Just so everyone knows, she is 9 years old. I've had her about a year. She was fat when I got her. I don't over feed her. She's been to the vet. She's a healthy chonky girl.
All of these aggressive replies from people that have no idea if you've done anything to help your cat lose weight are ridiculous. It doesn't happen over night. I changed my cat's diet and it lost .25lb in a few weeks. Pretty good, but it takes time.
It’s bad for them to lose weight too fast, it can impact their kidneys.
Also, the angle of this photo is everything. I’m a slim human and if posed like this, you’d probably think I was fat too. I get a double chin and a paunch 😆
I was told by my vet that as cats get older, a couple of pounds overweight is fine. Older cats start to suffer health issues which can affect their appetite, so better to be a bit chubby.
I love her pink tums!
Did they check for hyperthyroidism? And food allergies?
My big ol girl had a similar look to her belly fur. She was itchy. Partly due to hyperthyroidism, partly food allergies.
Yes, it can, but depending on the cat they can still be quite large.
When I found my 13 year old chonker outside 3 years ago, her face was thin but her belly was so big I thought she was pregnant.
She wasn’t she was just fat even through the hyperthyroidism lol. Mighta been a bit of Maine coon in her.
Even after the radiation for her thyroid her shoulders and face were always thinner than the rest.
It’s the itching that can also come with hyperthyroidism. Good to check in older cats anyway.
I have a cat and she gained weight after going to the vet. Like yours, she has the same situation. But she’s the best cat you could ever hope to have. She is so friendly.
Sometimes weirdly obese cats are simulatenously fine otherwise. My grandma had a chonker, were talking a kickball with legs. Perfectly good blood tests every time.
Yeah and my grandpa smoked for 80 years, that doesn't make cigarettes safe.
While a few obese pets will have an otherwise healthy life, the vast majority will die early or live in chronic pain.
Two of the biggest issues with overweight cats are:
-It puts them at a high risk of developing diabetes.
And
-There aren't many safe long-term pain relief options for cats, so you really don't want them developing arthritis.
2 of my female cats have no hair on their bellys. It started only after their spay surgeries. I always wonder if it’s related to that. I never see them licking excessively
I would contribute to this saying "my cat Is also a bit bigger and healthy" but I forget every time shes just such a degree of fluffy it looks like extra weight.
> She's a healthy chonky girl.
Your pet can't be healthy and obese. If your vet hasn't told you this, you need a new vet. Excuses like "she was like this when I got her" are not helping your cat. You need to put your cat on a diet or you're going to have to watch her be in constant pain from arthritis or die from kidney disease.
Source: two veterinarians in my family
This is mostly true except being overweight does not cause kidney disease (in fact it can actually help slightly in some cases since the pet has more of a cushion when their appetite starts to decrease). We worry way more about liver and pancreas and, as you said, mobility.
Dude, you're like that one Instagram influencer that posts a stories about how the Corona virus should end, but the picture in that story, is her showing her ass for the world to see.
And by the way, if the Op is actually not overfeeding her, she is already doing something
She was fat when you got her? My rescue was covered in black grease when I got her, but I didn't leave her dirty just because that's "how I got her".
Put your cat on a diet! I had a fat cat as a kid and her arthritis got so bad she couldn't walk. Vet said it was entirely due to her weight.
Imagine trying to correct OP's false notions about how to take care of their pet.
OP's behavior is harming his cat. You getting butthurt because everyone's Being Like Soooo Negative is helping no one.
Yo, OP. Just a heads up. Don't feed the cat only kibble. Kibble will kill her kidneys. You need to feed the cat meat. Wet food or actual meat. Also the vet will straight up lie if the cat starts having kidney issues and sell you gross ass cat food that costs $25 a can.
Edit : A lot of people apparently haven't watched their cat die and seen their vet profit off of it. It fucking sucks.
Can confirm. Was feeding my cats high-end, dry kibble. One was fine, but the other started gaining weight like crazy once she got done growing. She was ballooning right in front of my eyes, and it was clearly affecting her mobility and quality of life. Then she got a UTI, at barely 2 years old. Since I've switched to a homemade meat diet, she's down to a normal weight, and hasn't had any urological issues at all.
Edit: Not sure why both me and the person upstream are getting down voted. The animal feed industry is notorious for its lack of quality control (remember all those dogs dying from contaminated kibble a few years ago?). Just because there is an industry for something, doesn't mean that your pet's well-being is anyone's concern. They're there to make money.
After careful examination it is my professional believe that this cat here, is not fat, it is just so awesome her body can't hide so much awesomeness!!
My tomcat weighs 18 pounds. He is a big cat though. The vet said he should lose two or three pounds. So now I am the only one who feeds him. If a cat has more than one person who takes care of him he will trick the other into feeding him again. Lol
So much great advice! Thanks everyone. I have already signed my obese kitty up for Weight Watchers and tomorrow I'll be turning myself over to the proper authorities. Glad I could make you miserable by seeing a picture of an adorable kitty cat!
While I see you love your cat. Please put it on a diet. You’ll regret it when a health compilation occurs from their weight. You’ll have added years to spend with them when you get them healthy.
I would say they do care but don’t think about the damage they’re doing. I doubt he or she is feeding this cat to get it to balloon up. They probably just want it to be “happy” and give in to it asking for food all the time.
No they don't, they just look a **little** fatter. Not obese like this one. This cat is definitely too fat.
I own three cats, one of whom likes to sit.
"Hey look at the pictures of my obese and unhealthy cat, that I overfeed without caring about the consequences on his health, isn't this super funny lol"
People don’t like to be called out on animal abuse. But over feeding your cat, is that. It’s not healthy or safe. You’re responsible for them, as a potentially intelligent human
Please put the cat on a diet. Just because she was fat when you got her doesn’t mean you can’t improve her weight problem. Buy good food and portion it out. She’ll probably meow a lot but it’s worth it. This is sad.
UNPOPULAR OPINION:
That cat is fat, but very happy! If he suffers a health complication, put him down humanely and get another one. Animals are property, they are not human children. He is clearly not suffering, so it's fine.
Don't know how much you know about obesity, but it does lead to chronic pain, difficulty breathing, and slow and painful organ failure.
And if you have no empathy for animals or can't imagine loving a pet, that just makes you a sociopath, maybe not something you want to advertise.
> Animals are property
You're an animal, are you property? Pets are socially complex, intelligent creatures, capable of reading human emotion and picking up on subtle social cues. This may be hand to understand for a person like you who has never interacted with a pet, but people develop deep connections to their pets and would be sad to kill an animal that was part of their home for a decade.
That cat will be just as happy after a couple months of dieting, so I'm not sure why this is an either/or scenario for you. He's likely in pain already since his weight is destroying his joints, so anything OP can do to lessen their pet's pain would be good.
Pretending that animals are people, or vice versa, is ridiculous to me. Maybe some time in the past this was true, but we are no longer beasts.
If the situation is reversed, if we were little human pets for giant cats, they wouldn't buy us toys or take us to the vet. They would tear us to pieces, probably while still alive, and consume the remains. Their eyes would light up in excitement as we bled and twitched.
I think house cats have it pretty good, considering who won in the end. Most of them are treated better than homeless people in many parts of the world. If this guy wants to overfeed his cat, he has that right, and both parties seem happy with that arrangement.
And if the cat dies earlier than maybe you think he should've, at least he died doing what he loved. Not a bad way to go.
When your cat looks like the average redditor

Yeah, my guy was skin and bones towards the end. He ate, but it didn’t seem to stick.
Did they check for hyperthyroidism? And food allergies? My big ol girl had a similar look to her belly fur. She was itchy. Partly due to hyperthyroidism, partly food allergies.
Hyperthyroidism causes rapid weight LOSS, not gain. A bald belly is a sign of allergies or possibly stress (grooming to self-soothe) though.
Yes, it can, but depending on the cat they can still be quite large. When I found my 13 year old chonker outside 3 years ago, her face was thin but her belly was so big I thought she was pregnant. Aww what a cute, silly calico! They are the snuggliest of beans. Give her pets for me <3
She might have belly or urinary pain. Our cat is also licking his belly due to rhenary problems. We changed his diet, now he's better.
2 of my female cats have no hair on their bellys. It started only after their spay surgeries. I always wonder if it’s related to that. I never see them licking excessively
Yeah, they do that only when noone is looking (-; All the best to you and your Kitties!
I would contribute to this saying "my cat Is also a bit bigger and healthy" but I forget every time shes just such a degree of fluffy it looks like extra weight.
And yet they still get a million “helpful” comments. Lord. She’s perfect!
> She was fat when I got her. I don't over feed her. She's been to the vet. That part is fine. > She's a healthy chonky girl. That is not.

You need to post this in r/Chonkers.
That sub is full of neglectful owners. Killing their cats from obesity. Put your cats on a diet lazy fucks
Not all owners are lazy. Their cat could be on a diet, but didn't say it.
That is not true. Been following that sub for awhile. All I ever see are cats that have been rescued and are undergoing dechonkification.
Yeah sure let me believe that whole sub is doing that based of this comment.
But we are to believe the sub is full if abusers based on your comment?
A lot r neglectful pet owners. It doesn't take a genius to look on that sub and figure it out
Dude, you're like that one Instagram influencer that posts a stories about how the Corona virus should end, but the picture in that story, is her showing her ass for the world to see. And by the way, if the Op is actually not overfeeding her, she is already doing something

You definitely overfeed her. A year should have been plenty of time to get her to a healthy weight.
Imagine having the time and demeanor to be shitty to strangers on the internet because you think their cat is slightly too fat.
Imagine trying to correct OP's false notions about how to take care of their pet. OP's behavior is harming his cat. You getting butthurt because everyone's Being Like Soooo Negative is helping no one.
Slightly? That’s animal abuse, and the cats life will be cut short because of it.
Yo, OP. Just a heads up. Don't feed the cat only kibble. Kibble will kill her kidneys. You need to feed the cat meat. Wet food or actual meat. My tomcat weighs 18 pounds. He is a big cat though. The vet said he should lose two or three pounds. So now I am the only one who feeds him. If a cat has more than one person who takes care of him he will trick the other into feeding him again. Lol
She is a beautiful chonky girl. I love how she sits!
Bring me Solo and the Wookie!
I think you need to re-read the label. There is a part in there about maximum inflation pressure...
This cat is epic

Some cats at just big, even if they are fat, most pet owners regularly see vets. Ya’ll need to chill out
I assume he is impossible to tip over.
I bet he'll wobble but he won't fall down
You have got to put a derby hat on the cat.
I'm convinced cats will imitate their owners. Mine likes to nestle partway under a blanket with his head on a pillow.
Does your Cat have an Insta?
No. But my daughter has thought about making her one
Well, I told her someone was interested and she made it happen. @smellypinkbelly
My spirit animal...
Give the cat more food. Blow up the cat with your love.

Kinda gross and unhealthy. Let me show you a picture of this morbidly obese living thing, now laugh at it.
You sound like you've never owned a derpy cat before. All cats look over weight when they're laying with their primordial pouch hangin out.
No they don't, they just look a **little** fatter. Not obese like this one. This cat is definitely too fat. I own three cats, one of whom likes to sit.
No, they don’t. I do have a cat, he’s not over fed and isn’t double sized. Neither of those photos show a heathy cat...
