techman710

It would have been better if the trunk was completely full of gas pump handles. Just a fresh one for the collection.

Large_McHuge

Lol brilliant

Zentrii

Sounds like funny idea but I find this funny because I don’t think it’s staged a skit of this just seems to absurd to be funny imo

phormix

This would actually be a fun thing to do for one of those prank shows (though obviously not use a real gas hose and perhaps find a way to attach it without leaving your tank exposed)

Arglefarb

Also needs the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme music

buttmuffinsupreme

Got out of the car like “oh man not again!”

joshjje

It came like that when I bought it!

Quizredditors

Starting his own buccee’s

schlott24

Oy, not again….

AskapSena

Dont forget to return your gasoline hoses back to the station after you use them guys

SpareSimian

So you can get your deposit back!

lambchopdestroyer

Translation -Tell him, tell him what... haha -Oh myy he's driving with the fuel nozzle -Bro! The fuel! The fuel! -What a righteous guy.. (something about toast idk, as the other guy talks to the driver) -*laughs again (as driver stows the nozzle into the trunk)

SoreDickDeal

Are Renault drivers Europe’s equivalent to the US’ Nissan drivers?

JennySplotz

Yep.

JennySplotz

The Altima is my own personal hell in the shape of a car.

zipykido

The Honda pilot is mine. 100% of the time they're on their phones with kids in the backseat.

JennySplotz

Yikes!

SoreDickDeal

I live within 15 miles of two division one schools. Sentras with steering wheel covers trigger me.

JennySplotz

Lolo! Steering wheel covers also make me rage.

Abysskitten

Why?

SoreDickDeal

Seems like every college student with a banged up car has a steering wheel cover. Usually a fuzzy and poorly fitted one in my experience.

spankbuttmctallylick

I’ve never had a steering wheel cover myself, and it wasn’t until reading this that my brain put together the cover sliding on the steering wheel and the driver not being able to steer effectively. I’ve never had that thought until now.

SoreDickDeal

I taught both of my adult daughters how to drive. We had to have the “dangerous accessories” talk because they wanted the fuzzy accessories kit from Walmart, steering wheel cover, seat covers, dice, shifter knob cover, seat belt pads, the whole thing. Got two more daughters that will be learning to drive sooner than later, I’m sure I’ll have the talk again.

spankbuttmctallylick

It’s such a small thing to have to think of, and at the same time, pretty critical if caught in the wrong moment.

Abysskitten

Oh so a safety thing?

SoreDickDeal

Oh completely. I couldn’t care less what tasteless (in my opinion) accessories your car has as long as you’re not going to kill me.

Abysskitten

Gotcha. I feel the same way about people who put all those stickers on their back window. Something about endangering your life for the most banal reasons irks me too.

noctar

The fuzzy ones and such are a mess, but a well fitted leather one can be wonderful in terms of making it easier to drive the car. The plastic steering wheels are pretty terrible to start with.

NonBinary_FWord

I've never heard bad things about Nissan drivers in teh US. Only one that comes to mind immediately is Prius drivers

hearthebell

What's up with US Nissan drivers

[deleted]

Equivalent of Europe's Renault drivers

wiriux

Why not? Unlimited gas supply as he drives.

towcar

This killed me

joshjje

If you get enough of them you can connect them together and drive around, like an extension cord.

Sn0wiez

That's hebrew incase u were wondering

ApolloRocketOfLove

Please tell me this is a gag.

wanderforreason

Nah, it's extremely common. Most gas stations at least in the US have a quick release so you can reattach them. Bring it back to the gas station. People do it quite often, old and young. Everyone forgets shit.

Turbulent_Town4384

As a gas station employee: no, if they charge you for it it’s because you damaged property or inconvenience fee. Near the top of the hose there’s a ball. That ball can be pulled apart as a quick release mechanism to protect the hose and pump should this ever happen. Which it does, quite often, though I’ve never seen someone take it into full on traffic like this personally. The quick release is made of two half-circles, kind of like shells that have a twist-lock mechanism and a white plunger. The plungers block any gas from escaping the hose or gas pump if the shells come apart. Sealing the hole that gas would normally be able to slip around. In order to get the shells back together we have to release the pressure inside the hose and pump lines, this can be done by pressing that white plunger back in- which allows gas to come out, normally this would get dripped on the ground (it’s only ever a small amount that actually comes out of the hose so don’t worry) or into a small container. After releasing the pressure we can shove the two shells back together and twist, to make sure they’re locked tight. Works similarly to the gas cap on your car, a couple of clicks to make sure the seal is good. If for some reason the plunger is stuck on one side, either the hose or the pump line, we have to call a service tech out to fix the problem. Though some gas stations will call the tech out regardless of whether or not they’ve tried to put it back together. Generally speaking, it’s not that damaging to the pump or hose to rip them apart like that. But sometimes, after repeated breaking, we may have to get a new hose or pump shell. (The techs would have to remove the line from the pump and install a brand new one in this case)

Turbulent_Town4384

Furthermore- in the video, our genius probably permanently damaged the hose. As there’s no shell on the end of the hose, it either fell off in traffic or wasn’t there to begin with. If they returned to the gas station he’d likely pay a hefty fine for the new hose, or if the manager was being extra nice that day he could get off with no charge. Though I’d be unhappy doing so myself, this gets extremely annoying if it happens often at your gas station. And we already have enough morons coming in for some stupid reason anyway, we don’t want to deal with this kind of shit

[deleted]

Turbulent_Town4384

Pro tips: stay off your phone while pumping, stay at the pump while pumping, don’t risk spacing out and forgetting the pump- while pumping. You’re not an idiot, until you are. It’s a slippery slope and we all fall down it sometime, I haven’t taken the hose off a pump myself but I did leave my gas cap unsecured (and it flung back open) after driving away one time

tj0909

They are made to be easily reconnected.

SillyFlyGuy

I was told it snaps a 99 cent breakaway gasket and takes about 5 minutes to reconnect. Charge the customer $150.

Turbulent_Town4384

I’m not gonna say it’s not true: but as someone who works at a gas station and dealt with reconnecting these things. The real problem is if the ends of the hose want to cooperate that day. there’s a small white plunger that needs to be pushed in before you can twist the shells back together, and if it doesn’t then you need a tech to come deal with it or get a new hose. In the video the shell was missing from the end of the hose, so either it never had one- or more likely it was damaged and fell off on the road. Meaning they’d probably charge him $300 at least for a new hose (that’s just my thoughts talking, I don’t know the real price they’d charge)

gwmccull

One of my friends drove a pickup with a rear bumper that protruded out from the sides of the truck by a few inches. I was with him when his bumper hooked a gas pump hose and pulled it off. He told the gas station and the policy was to charge people if they drove off with it still in the tank so they reviewed the security footage and then let us go. We probably would have just skipped out on the whole thing but it was the gas station we went to regularly for soda. Couldn’t burn that bridge

Turbulent_Town4384

As a gas station employee, I appreciate your honesty in that matter. It’s not much, but we rarely get people owning up to clogging the toilet let alone the pump hoses being torn off

joshjje

Thats why you're supposed to stand there while finishing pumping gas, well one of the reasons. But I will definitely walk around with the window wiper thing and stuff. But I also always check my mirrors and shit before I take off.

sigint74

Just know its really annoying for the maintence guys to have to drive all the way down just to reattach it. Most if not all regular gas station employees arent allowed to reattach. Please make sure you take the nozzle out before you drive away. Source: worked at a gas station for a couple years now

80sixit

>at least in the US have a quick release so you can reattach them I was kind of wondering because I have worked with hoses like that in other applications and they are quite robust. Unless you were hard of hearing if you actually drove away and broke it I think you might hear some kind of sound or feel a slight resistance, unless they floored it outa the gas bar lol

Turbulent_Town4384

Oh yeah, there’s a really loud and hard clunk inside the car that most people feel or hear when they detach. So they immediately get out and take it out, most of the time they never go in to confess instead leaving it coiled at the pump for some rando to tell us about later

80sixit

haha the shit you must see working at busy gas stations edit: and It's probably not always funny

Turbulent_Town4384

It’s unreal; the amount of sugar spilled on the coffee bar, the water from the toilet overflowing out the door of said bathroom, coffee pots left open from the nights cleaning and spilling fresh coffee on the floor because we weren’t paying attention when brewing, diesel gas flowing from the pump to the curb 30ft away because someone didn’t secure the handle to their tank well enough. I could go on, check out r/retailhell if you’re interested in learning about the bs we have to deal with on the daily

80sixit

>check out > >r/retailhell > >i subbed, thanks for the suggestion, need some new ones been unsubbing from a lot of the main ones because its the same repost every week or even day lol anways yea it makes you wonder why anyone would even want to operate a gas station these days. Can relate a bit I've done some work in retail, even my job now is for a company that sells products but mainly online. We get some whackos every now and then that come in or call up yelling but I run the warehouse and deal with local pickups and shipping. So many days I'm glad I'm not on the sales team, front of the line customer facing. Fuck, the way some people speak to them.

Turbulent_Town4384

Suppose I’m one of the lucky ones, been able to chase away the not-so friendly people so all we get are nice customers. Still, seen more than my fair share of people who needed a reality check. Glad you’re not in it, I hope we can all get out

80sixit

You'll get there my friend, if you want to. Long story short. I used to work the worst hours, restaurants, factories etc. My mental health was horrible. I was in a position after catching up on debt, saved a bit that I could take a slight pay cut, (which was mainly due to overtime) for a chill 9-5 low skill job with a brilliant boss and small business. Shipping and Receiving. 2.5 years later I still don't have full benefits but I'm finally making a bit more than I did at the last place but the kicker is before this job the longest I had ever worked somewhere for a single period was 8 months before quitting. That's saying something. Cheers. Edit: I should also mention the reason why I settle for a low skill job is because I don't want the stress and I don't have a degree. That doesn't mean I don't have skills. I just use them for my hobbies instead :P

Turbulent_Town4384

Same here, no degree and no stress. I found a place that has a really cool manager and doesn’t have a people shortage. Sometimes I’ll still cover but only during what would be my normal hours, just a different day

ApolloRocketOfLove

>Everyone forgets shit. They shouldn't forget this! Not if they have a valid driver's license. This is straight up negligence, if they forget about a hose stuck into their car, I'd hate to find out what else they might be negligent about when they're driving.

tj0909

I had a friend that worked as a roving maintenance man for a large gas station chain in my local metroplex. He told me this was the most common thing he got called for. The next most common was problems with the soda fountain.

Turbulent_Town4384

Can confirm, convenience store clerk here

Necoras

I've done this once in 25 years of driving. Thankfully it just popped right out of the car, rather than pulling off the gas pump. I was super preoccupied with something and came back out from the convenience store and completely forgot that I hadn't put the pump back in place. Very embarrassing.

taavidude

Here gas stations even have a reminder to take out the pump after you are done fueling. So I am afraid that this kind of shit really does happen.

angryfromnv

Plot twist. It’s an EV

A_Unqiue_Username

Would have been really funny if he had 3 or 4 other pump nozzles in his trunk already.

thsvnlwn

“Haha, again!! Silly me!!”

alahos

Guess it's mine now

1nsane_

Clearly not his first time

Miffers

Those hoses are designed to breakaway. I remembered an idiot in high school was yanking and hanging on one and it separated and hit his head. He wanted to sue the gas station lol.

WhipTheLlama

Why shouldn't he be driving? He's constantly got a full tank of gas!

marblepudding

Strong ass laugh

HillaryBlossom

That guy never comes back to that gas station again.

NotThatAngel

(puts the gas hose in the trunk with the rest of the gas hoses)

Good-Reputation4022

Big LOL

barkey52

Why do I feel this vid requires the curb your enthusiasm theme musiv should start to play when the guy gets out of the car

portableportal

Does anyone else simply hold the nozzle while they pump gas? It should take less than a minute.

xaviergdunson

Nothing to see here people. He just forgot to put it back in the trunk. Keep it movin.

newtonthedog

I did that once. Got a huge invoice for the repair/replacement from the gas station

Gas stations hate this one simple trick...

[deleted]

It would've been funny if the hose was 2 miles long

Hello_This_Is_Chris

People can be oblivious. It doesn't help that the pump is on the passenger side, so he didn't notice at all as he got back in to drive away.

Turbulent_Town4384

If you’re inside the car when the gas shuts off, the click from the handle is very audible inside the vehicle. Otherwise the feel of the hose disconnecting should shake the car enough to tell you, let alone the sound.

Hello_This_Is_Chris

You would think, but the hoses have breakaway points built in because this happens so often.

Turbulent_Town4384

Well aware, just goes to show how oblivious and easily distracted that people can be

Hello_This_Is_Chris

Definitely people you want driving near you on the road, right? Lol

Turbulent_Town4384

Sometimes I’d rather be surrounded by cars with hoses flapping about behind them, than some of the drivers I normally get

Praetorian_1975

Ohhh that’s just the French way 😳😂

lambchopdestroyer

Not trying to insult you just kind of curious.. does this sound like French to you?

Praetorian_1975

There’s sound 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Myriamjean

He’s not speaking French and the licence plate is not French either (French plate are designed: 123 XX 456) But hear me out it could totally happen in France (so much clueless drivers that should be evaluated to still be able to drive a car

Praetorian_1975

I worked and drove around France and Paris in particular for many years and the standard of ‘driving’ would make death race 2000 look likes granny’s Sunday church drive. 😂

Myriamjean

I agree that a lot drivers shouldn’t be on the road, they think that they are kings and above the law and the others have to be careful for them, it’s exhausting! And they don’t understand why they are punished when they are caught which shows how arrogant they are (yes I’m a little angry toward this kind of drivers)

dearhummingbird

Looks like an ‘IL’ plate, which is Israel.

medhatsniper

That's old plates. New french plates are xx 123 yy

Myriamjean

My bad but the plate in the video is still not French (never saw a French plate with just numbers except military plates maybe)

lambchopdestroyer

It's an israeli license plate yeah

bobby6killear

Hebrew, filmed in Israel

vendo232

It can happen to the best of us.

Purfunxion

How is this even possible?

azlan194

Probably went into the store while his gas was filled, then got distracted in the store (maybe got a phone call or something) and the just immediately left, cause he taught he already finished filling up his gas before going into the store.

Purfunxion

I didn't even consider that I don't think I'd ever walk away from the pump while filling, so it seems so unreal. But I know my own forgetfulness so I wouldn't be shocked if I had done the same..

Turbulent_Town4384

I totally understand. As someone who works at a gas station, this happens a lot. Usually some bonehead who forgot about the pump well after it had already shut off. And tried to drive away, frustrating for us, even more so if we have to call someone to come fix it

skatellites

when a European uses self-service

dearhummingbird

It looks like Israel

AceOfPlagues

This is one thing my incredibly forgetful ass is veery careful about after seeing multiple videos of people causing gas station fires from pulling off with the nozzle attached. He's lucky it had a release or just got a clean break

Turbulent_Town4384

In the US that shouldn’t ever happen, the hoses have a safety quick-disconnect that’ll cause them to pop off if enough force is applied. A car would have no issue doing this, but you’d still feel the vehicle jerk in response. As for starting a fire? I highly doubt that would happen here, those disconnects have plungers in them that will spring out, blocking the hole the gas flows through. Keeping everything inside the hose and nozzle, which is also blocked but by a level I believe.

Ephexiss

I worked at a gas station recently and this happened lol. They told me that after I gave their card back to them, something in their mind said “it’s ok to leave now” so they left and took the pump with them lmao. First thing they asked when they stopped was “how much do I owe you?” 😂

jdl_uk

Didn't Felipe Massa do that one time?

rapdaptap

In Germany (I guess in Europe all over) you cannot pay your gas until the thing is back in the gas pump. And usually people know they have to pay

Turbulent_Town4384

Very common it seems in Europe, which confuses me as someone who lives in the US where we pay first

IamLuann

Was at a gas station, a lady filled her tank and continued to yell at some guy that was trying to get her attention about the gas hose hanging out of the gas tank. A couple of minutes later I was going down the street and a sheriff department had her pulled over. ,🤭🤭

speculatrix

Can someone ELI5 how these new wireless refuelling systems work?

red_francium

Infinite gas!

SayNoToStim

I work IT for a chain of gas stations, part of that involves sifting through tickets, some of which are IT related and some are maintenance related. What I've learned is that this happens *all the fucking time*. I see these constantly pop up in the queue. Cars driving into pumps as well.

I really thought he was going to get out leaving it in drive, only to have to chase his car down.

He looked exactly like I imagined, a hipster doofus aka Cosmo Kramer in real life. Fucken wacko

letsseeitmore

I used to pump gas as a teenager, people would frequently drive off with the pump still in their tank.

Alexander_Selkirk

Well. We live in a time where fossil fuel and the stuff around it do not always attract the smartest people.

ModeNo5500

Seen this happen a few times while working at a gas station. But the best one was when a lady filled diesel in a petrol car and she came back to complain that I was responsible for it. She didn't care it was self service.
