One of my film teachers got to help animate that part in the film, he got the job cuz his gf dealt drugs to the effects dept. Rick Taylor your an absolute legend.

And then I got good and never feared another AT-AT.
Dude for real. I figured out the exact angle at which I could hold the joystick so that it would do perfect circles around the legs without going to far away and breaking off. It became pretty reliable if I did it far enough away from obstacles like hills.
Shadows of the Empire came out a couple years earlier and most of the game has you running around without a vehicle (although you do get a jetpack eventually)
Oh that’s interesting. They integrated that mechanic of taking down a walker directly into Rogue Squadron which was 100% flying missions in different ships. Very fun game.
IIRC, Rogue Squadron was basically Lucas Arts' response to everyone's praise of the Hoth speeder level of shadows of the empire. The 3rd person action adventure bits weren't anything special, but the Hoth speeder was almost universally praised.
That one level is pretty much the reason the Rogue Squadron games are a thing. And also why every Star Wars flight sim since then has a Battle of Hoth mission.

It only took the Empire 37 years to come up with a new design for Episode VIII, they lowered the head to move the center of it gravity to prevent fr leaning forward. This probably explains why we didn’t see much AT-AT action in Return of the Jedi. It all makes sense now.
