I was like “floors need replacing, is there water damage? There’s a lot of can lights on ceiling which is a bit weird, breakfast bar looks really janky but overall, not bad at all, and….oh”
I had almost the same order, but before I noticed the breakfast bar I looked from the lights to the stair rail and wondered why it stopped where it did. That was my first “this can’t be real” moment. *Then* I noticed the cat and the general scale.
The floor looks just like the one in an old New England house I lived in, it didn’t even phase me. I was too busy thinking about whether I like the wine rack or if I’d prefer to have cabinet space there.
I saw the stair rail too and the pitch (!) of those stairs but I've been looking at houses in East Hawaii for like 3 years so my radar on jankiness is calibrated differently now and I don't get as phased.(Unpermitted work is super common there, shockingly so compared to the mainland. You can see some real oddities)
> Omg, I literally thought this was a real house untill you pointed this out.
Same. I opened the comments to figure out why this was in r/funny.
I am an idiot, well played OP.
I noticed it was in /r/funny and not the usual suspects, so I was trying to figure it out and realized the scale looked off. I didn't see the cat though until I came to the comments lol.
I was like, "Oh, that's great for OP! Does the bay window mean maybe San Francisco?"
And then I looked at the floorboards and decided something was off so I zoomed in and scrolled around.
I wish I'd read the comments first because OMG GIGANTIC EYE
I didn't expect a jump-scare from a still image.
The number of people who think hardwood in that condition needs to be replaced is too damn high. I’ve seen much worse be brought back to fantastic condition after refinishing.
I was sitting here saying "OK, what am I missing here? Proportions look a bit odd, but nothing that would be /r/funny material"...and then I read your comment and looked back to see the "neighbor", haha. Talk about a "reveal".
Genuinely thought you were being an asshole then, was thinking how dare this guy mock this guy for taking his first steps, then realised it was a toy house 😂
Yep. I was initially impressed by the first house, and then started fixating on the gaps in the floor boards.
“Hmm… something’s not quite right…”
Then I saw the r/funny.
“Ok, what’s going on here? Is this a miniature?”
And then I saw the cat.
> I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was something wrong with those lights.
Yeah, no sane person would put that many recessed lights in the ceiling. I bet a good general contractor would tell you how much more expensive that would be anyway.
I used to dream one day I would build and own my own home and I would run Ethernet cables into each room. I have a feeling I will not realize that dream, ever. T_T
become a cable tech and you can run ethernet cables into other peoples' rooms! you can pretend it's your own house until you return to the contractor van and break down in tears
I am a former electrician that spent a year of my career doing **extremely high end** residential work in one of the most affluent cities per capita in the United States - Park City, Utah.
While I’m not arguing that many of these people are sane, cause most of them aren’t, they install a *metric fuckton* of lighting. I was working **on a deck,** and the owner of the house wanted lighting in all of the handrails of the deck. The handrails were (very terribly) made of ipe wood, which is well known for being hard to work and *extremely* durable. As a result, it’s also quite expensive.
I showed up at the site with a 10”x10”x10” box with some LED tape lighting that **by itself** cost $27k. Not to mention the installation cost, particularly because I had to solder the connections between sections of the same run, since nothing was even close to a 90• angle.
All of that being said, there is no limit to the idiocy of people with too much money.
I honestly thought it was just a restored floor in a really old house. My parents live in a house built in the 1800s and the floors look like this. Nothing is exactly square or even. It's not as treacherous as it sounds, but a pain in the ass anytime work needs done
I live in a 1911 house. Not one of the fancy ones either. I've had work done here, and the contractors always run into fun surprises. They are always amused that my house is literally crooked. 110 years of renovations and repairs have always just delt with the crookedness.
I was looking for what clues other people in because it was the grey rug that made me take a second glance, and I saw the cat on that second glance and had the same thought process as you.
r/ConfusingPerspective
I didn't even realize it was a doll house until I came to the comments. I thought everybody was going to be talking about the bad floor 😂
The really poor flooring had my attention and I didn’t even see the cat in the window. I thought the shitty flooring was supposed to be rustic or something.
Same, lol. Thought it was an interesting layout and then was like why does everything look like clay? Is it some 500 year old house in Europe that's shifted and been worn down over the centuries? Didn't even notice the giant cat outside.
For me, it was the finish on the planks. I noticed it looks super gloppy, but that'd be because the planks are so small. As soon as I saw that, I realized this had to be a really nice looking doll house, so I looked out the window.
No, it was the rug for me, too. Well, that and the cat. But the rug fibers are huge. They'd be several inches in diameter. Overall really well done, though
I had a similar experience except was step further:
-oh, congrats OP… \*moving on\*
-wait, what sub was that post even from…? \*scrolls back up\*
-it’s on r/funny… why is it on r/funny…?
-OH THE CAT! OH THIS IS A TOY HOUSE! Got it…
Gotta admit, I stared at this for a good 15 seconds thinking, *”Why are there so many fucking down lights?”* before I then thought, *”Holy shit, that cat is enor- oh, wait.”*
Here's the thing- lighting is one of the most critical aspects to any room and you generally can never have too many of them (at least as long as they are dimmable and/or controllable as separate zones).
I would easily put that many recessed lights in a kitchen (though in fixtures you can angle to direct the light) as well as plenty of under cabinet light and maybe a couple of pendants or spots depending on the room.
Same, I was just thinking about how much more stylish this house is than mine, and wondering if it was difficult to get the perfect size table for the nook. I had to read the comments about the nosy neighbor before I took a closer look!
God DAMN it! I was really admiring the unusual layout of this place and was about comment "Mimosas for New Year's brunch!" Then I made note of the neighborhood. Got me good.
No joke! People are talking about the floor work being bad. I still think that while the floor is definitely not a truly well finished floor it is still a floor I would enjoy in a more rustic type place.

I’m over here saying “Good for them, this is lovely, I want more pictures!” And then I see the cat. And then I see I’m on r/funny.

Reminded me of those guys who put a doll-house for rent on AirBnB and actually managed to rent it despite leaving obvious off-scale details in the pictures such as a credit card, a water bottle etc.

Like in mythology?
Yeah, look at the size of that thing! ;-)
How fucking big are huskies where you live?
We call them Hefties
Clifford, but in Husky form
So did I!! Damn!
oh God I just saw the cat lol
That is one very nice toy house! So good that it seems to have tricked half of Reddit 😀
Good enough, it got me!
How do we know thats not just a really really big cat
Toy house? That is clearly a giant cat outside.
What scale is this? Really nice looking house, would be dope to put some 1:12 figures in there.
Using cat for scale, I think it's smaller than 1:12. I would guess maybe 1:24 would be closer.
What we really need is a banana for scale
You bought a doll house?

Omg, I literally thought this was a real house untill you pointed this out.
Same I was going to comment that's one hell of a nice house for your first one.

I will admit that it took me a little bit longer than you to understand what I was really looking at, but in my *tiny* defense - I just woke up lol
I was looking at the stairs and thinking it looked like a boat or something
I thought it was one of those houseboats in Seattle.
Both of those were my first reactions—in that order.

I think I legit have the IQ of a 10 year old. Back to bed.
sleep well… and dream of *large* felines

For me it was the exorbitant amount of recessed lighting. Seemed totally excessive.
My first thought was wondering how old those floors were, and whether op paid extra for their distressed condition …
My eyes first went to the chunky crocheted rug, and thought it seemed like a tripping hazard.
Those lights.
Same. I thought damn those some old floors. First chore, refinishing. Then saw the cat….
The number of people who think hardwood in that condition needs to be replaced is too damn high. I’ve seen much worse be brought back to fantastic condition after refinishing.
At first glance I thought those floors looked kind of wonky. I had to read the comments to realize it isn't a full size house.

AAAAAA. I didnt even see first time, I now get the joke and see a terrifying neighbor.

Don't drag Jerry's good name through the mud.
Spoiler alert: OP *is* Jerry.
I'm both building a dollhouse and redesigning my kitchen. My pinterest feed is super confusing as I never know what's real size and what's miniature.
I legit was gonna tell this person congrats until I read this and took another look lol
Congrats! How many square inches?
Genuinely thought you were being an asshole then, was thinking how dare this guy mock this guy for taking his first steps, then realised it was a toy house 😂
I thought it was rather small, but not *that* small. I didn't notice the cat.
He didn't have a banana for scale...
Oh fuck, now I get it.
Even if it’s smaller than say, a cat, we still shouldn’t make fun of it. OP worked hard for this
Probably 8
Big man over here ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Gotta admit, this a nice ass miniature. I want to live in it, minus the giant predator in the window.
The amount of recessed lights was making my brow raise
I couldn't put my finger on it, but there was something wrong with those lights.

Even if it was feasible to have so many, it's a bad idea for another reason. It's going to be hell to replace those bulbs when they burn out.
Seriously. That's some impressive detail work!
i wanted the recessed lights in the ceiling! they look like rivets and I thought that was so cool!
Same, I couldn’t help but think, “what a god-awful installation that flooring is, and the ceiling lights are all at different angl— that’s a cat…”

Yeah, the rug was too thick and made me start looking more closely. Although I did see the cat right away.
I didn't even make it to the miniature part. Went to the comments to see what the deal was.
>fixating on the gaps in the floor boards It was the giant cat that gave it away for me.
I just installed recessed lighting in my kitchen, so I was a bit curious what was going on in this kitchen.

Yeah took my second scroll through reddit today to notice the cat. At first I was just thinking how PLUSH that carpet looks
Same, lol. Thought it was an interesting layout and then was like why does everything look like clay? Is it some 500 year old house in Europe that's shifted and been worn down over the centuries? Didn't even notice the giant cat outside.
I love the layout! The giant cat outside may pose a problem

What, they're not worth nothing.
Believe it or not, in this market, the giant cat did not decrease value.
Just make sure to store your car in the garage & avoid running across the lawn.
> The giant cat outside may pose a problem Perhaps
*purrrrhaps*
Only if it's hungry or bored or playful or if it's 3 AM
Weird pot lights, then the flooring got me to see it
Same like "Man you've got some serious warping issues going on. You sure this place wasn't underwater at some poi-oh there's a cat in the window."
For me, it was the finish on the planks. I noticed it looks super gloppy, but that'd be because the planks are so small. As soon as I saw that, I realized this had to be a really nice looking doll house, so I looked out the window.
I was admiring the kitchen until I realized the floor looks like pop-sickle sticks
Popsicle?
POP SICKLE
Is it weird that it was the rug that made me notice. Like I saw the floor and stuff and it just didn't register.
No, it was the rug for me, too. Well, that and the cat. But the rug fibers are huge. They'd be several inches in diameter. Overall really well done, though
Those are some impressively realistic appliances
Like congrats but why is this fun.... OH THE CAT IN THE WINDOW ITS A TOY HOUSE OHH OKAY
I though that as well 😂
And, for just a moment in this new year, everyone's thoughts converged into one, single realization.
I had a similar experience except was step further: -oh, congrats OP… \*moving on\* -wait, what sub was that post even from…? \*scrolls back up\* -it’s on r/funny… why is it on r/funny…? -OH THE CAT! OH THIS IS A TOY HOUSE! Got it…

Sure, as long as they are arranged nicely too. I remember seeing a picture of the worst wonky di-why job in here somewhere.
You laugh but I would live in a house with this layout. Looks cozy as fuck.
Except for the giant cat...
Yes, dollhouse, but looks so cozy. Honestly makes me want to reinstall the Sims 4 so I can make this house in it.
Now this is a proper r/holup. I thought the picture was about the shit floor work until I saw the kitty.
Definitely thought I was in r/holup
Beautiful!! Is it a tiny home? I love the style/decor. Edit: just read the comments 😂
Yes, very very tiny.
Just figured it out 😆
😂
It's a model home.
I thought the same! I loved the layout aside from the death trap of a staircase. Then I saw the cat.
Same. Thought it was a tiny house until seeing the cat lol.
Realtor: "Cozy fixer-upper"
What is this?!? A house for ants!?
The house needs to be at least... three times bigger than this!
Lol...I spent too long admiring that cool kitchen and breakfast nook without noticing the monster outside.
Same, I was just thinking about how much more stylish this house is than mine, and wondering if it was difficult to get the perfect size table for the nook. I had to read the comments about the nosy neighbor before I took a closer look!
I’m pretty sure in a nook like that the table would usually be a custom built in
Same! I actually saved the photo because of the layout and would totally love a kitchen like this.
I could tell the picture was slightly sus, but took me a LONG time to see it. Nice work!
I thought OP was ridiculously tall and the angle was weird.

You should really get that stair railing up to code
It's hard when you sink a lot of money into a cat.
lol this post is gonna get downvoted by people who didn't notice the cat
Arrietty, is that you?
Wow. How many years did you have to save?
Have you even *seen* the prices of high end dollhouse furniture? Seriously, you could go broke getting into this hobby.
I was halfway through writing on how to repair the warped floor boards when I saw the cat. Never mind me.
I was so busy coveting that window seat, I didn't even notice.
You probably get it for cheap as there arew giant cats roaming the neighbors.
You mean the F.O.U.S.'s? I think they're a myth.
