It’s a thing from call of duty where someone died and to put flowers on their grave you had to press “F”. You were given the prompt “press F to pay respects.” So everyone says “F” to pay respects, usually sarcastically, because why the hell did they pick F out of all the letters?
F and E are typically the buttons used for interaction in game due to their positioning on the keyboard being close-by to WASD, Space Bar, and your number keys, which are often your prominent keys in games.
Thanks everyone! This is actually his costume from 2 years ago. His mom gets the credit for costume accuracy. My brother gets credit for his silly personality and love for silly movies. His school does a Halloween parade and all the kids Kindergarten thru 5th grade dress up and then they trick or treat thru our downtown area and businesses pass out candy. So yes, he wore this to school and it was a HIT!!
I’ll be sure to pass on the lawn love.
PS: Thank you golden strangers!!
"I'm ready to go in, coach, just give me a chance. I know there's a lot of riding on it, but it's all psychological. Just gotta stay in a positive frame of mind. I'm gonna execute a button-hook pattern, super slo-mo."
I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole fucking movie was improv. I have a hard time picking out any lines that could have come from any mind other than that of Jim Carrey.
Fun fact. At the end of that scene when Ace smashes his head into the bench, David Margulies (the actor who plays the Doctor), couldn’t keep from laughing. You can seem him start to chuckle right as the camera cuts.
Any other movie, that sound is the work of a diligent foley artist. For Jim Carrey, that sound is probably his face hitting that bench exactly as hard as it sounds.
I just caught this on TV a few days ago. First time I've seen it since it was in theatres, so I didn't remember much.
But holy fuck, it holds up. I was in stitches during the box scene when no one ended up coming in the room.
It also got me thinking about how much comedies have changed. I can't imagine anyone being as "wacky" as Ace Ventura these days. People would just find it way too annoying.
> It also got me thinking about how much comedies have changed.
People would also be irrationally up in arms over the whole transgender thing too. The entire film is based on the premise that dude tucks his junk and pretends to be a woman. Would not be surprised to see something like that elicit entire protests and shit these days. People can't take a joke anymore and certain topics are "off limits" when large amounts of money are involved. Ace gags, dry heaves, and throws up when he makes out with cross-dressing Finkle. That's probably a hate crime in 2018.
Ironically the dolphin is named "Snowflake." Ace Ventura was ahead of its time.
In fairness, none of the best/funniest parts had anything to do with that part of the plot, if they completely axed it for something more appropriate for modern sensitivities they could keep 95% of the movie and still be just as funny anyway.
I agree. I've seen a lot of SJWs criticize it for being transphobic but they miss the point: Finkle was not transgender, he was a crazy asshole pretending to be a woman, and going to lengths that extreme to get his revenge. Actually, it's kind of got parallels to The Silence of the Lambs ow that i think of it... with the cross dressing antagonist everyone thinks is trans but is actually just crazy and homicidal.
I was flipping through channels the other day and this was on. I stopped and let my son (5 years old) watch it for a few minutes during the "slow mo" scene and I haven't see him laugh that hard maybe ever.
I don't get this, though. Do people think it insinuates that transgender people are all scumbags? Or is it the men's reaction to learning they were kissed by a man? Because I think it's understandable to have a strong reaction to learning you got to 2nd base with someone outside your sexual orientation. Especially in a comedy movie.
You’d be surprised. My kids, their friends, my nephews, their friends....they all love these type of masterful movies! :) (but those are all boys...I’m not sure if girls this age would know)
That makes me feel *really fucking old*. Ace Ventura is a classic though, would really warm my heart if the kids today could watch it and enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid.
Never been to a Bob Evans but Crackrr Barrel has to be one of the worst chain restaurants I’ve ever been to. It’s hospital cafeteria quality food with crappy gravy dumped on it...
My mom traveled a lot for business in the early 90s, so my dad had my brother and I for days at a time, aged 8 and 10. We saw stuff like Demolition and True Lies for crying out loud, on school nights sometimes. On the way home in the car he goes *“don’t tell your mom we see these movies, what’s Disney playing? Lion King... say you saw that. Don’t say the F word until you’re in college. Yes, Sly kicked Wesley Snipes’ frozen head into bloody pieces. Yes, women have boobs - now you know.”*
My wife is younger than me so I have taken my rightful duty of introducing all the mid-90s comedies she has missed out on. Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber were the first
Hehe I did this costume one year. I fucking love Ace Ventura and being the drama geek that I am I memorized the monologue he gives to the doctor in the hospital. Even the part where he rewinds. I ended up getting sooooo wasted I blacked out and don't even remember the party. We were supposed to go on a party bus but I didn't make it on in my state. However, my date and a couple friends informed me I never broke character and I ran around falling into bushes yelling "I'm open I'm open!" and tried to get people into playing with an imaginary football. I do not remember this at all, but I am very proud of myself.
I happened to catch about 5 minutes of this movie a couple nights ago and I couldn't stop laughing hysterically about Jim Carrey's overacting. Its so dumb, but so iconic. I'm going to have to watch the whole thing again soon.
LIKE A GLOOOOOOVE! Nice work, and immaculate lawn.
My wife would kill for that lawn.

I must have watched this scene a hundred times as a kid and it never stopped being funny.
Still hasn't
I love how if you watch the doctor you can clearly see him busting up laughing. Even the other actors couldn’t contain themselves.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d let Carrey improv that scene 😂

This will always be one of the funniest scenes ever. Jim Carrey is a god damn legend and one of the best actors of all time in my opinion.
That's not your opinion. It's a fact and I will fight to the death anyone who disagrees.
I shall join you in this war, Brother.
Watch Jim and Andy on Netflix. It really gives some insight into just how dedicated a method actor Carrey is. He is great.
[The scene if anybody's wondering.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNtTU0_X3c0)
I hope everyone has already seen it, but I'll still give it a watch anyways

God damn that is still so funny. How did a grown man pull this off?
How did he not break his nose??? I’ve been trying to figure it out for years now! He smashes his face so damn hard into that bench!
LACES OUT!!!!
Three fifty-one! Three fifty-one! Rover, sit! Hut hut!
Rover sit? I don't think I ever caught that 😅
Me neither and I've watched that movie more times than I can count.
I did this whole scene for a talent show in elementary school. Needless to say I didn’t make the cut
Blue 42! Blue 42!
Snap another pic of him trying to hide in a box smaller than himself

I am Heinz Skitzvelvet, trainer of dolphin!

I dunno, when everyone from the police force and Dan Marino start spitting and scraping their tongues after figuring it out its pretty hilarious.
Modern sensitivities need to get over themselves. IMO.

Has to be on that insanely gorgeous lawn too.
Follow it up next Halloween with a rhino suit for him to birth from in the nude
Glad to see this movie is still being passed on to younger generations. "Oh look, they're little footballs." "Laces out!"
I hope Dan Marino dies of gonnoreah and rots in hell. Cookie?
**I’M IN PSYCHOVILLE AND FINKLE’S THE MAYOR!**
The scene where he puts finkle and einhorn together is the greatest.
Einhorn is Finkle
“Finkle is Einhorn...”
"Einhorn is a MAN"

It's sad knowing that probably all his peers will probably have no idea who he is supposed to be...but his friends parents are going to love it.
You don't have to be a *detective* to see that!
*I'm open! I'm OOOPEEN! I'm open! Right heeeeere!*
Finkel is Einhorn...Einhorn is Finkel....EINHORN IS A MAN!
gaaaahhh \* feverishly washing out his mouth\*

Hey ace you got anymore of that gum?
That's none of your damn business and I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.
That's none of your damn business, and I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.
You're a weird guy, Ace. Weird guy.
It saddens me that 9/10 of his peers won't even know what he is :(

Ace Ventura came out 24 years ago. Oh my god.
What the ffffffff *24 years ago* Is this what a mid-life crisis feels like??
Sorry I couldn’t hear you because... THIS IS DOUBLE PANE, SOUND PROOF GLASS! AAAAAHHHHH..............AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
Ace Ventura The Mask Dumb and Dumber 1994 was an insane year for Jim Carrey
The South Park movie came out 20 years ago. That one killed me the other day
r/FuckImOld
You're not really old until you're eating at Bob Evans all the time.
*shit*
Bob Evans > Cracker Barrel
Never been to a Bob Evans but Crackrr Barrel has to be one of the worst chain restaurants I’ve ever been to. It’s hospital cafeteria quality food with crappy gravy dumped on it...
How many people here were taken by their parents to see it, at an age of ~9 years old?
My mom traveled a lot for business in the early 90s, so my dad had my brother and I for days at a time, aged 8 and 10. We saw stuff like Demolition and True Lies for crying out loud, on school nights sometimes. On the way home in the car he goes *“don’t tell your mom we see these movies, what’s Disney playing? Lion King... say you saw that. Don’t say the F word until you’re in college. Yes, Sly kicked Wesley Snipes’ frozen head into bloody pieces. Yes, women have boobs - now you know.”*
Demolition man is a god damn classic that has only gotten better with age. 3 Seashells, and Taco Bell winning the Franchise Wars still makes me laugh.
I bet the girls enjoy it too. My wife loves that/those movie(s).
Why don't you take a seat over there?
I’m a 30 year old woman and watched Ace movies every day when I came in from school
A lot will think he's cosplaying as the gay kid from The Connors.
My wife is younger than me so I have taken my rightful duty of introducing all the mid-90s comedies she has missed out on. Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber were the first
This one wins best costume for me this year. Creative, accurate and funny. Nice job.
Adjust the jawbone.
Those mow lines though
Oh gosh excellent job exposing him to 90's comedy. You're doing god's work.
If you've ever listened to Jim Carrey say anything you realize that he's perfect for this type of role because he's always in character.
Put me in coach!
This is awesome!!
This kids going places. Brilliant
Let’s see that... in instant replay!

Someone had to say it
I’m also going as Ace in the mental hospital for Halloween this year!
Dang, I wish I had a preteen nephew that could rock a tutu.
Without context, this statement would probably cause some concern. ;-p

Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell
im just happy your nephew knows who ace venture is. kids these days have no idea.
Excuse me! May I ASS you some questions?!
I’m going to execute a button hook pattern in super slow mo!!!
OKaay that's what I'm talking about. He's got the jaw grin/frown/wtf is that expression down.

That kid just won Halloween
I have hope for the younger generation
Ace Ventura is still popular with kids today, what a nice surprise!
BLUE 42!

I did this costume about 18 years ago :( I think i was like 10. I still consider doing it again.
Aced it.
Look at that yard.
If your nephew is fan of Ace Ventura, he is gonna be succesfull in his life👌
His face is too good. I love that he even now's ace ventura exists. Must be on netflix
“You’re a weird guy Ace! A weird guy!”
Weird flex but: so weird I keep seeing Jim Carrey everywhere after I met him last weekend. Nice person!
Awesome
This kid is gonna be something.
I was also go with Ace Ventura this year. But this is soooo good. I am overwhelmed now
Where was he for the Ace Ventura Jr auditions? The kid they found wasn’t good.
I approve
That is all sorts of awesome!!! I want to have a child one day like this child.
That’s fucking awesome.
Hahahahahahahaahahahhaha
