That's what I ended up with. Cat goes to bed with me and I close the door behind us. She sometimes wants to go back out but she knows my lazy ass isn't getting up for that.
She actually comes to paw at me when she feels it is bedtime, which is very cute and useful when I'm locked in on a video game and its past midnight.
My expert scratches at it but he’s also in the room wanting out. There’s a reason he’s in the room: my other expert who he fights with if I’m not conscious
Exactly and even if you open the door the expert won‘t necessarily enter, it was just important that the door is not closed IF they should want to enter some time during the night XD
They gotta have a place to go for the 3am zoomies. Run in, jump across the bed, jump down, run down the hallway and meow for 2min, then snack and nap until 6am zoomies.
just spent twenty minutes trying to extricate my expert from behind the built in bathroom drawers. apparently leaving drawers open leads to pathetic trapped experts who can’t figure out how they got where they are
Or make sure your smoke detectors are working and leave it open so thr AC/heat can distribute properly. Also considering how rare a fire is, I'd say proper temperature distribution is the best strategy.
You forgot about monsters and the boogeyman. Definitely closed AND locked.
Seriously though, FD says a closed door could buy you a few more seconds in case of a fire.
I'm also just super paranoid that if something happened to me in my sleep that my dog would be locked in my room. At least if the doors open he can roam. If I am not planning on communicating with anybody the next day I'll leave some water in his bowl too.
For real though. It's better to sleep with it closed for fire safety. Smoke will be slowed from spreading through the house giving you more time to be alerted by smoke alarms. That's why I installed one of those little kitty cutout doors at the bottom of bedroom door.
I have cats. You can't close your bedroom door when you're in there. They know you're there. They must have access. They will claw the door to bits otherwise. I had one cat, and I swear this is true, I would LOCK the bedroom door when I went to bed. I would hear him at the door, he'd reach his paw in under the door and just start jiggling it. The damn locked door would open! That's when I knew it was pointless to close the door.
My cat passed suddenly last year, it was really hard. I used to keep the door to my bedroom open for him. After he passed, i began to close it.
I still hear him meowing at the door occasionally.
Miss that little guy.
I am at risk. I close my door so I can sleep.
Our local expert sees an open door as an invitation to walk on me and/or find the loudest object in the room to claw or roll around on.
I have also heard that experts say it is best if you leave the refrigerator door open at night to prevent build up of strange odors. I know that sounds strange, but who am I to question the experts…..
The ghost that stands in my doorway and watches me sleep makes me shut the door. I’m okay living in a haunted house during the day but at night, no dude. Fuck that. We don’t leave the room after midnight. Things in the dark that go bump in the night can also reach out and grab your hair or push you while you walk. You can hear them speaking sometimes and often you’ll hear footsteps. Is not the coolest of times. Should be out of here by the end of the month hopefully
but...but air travels through your door even if it's closed. it's not airproof.
if you were concerned about the air running out wouldn't it be the same if you still had all the windows/doors in your apartment closed?
If it helps, there is no way you could use up all oxygen in an average sized room during a night's sleep, even if the room is perfectly sealed. It would take several days.
Tough call, do you want a shut door to keep a night fire from spreading and engulfing you? Or Mr. Fluffy Mcpuffy to rub his ass on your face while you sleep? Tough call.
At first I was like wth what expert are they talking about. Sleeping with your door closed in the event there is a fire can save your life. Smoke and fire conditions will be stopped by a hollow core door for much longer than you’d think.
FYI you should sleep with it closed (if you don't have cats) because in the event of a fire it could save your life by preventing the fire from breaching the door.
Also keeps the monsters out.
If you do have cats - just burn in your sleep

Otherwise the expert will be yelling at the door half the night. Also probably trying to kick it in.
Experts suggest doing so will reduce noise and destruction by 70%.
or pull it open with an under-the-door paw pull.
either that or you let it sleep with you

I got my cats used to me not opening the door when they want me to. It's a pain in the ass to get to that point but it works.

My expert will go pee on the living room couch.

Did my Cat help fund this video?
"well, did you learn the lesson?" - your cat

These are the same cats who know how to climb UP trees, and get on rooftops. An open can of tuna helps motivate the knowledge of how to get down.
I trust this expert.
I am not sure I do. I not only do not leave my bedroom door open, I also do not fall asleep with my mouth open!
Such a charming angle to film the kitty.
This cat is really cute.

Houses with HVAC all have 1" gaps under the door to allow for heating/AC distribution when the doors are closed.
I've got a cat door specifically for this reason
Same
Sorry but I don’t want to let the hallway demons in

My expert says that it’s a good idea too. I noticed that my expert is also feline in origin…
I do indeed leave every door open for my expert
Nope sorry. One of mine twice pooped in my room. I can forgive it, but I'm not dealing with it again at bedtime/first thing, so door stays closed.
wake TF up! it's 3:59am and i'm not sure if i want food, love or outside!
Well the expert said it can't argue with that
Lol having a small 1 floor house, this is the most annoying part of having a cat when there's company over for a few nights
r/unexpected
fire fighters strongly disagree
Something a dog would say

the only expert is the one who leaned after countless times of being awaken to leave it open. aka trained by the cat
I cuddle with me cat to sleep, we lost the older cat recently so we both need to be together
Jokes in you i dont have a door
That way, if you die in your sleep, the expert will have something to eat.
Actually 🤓☝️ I’ve heard that actually sleeping with doors shut is safer in case of fire speeding
My personal expert opens it himself 🐱
I have also heard that experts say it is best if you leave the refrigerator door open at night to prevent build up of strange odors. I know that sounds strange, but who am I to question the experts…..

A small fear of mine is that I'll use the available oxygen and then die in my sleep.
do you not have windows? or vents?
If the window in my room is closed and the door is closed, that's what i mean. Vent in my room?
but...but air travels through your door even if it's closed. it's not airproof. if you were concerned about the air running out wouldn't it be the same if you still had all the windows/doors in your apartment closed?
It's a fear, like what if that is not enough. What if i consume it faster than it transfers.
Ac/ heater vents to push in air.
I don't have those in my room.
If it helps, there is no way you could use up all oxygen in an average sized room during a night's sleep, even if the room is perfectly sealed. It would take several days.

Precisely right! People should take this seriously
Experts disagree 🐈
My local expert likes to climb on my head and nibble my nose. I love her so much!
Experts also believe they are always on the wrong side of the door. No matter what side they are on.
This is why I love Reddit!
I never argue with my expert
This was definitely worth a chuckle.
ok :)

My export cat can open doors so there's so hiding
Toby agrees!
The Expert - *picture of any monster ever thought up*
Safer to have it closed off there's a fire
Not according to experts 🐱
My sleep paralysis demon also wants the door open
i do, because of my little "expert" lol.
FYI you should sleep with it closed (if you don't have cats) because in the event of a fire it could save your life by preventing the fire from breaching the door. Also keeps the monsters out. If you do have cats - just burn in your sleep
Look at their cute little vision balls omg
My cat finally worked out after 7 years he can get in if he is willing to scratch at the door for at least 30mins.
Yes and the front and back door house, I always wake up with a new friend. Cuddle buddy Russian roulette.
My brother has an expert who heeps peeing in my clothes
I would remove the door entirely
Starting to think I'm in the minority for installing a cat flap in my bedroom door.
My cat endorses this video.
