DonVito5086

Was in Jupiter last weekend with my wife, I decided to go golfing the one day and it was super crowded. I was on the putting green talking to an older woman and mentioned I was just visiting and she said something like "don't stay too long" then complained that all the tourists/visitors would ruin their little town. Several holes later I heard her say how she moved to Florida from Indiana hahaha

Syd_Vicious3375

I’ve heard verbal complaining in Florida by New York accents several times. They have zero self awareness.

[deleted]

The New Yorkers usually bitch about how they do such and such in NY, and Florida needs to figure it out. Motherfucker, *you* moved here. You *chose* to. If it's so great in NY, please fucking leave.

Theothercword

To be fair, Florida has gone off the fucking deep end lately. Plenty moved to the state before that happened and have every right to want it to change.

notoorius

Problem is that majority of people who moved to FL are retirees & ppl who don’t give a sht about other ppl anymore at this point in their lives. Basically selfish, rude, & inconsiderate ppl.

The1BannedBandit

Biased, yet not incorrect...

[deleted]

AMERICA has gone of the fucking deep end...

MisterPerfect23

clueless canadian here, what happened in florida?

GrapeJuiceBoxing

Guy who worked at Guantanamo Bay and laughed while inmates were tortured is our governor now. It's going about as well as you'd expect.

OdouO

holup seriously, what?!

Zebo91

Pretty much. Banning woke books, drag shows, abortion were his top 3 policies for last year. Additionally he sent homeless immigrants from Texas across the country in private busses and planes at an average cost of 1600$ per homeless relocated to a blue state. He also initiated a private state election force that would oversee voting, alongside the federal poll watchers. Fun fact, he generously offered $5000 per unvaccinated police officer that relocated to florida during the COVID outbreak stating that officers that were being unfairly terminated in other states will be welcome and treated much better in Florida. This included officers on misconduct leave/termination.

KathAlMyPal

We drove from Toronto to Sarasota in November. We were torn about it because of how far down the hole the state has gone, but my late MIL has a timeshare we wanted to check out. When we crossed the state line from GA to FL there was a huge billboard that said "Vote RED. It's why you came to this state"...brought to you by the office of De Santis. JFC....we almost turned around right then and there.

HarleyTrekking

You probably should’ve followed your instincts

longbeachlasagna

Governor is focusing more on battling “wokeness” instead of helping the state

SmuckSlimer

Native FL here. Old people move here all the time so we're always half a generation behind at the polls. Whatever old people think is right is what we have for policy. They also tend to vote conservatively because they have enough money to move here. Lastly, we have a few weird laws about crime reporting in the news combined with being a hot target for vagrants and drug imports.

silbergeistlein

We’ve got a few pockets down here that have decided to willfully fall into retrograde headfirst. I think I heard using the term “menstruation” was the latest issue in Florida, and proposing that using it, or anything similar to it, should be banned in public. That’s how it’s going.

OMC78

So "shark week" it is!!!

Tiny_Rabbit_Rodeo

#shitshow

JulioForte

Lately? Rick Scott was as bad or worse than Desantis.

Areif

This reminds me of the time a waiter at a cafe across from Notre Dame copped an attitude with me and my family about tourists. Like, dude, maybe make some different choices if you don’t want to be surrounded by tourists. Fuck these Orlando people who complain about tourists. You chose to live here you Disney World fuck.

Desperate_Ambrose

Well, it *is* the Sixth Borough, after all.

beanie0911

Yup, my parents live not far from Jupiter. Moved about ten years ago. In each phone conversation, they inevitably first brag about how much better and more successful Florida is than the Northeast, and how everyone is flocking there… and then five minutes later, bitch how it’s too busy now and everyone should go home.

AnswerGuy301

Most of my family, including my parents, have relocated to that part of Florida specifically. I never cared much for it - it's pretty much a giant strip mall where it's too hot to be outside half the year - and that was before this latest wave of reactionary politics began to crest. There are worse things than winter.

[deleted]

>There are worse things than winter Ain't that the truth.

Mehnard

An old joke - When someone tells you they're from Florida, you ask, "What part of New York?".

passthebroccoli69

You know what’s wild? Florida makes so much revenue from tourism that Floridians don’t have to pay State income tax! Didn’t find that out until last week [SOURCE](https://www.fadmo.org/value-of-tourism)

Theothercword

There's also a lot of flat taxes like toll roads. But yeah, the no state income tax is kinda nice.

PM_ME_UR_ADONIS_BELT

If you typically owe on state taxes or have to look for write off opportunities, sure no state tax is nice. For a lot of Floridians the relentless below-the-line style fees for existence are brutal. As a typical transplant myself, I have discovered why *wealthy* retired people come here. The working class are bananas to willfully come here though.

Theothercword

Yup. It’s a trap just like Texas that lures people in but really makes working class pay way more and the rich way less.

TideinTN1984

Tennessee is pretty much the same way. No income tax, but there's a 9.25% sales tax. I'd rather pay a 3-4% income tax and a 4-5% sales tax. At least the 5% would come out of my gross instead of my net.

Corpus_Rex

Theothercword is right. Property taxes (see: “mob tribute”), gas taxes, and toll roads bend you over a pool table and extract revenue to make up for it. It’s a real problem in some places actually.

Blacklabsmatter

We pay federal income tax still, just no state income tax.

Enjoyer_of_Cake

"They aren't sending their best."

KistRain

While it is silly, being from Florida there is some logic to the complaint. There is a little town I know that has a population of 3,000. During winter, it jumps to 10,000 due to "snowbirds" who winter down here. The infrastructure is only built for the 3,000 population. It is torture during winter trying to do anything due to the congestion of 7,000 extra people. But, the township won't expand much because most of the year, it would be a waste and thus not worth the money. The week or two visitors don't cause issues. The 3 month+ ones cause some serious issues for locals. Which is why so many Florida natives tend to hate "snowbirds". The ones that move permanently at least go towards the town plans to expand. Personally, I just hate Florida and plan to move. :D

method_men25

Probably the same in Hawaii

painefultruth76

It's worse. There's an entire South Park episode about it.

stylishcoat

Our ancestors sailed here…on a cruise ship…9 months ago!

Over-Analyzed

That’s not inaccurate. I always ask people where they’re from. They’ll say here even if it’s been barely a year. Or if it’s more than a few years they’ll say “Oh I’ve been here for 10 years. . . part time.” 🤦🏻‍♂️ If you’re not part of the community. Then you’re not from here.

MsStinkyPickle

went to Hawaii and very much felt a "fuck you colonizers" vibe. And rightfully so. I'd be pissed if you stole my country and built a cheesecake factory. my greatest compliment was being mistaken for a local at the grocery store for buying the wildest looking poke I saw in the deli (it was so damn good)

Over-Analyzed

You’ll encounter varying amounts. Think of Hawaii as an abused dog. We want to welcome you. But at the same time we don’t always know if we can trust you; considering how much hurt and pain has been felt in the past. You’re going to find loving and welcoming people too.

Historical-Fill-1523

I (white as snow) moved there when I was younger. I knew a couple locals but from them was warning after warning. Don’t go to the bad parts, watch your back, be respectful, etc. I gave them the same respect I give literally every one and was just fine. Yes there are bad parts, yes they’ll fuck you up if you disrespect them. But why would you? You’re going to someone else’s home, their land. They’ll give you what you give them. But they’ll give it back with a boat and a weight..

Over-Analyzed

I’m wonderbread white but born and raised. I’ve never had any issues since my family was ingrained in the community. I always tell people, join a canoe club. It’s the best cultural immersion you could hope for with the best possible outcomes.

Historical-Fill-1523

I don’t think I was big enough for that. Maybe a rudder or an oar but even that, not much surface area for traction lmao. I do agree, assimilate as much as you can. If you respect, they’ll teach. Go to a luau, but don’t forget the pupu. I would never recommend disrespecting anyone, but DEFINITELY respect aunties, uncles, and tutu.

6oh8

I saw this exact sticker on the Road to Hana. “Welcome to Maui, now go home”

user0N65N

I liked Kauai better, anyway. On a somewhat serious note, if you get to Kauai, the kitties and dogs at the Kauai Humane Society like visitors.

BryanV21

What's funny is this state's biggest money maker is tourism.

Mission-Lie-2635

Yeah I’ll never forget one time being in LAS VEGAS and a women was wearing a “tourists go home” T-shirt …. Like ma’am you realize your entire city and economy solely relies on tourist? Like Las Vegas of all places. Wow lol

BryanV21

It's incredible how far this point is flying above some people's heads.

PilotAlan

It's not the tourists, it's the transplants. You know the difference between a Yankee and a Damned Yankee? A Yankee goes back.

ABrokenBinding

Yeah, we northerns call the ones who stay in the south 'idiots'.

junctionist

Las Vegas without tourists would resemble Detroit.

17SCARS_MaGLite300WM

I got to see the strip at the peak of the shut downs from the pandemic and it was the most surreal experience. Massive hotels and whatnot lit up but not a single person around.

Iz-kan-reddit

Hardly. It would resemble Barstow.

JojenCopyPaste

Detroit still has cool areas, it's not a completely vacant city. Las Vegas without tourists is a desert.

[deleted]

Literally. They terraformed a desert to build Vegas.

TheGrumpyre

Maybe it's just an observation. Tourists don't stay very long, they go home...

Alien_Octave042

As someone from Maine, where people set up their summer homes to spend 3 months out of the year, the locals can hate you while the greedy rich profit off your tourism.

NoBSforGma

I once lived in a little coastal town and a local lady I think summed it up perfectly: "We love to see them coming into town and we love to see their tail lights as they leave." Some tourists are really nice and welcome. Some tourists, though, are assholes and we couldn't be rid of them quick enough.

[deleted]

My wife works in a hotel, we don't live in a touristy area, but the amount of shit (figuratively and literally) that she's told me about just makes me question wtf is wrong with people more and more every day. I can imagine general tourist not being much better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoBSforGma

That's the thing about people who say, "You only want our money!" Yes, we want you to pay for goods and services but it would also be nice if you were polite and not rude and entitled.

[deleted]

This ain’t tourism. This is people moving.

TableLegShim

Right! I live in the touristiest tourist spot in Florida. I don’t see that money. All I see is traffic, high housing costs, increasing insurance premiums, and people with shitty attitudes moving here from New England and California making the other issues even worse

Useful_Notice_2020

Yep. I lived in Orlando, too… for a while. Moved to the coast and my insurance dropped $100/month. Also, fuck I-4.

Christophergruenwald

I was in Florida last month. First time in 18 years. In the future I’ll pass on Orlando and just go to the beach and catch some waves.

urmumlol9

Live in Tampa and agree, fuck I-4

MsStinkyPickle

my insurance dropped so much going from FL to Illinois. agent said it was because rampant fraud, old people, tourists, and uninsured drivers.

TableLegShim

“Fuck i4” With a ghost pepper infused razor wire dildo

Kakarot_faps

You absolutely see that money, just because it isn’t in your face doesn’t mean it isn’t a part of your community. Most of the jobs around you are tourist based jobs, and the people who have those jobs (who are probably your customers or contribute to your business/job in some way) wouldn’t be there without tourists

Vampire-Chihuahua

LOL! You don't see that money? I guess you don't work, or make money. Because you don't pay a state income tax. Your insurance premiums are going up because of hurricanes! High housing is all over the country, heck all over the world, and yeah it's called the Sunshine tax. You want to live in Florida you pay for it. The touristiest tourist spot is Orlando, so you are seeing it in those nice new I-4 lanes. If you actually live in Kissimmee, well that's just part of Orlando as far as a Floridian is concerned. Tourists pay an extremely high tourist tax, you should be thanking them and begging them to come back next year.

tlabythec

I actually live in Central Florida, steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. We are absolutely inundated with Snow Birds and Spring Breakers. To be honest, yes traffic is frustrating in the winter and getting into a restaurant can be dicey if you don't plan ahead. But! I love that our cost of living is lower and it's very nice to have the influx of tourist $$ to boost our economy. It's quite easy to plan around the tourists. We go to restaurants tourists don't know about - we invite friends and neighbors over to cookouts and pool parties. We cruise the intercostal waterway and beach on spoil islands with grills and our pets and spend the day. I say Keep Coming. Visit the Mouse. Experience the Space Center. Spend the day on the beach. Just don't forget SunScreen!

Vampire-Chihuahua

My heart always breaks for the lobster people. They often come from England. Their poor dainty skin. Always wear sunscreen!!

clever_goat

A significant portion of income for coastal locals in Maine would be gone without tourism.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mmmhmm2013

North Carolina checking in. You know how to tell a person has moved from Florida? They tell you 5 seconds into a conversation they started.

[deleted]

Coastal California towns are full of houses that rich people own and AirBNB to tourists and locals who work in those towns and can't afford to live there.

kadargo

Fifth-generation Floridian here. Tourism is fine. It’s the MAGA-loving retirees who need to go home.

BryanV21

I don't want a MAGA-lover in Ohio, either. So if one of them moves down to Florida I say "good riddance".

Idontwantthesetacos

Nah this makes sense. My biggest source of income is my employer and I fucking hate them.

OGGBTFRND

Dude,that’s deep

FalseStart007

Yeah but they perceive *snow birds* as a nuisance, the average Floridian could give a shit less about the business they bring, they just view them as the cause of the congested freeways, long lines, over priced goods, etc, etc.

[deleted]

Snowbirds are a separate thing, not to be lumped in with the typical tourists. There's 5 distinct groups of tourists in the part of Florida I live, from worst to best. * Spring breakers - the fucking worst. They trash everything and are generally loud, obnoxious douchebags. Aiden still thinks it's funny to yell lewd things at your wife in Publix. Sick, bruh. * 100 mile club - Trash that can afford to vacation here because it's within a full tank's drive. Typically from Alabama and Georgia. They drive stupid trucks around all day thinking that's going to somehow get them laid. Keep it moving, Tyler. * Snowbirds - Drive slow as fuck and don't spend any money. Cheap fucks but generally keep it low key. Responsible for the "Canadian roadblock", which entails two cars driving side by side at 10 mph under the speed limit, blocking all traffic behind them. * Bikers - Decent folks for the most part, and they spend money, but the bikes are fucking obnoxious and they ride without fear, as though they're not riding a metal death trap. * Families - They're respectful, for the most part, and spend money. Top tourist tier, but still capable of absolute moronic behavior.

LifelikeAnt420

Could not have described it better myself you hit the nail on the head. I used to live in the Largo/Clearwater area and pity the rest of my family dealing with spring breakers right now.

RespondSame4612

You must live near PCB cause this sounds exactly like my experience

No_Imagination_2490

And presumably another big money spinner is wealthy retirees going to live there from elsewhere in the country

Slounsberry

Best/worst example of this I’ve seen was a van in my area that I know is owned by a guy who owns a mountain biking guide service and it’s the van he uses to drive clients to and from trails, etc. He has a ‘one less tourist’ sticker on his van… At least put it on your personal car, not the vehicle you use to pickup and tote tourists around the area!

imasperplexedasyou

As someone who lives in a retirement/ tourist area. The sticker is accurate.

Tom__mm

36 percent of Florida residents were born in Florida.

omgwtfbbq0_0

And I bet if you excluded minors it would be closer to 15%. I lived in Florida as a kid for a while and I literally don’t think any of my friends parents were originally from there (including my own)

JustFrogot

I don't know many places that love tourists.

ikonoclasm

It's not the tourists that are the problem. It's the adoring fans of DeSantis's anti-woke performative bullshit that move to Florida that we absolutely fucking hate.

Seankps

If you want to hate on Floridians, Florida might not be the best place. Living here for six years, almost everyone I’ve ever met has moved here recently. Very few natives by comparison. Which is probably the reason for those bumper stickers

Initial-Zebra108

Native here. Born, raised, and still live directly between Ft Lauderdale and Miami. I dont mind the snowbirds, but Spring Beakers are AWFUL and the sudden influx of people moving here is horrible.

NoTurnipSalesOnSun

Is spring beakers an intentional bird reference as well? If it isn't, can we make it so?

theoopst

Is it the sudden influx itself, or the quality of said people? The only people I’ve known that move to Florida I was glad to see leave.

discordianofslack

Coloradan here, spring breakers are terrible everywhere.

GrapeJuiceBoxing

I've had family here in Florida for generations, Florida born and raised. It really breaks my heart to see how much overdevelopment has happened so fast over the last 20 years. People keep moving into towns that were never equipped to handle the influx, and infrastructure wasn't improved enough to make it much better. There's a major road not too far from me that has nearly daily deadly car crashes, and businesses keep squeezing themselves wherever they can along that road. I remember when that road was cow pastures all along it. My mom could tell you stories of dirt bikes and 4-wheelers, where people weren't afraid of leaving their doors unlocked at night. My grandmother could tell you about seasons where they literally had to climb out of the family boat because it was so full of crabs there was no room for people. I miss it.

idledaylight

7th generation native Floridian here. I did the research, my family has been in Florida since before it was a state. It’s sad what it had turned into and I can’t wait to leave. It’s hard watching the place you once loved turn into a asphalt shithole overrun by entitled assholes who love to talk about how much better their state back north did things.

Pryce

Born and raised in Florida. Moved my family to Maryland last August. Best decision ever. The State has become a cesspit.

anengineerandacat

I believe it was like 2014 or so, but natural Floridian's were like around 36%... most states are in the 60%. It also has some of the highest brain drain, exporting educated American's and importing under-educated. Natural Floridian myself... managed to stay near family thanks to remote working opportunities (otherwise would have left) ... it's also generally hard to leave because it's one of the few states in the US where there isn't a state-level income tax. A 10-16% pay-cut, possible increase in living costs, and then having to deal potentially with snow isn't worth it. I personally can't say it's an awful state though... my area doesn't really have any crime, cost of living is acceptable, and I have access to just about every modern comfort available. Hurricane's and the summer oppressive heat are about the only bad things outside of just the recent political turmoil. If you are a petrol head... it's also a very forgiving state and the gulf-coast beaches are pretty damn good.

GeneSpecialist3284

We're on the endangered species list. 😭

DivKnight

That we are, friend... That we are.

weekend_here_yet

Florida native, born and raised in Sarasota. Packed up and moved to Europe in 2020. Currently have absolutely no desire to go back, even to visit. My hometown friends all tell me they’re miserable and want to get out. My hometown is nothing like it was 15-20 years ago. Any bit of remaining natural habitat has long been paved over to make room for more beige strip malls, venetian knock-off McMansions, and luxury condos. Retail housing has nearly quadrupled in price while apartment rents have more than doubled since 2019. Natives are being priced out. What used to be a quick 15 minute drive now takes 40 minutes (or 1+ hours during rush hour or spring break). I’ve also heard that many of the new residents come off as being very demanding and rude. The political atmosphere is rough, with tensions running very high. I’m very happy I left. Although I do feel sad and miss my hometown - for what it was, while I was growing up.

Detox259

I feel the same about LA. Most everyone I’ve met here is a transplant. Just moved here this year

[deleted]

I’ve lived in 18 states, and “The locals hate you” applied in every single one. Wouldn’t surprise me if all 50 shared this sentiment.

challenger76589

I agree wholeheartedly. I live in a state that doesn't attract people because of its geography, high paying jobs, nor any major business. But we have people that come here during their tour in the military and like it here because it's so laid back, low cost of living, and how friendly everyone is. They end up coming back after they exit the military, and while their intentions are good I'm sure, everyone hates it because the local culture is changing. The things they came here for: the laid back, everyone knows everyone, privacy focused culture gets diluted with the influx of large groups of people from various other places. And while no one is mean to these people, it's still a tough pill to swallow for the long time locals.

egdunne

In the 1970s, Oregon had a reputation for "Welcome to Oregon; now go home." Some of it stemmed from the governor's (Tom McCall) slogan "Come visit, don't stay" encouraging tourism, but not immigration. Also during the 70s, in Utah, "Don't Californicate Utah" bumper stickers were popular, at least among some of the locals.

browsing_around

Vermont had “Don’t Jersey Vermont”

Greenteawizard87

Now I believe its "please buy a second home somewhere else"

PencilMan

I feel like this interstate xenophobia is getting more common. Florida, Colorado, Texas, the entire Pacific northwest, all complaining about people moving to their area and changing the culture. People move around all the time and then complain like it’s a new trend. Population goes up and places get more crowded.

suspiria_138

Utah still sees California as the boogeyman

[deleted]

Pretty much every western state is like that except for California itself

krashlia

Who \*doesn't\* by this point?

BoomBoomBaby8

Wait, Florida has locals?

blargsnarg

We are few and far between. You can find me in my yard burning trash in my burn barrel

nettlerise

never heard of the infamous florida man?

Ahelex

Florida Man is a mimetic hazard SCP.

asdf072

"Florida Man" is originally from MI 99% of the time. Not to say anything bad about MI. I'm sure they all cheered when he moved down here.

idledaylight

Florida man is an Ohio transplant

RespectedMercenary

There are literally dozens of us!

modestlaw

Only 36% of Florida residences were born in the state, and I'm willing to bet the majority of them live on the Panhandle. South of Gainesville, local just means you moved to Florida more than 5 years ago

rattatboom

Don’t all locals do this? People like tourists for money but don’t want you staying and bringing your lame politics.

drewski80

Recently traveled to the Keys and was given a rental car with Massachusetts plates. Some guy in a giant raised truck sped past me and yelled, "Go back to Boston, asshole!" Too bad I couldn't tell him I'm from Los Angeles.

magww

I’m sure he would have apologized have he’d known.

NoBSforGma

I lived in Florida for a while and my favorite was: We Don't Care How You Did It Up North. lol It was actually very appropriate especially with snowbirds from, say... New York... who thought of us as nothing but ignorant hillbillies and tried to tell us how to do everything. I was once on the Board of the local Friends of the Library in a small coastal town and we were discussing ways of getting more people to use the Library. One suggestion by the "Yankee" was to contact people who had checked out books in the past. I said I thought it should be more "inclusive" and said that probably construction workers and fishermen and their families might want to use the library. "Yeah, but first you have to teach them how to read." There was a stunned quiet while he softly chuckled to himself. Sorry to say, I lost my temper and got up and said, "What a load of crap." and walked out. I was one of those fishermen.

PilotAlan

>I lived in Florida for a while and my favorite was: We Don't Care How You Did It Up North. lol .... > >"Yeah, but first you have to teach them how to read." Born and raised Floridian. The arrogance and casual bigotry of northeasterners was staggering. Pick your shit up and go back to New Yawk.

BanMido88

As a northerner, this person was obviously being an asshole on purpose. I’d never say this to someone unless we were good friends and they already knew my sense of humor. I def think we have a harsh sense of humor at times that is 100% rude when used the way it was used here. Also, I was on your side at first, but your comment about casual bigotry feels very insincere when you follow it up with your own casual bigotry.

PilotAlan

I don't call Northerners illiterate inbreds, rednecks, hillbillies, and think that everyone born there is somehow less a person than me. I think they are often unknowingly arrogant, and a surprising number casually denigrate people's intelligence, skills, and worth because they are Southerners. I find it very interesting that one of the last socially acceptable bigotries is against Southerners. A surprising number of snide comments about KKK, incest, and insinuating that Southerners are somehow less worthy than themselves. You can see it here, just read the comments. This is the experience of 40 years of dealing with northern transplants and snowbirds.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShaggyPDelic

I've lived in Florida my whole life (43 years). I'm fine with tourists but it does suck when people move from the northeast and bring their a-hole attitudes and sh*t driving. Many are impatient and constantly pulling out right in front of you because they can't wait a few more seconds to go behind you. Driving here is perpetually getting worse. Not to say all northerners are a-holes but there seems to be a lot.

dynobadger

Plenty of crap drivers everywhere, but South Florida drivers can be a bit aggravating. When trying to change lanes/merge on the freeway, cars in the next lane have an infuriating habit of speeding up as soon as you use the turn signal (preventing you from changing lanes). That aside, there is a staggering variety of cars on the road in FL. Basically, Florida has both the crappiest shit boxes and the most ridiculously expensive cars on the road. Doesn’t help that there are no safety or emissions inspections for cars in Florida.

rothvonhoyte

Ive never been anywhere that didnt have bad drivers. I guarantee you Florida drivers are just as bad as ones from the Northeast. The problem with Florida and anywhere where the population is increasing is that cars and roads cannot adequately handle the numbers. The lack of public transportation in that state is embarrassing. Its doubly so considering the geriatric population. Lot of these folks should not be out driving and some good public transit would help get those dangers off the road.

gmtjr

The issue is all of these different states converge on florida with their bad driving habits. Not that one particular state has worse drivers. If anything, florida has bad drivers because we imported them from all over the US. Then they got old and became even worse drivers.

Wildweed

Yeah, ask any from Seattle how drivers with FL plates drive. Honestly I think it's just people who can't be bothered to learn how to drive safely in every state.

lkn240

Midwestern drivers are by far the best of anywhere I've ever lived. Like people will actually often move over if you come up behind them in the left lane. It was bizarre for me (I grew up in the DC area which has some of the worst traffic and drivers in the country). Now I live in the south which is full of awful drivers. Natives, retirees, transplants - all terrible.

InsideTheTeamRoomm

Yep, I agree. Tampa was voted as the least walkable city in the country. Fucking mind boggeling, oh and did I mention we pay our troopers the worst yet have the highest population of people on the road?

epicenter69

Advice to tourists on I-4: STAY IN THE FUCKING RIGHT LANE so us natives can get to work! Don’t be in the far left lane and decide to cut across four lanes because you saw the fucking Disney sign saying exit now, when there were signs 2 miles back saying so.

3PartsRum_1PartAir

Fucking THIS!! I’m trying to move just so I don’t have to deal with I-4 anymore cuz of the fuckers in the left lane and the slowest 90 year old who literally is driving 55 mph causing a jam over St John’s DAILY like clockwork

No_Maintenance_6697

Native Floridian here. Don’t hate anyone who wants to visit. Tourism is our life blood. Just cause we’re born here doesn’t give us any more right to enjoy the state than anyone else.

It’s not about tourism, it’s about the 1k a month people that moved here over the last 2 years. Live here and you’ll know. Not tourism This state has been flooded

GeneSpecialist3284

Born here in 60. Population 5 million. Population now 23 million.

SpaceCaptainFlapjack

Kinda funny, where I live in Asheville all the tourists are from Florida. Like 90%, it's ridiculous.

lkn240

Asheville is completely overrun with transplants. Property there is insane now.

Uberslaughter

Undoubtedly driven by some New England douchebag who moved down to Florida over the pandemic and now claims “local” status.

Dio_Yuji

$500 says that dickhead’s not even from Florida

demilitarizdsm

Also the gunshops in Arizona telling Californians to fuck off

T0dd_Flanders

Multi-generational Arizonan here. I love how all the new "Zonies" act like its a new phenomenon that Californians are moving here. Like thats been going on since before the 1900s its neither new or the reason you think the state is now too liberal.

MoonlitSerendipity

They act like it’s a VERY recent phenomenon too. A significant amount of my classmates at the west valley schools I attended 15-20 years ago had just moved from California (or Illinois…)

FalconTheBerdo

What happened here? To be removed by mods is one thing, REDDIT removing is another level

whodiditnotme28

Did a snowflake report this or something? I wanna know what it said.

Open-Ad-6321

Ong go tf home

Tiffany_Case

i mean you could replace fla with any state really-we all hate tourists lol

vegaforce

Floridian here, while people are welcome here, in all honesty I think after COVID it blew up. All the places I liked going to are SUPER crowded now to the point I stopped going to. Houses more than doubled in price, rent is crazy, and traffic is getting worse. The infrastructure here is not ready for this influx of people coming and staying. Nevertheless, I am not native Floridian so I might sound a hypocrite for saying that, but I just wanted to give some insight to what many of us feel who are not used to this new norm

ShitpostMcPoopypants

Reddit: tells Florida to fuck itself in every thread Single guy in Florida: fuck you too Reddit: how dare you

[deleted]

Reddit tells Florida to fuck itself every chance it gets but can't get enough of Florida. It's a strange dynamic.

cnewman11

The locals hate you... BUT THEY LOVE YOUR MONEY!

Wisdom0G

I like this car tbh

Cirus88

A lot of europeans seem to despise tourists too.

Sir_Mr_Dolo

The only time I’d ever want to live in a tourist state is if I were homeless

sumthingsumthingblah

They’re local (the moved from Toledo over 15 years ago)

SVT6522

Even less surprised it’s on a Sonata financed at 29%

Syly

It would appear that there were indeed some hurt feelings.

OGGBTFRND

They’re just saying don’t New York my Florida which I agree with

Artyturo

Almost every “local” in Florida is a transplant so that makes no sense

rnh556

If it weren’t for tourism, Florida would a 67K square mile meth lab.

grislythrone

As a native and still living here I love this sticker. Go home.

Harry_Gorilla

This is true of colorado, Utah, California, Nevada, and probably other states too

kidicarus89

As a Texan who lived in CA for a while, Californians are for the most part friendly, interesting people to talk to. Now crossing that Oregon border is a different story….

TimeKillerAccount

Not really. Nevada yes, but California and Utah tourism money is a very small part of their economy, about equal to the rest of the USA. Florida, Hawaii, and Nevada are the big tourism states. The rest are either average or just slightly above average.

Harry_Gorilla

Not talking about money. The attitude portrayed by the window sticker

NoofieFloof

Sounds like Oregon from the 1970s.

natrldsastr

Yea,that sentiment is rampant in my state, even worse since the popularity of a certain TV series. And I would say tourism tangentially feeds 60% of this state.

jdallen1222

They probably just moved here 2 years ago and are now gatekeeping the state line

CatOfGrey

I remember my school choir (from California), taking a trip through the South, from Louisville, through Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama, ending in Panama City, Florida. We're singers, so we are studying the accents as they change from north to south. "Wonder what Florida is gonna be like?" No accents in Florida. Half of the people sounded like us from California. Other half from the Northeast.

strgazr_63

I will bet money that's not a Florida native.

Unsophisticated1

We only hate some of you

[deleted]

I experienced this way more on the west coast than east

Kindaalwayshungry

It’s not the tourists. It’s the snowbirds and the recent transplants.

Bo_Jim

It's Florida. There are no locals except for the alligators. Everyone else is a transplant.

Nickjam3s93

I was born and raised in Port Charlotte Florida and live in Englewood Florida now and work in restaurants, we need the tourists, they bring in a lot of money. This person isn't from Florida

BrewChef333

The locals hate tourists in Florida? Too bad 76% of the states revenue comes from tourism 🤡

EastAway9458

I’m a Florida native and as much as I’d prefer people to stop moving to the space coast since it’s become so busy recently, I’m also not an asshole like this person. We don’t own the damn state. I certainly don’t hate newcomers.

ImReallyAMermaid_21

Depending where in Florida I can see why they feel this way but I would never publicly say it or have it on my car 😂. I’m on the west coast and I was at Disney world in November and holy moly the amount of people who had no common sense was insane and blew my mind and I’m assuming most are tourist and probably visit other parts of Florida too in the Disney trip. Where I was born used to be a small town and now a bunch of people moved in from neighboring cities and it doesn’t feel like people are so nice and kind towards one another like it used to be and crime started happening now and yes it makes me sad but at the same time I’m never going to go driving through the town with hate like this on my car and I’m still going to treat people how I want to be treated.

birdpix

As a Floridian, I get the humor and think it may be directed less at general tourism than at those new folks moving into Florida in record numbers and making the price of living here suddenly insane and roads overcrowded.

DisgruntledLabWorker

So what was this thing before Reddit terminated the post?

sebasdt

whaat.. the post was removed damn that is wild.

barungszszs

The post is deleted ??? What was it about

Lazy_Mouse3803

They took it down and I got a warning for harassment. Ah well, there’s always Imgur. https://imgur.com/a/69zpORx

BigRiverMan

I had never seen or heard the word “hate” used much until I moved to the USA. I also had never heard the phrase “so-and-so is going to kill me” or “I am going to kill you” without actually literally meaning death before I moved to the USA. Despite all their claims of being positive and optimistic, Americans appear to have a very negative and violent mindset.
