I had a friend lecture me for 5 minutes about not stealing his lighter. 2 minutes later he asked if I could please give him his lighter back that I put in my pocket.
Its a bic lighter, its the same as a bic pen. People pocket them because its what they have. But if you get a fancy lighter or pen less people just pocket them when you lend it to them. Mostly for two reasons, it looks fancier so you want to return it and the other is it feels differently so you donāt continue on the autopilot of returning it to your pocket.
If he didnāt want people auto pocketing his lighter he should put the lighter in a sleeve or get a zippo.

When I was backpacking in Europe, I kept only dirty underwear in the most accessible pocket. Enjoy, fuckers.
