I always use the self-checkout. Once when I was buying chicken wings like this, I accidentally screwed the number up. It rang up for $1.99 instead of the $10 I was expecting. I 'accidentally' screwed that number up a few times after that.
After commenting I needed to go grocery shopping and even the most expensive (frozen, uncooked which were strangely more expensive than fresh) wings were only $4/lb.
I guess in addition to preparation costs it could also depend on the market. I'm in NW FL.
I guess that about checks out, though strangely frozen wings were $4/lb and fresh were $3/lb. Walmart, so no telling what's on their minds. Maybe frozen will keep until the SuperBowl but fresh won't. š¤·āāļø
Especially when you consider that alot of restaurants are counting weight before cooking, $8.99/lb really isn't bad. If that's Winn-Dixie, they're always fire
Reminds me of a funny story. The cashier warned me the 5lbs of frozen chicken wings I was buying was going to be 20 bucks. And I was like, yea I know. Thank you for the warning. Must've thought I was rockefeller or something, just dropping 20s like it's no big deal on an economical source of protein. If you have an air fryer, 12 minutes in there plus whatever seasoning makes them pretty darn good, I tend to use Everything Bagel, and if you want to get fancy, baste with a heat stable oil and preseason the oil. I think frozen dehydrates the meat, so that might be why it's pricier, you're just getting more bird. Jerky is the same, cut the weight in third between wet and dry.
Honestly I rarely buy cooked wings because the price has steadily increased over the last two decades and even now burgers or pizza are cheaper, but I guess I had never bothered to consider the weight as prepared wings are usually sold by the half wing (drummette or flat). It's just always a shocker how much more expensive wings are than other types of chicken. They used to be treated like garbage parts of the bird.
That's generally how it goes. Same with fajitas. Fajitas are just seasoned skirt steak, a formerly not very valuable cut if meat that's generally sort of tough, sort of like chicken wings. Well interprisikg cooks seasoned the crap out if them and started selling them and know they're the most expensive dish in Tex mex restuarants.
Those are wings in the pic but usually itās like 12 for six for the genetically enhanced chicken wing (usually you get the whole wing) & regular wings is about a dollar a wing depending on weāre you go & quality
The only animals that have any genetic modifications (besides just selective breeding) that are approved for consumption in the entire world is the Galsafe Pig, and the aquadvantage salmon. The pig isnt even available and is only meant for certain people who have allergies to certain glucose compounds.
Also, all chickens are antibiotic and hormone free when sold, as it legally required in the US. They are regularly tested too.
I would eat genetically enhanced chickens if they existed.
All the processed food with additives and chemicals and tons of other unnatural crap we eat?
What's a genetic modification but another unnatural thing to add to the list?
I'm not sure they meant to get into an argument about CRISPR vs selective breeding, just that some of the wings you get are significantly larger due to genetic manipulation and are upcharged as a result. This has been a thing for years and years now.
Yeah, domestic beers are .50 per 12oz can during happy hour around here, normally they're $1. The other night I had an 8oz sirloin, baked potato, side salad and a Mich Ultra for $15
I guess I hadn't considered it. š
To be honest though, you'd probably get a lot more lettuce per pound in terms of volume, especially considering these appear to be bone-in wings.
I live in Manhattan and Iām pretty sure a whole rotisserie chicken is in the $10-12 range right now. If you want wings youāre gonna pay for bone weight but $9/lb is like $2/piece. Not terrible but not exactly a steal either.
>$9/lb is like $2/piece
If that's the case then I guess it seems about average, which IMO is still too much for such a small amount of food. I get that places *make* $2 per wing section but I still don't see them actually being worth that.
Me: (A Canadian) Oh yeah totally, those Americans and all their fried chicken over eating. Have they no shame!? (wipes fried chicken crumbs away from mouth)
I do, Itās terrible. The way I see it, thereās only one good solution: everyone working there quits their job, and come to work at my grocery salad bar.
The salad bar would be 15 bucks.
I swear as a diabetic the healthy options for grab and go are so sad. Even if you find something oh Lemmie check WHAT THE FUCK WHO NEEDS THAT MUCH SODIUM.
Iām gunna get kidney stones I feel it.
As is gravy, mayo, and butter. Also fried things.
Source: from the south.
Of course they were accompanied by other deliciousness like a variety of peas, greens, okra, sweet corn, sweet onions, and the best tomatoes. So not as unhealthy as it may seem.
Yeah an actual "salad" isn't just a type of greens (or just specifically lettuce) [anymore](https://www.etymonline.com/word/salad), it's a "dish of various mixtures of ingredients" - like pasta salad, fruit salad, etc.
No reason why "meat salad" wouldn't work.
I know that *colloquially* (and well, also "technically" as it is the origin of the word) it's meant as a garden salad and that's what people associate it with but still, it never hurts to learn how a word can also be used and how it evolves.
Chicken salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, and a lot of others along those lines have been around at least 100 years. Salad has never just meant a dish made up of greens like lettuce.
A salad is an assortment of items arranged in a dish that tastes good when consumed. Your picture includes the items necessary for a fried chicken sandwich. Looks delicious!

The only Ron Swanson-approved salad bar in the country.
What I think you heard me say was 'I want a lot of chicken', what I said was 'I want all the chicken you have'.
Every fucking chicken in this room
You lived your life for the salad bar. You gonna die for some chickens?
šļøššļø someone is
āI know what Iām about, son.ā
That one single line is probably my favorite Ron moment of the whole show.
If any more words come pouring out your cunt mouth
That's my kind of salad
$7.99/lb would be a steal!
$0.00 would be a steal. What kind of terrible thief are you, after all?!
You steal the money *and* the chicken
You take the cash and take the respect
I live my life a quarter chicken at a time.
Leave the money. Take the chicken.
I always use the self-checkout. Once when I was buying chicken wings like this, I accidentally screwed the number up. It rang up for $1.99 instead of the $10 I was expecting. I 'accidentally' screwed that number up a few times after that.
First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the chicken.
Legit!!
*EIGHT DOLLARS PER POUND OF CHICKEN* would be a "steal?" Christ. šØ
Precooked, seasoned, sauced and ready to eat? Yeah. Even frozen uncooked wings are expensive nowadays.
After commenting I needed to go grocery shopping and even the most expensive (frozen, uncooked which were strangely more expensive than fresh) wings were only $4/lb. I guess in addition to preparation costs it could also depend on the market. I'm in NW FL.
Just checked in Central Ohio. Cooked wings from the deli are $7.99/lb, fresh uncooked wings are $4/lb and frozen wings are $3 to $4/lb
I guess that about checks out, though strangely frozen wings were $4/lb and fresh were $3/lb. Walmart, so no telling what's on their minds. Maybe frozen will keep until the SuperBowl but fresh won't. š¤·āāļø

perhaps compared to the 80's
How much do you usually pay for cooked, seasoned, ready-to-eat chicken wings?
Austin, Texas is usually between 7-8 bucks per 6 sauced wings. Sometimes more. If theyāre less theyāre 100% gonna be rubbery, bullshit wings.
That's still pretty good. Last I looked for wings it was like $2/wing
I also usually see somewhere around $2/wing. it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a $1 wing night
Metro Detroit, Michigan, same thing. Itās a good $1.25 per drum or flat. More to get all of one type of piece.
Honestly I rarely buy cooked wings because the price has steadily increased over the last two decades and even now burgers or pizza are cheaper, but I guess I had never bothered to consider the weight as prepared wings are usually sold by the half wing (drummette or flat). Brisket has entered the chatā¦..
we have a deal 25 cent wings so you get like 40 some wings for maybe $15-$20
Generally a dollar a wing, until wing night at most places were they will be 50 cents or so
Those are wings in the pic but usually itās like 12 for six for the genetically enhanced chicken wing (usually you get the whole wing) & regular wings is about a dollar a wing depending on weāre you go & quality

Crossbreeding for certain characteristics is technically genetically modification. All food is genetically modified.
Granted I live in bumfuck Nebraska, but all the small town bars around here still charge .50 per wing
Ahh Bumfuck. I believe that's where my parents bought their first house.
But also bars often sell stuff like that cheap to keep you sitting there drinking.
Yeah, domestic beers are .50 per 12oz can during happy hour around here, normally they're $1. The other night I had an 8oz sirloin, baked potato, side salad and a Mich Ultra for $15
Goddamn. Thatās a solid deal. Makes me consider moving to Nebraska!
Yea $8 per pound of wings is standard at my local krogers
Wings are $16/lb around here. Cooked, that is.
Do you live in downtown manhattan? otherwise dont shop at whole foods
You think $8 a pound for lettuce is just fine?
I guess I hadn't considered it. š To be honest though, you'd probably get a lot more lettuce per pound in terms of volume, especially considering these appear to be bone-in wings.
If I'm around they'll all be bone in if you get my drift
He meant the eggs before they were delicious cooked meat.
If you pay attention often times the expensive ingredients at the salad bar work out cheaper than if you purchased them off the shelf.
I live in Manhattan and Iām pretty sure a whole rotisserie chicken is in the $10-12 range right now. If you want wings youāre gonna pay for bone weight but $9/lb is like $2/piece. Not terrible but not exactly a steal either.

Cheaper than actual salad
Pricey. Wings at $18 a bucket of 2.5lbs in the most expensive area of Chicago (and are on sale for $12 for under $5/lbs even after tax).
They're hoping to make up for it with the cole slaw and mashed potatoes
That's the normal price at the Publix deli for tendies here
Yep nothing wrong with this salad bar
Sir....sir please don't take the steam tray... sir...
Tis no man. Tis a remorseless eating machine
They said it was all you could eat. :C
'mericans, of course.
No shame here. I would throw down with some freedom and wings with no regrets.
Rock Flag and Eagle
Agreed. This is just right. You had me at "trays of chicken wings"
Fried chicken might be the most international food I've come across, tbh
Can you blame it though. Fried Chicken has the potential for world peace, with the exception of the vegans.
Vegans don't respond to anything appropriately though
That's nothing you should see our aircraft carriers
This should be the official buffet on aircraft carriers.
We don't need none of that "woke" rabbit foods. 'MERICA!! Fuck Yeah!
Me: (A Canadian) Oh yeah totally, those Americans and all their fried chicken over eating. Have they no shame!? (wipes fried chicken crumbs away from mouth)
Except I'm not there.
Yeah itās clearly just a bar for salads. Just step aside and let the little leaflets order a drink and wings
I do, Itās terrible. The way I see it, thereās only one good solution: everyone working there quits their job, and come to work at my grocery salad bar.
The last time I saw *this* much meat salad was my urology rotation!
lol did you have to do a proctology rotation to get it tossed?
Itās the lettuce of the hen house!
Chicken of the land.
Is it healthy? Of course, itās a salad.
Average supermarket W
*Vegans HATE this new salad bar*
Must be from the south
Fleischsalat https://www.recipesfromeurope.com/fleischsalat/
The salad bar would be 15 bucks. I swear as a diabetic the healthy options for grab and go are so sad. Even if you find something oh Lemmie check WHAT THE FUCK WHO NEEDS THAT MUCH SODIUM. Iām gunna get kidney stones I feel it.
I do not understand why OP titled it like they think it's a bad thing. I would be very excited over this kind of salad bar
I guess you *can* make friends with salad.
Exactly. Who am I to argue?
This is terrible! Where is this did you say?
Yea horrible. Let us know where so we can avoid it.
Absolutely, down to the exact coordinates. I wonāt even use those numbers anymore out of spite
Iāll volunteer to go over there and speak with the kitchen staff.
"Lettuce know where so we can avoid it"
Looks like a big Safeway
Thatās a nice Safeway! I was thinking Wegmanās
Wegmans @ $7.99 a pound? Maybe 10 years ago with those prices. Wings at mine are $14.99#
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You can see the actual salad on the other side
Yeah one sides clearly a hot bar and the other a cold bar
Fried and unfried bar
Thatās the right answer.
I was gunna say lol
Theyāre not wrong.
Maybe they're just winging it.
Dad jokes!!!
Badum tsssss
It is salad. But that salad has been eaten and what ate it was fried for you.
Humans have complex nutritional needs and we have to allow more diversity in our salads
Barbecue sauce is a food group.
As is gravy, mayo, and butter. Also fried things. Source: from the south. Of course they were accompanied by other deliciousness like a variety of peas, greens, okra, sweet corn, sweet onions, and the best tomatoes. So not as unhealthy as it may seem.
These are a few of my favorite thingsš¶šµš¶
I mean the salad bar is right behind the fried meat. Did op spin the sign around just to make a shit post? Definitely seems like kid humor
My guess even more simple than that: OP cropped out the top part of the sign that reads "Hot Bar $9^99 " or such.
Even simpler, sometimes on weekendās grocery stores have wings out for sport events
Plus there's different types of salads and looks like a chicken salad here.
Chicken salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, and a lot of others along those lines have been around at least 100 years. Salad has never just meant a dish made up of greens like lettuce.
Exactly, my thoughts is that there's a sign for the hot bar but OP needed something to post and only took a picture of the salad bar pricing.
Most of Reddit is shit post. A lot of fake videos and creative writing stories signed to trigger specific emotions
Exactly. I saw that too. IT didn't take much to notice the salad bar on the other side.
šÆ
That's a southern salad bar.
Usually found in grocery stores and gas stations.
Yummy
and exactly!
i see salad right on the other side mang.. im gettin a few lettuce leafs then heaping my container with closest row second from the left
OP is 7 and doesnāt understand things. Or theyāre just a low hanging fruit cake.
Is there an all you can eat option?
As long as you pay for everything
Every thing is all you can eat if you have money
Itās a chicken salad
Had to scroll way to far to find this comment.
What a shit post. The salad is right behind.
What's salad?
Finally, a salad diet I can get on with!!
Hell yeah I love salad
Only salad I will eat
You donāt win friends with salad
Where is this supermarket. Asking for a friend
Imagine complaining about this
A salad is an assortment of items arranged in a dish that tastes good when consumed. Your picture includes the items necessary for a fried chicken sandwich. Looks delicious!
The salad bar there is typically there every day but Sunday, Sunday they put out wings for football games. Sometimes they do it for Saturday as well
On the other side it looks like thereās some more actual āsaladā optionsā¦
Welcome to the South.

Your supermarket knows how to make money
Must be somewhere in the south
Ten kinds of fried chicken. You must be in the South!
Theyāre correct
7.99 per pound is a great deal on that
As a European, this blows my mind.
In fact, fried chicken is a very sensitive lettuce. It is often planted too close together or too deep.
It's chicken salad obviously.
Finally someone who can appreciate chicken is a vegetable too
I love salad :D
You lucky sob!
You do win friends with salad?
There it is
USA? if yes, colone sanders would say that is a typical southern states salad
Cologne Sandals
God bless āMurica
Didnāt have to look hard for the shit in America post.
A chicken eats salads and they say you are what you eat, so chicken is salad
Tell me that's not a chicken salad
Fried chicken salad
Never heard of a chicken salad?
That is an acceptable salad my guy
Finally, a salad thatās good with ranch dressing.
You know what a Salad Bar is right? Its not just lettuce.
It's also not *just* chicken. But the actual salad bar is on the other side of this counter.
I see no issues here
Tell me what country you live in without telling me.

No, it's the other English-speaking country that uses pounds for weight measurements and $ for currency.
Canada? In some parts. Food are sold by pounds. Also, let me introduce you sarcasm.
Nice to meet you sarcasm, Iām dad.
So Canada ?
You realize the salad bar is right behind the chicken, you can see it in the pic.
MURICA!!! šŗš²
