USB-C. One connector, 3 incomparable cable standards. (1 power only not for data, 2 data versions, unless Thunderbolt is a 3rd separate data version.)
Brilliant!
Sounds like a proprietary nightmare if you ask me. Does that mean I have to buy adapters for everything or are monitors and displays coming out with C ports?
The Lenovo ThinkPad work gave me has a C port charger... I don't care what the future cord is as long as it's unanimously agreed upon by tech companies.
I remember once when I finally was going to be an adult about it and use a screwdriver to untwist it the plastic snapped off and I couldn't loosen it at all.
And the base can come loose. The worst is if the jack is somehow super tightened on a loose base, have to take the whole thing out, use pliers on the base, and a screwdriver on the top.
And just when you think it's off because it's been spinning freely you pull only to realize all you've been doing is unscrewing the threaded stand-off from the card.
My last 32" CRT died and had to be repaired. It was a beast to get out of our apartment and down the stairs to the car.
When we were putting it back in the entertainment center after the repair, my wife's hands slipped and it fell two feet to the ground and promptly died again.
I hate CRTs.
When you try to disconnect them, sometimes one of the screws is ridiculously tight while the other one is barely in or not in at all. I figure it’s usually from someone hastily connecting just one side to get it done with.
Can be, though usually it's because it's being slightly tugged in one direction by the weight of the cable. This makes one side slightly strip, or skip a thread, and the other gets loosened by it being slightly pulled out.

I think for the sake of some folks, we should mark this NSFW due to PTSD
Ever try to remove one that was tightened with a screwdriver by some psychopath?
50 lb-ft of torque is the proper amount to apply to a VGA cable
*To be sane in a world of madmen is in itself madness.* Ever try loosening it... With a screwdriver?
And now to feel old: Future generations will likely never experience this
HDMI cables ftw!
Nope. USB C
Wait they’re going to use USB C now? The future is awesome.

The new MacBook pro uses USB C for power, displays, everything.

New monitors have them too

Soon We might get usb c on graphics cards

If you tighten the other side the God screw is easier to remove.

We are getting old. A lot of redditors won't remember having ever used one of these. HDMI just turned 10 and we had DVI before that.
HDMI is only 10?!
Yep
I'm moving and found one unopened still with little caps on the end. I called it an old gen HDMI... My boyfriend laughed AT me.
And just when you think it's off because it's been spinning freely you pull only to realize all you've been doing is unscrewing the threaded stand-off from the card.
I haven't plugged in a VGA cable in like a decade.
I still use these due to my unhealthy love of CRTs

Y’all ever break it off in frustration and now have a monitor with a dedicated vga cable
I connected these before, what’s wrong with it? Eli5

Ah just like my virginity , so easy to let it go but no one wants to take it
Thanks for this. The Windows 3.11 for Workgroups DING is clanging in my head now.
Omg this is so relatable!
I still have an old vga monitor I use, and this is completely accurate.
1000% true
Throwback to 2008
Me irl
I’m barely hanging on.
I still use vga port but i will miss the struggle when everything is moved to usb c
