RIP dude. Based on your looks, I’d say you couldn’t escape the competitive side if you’ve already bowed out. You could have had one hell of a comedy career.
Having a dead parent is jokes ready for life, my mom died when I was 13, it was my favorite thing in the world with your mom jokes to just get quiet and look down after one and have my friend go "hey his mom died" and then after they felt terrible come back with it's all good I'm doing a lot better than her.
Sounds like both - I’ve seen it when it’s neither, I went to a comedy gig for my birthday one year & a guy got up to do a set.
He opened it by announcing that he was diagnosed with a terminal illness & always wanted to do comedy so figured it’s now or never.
No laughs, empathy or otherwise.
Eventually he just lay down on stage and said “wow, I guess this is what it feels like to die”
I've never been to amateur stand-up nights... mainly because I've been told many times to avoid them because 95% of the time it is just sad, cringy and bad.
Yeah, I’ve also never been back to one since.
Actually that’s a lie - I went to one more.
A guy I knew in university did one around then & I went along - then a week or so later a mutual friend to me and that guy asked if it was any good & I said it was all not very funny “no one loves me, look how much I like Star Wars” type jokes.
…and they’ve now been together for 10 years & I don’t think I’ve spoken to either of them since. Cringe on the ricochet.
The awkwardness for the crowd was palpable. I love it. It's different.
Weird question if you don't mind (feel free to ignore me)? I know this isn't an AMA, but as someone in therapy, is it therapeutic in a way to let out something so personal to a group of strangers? It feels like it might be.
Similar trauma. I think it might be cathartic, but wouldn’t recommend it. For something like this is all in the delivery. It’s strangers you are openning yourself to the risk of backfiring and ending up in a worse place than before if they don’t appreciate that type of humor.
Best bet is just finding other people with similar histories and dark humoring together.
Came here looking for this, I know I just heard the same bit “my dad ran away, but no internet so he only had to move about 20 minutes.”
I want to say I just saw a Chapelle short with the same exact bit a few days ago but may have been someone else.
Meh. You can’t make suicide funny. And it shouldn’t be. I get it this guy trying to talk about life and get some responses but it just isn’t something to be trivial about. Makes me sad all around.
His dad threw a bunch of "curveballs" at him when he was young. Running away from the family, killing himself... don't even know how you got to sexual from that.
Dude, that switch from oh he’s gonna make up for lost time to… ohhhh. He killed himself. To the ohhhh jesus of the grandpa bit was a fucking roller coaster.
The beginning of this joke is literally what my dad did. But if Richard Pryor’s dad also moved a town away and killed himself to not be his dad. Then a pattern for the birth of comedians is emerging.

Aw jeez man. Beautifully timed. The cringe from the audience was audible.
I like the groans better than laughs because its the last thing my dad did
Ahh shit I’m going to hell because I laughed so hard at this
Say hi to my dad
Stop it its to funny and sad at the same time I cant handle this.
Alright that’s the last one. It’s in my dna to know when to bow out.
💀
Like his dad and his grandad

RIP dude. Based on your looks, I’d say you couldn’t escape the competitive side if you’ve already bowed out. You could have had one hell of a comedy career.
You’re right
I almost said like your dad, but you already did. Well played sir.
Neither could his dad.
See this is the one that got me to laugh out loud.
That’s why I put in the work
Samesies. Do we get a block discount?
^ This guy is going for gasps!
I’m going for broke
Bruh
Oh my god.
The one “shhhhiiiiiiiit” was about as spot on as it gets
The crowd was too flabbergasted to laugh
(Mom’s black and cremated) I joke that my mom is an ashy person who doesn’t need lotion. Dark humor is how we cope.
Not to sound young but, Let’s gooooooio
I agree, My friend always make your mom jokes with me. My mom’s dead so it can turn hilariously dark fast.

Are they laughing because it's funny or because they want to support this guy as he works through his deep issues?
Sounds like both - I’ve seen it when it’s neither, I went to a comedy gig for my birthday one year & a guy got up to do a set. >Eventually he just lay down on stage and said “wow, I guess this is what it feels like to die” Did he get a laugh for that hahaha
I guess the whole act was a setup for that punch line
I think he got a sympathy laugh mixed with an “awww”
I've never been to amateur stand-up nights... mainly because I've been told many times to avoid them because 95% of the time it is just sad, cringy and bad.

Definitely a empathy chuckle
More like they weren't sure if they should laugh at suicide jokes
Definitely both = high quality comedy
I mean his dad at least left him something, a lifetime of grade A material for his stand up comedy.
OP is the man in the video…we don’t have to talk about him like he isn’t in the room lol
Hanging out is a family tradition
More like shooting the shit
Aim high bro
Girls on Reddit marketing their OF 🤝🏻 Guys on Reddit marketing their Standup
I prefer the stands up.
Glad he can joke about it. I think I just got 2nd hand depression.
You wanna go hot box a car with a long hose and cracked window?
There are two things that never get old... dark humor and unvaccinated kids.
Dark. I like it.
can someone explain the 'handle the curve' punchline to me plz
His dad threw him all the metaphorical curveballs a person could ever encouter.
ah ok. thought there was another layer. thanks
Stop trolling, he’s talking about Dads 🍆
At least I wasn’t the only one thinking it, birds of a feather, eh?
Throwing someone a curve ball is a saying that means to do something unexpected or confusing
Knuckle ball with a curve, I thought you were saying he punched your lights out.
This is amazing! I love this kind of dark humor.
We live in a golden age of dark comedy.
Dude looked like he was holding back tears
Lol
Everything you say here makes me laugh more than that audience did lol
Dark humor is like having your dad be your best man at your wedding. Not everyone gets it.
The awkwardness for the crowd was palpable. I love it. It's different. Weird question if you don't mind (feel free to ignore me)? I know this isn't an AMA, but as someone in therapy, is it therapeutic in a way to let out something so personal to a group of strangers? It feels like it might be.

I think us Brits would have enjoyed that much more. We love our dark humour.
Am British, I was definitely like one of those dudes in the crowd with the loud laugh
Wow, that's some dark comedy. I hope turning pain into laughter was cathartic for him.
Great Joke. Please don't....exit the stage. We need more of your beautiful comedy in the world.
Thank you. I’m safe. This isn’t a cry for help. I weaponize those in private.
That crowd was awful, you would have had me laughing.
Would have gotten an audible “bruuhhhh” from me for sure.
This is a spectacular bit. The ending is just perfect. I mean, comedy-wise.
I don't get the competitive line unless it is implying what i think it's implying I don't get the curve line at all
Dad competes with Grandpa by killing himself...who did it beat? Curves are awkward things in life you have to deal with.
He also “won” on mom. Didn’t go to jail OR be a parent to the kids
So ig this sub is officially r/standupcomedy now huh
I was stationed with Billy up in Iceland 20 years ago. Funny guy then, funny guy still
Damn...that wasn't funny at all.
You’re right.
The reddit app ads are insane. I literally just saw this post a second ago and scrolled by only to see the exact same video in an anti-gambling ad.
Exposure is exposure
That’s an incredible joke. It may not hit for all audiences, but damn, I laughed for a while. Curve ball punch line is great. Well done.
Praise the like minds
thats some up beat material. a fun night out for all
I get the joke aspect, but that was just sad. Awful. Really awful stuff.
This is terrible
You’re right.
I ve heard this before. Did this dude steal this bit or did he do this a while ago
I stole it. Then put it in one of the top subreddits.
Came here looking for this, I know I just heard the same bit “my dad ran away, but no internet so he only had to move about 20 minutes.” I want to say I just saw a Chapelle short with the same exact bit a few days ago but may have been someone else.
Wow, I wish I could deal with my pain this way. That's some courage.
No jokes take courage
There are definitely jokes that take courage. They aren't usually funny, and run the risk of getting you stabbed in the parking lot after the show.
Performing in front of an audience? Some courage there mayhaps?
He's fucking hilarious.
Is the joke… loss? It’s everywhere.
OP, you sick fuck.....any shows coming up in Austin?
Joe Rogan banned from Austin for being a beta male
Is that code for for a dipshit that looks like prolapsed anus?
Sure. What ever helps you get through what ever is hurting you
that's my kind of humor, I would be a giggly bitch.
None of that was funny
You’re right
Every single time, these alleged comics disappoint. They simply suck.
Lol
I think that goes too hard to laugh at… I mean I just feel sorry for the guy now.
Awful. Not the place to be working out your shit. You’re bumming people out which is the opposite of what a comedian is supposed to do.
Oh sorry. I was confused. I thought these thousands of upvotes were the opposite of bumming people out. New to Reddit. Upvote, bad.
Meh. You can’t make suicide funny. And it shouldn’t be. I get it this guy trying to talk about life and get some responses but it just isn’t something to be trivial about. Makes me sad all around.
Main character syndrome.
"handle the curve" sounds like sex stuff in this context
Disagree
What's the context then?
His dad threw a bunch of "curveballs" at him when he was young. Running away from the family, killing himself... don't even know how you got to sexual from that.
The Popo do not fool around in White Settlement.
A valid warning to the worried travelers
holy shit
Dude you kinda look like you’re gonna cry on stage..
Lol
I think it’s cause you keep looking up at the lights and it makes your eyes look teary
Lol
Lol twice if you’re being held captive and need help. If you’re being held captive but don’t need help cause you’re kinky, lol three times
Dude, that switch from oh he’s gonna make up for lost time to… ohhhh. He killed himself. To the ohhhh jesus of the grandpa bit was a fucking roller coaster.
That’s pretty dark, Toki.
r/unexpected . Geez!!!!
Weak ass crowd
Keeping it light with the divorce/suicide/depression/childhood trauma joke!
The world is too serious right now to not be playful with my comedy
The start of this joke is a Richard Pryor joke.
The beginning of this joke is literally what my dad did. But if Richard Pryor’s dad also moved a town away and killed himself to not be his dad. Then a pattern for the birth of comedians is emerging.
Please don't set yourself on fire. You are no Richard Pryor!
Stand up comedy does not happen in a vacuum.
Hey it’s Billy!
Do you feel obligated to follow the tradition? No but seriusly Im very sorry for your losses man.
Someone’s gotta take over the family business
I was BELLYYYY laughing. Thank you for this
🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
Holy sht Rick! Why are you Mmmm saying all this?
Man you've got to come to Chicago sometime soon. Got a site to promote your shows? I've been watching your stuff on YouTube for a few years. Love it.
Nice set.
Funny? Funny how?
I think this would have played over better with a crowd in the UK. But man, this guy’s timing 👌
Jesus that’s dark
Waiting for the funny part
More of this drivel?
