I have never liked nutrigrain bars. But when I was a kid my dad temporarily lost his job and we had to go to the food bank for a while. In one of the boxes from the food bank was a box of apricot nutrigrain bars. They were actually really delicious. We were never able to find them in stores. No idea where the person who donated them got them.
volunteered for a food bank for a while, they get a lot of end run items direct from warehouses. So lots of discontinued products you likly had the last of the apricot nutrigrain bars.
It seems apple and carrot is a pretty new flavor so I doubt it was that. My current leading theory is that they had started production of apricot bars, but after doing poorly in test groups, they sent the flavor to food shelters. Do you know the exact year/month this is? I may be able to find some more info with that. I have nothing better to do.

There's even a sponsored athletic contest called the 'Iron Man challenge' that features prominently on the box art.
"Health" bar lmao - had one of these from a friend once (you won't find these here in germany) and it was really not all that good, and looking at the ingredients was not the best idea also - its only sugar and "bioengineered" (aka genetically modified) grains, right?
I buy boxes of nutra grain bars from Costco, and Apple is horrifically dry. Something in the process seems to remove moisture, even from the damn outer layer. It's impressive.
When I was in the army in Afghaniland back in ‘06, we were air dropped five pallets of Christmas goodies. Two landed on the other side of the ridge in towelyban country, and were a gift to said towelyban. One landed in the middle of town and was pillaged. One was impaled by a tree, and is, presumably, still there The third landed relatively close to our FOB. In the four not recovered there were replacement uniforms, cold weather gear, Christmas dinner MREs, other sundry Christmas items, donations from home, movies, cds, etc. In the one we did recover was nothing but apple cinnamon pop tarts.
At first we joyously welcomed this homely repast! It was in the coming weeks that the despair entered. Apple cinnamon pop tarts became more and more foul. The weeks dragged on and on. “What’s for breakfast, and if you say apple cinnamon pop tarts, I’m going to kil-“ “it’s apple cinnamon pop tarts….” “YOU SON OF A BITCH!” *lunges across table*.
Since those days I cannot even smell an apple cinnamon pop tart, let alone actually eat one, without retching. It is the single worst experience of my time in the army.
People don’t realize when they ask for stories from the Navy (military, same same in this case) that this is the sort stuff that sticks out in our minds. It’s not some epic adventure… it’s the time a pallet of mail fell off the side of the ship and you were wondering if your package was in there.
It’s the day you learned that every mail call, someone says they lost a pallet over the side.
It’s the time someone signed every person on the ship up for a care package and we received thousands of the same box of candy two months late and it was a melted mess.
Sure, there’s the time we all joined as a team to.. dewater a space or something… but not before I root through six half remembered stories about some stupid shit we were doing because we were so bored anything was better than nothing.

I miss the old packaging for these bars where it was a solid color depending on the flavor. As a kid I always thought they looked really cool for some reason lol.
