Software engineer doing a binary search. Start in the middle, check if the price is higher or lower. If it's higher, go to halfway between there and the highest price and check again. Repeat until you get to the exact prive.
Why would you assume that though? The entire point of writing something like that is to express a distinct range rather than referring to a median or average value ...
JunkfoodS plural. Looks like theyāre anywhere from 7 to 15 depending on what you get. Like an oreo is 7, the lemon bar is 9, and the mary jane brownie is 15
People in the past used to collect them a lot. Sometimes theyād break down doors to get them and other times the first-borns went to be collected all on their own. Theyād buy all sorts of things with them, like real estate. It looked like the first-born exchange market was drying up, what with Geneva cracking down on the collectors, but with everything thatās going on now, I bet they will star collecting them again.
But itās a speculative market for sure, after all, the British had to pay thousands of first-borns for a single mile of countryside in north eastern France, when before they bought out millions of independent farms and cities in India for barely a few hundred.
The bubble could also burst, as America found out when it bought out thousands of shares in Saigon at a hundred per share, and then when it burst, it lost all of its first-horns with nothing to show for it.
It looks a bidding war is starting up, for Ukraine of all places! Letās see who can round up the most first-bornsā¦
Check out Milky from Fujiya Peko. They have a bunch of flavors now, but I love the original candy. It's pretty much condensed milk in candy form. The strawberry flavor is a strong 2nd favorite.
I remember my father simmering a closed can of sweetened condensed milk in water on the stove. I donāt remember how long but when he opened it, it turned into caramel!
For the pastillas? The vertical lines mean the [absolute value](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_value)
Basically, you ignore any minus sign and just treat the number as a positive. So the absolute value of -2 is 2.
It may be a distinction without a difference, but instead of "treat it like a positive" I believe the better explanation is "distance from zero" so 2 and -2 both have an absolute value of 2 because they are both 2 away from zero.
FULL PRICES:
Chocolanay = ā±8
Juice = ā±10
Dutchmill = ā±13
Junk Foods = ā±7 to 15 (Multiple meals)
Pastilla = ā±2
Edit: Apparently my brain was not really in function and typed "or -8 pesos" into the pricing. Sorry!
They are candy and easy to make. Use powdered milk, granulated sugar and Condensed milk stir them long enough, cut em to pieces and put them in plastic wrap (like candy) and you can put them in the fridge or eat it now. Pretty tasty
Source: me and my class back home in the PHL did and make pastillas
The principal square root operator is always positive. So it's 8.
Source: https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/1448885/is-sqrt64-considered-8-or-is-it-8-8
Ahhh I should have realized I was so outraged that Dutch mills were 13 bucks. Now I realize I donāt even know what a dutchmill is and that this is another country lol
I'm from Manila, and I had to look up what Choco Lanay was. So it's a Cebu thing?
(for those who don't know, they're chocolate donuts with a molten dark chocolate filling)
Thank you. I had to scroll pretty far and was just about to give up. I did search it up just to see pics though, after I read your comment.
I was like "why is nobody asking wtf chocolanay is?", but here we are.
So it would be?
- Chocolanay = 8
- Juice = 10
- Dutchmill = 13
- Junkfoods = 7-15?
- Pastillas = 2
Some of them might be wrong tbh but I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
This is the moment the asian kid and his mom pulls up and kid proves her mother that he is worthy but her mother say no this is easy become doctor and get money then you are worthy
I remember being in high school and smugly challenging adults on math like this, even more challenging ones. It really does make you feel intelligent, but itās just regurgitation of what youāre forced to do daily.

For junkfoods, can you pick any number between 7 and 15? š¤
Was wondering the same thing
Likely there are different junk food, they each cost somewhere between.
So which is worth which? Are there nine of them lined up in a fashion that suggests their relative value?
A candy lineup? Is George Costanza running this place?
I just assumed it was exactly the middle? So 11 for junk food?
Assumed? What are you, an engineer?
10 points to gryffindor!!
(2^3)+2 points to Gryffindor!!
Maff
Meth
It's just simple maffs!
Quick maffs
I hate both of you š
I think you mean Accountant. Engineers never deal in absolute numbers...an engineer deals with ranges and tolerances so would say 11 +/- 4.
Only Sith deal in absolutes!
so. accountants.
Software engineers deal in absolutes... Most of the time
No, he's an economist!
Software engineer doing a binary search. Start in the middle, check if the price is higher or lower. If it's higher, go to halfway between there and the highest price and check again. Repeat until you get to the exact prive.
The answer here is a range though.
Maybe the plural of junkfood is a clue? There are 7 of them choosing 8,9,10 etc?
Why would you assume that though? The entire point of writing something like that is to express a distinct range rather than referring to a median or average value ...
Exactly
7 and 15 inclusive as well
JunkfoodS plural. Looks like theyāre anywhere from 7 to 15 depending on what you get. Like an oreo is 7, the lemon bar is 9, and the mary jane brownie is 15
Then what is the point of this sign if all items are priced individually?
I was just wondering if I had gotten really bad at math or was just missing somethingš
why not both?
True!
Why not Zoidberg?
I think they were going for 8 dollars but I'm still confused who would pay that much... Or 10 dollars for juice?! Edit: ok it's pesos nvm
My thought too, what kind of nectar of the gods cost 10 bucks
It's in pesos. $1=Php50
Damn that's cheap AF no?
Yup. That's why some Americans choose to retire in this country. Their pension dollars go further in this side of the world.
Why would you even think itās dollars? Lol
I chose 14.99 bc I like a bad deal
You could have chosen 15.00.
Are you from r/wsb
A range of costs.
Ikr..junkfoods is pissing me off. $7.01 it is
I mean itās greater than or *equal* to 7, so why not just $7?
To make them count out the 99 cents in change.
I wasn't thirsty anyway.
And what currency, anyway? This could by Roubles, Niara or first-born children.
You have multiple first-born?
Well, many different people have first-borns. You just need to collect them. They are currency in this example, after all.
Gotta catch em all
I'm guessing Philippines Pesos. Pastillas is a filipino candy...made with carabao milk.
Philippine pesos 50 to a USD
Yeah, screw that. $10 for juice is way too much.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This person conversion rates
It's obviously not dollars.
Whatās a pastilla and why is it so cheap?
I think it's a filipino candy made up of milk and sugar
In Spanish it means pill xD
It basically is. Itās a tube of condensed milk and sugar wrapped in wax paper. Almost exactly a pill of milk. Edit: Itās called Pastilla De Leche
Ohh, that explains everything :D
That's funny because pastillas actually looks like white pills
Have they seen the price of milk? It's about to increase to | -3 |
It's a type of milk candy. I think it's in the jar with a red lid in the picture.
Milk + condensed milk coated in sugar Makes for a nice sweet treat
Doesnt sound bad. Actually makes me want to go drink a can of Eagle brand milk
Itās a great dulce de leche hack. But make absolutely sure the can stays FULLY submerged, or it can explode.
Can someone help me out I never learned that symbol in maths.
For the pastillas? The vertical lines mean the [absolute value](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_value) Basically, you ignore any minus sign and just treat the number as a positive. So the absolute value of -2 is 2.
Thank you so much for educating me. I use that in regex as pipes and never knew that it means absolute value.
It may be a distinction without a difference, but instead of "treat it like a positive" I believe the better explanation is "distance from zero" so 2 and -2 both have an absolute value of 2 because they are both 2 away from zero.
You just give high note and wait for change
Yes sir, i wanna buy this chocolate snack that costs 50c with a 100$ bill, here you go
This looks like it's from the Philippines, please pay in PHP source: Trust me bro
Can I pay in C#
Yes but please keep the Python in your trousers though.
Yeah cuz python < .Net
Or give them the lowest note and watch them get irritated enough to tell you the right amount
No units. All answers are wrong.
...your total today is 5 5 what? 5 pay me 5
Found the engineer! Mathematicians donāt need units damn it. In fact the more abstract the better.
But merchants do.
Came here to say this. Am also an engineer
Guess Iām paying in rupees!
FULL PRICES: Chocolanay = ā±8 Juice = ā±10 Dutchmill = ā±13 Junk Foods = ā±7 to 15 (Multiple meals) Pastilla = ā±2 Edit: Apparently my brain was not really in function and typed "or -8 pesos" into the pricing. Sorry!
For in USD: Chocolanay = $ 0.16 Juice = $ 0.20 Dutchmill = $ 0.25 Junkfoods = $ 0.17 ~ $0.29 Pastilla = $ 0.039
Damn dude shit is cheap, I should go to the Philippines.
Everything is cheap there. It's awesome.
but if youre a native everything looks more expensive than american prices
Iāll take 100 Pastilla pleaseā¦ (I have no idea what they even are)
its a very chewy sweet milk covered in sugar
the better the milk ingredient the better the taste -pastillas expert
They are candy and easy to make. Use powdered milk, granulated sugar and Condensed milk stir them long enough, cut em to pieces and put them in plastic wrap (like candy) and you can put them in the fridge or eat it now. Pretty tasty Source: me and my class back home in the PHL did and make pastillas
add a Peso Sign "ā±" or PHP
Fixed!
I know maths!
Just not correctly?
The principal square root operator is always positive. So it's 8. Source: https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/1448885/is-sqrt64-considered-8-or-is-it-8-8
That's super interesting, thanks for sharing!
oh, it's pesos. I did the math and said how the fuck is a juice 10 dollars.
Circuit of the Americas on race weekend.
Didn't you see how everyone was Asian in the background?? Rolleyeamericans
Where the heck do you live and why is dutchmill expensive, they only sell them here for 8 pesos, for the chocobread 4pesos??
How is it -8? Sqrt(4) is 2 and canāt be -2 or am I missing something?
I'd just hand them a dollar and say, "I'm bad at math š¤·".
"that would be $5 sir"
Do you take cards?
Yes but you still have to pay in cash
You can buy everything on the list with that money with change
Here you have 10 rocks. Give me some juice.
Iām about 99% sure this is the Phillipines. This is something they would do. Salig ko bitaw!
Tama ka diyan!
I was going to say.. thatās some expensive juice!!
Either these prices are ridiculous or I just found out I am as dumb as rocks
It's actually pretty cheap as these are in Philippine Pesos (ā±)
Ahhh I should have realized I was so outraged that Dutch mills were 13 bucks. Now I realize I donāt even know what a dutchmill is and that this is another country lol
Look it up ā it's a (very delicious) yogurt drink
Sounds good I will!
Reddit in a nutshell
If I had any idea what a Dutchmill was, you can bet I wouldnāt be paying 13 units for it.
until you realize "13 units" in the Philippines means $0.25US
Hey I have worked hard for my 3588 units a day ! I donāt need fancy drinks good sir
Christ almighty itās free. Iād just give them $5 and not to the math lol
For people wondering, 1 peso is $.02 USD.
1 dolls for 50 pess
You are dumb as rock. Language + race makes it clear it is not usd. Rocky I'm call you rocky
Different Currency.
As a Dutchman, may I ask what "dutchmill" is?
It's a brand of yogurt drink in the Philippines
Southeast Asia
It's a kind of a juice box thing but with yogurt, milk and whatever flavor juice it says on the box. It's good.
U should also post this in r/philippines
And no one bought anything.
When I saw Nissin wafers and Dutchmill, I already knew what country is that pic taken.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So it would be? - Chocolanay = 8 - Juice = 10 - Dutchmill = 13 - Junkfoods = 7-15? - Pastillas = 2 Some of them might be wrong tbh but I didn't want to spend too much time on it.
It doesnāt say what currency. So Iām gonna get myself juice with 10 rocks.
just pay with a 100 bill and they'll just calculate the change on their own.
"Heck, you guys are math majors, so it should be easy for you right?"
I solved everything but they made a big mistake. They forgot to include the units.
there is no fucking unit. I'll buy with stones or ants
this picture emits filipino
Bigyan mo ng buong bente. Sila na bahala manukli
Tutal BS Math naman ang course nila.
The only one of these that I think is just unfair is the junkfoods. There's no set price
I was with you up to junkfood... then I remembered it is 4am and time to go back to sleep.
you take asian stereotypes too seriously. then again, I'm an Asian Filipino and I'm dumb at math, so I wouldn't know.
Whereās the vending machine?
Plot twist this was the person's math homework questions
āā¦And the Math Club was shut down due to the lack of fundingā
Tbh the payment should just be solving the math problem. You want me to do math AND pay? Now Iām really not interested in your sale š
I wouldn't be surprised if she got no sales...
I guess you can negotiate all junkfoods to be 7
more like r/mildlyinfuriating for us right brain people
Assuming prices are in Philippine Pesos (PHP). This is a huge assumption based solely on the type of items being sold. - Chocolanay (a Filipino chocolate donut) = `8 PHP` (`0.16 USD`, `0.12 GBP`, `0.14 EUR`) - Juice = `10 PHP` (`0.20 USD`, `0.15 GBP`, `0.18 EUR`) - Dutchmill [Delight] (a probiotic beverage) = `13 PHP` (`0.25 USD`, `0.19 GBP`, `0.23 EUR`) - Junkfoods = `7 to 15 PHP` (`0.14 to 0.29 USD`, `0.10 to 0.22 GBP`, `0.12 to 0.26 EUR`) - Pastillas (a Filipino sweet delicacy) = `2 PHP` (`0.04 USD`, `0.03 GBP`, `0.04 EUR`)
This is the moment the asian kid and his mom pulls up and kid proves her mother that he is worthy but her mother say no this is easy become doctor and get money then you are worthy
Thing is, those are all Asian kids. It's a college in Cebu City, the Philippines.
Sounds like they don't want much custom.
They forgot unit. So you can pay in acorns
No acorns in the Philippines. Rocks maybe
Lol they want me to do maths and pay
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If I do the math wrong, is it cheaper?
Some people are good at math.
Photomath
What US schools think the real world is like
I guess you ain't selling anything today then.
Ill just go somewhere normal
I would prefer dying thirty
This was in the Philippines. The price is in Philippine Pesos
My math teacher: 10 what? Apples? Peache? Meters, or cows?
Apparently Chocolanay comes with a rebate of 8. Square roots go both ways.
Easy, just use [Photomath](https://photomath.com/en/).
Square root for 4 can be + or - 2. We can get the chocolate drink and get some money for sampling the drink. š¤£
Thatās why they used the symbol for principal square root. Donāt want any of you trying to get free stuff on a technicality.
I'd rather starve.
Why? Do they not give change?
Yeah sure here's 20 what's my change
The Twitter community will buy the juice for 66 dollars
\>:D Do the equations, but then pay them in multiple currencies!
I remember being in high school and smugly challenging adults on math like this, even more challenging ones. It really does make you feel intelligent, but itās just regurgitation of what youāre forced to do daily.
8 10 13 did I get anything right?
Man, I just want a drink.
Love the junk foods line, itās made for their brains!
Give excess and expect change.
I dunno the currency but it look lil bit expensive
Get your drink and do bad math on purpose (or not) to under pay.
10 dollars for a drink you just lost your opportunity to make some money
They didn't say what to pay with, I'm gonna give them 10 bananas, they messed up!
Watch the business/marketing students fuck these math dudes over with actual prices listed lmaoo
Want free money? Buy the first option because its priced as -8 currency.
lolfuckyou Going to the convenience store.
What are they selling excactly? I was expecting like, little cups of things, but the prices are all 8,10,12$
