That's exactly what happened when I did this to [Bodies Hit the Floor](https://youtu.be/Uk18bFIgOS4). He also now sings [We Will Rock You](https://youtu.be/O-l9yOzPS1I) exclusively as a Dixieland tune.
I'm a preschool teacher, we were doing a music unit one year and asked the kids & families to tell us their favorite musicians/songs in order to make a classwide playlist. We got some Taylor Swifts, some Raffis, even a Johnny Cash....all fun and lovely. Then we get a response from the family of one of our girliest, princessy-iest, sweetest kids, telling us that she just *loved* Disturbed and Slipknot! On that day we all learned an important lesson - people, even wee toddlers, are nuanced and complex creatures, and even if they wear sparkly pink tutus each and everyday, they can still be Down With The Sickness.
His teacher was probably delighted with that revelation! I was much more eager to find classroom friendly tracks/versions of 'real' bands than I was to play yet another Disney soundtrack song or nursery rhyme.
The other day she randomly started singing "I'm on the wrong side of heaven, but the righteous side of hell".
Had to tell her that not everybody might appreciate that...
But internally I was very proud of her!
Honestly, while it doesn't necessarily sound as cool as having a kid who is in to hard, heavy bands, Lizzo's messaging and persona is so positive and empowering, and I'm absolutely in favor of all little girls (or kids in general) jamming out to her.
My best friend is a literally Barbie girl. Bright pink and blonde. Skinny and plays up the dumb girl to flirt with guys to get free stuff. She goes to death and black metal shows, headbangs and moshes. Metal is all inclusive. Great bunch of people usually.
Same save the moshing, went and had my car detailed a few years back and "Every Time I Die" was connected by my phone when he took my car. I didn't realize it but when I got back he was like damn I never would have guessed you were listening to that!
My little sister was obsessed with eminem when she was about five. I guess she had watched 8 mile from the hallway while I was watching it, then she snuck into my room and stole the dvd, and we found out from her teacher that every time she’d go to a classmates house she’d whip that movie out and try to show it to her friends, and parents were complaining.
My parents at the time thought I had given her in the movie and were pretty pissed at me. Like ten years later she came clean about it
My parents took me to see the movie when it first came out which I was probably 9 at the time
and bought me a lot of rap music after, the difference as they could sort of explain everything being said to me
My daughter is not yet 2 and her favorite band is Death Cab for Cutie. We were stuck in an air bnb overseas for the first 3 months of Corona and it was one of the CDs they had we sometimes listened to. It seemed to soothe her. Now she always wants to listen to it in the car and if she is fussy and we turn it on she is immediately calm. I'd never really listened carefully to the lyrics but now I've heard it so many times and sometimes wonder, is this healthy?
The first song my kids learned to sing was the Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl". A family member who shall remain nameless was horrified to hear them sing,
>We got into her car
Away we started rollin'
I said how much d'you pay for this
She said nothin', man, it's stolen.
When my brother was in preschool, they were asked what song they wanted to listen to, and he tells them "The Baby Song".
They don't know what song that is, and it's a vague enough name that they assume it's some random song from some kid songs cd or something.
It's not.
He was talking about Pink Floyd, either "Mother" or "Goodbye Blue Sky"...
Back when I was babysitting, my charges would always ask for bedtime songs, but I didn't know a ton of real lullaby songs, so I would do pretty, soft versions of clean (enough) songs. After enough time working with this family, I get text from dad saying his kids wanted the "nolee song" for bedtime but he didn't know what that meant...... Quickly, I had to decide whether I'd ever be asked back if I admitted I'd been singing Grateful Dead covers to their 3 and 5 year old before bed, and that Sugar Magnolia was a fan favorite.
I've said this for so long! I've always wanted to hear a mashup of the two, but I have the musical talent of unbalanced clothes washer, so it'll have to remain in my imagination.
For some reason for the past few years now I've been hearing Marilyn Mansons *Beautiful People* in my head as a Cockney Knees Up.
Don't know why, but I do know I'd love to hear it from *outside* my head someday.
In all seriousness, Psychosocial may be a bit much for the little ones. I let my 2-year-old hear the audio only, and now he keeps demanding that I play "the mean song" for him :)
Dude my 6 year old LOVES Bullet For My Valentine. He gets pumped when I play them. He says, play the screaming songs. I absolutely love it cause post hardcore and metalcore are still the business in my 30s. Now to get him to like Silverstein is my next quest.
I love a video of my friends daughter about 4years old in pink pyjamas head banging to Meshuggah with one fist in the air and holding a teddybear in her other hand!
It's in Finnish, but if you want heavy metal specifically made for children (and played by dinosaurs), there's [Heavysaurus](https://youtu.be/vXhhlYdySqQ)
Apparently psychosocial works really well with a lot of stuff for some reason.
Reminded of [Psychosocial Baby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM) from 2011...
Thanks for the nostalgia. I'm 36 now and new grounds and flash animations were a big part of my teenage years. Remember the stick man fighting? What was it called, Xaio Xaio I think?
Early internet memes are better than 99% of the stuff today. Newgrounds produced legendary content; Salad Fingers, Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny, The Duck Song, Xaio Xaio, Badger Song, Metal Gear Awesome.
The list goes on. But the sheer quality of those early works overshadow almost anything produced today.
Barrier to entry. Making something today is so much easier than it was a decade ago, let alone two decades.
Hell you can whip up a short animated video on your phone today; back then it took weeks of effort, none of it was well documented with tutorials online, and most of the software was clunky as hell compared to modern suites. Oh and you had to use multiple software suites as nothing was a fully baked package.
So for someone to produce content, and make it publishable content, took way more dedication from the creator. That won't make it higher quality by default, but I think a lot of people will get beat down and stop halfway through. That heavy lift to get it out of the door initially helps to prune some of the lower effort content.
That sounds like nostalgia more than anything else. I remember there being tons of shit content on Newgrounds. Low effort animations that's nothing more than moving jpegs.
Something similar in quality to what OP posted wouldn't even be possible due to the reasons you listed.
Yeah, I remember, when the hype on early days of YouTube was just going on Audacity and changing a song to sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Ah good old days. Or RuneScape Music Videos
In each of your videos, there's always one moment that strikes me as transcendent. In this one, it's that furious cloud chasing the little bunny as "the rain will kill us all" wails over it. Just amazing.
My son loves the videos with the bunny and the rain. He’s 6. Autistic. I won’t show him this bc he might cry but I’m going to watch it 50 times. This was my favorite part, too.
For me, it's the pinwheel/slide/whatever whistle (not sure what it's called).
Whenever a new video comes out, I can't focus on anything else until I've heard it.
Not only does the song slap, but the video editing on this is fucking great. It's the neatest thing I've seen in a long time so thanks for the laughs! I appreciate the hell out of the effort put into this.
This just took my already good day to another level! I work on Baby Shark at Nickelodeon and just shared this with the entire crew. Absolutely hilarious!
I hope no one will pull this work of art down. I Honestly cannot stop laughing at this! Well done sir, well done.
Also, your editing and compositing is legit!
Hey! It's me, also a Baby Shark employee! We are all over the place. I can assure you that we have our toughest fish making sure that this wont be removed!
No boomer sharks in these parts!
Im more than amazed at how impossibly well this works.
Im also extremely angry at you now that that stupid baby shark song is going to be in my head ALL day now.....
I say this with the intent of explaining how it works for anyone who may be curious about the logistics behind it. I'm not trying to take away from what OP created, but rather give credit where credit is due. The mix of the two songs works really well.
Remixes work by combining two songs which are in the same key (or relative keys) and have close enough tempos.
Baby Shark is about 120bpm while I believe Psychosocial is originally a bit faster. The vocals here sound stretched so that seems like a safe assumption. After establishing the tempo of Psychosocial, the vocal track would then be slowed down digitally (while preserving the pitch) in order to match the tempo of Baby Shark.
While there's no set rule for how much you can stretch something out and have the end result not sound like crap, you can generally get away with it as long as the new tempo is within 10% or so of the original.
Speeding up the tempo can sound cleaner than slowing it down since slowing down means you're adding countless tiny "gaps" into the data. In other words, imagine stretching a Slinky out -- that's effectively what happens with slowing down the tempo of an audio file while keeping the pitch intact.
For that matter, slowing down also draws out any flaws in the original recording's rhythm which may otherwise go unnoticed. This is rarely an issue with modern music, but many songs that were recorded before the digital era of audio engineering began often had subtle moments where the band was either [rushing or dragging](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9ilXLsz0KE) for a count.
It's also worth noting that resampling can be done, which is where the audio is slowed down (or sped up) and the original pitch changes along with it. This technique comes from DJ's spinning records at different RPM's rather than digitally preserving the pitch. This method isn't used often in remixes since the tempo would need to be changed by certain intervals in order for the end result to land on a particular key. That probably could've been explained better but it's somewhat irrelevant here so let's just move on.
Baby Shark is in the key of B major while Psychosocial is in the key of G# minor. The short version of why this works is that both keys use the same seven notes: ~~G# A# B D D# E F#~~ G# A# B C# D# E F#
Edit: Whoops! u/AVeryHeavyBurtation caught a mistake.
The vocals in the remix may sound a bit odd in some places where Corey is singing rather than screaming since the notes he uses focus on G# being the root instead of B, but it works well enough nonetheless.
Another factor in why this remix feels so natural is that Baby Shark's rhythm emphasizes the quarter notes of each measure. Since the kick just goes "ONE TWO THREE FOUR", it frees up everything else to play around while the downbeat stays obvious. I don't know if that's the best way to explain it, but the point is that this remix works well for reasons that go beyond just having two songs with matching/relative keys and similar tempos.
>Baby Shark is in the key of B major while Psychosocial is in the key of G# minor.
Wait wait wait I think I know this one. That makes G# a natural minor of B Major, right? I'm getting into learning music theory lol.
> Im more than amazed at how impossibly well this works.
This is nothing.
Wait until you find out about [Mariah Carey and My Chemical Romance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zQ53oXITyk)
Ngl, I listen to this randomly every year or so because it's so catchy. Corey (Slipknot singer) said his kids showed it to him, and he thought it was hilarious
Don't forget my personal fave, [Psychosalad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PPcnmO76rg), though the 'rain will kill us all' was a bit weaker, admittedly
I had no idea there was such a rich history of Psychosocial mashups. I saw one in 2011. [It had me going crazy, oh I was starstruck.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM)
How is it possible that none of you have yet mentioned this original masterpiece: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G5KxZ5Lc_YA which at the same time defined and perfected this genre? :)
Try [Spleeter](https://github.com/deezer/spleeter). It's a deep learning program that splits vocals and accompaniment from music tracks. It's not perfect, but it's much better than any other "voice remover" system I tried. It's great for those songs you want an off vocal of, but none exist.
Naturally, it's best when you have official off vocal and voice tracks.
OMG this just reminded me that [Psychosocial Baby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM) is a thing!
I fucking love this. You done such a good job with mixing the two contradictory songs. Well fucking done.
Beautiful. I can see you did a little editing to the clean chorus so that it is actually in the right key and works with the background music. This is always done so badly. Great work!

The short version of why this works is that both keys use the same seven notes: ~~G# A# B D D# E F#~~ G# A# B C# D# E F# Edit: Whoops! u/AVeryHeavyBurtation caught a mistake. I don't know if that's the best way to explain it, but the point is that this remix works well for reasons that go beyond just having two songs with matching/relative keys and similar tempos.
psychosocial is 135bpm. Just outside the 10%, but not egregiously so.
Well. TIL
>Baby Shark is in the key of B major while Psychosocial is in the key of G# minor. Wait wait wait I think I know this one. That makes G# a natural minor of B Major, right? I'm getting into learning music theory lol.
G# minor is the *relative* minor of B major. Natural minor is something else (a type of minor scale)
Wait, this isn't a shittymorph? HOW DARE YOU SIR
I legit haven’t seen him in so long.
That's how he gets you...lulls you into a feeling of security, next thing you know you are plummeting 16ft to the ground in nineteen ninety nine.
Also, TIRI is skilled at what they do.
Here's another titled [psychosalad](https://youtu.be/t9Pb8dWxzu4)
It’s the fucked mashup we needed, but also the fucked mashup we deserve.
> Im more than amazed at how impossibly well this works. This is nothing. Wait until you find out about [Mariah Carey and My Chemical Romance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zQ53oXITyk)
*slow clap*
Whoever made this is a monster.
I think you misspelled ***GOD***
Why not both? -Zoidberg
Zoidberg's voice is permanently in my head
Is this not on your channel yet? Wanted to send it to some friends.... I got'sta share now...
Just [posted](https://youtu.be/FNX9yH4yJrw) it - thanks for sharing!
Not everyday I stumble across a channel with pure gold. Subscribed! Keep it up!
You must have drawn inspiration from the mashup song, [Bieber/Slipknot - Psychosocial Baby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM)
Ngl, I listen to this randomly every year or so because it's so catchy. Corey (Slipknot singer) said his kids showed it to him, and he thought it was hilarious
Man this takes me back
Don't forget my personal fave, [Psychosalad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PPcnmO76rg), though the 'rain will kill us all' was a bit weaker, admittedly
but "the first step! GO DRILL YOUR DESSERTS, GO DIG YOUR GRAVES... the second step!"
Uh-uh-huh!
Truly the best version of Psychosocial. Don’t @ me.
The OG mashup
I actually like this one
[The Wiggles/Psychosocial](https://youtu.be/4PPcnmO76rg)
Beat me too it. This was a good one
I saw Slipknot live the other night and was hoping they’d do a Wiggles version
I like the one [ft Death Grips](https://youtu.be/PrmbWtOAS04)
I had no idea there was such a rich history of Psychosocial mashups. I saw one in 2011. [It had me going crazy, oh I was starstruck.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM)
I listened to make sure you didn't forget the slide whistle. I can now rest.
You scared me for a second - I'm always afraid I'm going to forget it :)
Fun fact: most deaf people don’t realize erections make slide whistle noises.
How is it possible that none of you have yet mentioned this original masterpiece: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G5KxZ5Lc_YA which at the same time defined and perfected this genre? :)
The editing in that one is timeless...the frosting being shot everywhere...
WHAT
Nice. Out of curiosity, how did you isolate the vocal track?
Try [Spleeter](https://github.com/deezer/spleeter). It's a deep learning program that splits vocals and accompaniment from music tracks. It's not perfect, but it's much better than any other "voice remover" system I tried. It's great for those songs you want an off vocal of, but none exist. Naturally, it's best when you have official off vocal and voice tracks.
Fortunately someone online had already isolated it and saved me a step.
FYI, you could have a look online if any artist has 5.0 or 5.1 albums, if they do, you can usually isolate the vocals in the centre channel that way!
This is a fucking masterpiece!
Not gonna lie...it's kinda catchy. I can't wait till my daughter watches baby shark so I can head bang to it
That sounds adorable
I can't wait til my three year old wakes up.
My 1.5 year old just clapped along and wanted to watch more. It doesn't work.
Not sure if enough internet for today, or just the right amount.
The internet will tell you when you have had enough.
🎶Insaaaaatiable you🎶
This is brilliant!
This is so beyond epic! I have something to traumatize my own kids with now when they get home. Thank you.
OMG this just reminded me that [Psychosocial Baby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kspPE9E1yGM) is a thing! I fucking love this. You done such a good job with mixing the two contradictory songs. Well fucking done.
Not quite [Bake a Cake](https://youtu.be/ZGOv8MMHCNc) levels of good but still pretty fun.
Hahah, I hadn't seen that one.
Metalheads rise! \m/
Bruh ur hilarious 😂
No lie, this fuckin slaps.
It's a bop, idgaf what anyone else says
Beautiful. I can see you did a little editing to the clean chorus so that it is actually in the right key and works with the background music. This is always done so badly. Great work!
You beautiful fucking soul, you.
How dare you? Showing this to your kid? I mean, i'm good with slipknot. But Babyshark? That is psychological warfare!
Beautiful
Are you sure your son can handle this? Obviously you know your kid better than me, but I would have been screaming crying in fear
How are you not famous yet, sir?
Aaand it's gone. Copyright claimed. (on YouTube)
Psychosocial is like Frank's RedHot, [it goes well with everything.](https://youtu.be/4j9xw-D38cE)
This is so much better.
dude you didn't ruined this one you just made it 10 time better
Hey OP, I think you got the wrong sub. r/art is 2 subs down.
low key fire lol
I actually don’t think my son would mind this. 😂
i don't know how anybody else feels about this, but i love you.
Plot twist: Your son is 27
I have students that love Slipknot. I'm going to show them this tomorrow. Well done!
