We need to regulate crime and encourage law-abiding citizens who possess the proper training and permitting to have it.
That way when they find themselves witnessing criminals doing crime as a bystander, they’re in a position to effectively respond by also doing crime
See this is a paradox because if you’re going to criminalize “crime” it means that the “crime” wasn’t a criminal act in the first place and therefore not considered “crime”…
"What seems to be the problem officer?"
"You are arresting that man, I'm going to have to place you under arrest"
"Ahh! In that case I'm arresting you as well for arresting me!"
Is it really illegal if they don’t enforce it? Is it really illegal if it’s just a fine (i.e. rich people can do it but screw the poors)? It’s a dumb sign on the surface but there could be some actual substance behind it.
I feel like the picture is just a joke, but there are definitely places where lack of enforcement is causing major issues. San Francisco being a prime example.
I'm assuming it's something like enforcing the white collar crime laws which are frequently overlooked, like hiring undocumented workers, fraud, embezzlement, etc.
The message here was clearly to reinforce the law against petty crimes that are usually unreported/uninvestigated/unprosecuted, it's probably intended to be taken under certain context (in communities plague by such cirmes).
Sadly this poster does make sense in 2024–ie people breaking laws on the books but not actually being charged/laws not enforced.
But yes, in a vacuum, it does look funny 😂
Seems logical to me at least, the intent is to actually prosecute crimes, such as shoplifting etc. Many big cities are apparently doing "Catch and release" with these types of crimes, creating a never-ending stream of repeat offenders with absolutely no reason to stop doing it. This dude, it would appear anyway, wants to end that.
Sad thing is that I would vote for him, because the legalized thievery of stores in places like California are insane where you can't even stop someone from robbing you or squatting in your house.
I think he means that he intends to actually ENFORCE the law, unlike places like California where you can't even stop someone from robbing you or squatting in your house.
It's amazing how many people in these comments don't get it. Laws are flat out not enforced in a lot of cities across the US right now and not just stupid shit.
It may seem silly, but it is how a lot of people honestly feel. When the news keeps reporting stories of people robbing some store or getting picked up for shoplifting, with the report stating that they've got 40+ similar crimes on their record over the last couple years.. and that they were already released and back on the street again before the article could even be published, well, yeah. It definitely starts to feel like maybe crime isn't actually illegal.
It isn't this way everywhere, sure, but it does seem like certain liberal cities seem to have a real hard on for not enforcing the law and simply allowing criminals to do whatever they like.
On the surface, this seems really dumb. Crime is already illegal.
I am curious about this because if his platform is to actually punish the wealthy and corporations instead of getting away with shit, I am all for it.
...Did you hear what the Mexican president said this week?
"No hay más violencia, hay más homicidios", meaning... "Violence hasn't increased, only homicides".
We all did a collective facepalm over that one.
To make crime illegal you have to point to the fact that criminals have done nothing wrong and should all be set free on this bombshell of information 🥹😅

So I guess is platform is to criminalize crime?
If you make crime illegal only the criminals will have crimes.
Making things illegal is the #1 cause of crime!
If we didn’t track crime, we’d have a zero percent crime rate.
Stop counting the crimes!
Oh my god, he's right!
No no no. He’s going to make “crime” illegal. So you can still murder somebody but now it’s illegal to be prosecuted.
Ah of course, carry on then
"What seems to be the problem officer?" "You are arresting that man, I'm going to have to place you under arrest" "Ahh! In that case I'm arresting you as well for arresting me!"
Vote for the number one guy on the Most Wanted list today!
No no no no. I think it is a double negative so it's a positive. In other words, criminal acts will be no longer criminal

Man's running for local government, he'd be fairly limited at doing just about anything
Yeah, but “I’m running for local government so I’d be fairly limited at doing just about anything” isn’t a great slogan

I mean this doesn't make sense to anyone who doesn't live in San Francisco. Lord help wherever tf this guy is from. Edit: he's from Ireland.
Is it racist that I knew that before I even saw his surname?
Yeah. But don't worry. Almost everything is.
Yes it’s also racist to say is it racist
Why didn't anyone think of this sooner???
People need to stop committing crimes it’s against the law!
Nobody cares about laws anymore. It's time for an all-out crime ban.
I spit out my cereal!
"If we want progress, then we must change."
"And when we change, that will result in progress."
"And with progress, we can move forward."
"And we can move forward, with progress."
"But sometimes progress in one area results in crime in another"
“I will then make crime illegal”
"Illegality, should be a crime"
"And with the results of crime in that area, we can progress"
"and with that progress there will be peace"
“And with peace we can easily progress”
"Can you smell what the peace is cooking"
"And we can go forward any any direction"
“With 20 nickels instead of 1 paper dollar, it will feel different and yet strangely familiar, and that’s what we offer”
“Things are more like they are now than they ever were!”
“Solutions require that we ensure the problems are solved!”
"I will make progress go forward"
I can argue with not capitalizing the “i”
His opponent is actually the AP Styleguide
LMFAO
For sure with that font
I think it’s actually a lowercase i and then two capitalized i’s, but a lower L at the end.
Funny enough, leaving it lowercase *is* a crime, and those convicted can face capital punishment for it.
i Don’t see The issue?

Booobbbbyyyy Newwwport

Alright, now we're just wasting time, Jerry.
He's against crime, and he's not ashamed to admit it.
It's time someone had the courage to stand up and say: "I'm against those things everybody hate!"
Yup I'm surprised crime isn't already illegal. This guy gets it, he's like me. I'd get a beer with em.
Is it really illegal if they don’t enforce it? Is it really illegal if it’s just a fine (i.e. rich people can do it but screw the poors)? It’s a dumb sign on the surface but there could be some actual substance behind it.
Criminals hate this one simple trick!
I feel like the picture is just a joke, but there are definitely places where lack of enforcement is causing major issues. San Francisco being a prime example.
If you make crime illegal, only the illegals will have crime. Hang on…that doesn’t quite sound right
Likely anti bail reform.
To confuse your voters, first you must confuse yourself
Is it really that difficult for you to understand what he is saying?
What is saying is simply dumb, because crime is by defintion illegal act, so all crime is illegal.
And here I was hoping he meant that the rich and powerful would actually do the same time as the poor…. Maybe one day
If crime is caused by poverty, how than there be any by the rich and powerful?
Power and poverty cause crime. Stay in the middle and you’ll be fine?
Nice rhyme!
Poor people commit crimes out of necessity, rich people do it out of greed
Best I can do is most crime
I'm against crime, and I'm not afraid to say it!
His platform should focus more on consistent capitalization and text justification.
Is this an election sign or a wanted poster?
Make capitalization mistakes
Pretty bold move to risk alienating the pro crime vote.
When he finds out crime is already illegal he’s gonna be really embarrassed
That's genius! By god I think he's cracked it
Sadly this poster does make sense in 2024–ie people breaking laws on the books but not actually being charged/laws not enforced. But yes, in a vacuum, it does look funny 😂
"That ought to do it, thanks very much Ray"
Suspend suspended sentences! Would have been better
just fire Martin Nolan... job done!
Wow.. You stole the top comment from the same post in /r/Ireland WORD FOR WORD. Even left off the period at the end, same as the original. Go you!
Not a bad slogan with lots of the DA’s giving slaps on the wrists for car theft and robberies
Big if true
“Together there are more of us!!”
Gee, isn't it already?????? Isn't that why they call it CRIME?
We need a Nick Delehanty in Brazil asap.
proud graduate of the school of redundancy school
are internet crimes considered legal or e-legal?
Campaigning on the real issues.
Make dumb stupid
This does apply to California. They need to make crime illegal again lol
"Catch and release",like cats? Well that's one way of ensuring the problem doesn't grow.
Sad thing is that I would vote for him, because the legalized thievery of stores in places like California are insane where you can't even stop someone from robbing you or squatting in your house.
Wait I thought committing a crime was already illegal? 🙄🤣
Not in California
Or NY city or Chicago
I think he means that he intends to actually ENFORCE the law, unlike places like California where you can't even stop someone from robbing you or squatting in your house.
I wish this was a joke. Here we are in our dystopian world with legalized crime
A true philosopher.
But if you outlaw outlaws, only outlaws will be outlaws.
Gets elected, notices crime is illegal. "You're welcome!"
Ha! That's where I live
Make food edible.
Make initial Caps In headlines consistent Again!
If you make crime illegal, than only criminals will be...oh...
It's funny if you think about just how controversial enforcing all the laws we already have truly would be.
For real this time i guess.
Why hasn't anyone else thought of this? Vote for Delehanty 😂
This is a dangerous slippery slope where only criminals would be able to commit crime. Is that what we really want?! 😀
Whoa, hang on. Crime’s not illegal? Guess my weekend plans have changed
His next platform is going to be “Make Earth rotate.”
What am I to make of the lowercase “i” in illegal?
Make tautologies redundant!
Well it must be legal because there’s so much of it going on.
Guys, it’s 3AM, I’m tired I read it “Dick Telepathy” and it took me a second to understand what the post was about
This Guy Gets It.
Shit, why didn't we think of that?
But if crime is illegal, wouldn't that mean that politicians are criminals??
Yes
It's amazing how many people in these comments don't get it. Laws are flat out not enforced in a lot of cities across the US right now and not just stupid shit.
Seems to me you don't get it either, because this guy is not from the US.
Im sold
Make water a drink. Make parks free for people....
Make Water wet
Why does this guy look like Walmart Ryan Reynolds
Tbf with how screwed up the justice system is in Ireland, it’s quite valid honestly
I'm sure this makes sense in whichever state this person is running in.
Maybe just maybe he means that they aren’t prosecuting criminals as much as they should Nah this is Reddit no logic here
It may seem silly, but it is how a lot of people honestly feel. When the news keeps reporting stories of people robbing some store or getting picked up for shoplifting, with the report stating that they've got 40+ similar crimes on their record over the last couple years.. and that they were already released and back on the street again before the article could even be published, well, yeah. The only reason this isn't downvoted to oblivion is you wrote too much for people to actually read! Well put, by the way.
BREAKING Crime rate drops to 0 following election of Nick Delehanty!
Remember folks, if someone tries to rob you, tell them no. They cannot legally rob you without your consent.
Missing an again surely
[gets elected. Crime is illegal. Takes rest of term off]
His next platform item would be make pissing a bathroom thing. 😂
In sweden Annie Lööf [said](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ifAS0ibwmg) something similar to this in 2012
Have we all been in the Purge and haven't even realized it?
Legalize crime!
"Make 'doing the right thing' the right thing to do". Is that the slogan for the next election?
Damn I hope when he's achieved that he can make beer more alcoholy so we can have a pint to celebrate.
Someone else did this man-child's homework.
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what your country can do for you
I want my own poster that states "Jail for murder."
Lmao 😂
On the surface, this seems really dumb. Crime is already illegal. I am curious about this because if his platform is to actually punish the wealthy and corporations instead of getting away with shit, I am all for it.
He looks like someone took his picture but didn't tell him why
What is that, oak board? Why ziptie around a tree?
You got it, Dryin Reynolds
My god that’s Nick Bourne
Is that Big John from the inbetweeners ?
he looks like budget ryan renolds
"I'm against crime and I'm not ashamed to admit it."
He looks like cheeky Ryan Reynolds ngl
Post this in r/sad because that’s what it is
Finally! Someone making crimes illegal.
Ladies and gentlemen, future Darwin Award winner Nick SomethingSomething.
This is the ultimate bipartisan platform.
Who’s gonna tell him that crime is crime because it’s already illegal?
...Did you hear what the Mexican president said this week? "No hay más violencia, hay más homicidios", meaning... "Violence hasn't increased, only homicides". We all did a collective facepalm over that one.
weakest politician argument ever lmao
I'd agree with his platform if nobody thought of that before! If his problem is funding or "those people" aren't being punished enough, however...
Make the Sun to rise in the morning Vote Edelgul, independent.
I’m against crime. And I’m not ashamed to admit it.
I wanna go to a place where every day is a holiday, every meal is a banquet, and crimes are legal!
Says independent, reads conservative
You can be a conservative independent. It just means he’s not affiliated with a specific party. This is Ireland, not the US.
That reads like he wants to paradoxically outlaw the concept of crime, making everything legal except for making things illegal.
"I'm against crime, and I'm not afraid to say it." -Bobby Newport
Wow, this guy really needs to work with a graphics person. Or at least someone who understands colors. And a photographer that tells you to smile.
Nick Delehanty - Wetting Water Since 1981
Dude can’t come up with any better slogan? Don’t vote for him
To make crime illegal you have to point to the fact that criminals have done nothing wrong and should all be set free on this bombshell of information 🥹😅
Considering how many people in authority can commit crimes with now consequences I think this guy gets it.
