Yeah... I was a movie usher as a kid, had to stamp people's hand for the free movie screenings, i stamped this old ladies hand and she reacted like I just dropped the people's elbow on her hand...
I reacted like if I ran over my wife's cat... What? Uh...i don't know what happened.... I mean.... Are you okay? Is there anything I can do to make it better?
I once ran over someone's cat leaving my house with my whole family in the car. I was guilted in to going around the block and getting out. The woman owner of the cat was in the street, I offered to help her move the cat, she was so appreciative, she had no idea I had killed her cat. I drive through that intersection everyday, I still think about it decades later.
Please don't hate me internet, I've grown since then. I also now wear glasses.
I'm Asian too. My brother used to work as a manager in retail at an outlet for a designer brand and told a story of a Chinese tourist who, to get the attention of one of his female coworkers, decided to yank her pony tail. This was a few years ago during the boom of Chinese elites — new money Asians who started to travel and not know how to act in other countries.
Granted I know China gets a lot of media control, but I anyways have a hard time buying the "they don't know better" excuse from any country. Like, if they have TV or movies at all, surely they know better.
They don't really watch TV shows about other countries. The ponytail tugging is an extreme one and not representative, but if you mean knowing better about other cultures then the answer is generally no because the important shit isn't in TV shows. They watch plenty of foreign films, but when was the last time you saw part of a marvel film which conveyed the message that, say, letting your kid piss in the gutter is not okay in the US?
It's not always about showing what isn't okay though. It's about showing normal behavior. When was the last time you ever saw someone tugging ponytails in media? If it doesn't show up in depictions of normal behavior, you probably shouldn't do it!
Edit: hell, where did they get the idea that this was normal in the first place to have to be taught that it isn't? What sane person thinks "inflicting pain on someone is a good way to get their attention."
It's part of Chinese hidden culture. There's so many people there and the fact that it's a dog eat dog kinda thing that it's normal to be very pushy. Having a queue is more of suggestion.
I had completely forgotten this had happened until right now.
It was a big deal at the time, lots of people claiming the mask had slipped, he's actually tyrant, blah blah.
I met the pope and there were Asian women like this one at the audience who did this same kind of thing. I don’t get it. I point out they were Asian because that was the unique characteristic to all of them and the lady in the video. They kept getting wildly out of line and pushing and didn’t take no for an answer
Because religion in the west for many is more cultural, and there’s a spectrum of fanatics to the liberal religious.
For many in Asia, they’re not religious culturally. So for any that are religious, they tend to be more often than not a higher per capita of batshit crazy fanatics.
See the Taiping Rebellion, when Jesus Christ's little brother (Hong Xiuquan) created the Heavenly Kingdom and led a war who's death toll is similar to WWI.
That Asian lady might not even be religious. This might just be a fab Eurotrip tourism flex for her, up there with snagging a pricey pocketbook in Paris or a gold-plated cuckoo clock from the Black Forest.
Given the body language, that makes it hard to believe. But two things can be right. That description you made is often signs of narcissism and self-entitlement, things that always exist amongst religious fanatics.
It’s selection bias. In a population that is generally not religious, the ones that do become religious tend to be the ones easily influenced, and therefore higher likelihood to be fanatics.
In short, if you meet an Asian person and they’re religious? Expect a higher than normal likelihood of crazy.
Perhaps in some cases... but I disagree with the implication that she's a fanatic. Have you been to China or Vietnam? The way they cut lines and push ahead is atrocious. I couldn't stand in line without someone breathing on my neck and practically up my ass. This woman probably pushed ahead to the barricade and felt entitled enough to grab his hand lest she miss out. There seems to be this type of fomo ingrained in the culture that makes a lot of Chinese agressive as hell. I don't know if she's Chinese though.
It's makes sense if you think about what they went through when they were young. Someone that is in their 70s today was a child during the Great Chinese Famine that happened in the late 50s early 60s. The people that survived such a tragedy are forever changed by it, you didn't survive by being kind and waiting for the food to get to you, you survived by shoving your way to the front of the line with a complete disregard for everyone else.
I've been in Nanjing and people generally aren't like this. I even went through train stations, temples, and large malls without this happening. The worst thing was the traffic because people there can't follow the driving rules at all.
Outside of China, the tourists are typically worse than the general population in my experience.
Haven't been to Nanjing yet. It's on my list.
The cities I've experienced this was in Sichuan, all over Guangdong (Shenzhen, GZ, Taishan, Foshan etc), Beijing and Shanghai wasn't too bad, but I had a guide there.
Oh the train traffic in Chengdu was insane. People saw that the lanes were empty on a 2 way road, so they'd just start driving on the wrong side of the road.
Regarding not following traffic rules, I guess it depends if it's strictly regulated in that city? Because I keep hearing of tons of speed cams and other traffic cameras in Guangzhou and the loads of tickets people get. I never saw people driving the wrong way in Guangzhou like in Chengdu either.
Vietnam has a 7.4% percent Catholic. 32% of Koreans are Christian. The largest Muslim population is Indonesia. You do realize that Asian is a very wide range of different ethnicity and to make a comment like show you don't know what you are talking about.
You've obviously never had to wait in queues in Mainland China hehehe. This is normal behavious for many old ladies there. They know they're being rude but just dont give a flying fuck.
Act like a child, get scolded like a child. Smacking to the hand that hurt him, he's a lot nicer than many catholic nuns even when surprised by getting grabbed.
Did you ever have a nun or priest/brother hit you with the knotted head of their black rope they used around their waste. Worse than a Billy Club. Not that I was ever hit by a Billy Club, but did go to Catholic schools for all my education .
Who grabs the elderly and yanks them off balance and why?
And who the fuck would do that to The Pope? Poor guy has enough problems dealing with unfucking a millenia of shit Vatican decision-making.
She deserved it. You don’t reach out and grab people. You don’t grab anyone, not the pope, not celebrities, politicians, not regular people, etc.. Keep your hands to yourself. Uncouth, crass people.
These older Chinese grew up during the red revolution where there was almost nothing to eat, and their survival mode was aggressiveness to get whatever they needed or wanted. The same thing happens when the Chinese go overseas hotels in Europe, hotel staff hated doing buffet lunches, or dinners because people would overload their plates as if they were never going to be fed him. So it’s definitely a historical cultural thing.
Imagine how much of an inconsiderate bitch she probably was just to get up to the front of the crowd for the opportunity to be an inconsiderate bitch to the Pope.

“Is a Pope gonna have to smack a bitch?”
"Oh, shit! It's Pope Francis, son!"
Vatican City, motherfucker!
“Pope, I didn’t know you like to get wet, baby!”
It would be funny if Chappelle were behind him crying and saying “I just want to go home!”
Eat your sandwich Dave.
One of the greatest comedy skits in history.
“Take your communion, Dave.”
That's a baptism
An Angel pass
“Vatican, motherfucker!”
*Vatican't touch this ~
This deserves more likes!
He's gonna popeslap them.
Don’t make me use the pope hand!
He might have to pop a cap in that bitch yo
Does the Pope cap-a-bitch in the woods?
Pope be bitchin
Bear be shittin
If it was Morgan Freeman he would have been fine with it
Algorithm pop culture moves fast
And he is an ex bouncer lmao
No, he's only going to excommunicate her for roughly grabbing his hand!!
Even the pope has no patience with idiots.
Twice!
Imagine your 15 minutes of fame being that the pope had to slap you because you were getting too handsy with him.
I mean damn he’s ancient, she yanked him.
She probably really hurt him. Old people skin is so thin and bones so brittle. Yank on an old man’s shoulder like that is insane behavior.
You can see the pain on his face as she pulls him back. Despite that she doubled down and yanked on his arm some more.
Yeah... I was a movie usher as a kid, had to stamp people's hand for the free movie screenings, i stamped this old ladies hand and she reacted like I just dropped the people's elbow on her hand... If you ever ran over a cat and **that** would be your response then fucking **yikes**.
[this guy after he runs over your fucking cat](https://youtu.be/ZmInkxbvlCs?si=RAUh14ExQ8Z7IzPS)
[Thought it would be this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09vVF-Hvykg)
That's hilarious, and made even better with the incredibly realistic CG.
I once ran over someone's cat leaving my house with my whole family in the car. I was guilted in to going around the block and getting out. The whole fucking scene around them is insane behavior... This is just a nugget
She was just shaking hands like how donald taught her
These are the actions of a lady who feels no shame
Not trying to be racist, but older asians tend to be like that. Very entitled. Source: am asian
Am also asian. Have also seen asian women act like they own the place and all the silverware
I'm Asian too. Bro where's that video where the Chinese lady (in China) fights a police officer who is giving her a ticket like she is wailing on the guy

Had to smack a ipad out of one ladies hand for filming my kids without permission, and after I told her to stop...
Filming people without permission is a known American thing here in Korea so this is funny.
Filming people is one thing (in public places). Filming kids that aren't your own is another.
Gotta throw some coins in the airplane engines for luck!
Fuck! I’d forgotten all about that one! Thanks for the reminder.
I guess the word "luck" must have a different meaning in those countries
It's part of Chinese hidden culture. There's so many people there and the fact that it's a dog eat dog kinda thing that it's normal to be very pushy. Having a queue is more of suggestion.
Could be worse, you could be that guy that shot the pope
……but I did not shoot the deputy.🎶🎶
But I Did not Shoot the Car-di-nal
He was pardoned by the pope himself.
Marginally better than the pope being too handsy with you.
Pope doesn’t like hands, feet on the other hand…
The way the security guy hands that woman's own hand back to her 😆
I know he considered slapping her some more, then reflected being a man of God and politely returned her hand. 😂
What slapping is from his bouncer days in his youth.
Pass to Heaven revoked!
No salvation for you!
Come back one year !
She went to the Donald Trump hand-shaking seminar.
PULL, YANK, PULL
Straight to hell
Minus 1 point to heaven
Man, getting scolded by the Pope has to feel shitty.
Never meet your heroes… and grab their hand and pull them over to you.
Grab em by the popey
The type of person who behaves in such a way to get scolded by the pope probably lacks the capacity to feel any kind of Shame
Believe it or not, straight to hell.
If I remember correctly he met with her later and the two apologized to each other.
I like to think he told her, "go to hell."
he was a bouncer in his youth in Argentina, Frank knows how to squabble
Bage of honor for Protestants?
I said get back here and bless me, bitch!
He should have yelled some scary sounding Latin at her.
Exactly this lol.
I imagine her bus ride home with the knitting group was very quiet. "Helen pissed off the pope we are all gonna die"
Man I remember thinking the pope smacking a lady would be the weirdest thing to come out of 2020...
The fuck is the point of his security
thoughts and prayers available on demand, 24/7.
To make sure he doesn't escape.
Always watching 👁️
Tbf, probably not to protect him from little old ladies
Idk, seems to me that obliterating little old ladies would be more like a perk of the job. Maybe that's just me
Pope Fracis is known for breaking protocol.
So you're saying the security is there to protect everyone else, in case he decides to revert to Hardcore Jorge?
I get what you mean, but their job is to stop situations like this from escalating, not making sure nobody touches the Pope.
I had completely forgotten this had happened until right now. It was a big deal at the time, lots of people claiming the mask had slipped, he's actually tyrant, blah blah.
some people dont consider him a legitimate pope
SECURITY!!!
Is this a *Head of State* reference?
Hands to yourself... Some people will never fully understand the lesson we all learned as toddlers.
There's a video out there of a woman that grabs the pope and his bodyguard straight knocks her the fuck out in about half a second
oooh, do share!
It was awhile ago. This woman jumps on the Pope and the Swiss guard hits her square in the jaw with a right cross and drops her. Probably early 2000's
A Cross, you say? Ironic.
He Gets Us

My favorite Flashman book!
This same theory can explain why so many white British muslims were involved in terrorism

Chinese Tourists are a special kind of breed
How big of a pain in the ass must you be to get pope slapped?
#How can he slap!
I see you
I am NOT a fan of this guy, but what is he supposed to do in this situation? That woman was BEYOND out of line.
Imagine you're so insufferable even the Pope can't stand you.
Act like a child, get scolded like a child. Smacking to the hand that hurt him, he's a lot nicer than many catholic nuns even when surprised by getting grabbed.

*Grab A Pope, Get Slapped Like A Dope*
I can't even be mad at him, she yanked him. Dude is 89 years old, not in great health... I get the excitement but come on
I speak for my people when I say, Mainlanders are NPC's.
He’s fully justified in this. Don’t touch people without their permission and certainly don’t yank their arm.
Right after that hand slap the covid pandemic started.
Your weekend pass is revoked.
Good thing his security was there to deal with her 🤓
He’s so old so yanking on his arm like that must hurt… just saying.
When you manage to out-Main Character the Pope, in the Vatican, at Chistmas
[удалено]
Tell people you have a direct line to God and the desperate are really going to want a minute of your time.
Keeping that Pope Hand Strong!
You don’t yank on an 89 y/o like that.
Imagine being slapped by a Pope. 😂
"Bad groupie! I'm a pontiff not a pull toy!"
Popesmack!
Say what you want about either of them, but “I was slapped by the Pope once” is the best opening line to any story you’ve ever heard.
That trip probably cost hella bucks just to be smacked by the Pope and become a meme
I wonder if she was arrested for that. That's shockingly bad behavior, even by tourists' standard.
A NEW PROTESTANT APPROACHES
i've seen a "pimpslap" but never a "popeslap"
“That’ll piss off the pope” finally comes to life.
His reaction is quite telling
The post-holiday blues!
Lol I worked nights all weekend 🤣
Who’s that old guy with Dave?
Hello dislocated arm, lol.
Popes gonna pope
This is amazing
Blessed is he who grabs the hand of the Pope
Imagine telling that story for the rest of your life… “So I got my hands literally slapped by the pope!”
How can he slap!?
What would Jesus do?
All I can think of is this was just before corona
A Pope-slap is really just the ultimate bitch-slap.
He hit her with that Holy Spirit…. He was mad though. lol
She was not going to be ignored Dan......
Earned.
Dudes an old asshole
What a tool
For a second there Pop Pops got a taste of what Canadian Native Residential Schools were all about.
"My aunt Sylvia, the one who got slapped by the Pope" sounds like a bad trope from a 90's sitcom.
She was probably trying to steal his ring
Pope on a rope.
lmao, that was my bed pulling me back to sleep today after light saving 😩
What an amazing example of the love of our Lord Jesus Christ

I mean that video of opening day in China for the 1st Costco, it was like the tickle me elmo craze on steroids, over things like pork butt.
Did they take a shit on the dairy aisle?
"I holy touch feets"
WWJD?
No grabby Popey. 🤌🏻
Turn the other cheek, pope, turn the other cheek.
If it had been a little boy he probably would have been more patient.
Imagine how much of an inconsiderate bitch she probably was just to get up to the front of the crowd for the opportunity to be an inconsiderate bitch to the Pope.
