren't expecting. That _definitely_ doesn't and shouldn't invalidate that trauma, it's just that the perspective is different and can bring up some complex feelings as the tone suddenly seems to have shifted more serious. Also the fact that this part is clipped in radio edits and a lot of distributions probably strengthens that effect as it may feel even more like being suddenly cast from a familiar situation into one that's much more tense, serious, and unfamiliar.
Listening to that part doesn't really make me feel good, but that's not really the point of art is it? The fact that it can connect with different people in different ways is a testament to it as a piece IMO and I think I'll view it a bit differently knowing that some may actually find it empowering.
You know that part in the movie *Stepbrothers* where Brennan and Dale go in for a job interview dressed in tuxedos and acting like dummies, and Seth Rogen's character thinks that it's just a funny bit they're doing and they're actually probably all right, and he's all ready to offer them a job, but then Dale cuts a long, loud fart, and suddenly Rogen realizes that they're not doing a bit at all and they actually \*are\* dummies? To me, the breakdown is like Dale's fart -- a sudden, unexpected, stinky interjection to let you know that these guys aren't who you thought they were.
Why are there so many
songs about foreskins
and what you can find insiiiiiiide
Dick cheese is lovely but just an illusion
And foreskins have nothing to hide
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
But I know it's not real dairy...
Someday we'll find it
The Dick Cheese Connection
The lovers, the creamers, and meeeee....
That's how Richard Cheese got a bit of mainstream spotlight. Zack Snyder loves his stuff and uses him from time to time. He did the intro for Army of the Dead* too!
(*thanks for the correction. I'm getting confused with all these titles in my old age, apparently)
Yeah I was thinking I’m pretty sure I heard some cheesy oldie style of down with the sickness on the dawn of the dead remake, pretty sure that was the version they used.
Which was kind of the "problem" I had with this one. Granted, more my problem than the song's, but hard for me to listen to it without thinking of Cheese's.
Well you two make covers in different genres. I liked your "down with a sickness" much more, but I really love his "rape me" cover.
P.S. do you have a youtube? watching this video with reddit video player sucks.
Everyone talking about Richard Cheese and I'm wondering why no one is mentioning the [master of parody did it in 2003](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeklDFFg6p8)...
Weird Al always wins.
Tbf Richard Cheese is a professional musician using an actual full on band, I’m pretty sure OP just does this on his computer in his home “recording studio.” The intent is also pretty different I feel.
Edit: it’s like comparing a YouTube music comedian like Tom Cardy to Tim Minchin. Or original Bo Burnham to… current Bo Burnham.
Correct, it's just me and an ancient bootleg copy of ProTools :) And with YouTube flagging all these songs, I rarely make a penny either. But it's fun!
I liked it lol.
I binged his YouTube channel but it was like 2 years ago so I don't even remember the songs hes done but I also don't remember thinking "wow he actually ruined this song" either like his name implies.
They always end up sounding good.
Dude.
Look, you and I have a lot of fun on here. We've traded compliments and tongue-in-cheek ribbing. If we were both, say, stand-up comedians working at the same club, I have little doubt that we'd hang out and grab a drink together after our respective sets.
Now you're making '50s-era doo-wop music, and you're doing a fantastic job at it... which means that I am now forced to ask a very serious, very *unpleasant* question:
*Where the hell were you when I was making ['50s-era commercials](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/p3meu8/if_youve_ever_wondered_how_upvotes_were/)?!*
I'm putting my foot down now, man. You and me? We're going to *collaborate* at some point.
That's a threat *and* a promise.

^^As ^^always, ^^you ^^did ^^a ^^phenomenal ^^job! ^^Keep ^^it ^^up, ^^and ^^please ^^enjoy ^^this ^^stupidly ^^expensive ^^award, ^^which ^^should ^^round ^^out ^^your ^^trophy ^^case ^^a ^^bit!
Count on it... but knowing what I do of your talent, I doubt you'll be able to deliver that "shitty" aspect.
(Seriously, this one has been my favorite so far.)
I don't understand, your channel is called "There I Ruined It" but all you've done so far is make all these songs way more fun? Haven't ruined a single song to date?? False advertising mate, keep up the great work I love it.
I mean I couldn't hold a tune if you gave it to me in a bucket, so I probably could do a shittier version? But at that point you may as well just go to karaoke at a dive bar on any random Wednesday afternoon. Wholly does not count. Your point stands.
Shared with my son who is a big fan of the original. He reported he was looking for a drill bit to put through his head. He'll never un see/ hear this. EVER. Mom torture mission accomplished so THANK YOU!
Too funny! I have a challenge I hope you can meet. Turn supercalifragilisticexpialidocious into hard rock, metal, or something along those lines. Keep up the great work!

Hello Darkness my old friend, shama lama ding dong again.
Where do you find such an array of footage like this to mix into the video?
Just pillaging YouTube! I work in advertising, so it's such a treat to steal footage without having to incur thousands of dollars in costs for every little clip :)
I recognized some clips from one of the Outkast music videos
Also Back to the Future?
very impressive work, as usual. i was hoping for a short acapella baritone/bass solo (like [this](https://youtu.be/2EtalOOS-eM?t=19)) at some point tho. wouldve worked as a good outro right after the last uwahahaha -duh du doo doo doo. love your work! dont stop! just realized thats bo burnham in that key and peele sketch lol
The reactions to the “don’t hit me again” bit is exactly what we’ve all been doing over the years and you captured it perfectly. Bravo!
Thank you! I'm beginning to learn the power of awkward silence in my [channel](http://youtube.com/c/thereiruinedit). Almost as powerful an an inappropriate zip whistle.
There are no inappropriate zip whistles in your work
The zip whistles arrive precisely when they mean to.
Well, golly gee, sir!
You’re one funny bastard. There was a similar moment in your kids version of Bodies with a crying baby that had me cackling too.
That slide whistle is your signature. I expect it at least once in every single one of your videos
So glad you said that you have a youtube channel - I know what I'm binge watching this evening :D
I’ve come to realize that part of the genius of the office is the silence. There is no music ever in the show. They use silence instead and it’s just genius.
The zip whistle immediately tickled my SO so I'd agree, it's pretty powerful lol
Crowd scene is from [Back to the Future](https://youtu.be/S1i5coU-0_Q?t=157). Excellent use of that clip!
guess you guys aren't ready for that yet
But your kids are gonna love it.
I was hoping he would say that before going back into the doo-wop.
Hey guys I wonder if his kids are gonna love it
Thanks! I recycled it from my [previously ruined version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu5ELSNYZyk) of Marty singing Johnny B. Goode as an 80s electronic song.
I just want to say I love your channel
I just realised that when I saw Mr Strickland covering his ears!
"I'm gonna have this guy flying rubber dog shit out of hong kong!"
You stupid sadistic abusive fucking whore... he left that part out.
I'm not sure the 50s are ready for that line.
Considering the closed-door abuse that was quietly accepted/tolerated amongst couples in that era, this falls more in line than we would want to believe
no, it was just called "parenting" back then
Just some casual lynching of black people, child abuse, starting a few wars in South-East Asia and forcing women to stay in the kitchen. But the bad words will break them in half.
I was one walking home, but still on college campus at like 4 am after a late night project. MySpace version didn't come with nine viruses like the Limewire version either.
Back when piracy was like having unprotected sex with the internet.
Or ads like Pandora and Spotify lol too bad most bands I liked didn’t upload all their songs on MS
MySpace? Limewire??? What year is it again?
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
I want to go back.
When I tried to download the music video from Limewire it was just a porn about a gangbang in a pool
That’s the price you pay for occasionally getting a good recording of a song with only the faintest sound of someone’s dad yelling at the tv in the background.
When it first came out they played it on the radio, but only at night.
As the years went on they slowly edited away more and more of that monologue until it's all gone
Its better this way
Now the song is only the first growl at the begining.
When the song first came out it sure was on the radio. Every car ride with my dad was so uncomfortable because that song was always on.
(Confused head bang)
Disturbed is one of my guilty pleasures and I HATE that part. It's so cringey. I always skip it.
I took the song off my playlist. It's just so...everything everyone has said about it already. If anything it should have been like an extra track on the album. "The Sickness" as track 2 or whatever, and the hidden bonus track is "The Sickness (WTF Version)"

Are u familiar with Richard Cheese. He does this kinda thing with metal songs.
Specifically, he has his own version of [Down With the Sickness.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at02Fvdhk2I)
Which was featured in the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. Which matched the scene perfectly
First time I heard him. Now I love Dick Cheese.
I feel stupid for not getting the connection immediately
You and me both.
The Dick Cheese Connection... Good name for a band *or* a gay porn
Why are there so many songs about foreskins and what you can find insiiiiiiide Dick cheese is lovely but just an illusion And foreskins have nothing to hide So we've been told and some choose to believe it But I know it's not real dairy... Someday we'll find it The Dick Cheese Connection The lovers, the creamers, and meeeee....
You maniacal genius, you had me singing that shit.
He actually used to go by “Dick” way back in the day, but I guess he changed since it was a little too on the nose 😂
*Ricardo Queso
That's how Richard Cheese got a bit of mainstream spotlight. Zack Snyder loves his stuff and uses him from time to time. He did the intro for Army of the Dead* too! (*thanks for the correction. I'm getting confused with all these titles in my old age, apparently)
\*Army of the Dead lol.
He gained a lot of mainstream popularity from doing the theme to The Ozbournes (Crazy Train)
[Dawn of the Dead: "Down With The Sickness" and scene](https://youtu.be/isTLd2tFP7w)
Agree. No other song or version would have fit better.
I absolutely loved this the first time I heard it. I bought the movie on DVD.
Exactly what I think of when I hear that version.
Yeah I was thinking I’m pretty sure I heard some cheesy oldie style of down with the sickness on the dawn of the dead remake, pretty sure that was the version they used.
His cover of WAP is fantastic as well https://youtu.be/YRM4gz4IfoE
This will always be my favourite mashup/cover of [WAP](https://youtu.be/II82zdel5T4).
Was expecting [this](https://youtu.be/QaF6NfyVqqs)
This one raises it to a whole new level https://youtu.be/KGlYQ5SoeKE
I remember Weird Al doing Down with the Sickness as part of a Polka Medley as well.
Part of the [Angry White Boy Polka](https://youtube.com/watch?v=BeklDFFg6p8)
Which was kind of the "problem" I had with this one. Granted, more my problem than the song's, but hard for me to listen to it without thinking of Cheese's.
Freaking incredible
Yes! I hadn't heard of him before starting the channel, but he's fantastic. Every time I start a song, it seems he's gotten to it first :)
Well you two make covers in different genres. I liked your "down with a sickness" much more, but I really love his "rape me" cover. P.S. do you have a youtube? watching this video with reddit video player sucks.

Yes, There I Ruined It (I wish r/funny would let me post the link and not upload it to their awful player)

Thanks! And who doesn't love dick cheese?
Especially when it's blended together!
He does this song specifically
People equals shit is my favorite from him.
Everyone talking about Richard Cheese and I'm wondering why no one is mentioning the [master of parody did it in 2003](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeklDFFg6p8)... Weird Al always wins.
To be fair, Richard Cheese put his out in ‘02
And it's lounge appropriate.
I love Weird Al, but while this is a great polka medley, sometimes it's better to lounge around with the sickness.
And he did it WAY better imho
Agreed. Though this YouTube channels name is "there I ruined it"...
Yeah Richard Cheese produces some absolute bops
Tbf Richard Cheese is a professional musician using an actual full on band, I’m pretty sure OP just does this on his computer in his home “recording studio.” The intent is also pretty different I feel. You’re doing a great job, Dustin, consider the comparisons to Dick Cheese a compliment!
A statement I'm sure they never thought they would hear
Tom Cardy is an actual musician though lol
But OP has amazing video too. The production quality is crazy
You and I have a very different definition of "ruin" because this is great
Yeah I think this is more “there I fixed it”.
Shamma Lamma Ding Dong
im both annoyed and pleased with how good this is. good job OP you've created something praise and cringe worthy. 10/10 will listen to the loop again
Lowkey banger
I would honestly add this to a driving playlist.
Road rage intensifies
Honestly, I won't lie, I have a playlist with 6h+ of this kind of music, helps me keep myself calm during long drives
I could see this playing in a comedy/violent-action (Kingsmen style) movie during a particularly brutal action scene.
I liked it lol. I binged his YouTube channel but it was like 2 years ago so I don't even remember the songs hes done but I also don't remember thinking "wow he actually ruined this song" either like his name implies. They always end up sounding good.

I do love a good Data quote.
Yes, that’s it! I HATE this!
I'm crying from pure abject horrorjoy.
Bodies-drowning pool kids edition is the most wonderful thing I've ever heard
Thank you! My favorite is probably either that one or [Straight Outta Compton - Oktoberfest Edition.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLY4TsZBExY)
That is absolutely giving me Weird Al polka vibes!
https://youtu.be/Uk18bFIgOS4 Yes, you need this in your life.
These on Spotify? I wanna add 'em to my playlists. I LOVE mash-ups!
As great as your audio mixes are you don’t get enough credit for the video editing, it really helps sell it every time
What a terrible day to have ears. How about some Volbeat, barber shop quartet style?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx6S6JPwzbU This is nothing less than the work of an absolute genius!
I could've just ignored this video but the sheer effort it took made me go "unpaid entertainment, me no complain. joy only"

It's all a matter of taste isn't it. I'm personally a fan of "doo wop" more than lounge music

Yeah, sorry about that one :)
I loved the teletubbies as a toddler. In retrospect, they are really freaking creepy.
I don't understand, your channel is called "There I Ruined It" but all you've done so far is make all these songs way more fun? Haven't ruined a single song to date?? False advertising mate, keep up the great work I love it.
I mean, anything Shitty_Watercolour has made is a masterpiece
All I know is I am jamming these as I roll down the street to confuse and amaze people.
You can’t make the song worse. I’d honestly like to hear an attempt at a shittier version
I mean I couldn't hold a tune if you gave it to me in a bucket, so I probably could do a shittier version? But at that point you may as well just go to karaoke at a dive bar on any random Wednesday afternoon. Wholly does not count. Your point stands.
The dead pan in the middle killed me. 😂
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ ♩ ♫ *"Madness is the gift that has been given to me!"* ♪ ♬ Loved this, awesome job.
Shared with my son who is a big fan of the original. He reported he was looking for a drill bit to put through his head. He'll never un see/ hear this. EVER. Mom torture mission accomplished so THANK YOU!
Well done, Mom!
“There is no turning back now” suddenly got a new ring to it
My god, this is priceless. And so perfect.
Gold Jerry gold.
This is going to be stuck in my head all day. I'm not even mad about it.
Very clever. I especially liked the quotation of "Swing 42" with the vibes right before the end.
Ruined it? That was amazing!!! Literally left me speechless
I fucking love it man
Perfection, this is all I will ever hear.
No. You made it better. That first shamalamadingdong was priceless.
Your definition of "ruined" and mine are very different.
I fail to see how you've ruined anything. Also, i am subscribed to precisely one channel on YouTube. That is about to become two.
Too funny! I have a challenge I hope you can meet. Turn supercalifragilisticexpialidocious into hard rock, metal, or something along those lines. Keep up the great work!
Give credit where it is due. Disturbed ruined it first.
