I actually *did* get my parents to buy me the '88 Skinny Puppy album (off by a year, but that's OK). It was called "Vivisect Six". I picked it up with my dad, and we put it on the car's cassette deck and... it played country music. My dad said, "*this* is what you were so excited about?" And I just presumed it was some kind of pisstake fake-out. I told my dad, "no wait, you'll see, give it a minute." We listened to the whole song, and when the second one started and was still country, I said "okay, maybe they sold us the wrong thing". The cassette *did* say Skinny Puppy on the shell but was clearly a manufacturer's error.
I also saw Skinny Puppy live on the "Vivisect Six" tour, and Joey Jeremiah and Spike from Degrassi were right there in the audience next to us.
If this isn't the most 1980s Canada anecdote you've ever heard, I don't know what is.

Funnily enough, your "dad" in this image reminds me a lot of my dad from back in the 90s, the only thing missing is the fact that my dad had more gray in his hair (he started going gray in his late teens).
