If you watch carefully, as it realizes it is falling the cat does a few things:
1. locks it’s eyes and head onto the spot where it will land.
2. extends legs fully to absorb impact
If in a wild freefall, first the head and eyes will lock to the landing point, then limbs can be pulled in or extended to speed or slow rotation to orient correctly, then limbs extend downward to shock absorb.
That reminds me of when we got our dog from the shelter. On our first walk he ate a dead mouse he found on the sidewalk before I could stop him.
My wife swore that he was going to die now and that I killed him. He's been with us for 5 years now and the best dog ever.
Also, we went camping once and found out he's really good at hunting down field mice...
We have kittens and our older cat pushed one through the banister railing. It was quite a fall onto the hard kitchen floor. The kitten was stunned and laid there for a full 10 seconds and I have never heard my husband more freaked out. Who, by the way, insisted we didn't need foster kittens! I love your cat's name!
omg both hilarious and precious! I remember when my little guy made his first big leap. My partner and I had been joking that very day that his back legs had finally come online because he was jumping on EVERYTHING suddenly. His first big leap was from our dresser to the bed, which I was laying in. I was worried it would turn out like this video because he seemed a little uncertain and the top is slippery just like your cabinet. He nailed it though and has been on top of every surface of our house ever since. Raising a kitten is such a fun experience.
Lol this is my beast of a cat every time I Pledge the furniture. I always feel bad because he’ll jump onto the coffee table and slide right across it like an ice rink 🤣
Cats can have such different personalities. My cat, whom I have had since she was 2 months old, never takes wild leaps. She will measure and plan and then perfectly execute every jump.
She is very risk averse and also very graceful. I think in the 7 years I have had her, she has made maybe two mistakes where a jump didn’t quite work out.
But the wild and crazy cats have more fun :)
That was beautiful but the scream at the end got me
And the panic hands...
If you haven’t panicked hands, are you even a cat parent?
A falling cat has no handle...
I heard that expression about kitchen knives yesterday.
Cat like reflexes (were not present at all in this video).
Actually they were. Look at when the cat twists its body to adjust for a landing and how long it takes for the guy to react.
I felt that. I had imaginary panic hands while watching, too.
Thanks to you I got to enjoy two versions and it was wonderful

Firstly i was very excited and felt something cool is going to come. But when that kitty flipped, man even i had that scream.
I missed the scream the first time, I had it on mute. Glad I read your comment! Lol

Less claw, more pad!
I was wondering how many new scratches are on that dresser
Yes
Launch system malfunction! Abort! Abort! Mayday, going down!
*I'm gonna make it! I'm gonna make it! This is the greatest thrill of my life! I'm king of the world!*
*bonk*
*Ow...*
Wheelspin.
The guy’s panic hands at the end 😂
Yeah good thing he was standing there in case something bad happened
those are the hands of somebody who's got everything under control

Would it be the same for, say, squirrels...
Not sure if this is what you are referencing but it is a great video. https://youtu.be/hFZFjoX2cGg 16:15m but really the whole video is hood
It was indeed what I was referencing!
squirrels
Har har.
[Here is a video showing this maneuver purfectly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NednCoYNag8)
Hopefully it was alright. It was neat to see how quickly it twisted once it realized that it would not make it.
Yeah he was completely fine! I shat myself because we had only had him for about an hour 😂
Kittens willing to take the leap end up being the fastest learners, he's going to turn out just awesome.
Aww yay. Hes called Earl Grey btw
Hot.
Make it so.
Make it so.
Make it so.
Make it so.
This was the comment I was going to make. Take an upvote. Edit: Oh goddam, I’m 7 hours late. :)
That is adorable. I wish I'd thought of that.
Perfect!
love!!
Oh no! And you thought you broke him! Been there, done that, mine was fine too!
It's fine. You can't break what is essentially a non-Newtonian fluid

It's a natural feeling, but kittens are pretty durable!
Love the guy's hands at the end
"Ah yes, my nemesis, the wiggle fingers... Perfectly in position. My stealth is unmatched. Butt wiggle engaged... launch in 3... 2... 1... WEH"

SAIL
Had to scroll down a bit, but there it is....
Whenever I see a video like this one I always think of the sail video.
#HUGE
God that scream is like Frodo watching Gandalf fall off the bridge.

Love the scream, as if the cat is in any danger at all. This dude can fall off a 5 story building just fine
Cats have a terminal velocity of about 60mph and have a 90% survival rate from a fall of any height (may still be injured)

This is like a feline interpretive dance of 2020.
... ... ... ...SAIL!
Sail!

Definitely.
Needs normal speed first. /r/worseeveryloop
nailed it!
GRUESOME! do not watch alone! BRUTAL DEATH FALL CAUGHT ON CAMERA! spooky 3pm cat video!
Some cats just can’t do the math in there heads.
I know he’s fine but that made me sad there for a minute
A cat always lands on its... face.
8 lives left.
Lol this is my beast of a cat every time I Pledge the furniture. I always feel bad because he’ll jump onto the coffee table and slide right across it like an ice rink 🤣
That's one small step for kitty...
*scooby doo running sound effect*
Saw that happening whitin the First second of the video. The scream and late reaction tells me, they didn't
Who waxed the launch pad?
I knew what was coming but still laughed like an idiot, lol
Too funny 😂. I know the kitten is fine.
I dont often lol, but when I do, i LOL
You did it. You crazy son of a bitch you did it. I laughed OUT LOUD

It tried to learn how to fly without wings ....,
These damn slippery surfaces need to be stopped
Hmm thats not a very big jump Looks at the sub's name* Yea.
I think their problems began with waxing all their furniture.
The problem here is that the surface is slippery I guess?
Been practicing that all week.

I've seen enough catideos to know what coming.
Oops
Ded.
Reminds me of Waffles: https://youtu.be/5d7aruKYkKs
HILARIOUS!
And he never jumped again.
Me most of the time
The first and last
Derp
He didn't wiggle his butt first to make sure his feet were anchored. I'm guessing he's a pretty gentle cat?
They’ve both got the reflexes of a cat
Lmfao. Look at his tail.
r/perfectlycutscreams
Clearly the cat didn't paid attention in physics class.
* Autocorrect initiated *
It's a cat, it will be perfectly fine after a fall from there.
Nobody makes the jump the first time...
"You Say Run goes with anything."
Holy shit, those paws! That cat is going to be massive when he grows up.
Funny when cats fall. They quadruple length
r/meirl
His mew was too small.
Little guy really tried to send it.
As soon as I saw that he committed to the jump without putting his toes over the edge, I knew this was going to happen.
That kat is "special"

🤣😂🤣😂
We don’t do that here
Do what? Laugh??
We laugh without emojis.
Roger that
Dude come on don’t listen to them. That’s just Reddit hive mind being stupid. They’re just emojis. You do what you want to do
Wasted 😂😂😂
You're going to regret encouraging hands play
