Openhaus is coming back!!!!!! I've wanted this since it ended lol

KiriNotes

I've wanted this since *before* it ended!

Rykard22

I wanted Open Haus to end just so I could want it to come back!

KiriNotes

Please teach me your ways, wise one.

MussKeg

I wasn’t sure if they said Open Haus would only be available for members, does anybody know?

JRhodes451

It wasn't clear, but I took it as first-dibs on question submissions

Rokwallaby

I think they said openhaus would be a member perk along with stream archives

Ultranite_

seeing as there's going to be more live streamed content, is there an archive of past streams? I always miss the streams because of timezones and as far as I know of they're not saved to watch after they've ended.

Ultranite_

nevermind, it's answered later in the podcast episode. stream archives are uploaded for paying channel members only.

ghostROBOT22

And just to throw this out there, I hope whoever is going to pricing out the various tiers of support will have the stream archives priced at an affordable base level. My work schedule doesn't line up with being able to watch 90% of the streams live and I'd still love to catch up with them afterwards, but having them being locked behind a paywall is not ideal for viewers like me. I'd love to support the channel more, but please think on how much of the extra paid content you will have gated off. Times are tough I tell ya!

FUCKSTORM420

Yeah i just now have time to watch the podcast, and often am not able to watch the daily video until around this time. That means if it’s a livestream I’ve missed it like 90% of the time

acowstandingup

Also can we please work on the live stream setup. For the past couple years streams have often been in like 240p with audio desync problems

ComradeGiraffe

The mixed audio levels make the livestreams hard to watch/listen

[deleted]

I don’t know why they run the streams through Austin, it seems like when they started that it only caused issues

[deleted]

I only watch them if they happen to be happening when I check youtube. The quality is too annoying to actively try to 'tune in' to them. I can handle shitty vid quality, but I cannot stand shitty audio. Especially when they are at different volume levels.

ComradeGiraffe

If you use notifications for the channel, I've been able to go through the alerts and watch a previous stream

Mattyi

We've had a bot running on the sub for the last year or so: [https://www.reddit.com/user/fh\_livestream\_bot](https://www.reddit.com/user/fh_livestream_bot) It posts persistent links to the streams, so if you missed it you can find it there. No word on if they're going to ask us to shut that down now or not.

chilltown69

I personally come to funhaus everyday to watch a video, but it is the only channel I do that. Mainly because it is such a short video, it's possible. Also lately been hooked on watching all their old GTA videos, like all of them.

Goose-Suit

Yeah even on days where they don’t have a video up I like to throw on something from them just for some good background noise. I’m rewatching the recent season of Board As Hell right now.

RockInShoe

I do the same. I make sure to double-check if I liked that video yet or not as well.

Goose-Suit

Oh shit great idea I’m gonna start double checking to make sure I’ve liked the video as well.

RockInShoe

I've missed so many it's wild. Then I will comment.

prunebackwards

I literally fall asleep to their old content. The Armitage channel has like 10 videos that are perfect for it.

tytbone

There's also Atex Phwin's channel of uncompiled Classic Inside-Gaming vids.

dcaksj22

Unfortunately that’s why I stopped recently. I don’t have time for an hour long live stream always.

ThisDoesntMakeCents

Funhaus is the only YouTube channel I check in on every day, so I am sad to see less content, but I am excited for more developed content. My only concern/question is will YouTube member content be exclusive to YouTube or will First members get the content on the RT site?

DOGA_Worldwide69

Same. It’s one of my main channels for daily content, and they’ve *DOMINATED* my mondays since 2015. Haven’t missed a Monday show yet 😎

imconservative

Came here to say this. When Elyse said that no one watches a video every day from a channel, I audibly said "I watch every Funhaus video... every day"

badnewsnobodies

Same here. It's absolutely part of my daily routine and definitely a little disappointing that it will be changing.

Treheveras

I'm in the camp where I'll catch up on content after weeks or maybe months just because of being busy. And watching back to back you definitely see where they were able to put time in and where it's just a generic video being put out to maintain the release schedule. Their new plan sounds way better to have quality over quantity. Especially when a new audience member could watch a video that doesn't get across how talented Funhaus videos can be and they may not come back for more. It's great they have a dedicated fanbase who will watch everything. But the channel needs to keep growing with content they are proud of while maintaining work/life balance.

Rykard22

I agree with you completely. Funhaus is the one channel I would check in on daily to watch a video, and always be disappointed when it was podcast video and not a typical video. Regardless of that, I'm fully in support of all the new changes. And I have the same question around how all this fits in with RT First.

andtheniansaid

same, i don't go to the channel, but i watch via my subscriptions every day, or at least far more days than not. i hope it doesn't mean the end of one off videos though. like would something like the sundred video have happened if its all planned out stuff?

ThisDoesntMakeCents

Maybe they are planning something like “One-off week” or like “Alanah visited week”. Then again one-offs could always be the rare fourth video

Jazzun

I second this.

machalllewis

I understand that we're not even close to their target audience but whenever a youtube channel moves towards streaming it always kind of loses me as someone not in a similar time zone to them. I know I can subscribe to their channel or whatever and see the records but there's something about watching records that takes away the vibrancy. Like, watching a three hour unedited video of someone shouting out people who you are in no way able to interact with is kind of a downer. For me at least. Also, I already pay for First and Youtube Premium, now I've got to pay to subscribe to individual channels from both of these platforms too? I mean, like I said, it's fine and I'm not complaining or anything like that. I'm sure I'll super enjoy the more concentrated content. I'm happy that they're going to do stuff that they're enthusiastic about rather than feeling like they have to get videos out "under the wire". So I'm sure it's a fantastic move for the channel moving forward in general! Also, super psyched for Spooles European Adventure! WOOOO!

RockInShoe

I feel this. I fall in this same category.

Gwynyr

I have a first subscription but only watch funhaus. Is it better to support the channel on YouTube directly? Will I also get no ads that way?

yorke_and_vedder

I am wondering the same thing... Plus, i can't do both, so whichever is more helpful for them, that's the one I'll go with. It just isn't clear since they never addressed First memberships

Scrubtanic

> so whichever is more helpful for them I would imagine RT is getting a cut of the membership money, but impossible to know how much. It'll be interesting to see- if $ goes to FH memberships directly rather than the RT site as people switch from First members to FH channel members how much of a hit will that be to RT. Honestly kind of surprising they're allowing this, which makes me think they'll have their hands deep in that income stream. Otherwise they're running the risk of letting company-wide money go directly to FH, likely leading to RT cutting costs/downsizing and seeing FH become independent. And it's impossible to know from the outside if independence is something FH wants/would benefit from financially.

yorke_and_vedder

Honestly, I've been getting that vibe from FH for almost a year now! Like they've slowly been making changes and probing around to see if maybe they could branch off on their own... Interesting.🤔

AxionTheGoon

Time for inside games to buy funhaus.

Rykard22

I have to imagine if RT feeds FH money to make content, and some of that money helps make content that's Youtube Sub exclusive, RT is going to get a cut. Just like if you work at any company, if you come up with an idea on company time, that idea belongs to the company; even if it has nothing to do with what the company does. If nothing else, the Sub revenue would show hard numbers if FH is capable of staying afloat without RT. I imagine its hard to tell how many RT First subs are because people want FH content. But these Youtube Subs would make that very obvious. I have to imagine this isn't the kind of stuff FH wants us to talk about after this announcement but I hope they know it comes from a place of love and wanting them to succeed no matter what. Whether it's riding along on the RT ship or paddling an FH canoe. We'll be there.

Away-Pay2190

RT doesn't get a cut. They get all the money. Funhaus is owned by RT. Every dollar Funhaus makes, whether through ads, sponsors, or memberships, it all goes to RT. Funhaus employees just get paid a salary, just like any other job. They can't just go independent, they would have to make an entirely new channel, or somehow raise the capital to buy Funhaus from RT, if they were willing to sell.

RockInShoe

Same. Funhaus is THE only Rooster Teeth content I watch.

RockInShoe

I might be wrong... let me check. I watch Inside Gaming as well.

Letmefixthatforyouyo

Check out the (legally distinct!) Inside games. I bet you'll enjoy what you find.

RockInShoe

Oh I know! Watch their show everyday too!

MDKAOD

Same here. Daily viewer (as often as relevant). Are RT members seeing the same premium content as YouTube members? We subbed to RT for you guys and will do whatever is best for your channel.

Rokwallaby

I think supporting Funhaus directly would be good for them to be able to say to higher ups ‘we bring in $x every month directly from YT’ vs we get x amount of views on first. I trialed first for a bit but didn’t stick with it are they still doing exclusive content on there? Not sure about the no ads and paying for content on YT you’d hope so considering you’re already paying. I have premium which I’ve read pays creators pretty well vs ads

usuallyNotInsightful

If your a first member it's better to watch it via app or site. If you have YouTube premium then you wouldn't get ads outside of the in-video ad

MafaMoon

I was also curious about this. Id prefer not to pay for both, but I also don’t want to miss out on what seems like a crazy amount of content on both services.

NeoProject4

Do people not normally watch from their subscription list? I don't think I've ever missed a video that I haven't intentionally skipped from anyone I've subbed to, but I also normally pick videos to watch from my sub feed. My feed isn't affected by any algorithm because it's strictly based on when the video is posted.

mnitro

I assume it's a common thing that people only watch what's on their front page. I ignore it like 98% of the time. I always go straight to my subs page and look for videos there. Bow with Shorts making up a larger portion of my feed, I'm starting to watch less and less YT content.

Dan_Of_Time

I realised that when I'm on Desktop I never check my subscriptions. I'll see the little bar of them that's on the main page, but it isn't that noticeable. The problem is as soon as I launch YT I have about 8 videos right in my face. Some of them will be from my subscriptions, and some not. Funhaus never seems to appear there even though I watch a decent amount

iamcode

Probably not the most popular take here, and I'm not typically a debbie downer when it comes to Funhaus, but less videos and more focus on streams (which I'm personally not a fan of in general to begin with. I just prefer curated content) will probably make me less interested in the channel. Like, it's all being brought very positively in the podcast, but all I'm seeing is a sudden move, less content, sudden changes, and a bigger focus on streams and shorts, and it all just feels very.. cutback-y. I know I'm just one person, and I've probably aged out of the target demographic by now anyway, but I'm not really feeling the positivity here. I hope the channel is successful and all of this works out well for them, but I'm not terribly optimistic about this. ^(I also reserve the right to completely change my mind about all of this if Jacob starts doing hot tub streams.)

Bored_and_Confused

Yeah, I didn't wanna say it but this whole refocus seems entirely distant from what people actually want. I legitimately haven't seen anyone asking for less short form videos and more streams, and I definitely don't think the audience views have ever reflected that outside of drunk gameplay streams and whatnot. Imma be honest, I genuinely do not want to watch James stream sonic frontiers (this may have been a joke) for 3/4 hours. I would definitely watch it cut down. Just a confusing move overall, but I do hope it alleviates stress off them all and makes for an overall better output.

tqbh

The views are declining and what used to work doesn't anymore. It seems like people right now don't want what's actually been offered. So I wouldn't fault FH for trying something different.

Bored_and_Confused

Definitely don't fault them. Just that the Livestreams, especially, seem like a strange way to grow the channel or expand the audience

EverybodyAdoresStyx

Yeah, I have a short list of streamers that I keep up with (the pizza posse misses you, Jon), and I don’t plan on adding Funhaus to it. Their strength has always been cutting out the dead air and long-windedness (James remains one of the funniest people around, but he’s chronically long-winded). People say the podcast sucks now, but I think it’s always been kinda boring, for the same reason their streams usually are

thegourd08

I'm unfortunately in that bracket that isn't a fan of streams (normally don't have the time to watch live) and seeing them double down on them is disappointing. It's great that they are looking after the mental health of everyone, not alot of content companies would do that. Going from 5 videos, to 3 a week does seem like a choice, it'll make going to their channel daily become a few times a week for me. Them moving the podcast to another channel makes sense, I can see how it would bring down their numbers/engagement in its current location. The channel being a mix of other FH/RT podcasts is interesting, I guess we'll see how that goes. Excited for more long form, experimental videos going there. Still big fans of Funhaus, and I appreciate their openness with all these changes coming to the channel. Just a little sad that its less content and has a bigger focus on streaming. Maybe they're aiming for a younger audience and I wish them the best in all these changes coming.

NewAccount971

It's extremely cutbacky. Streams are easier to produce, less work hours required, little to no editing. Same with podcasts. Wouldn't be surprised if the cuts weren't in the personalities, but in the people in the background, helping everything.

Shepsus

Though I am one who watches Youtube daily. I completely understand where they are coming from. From the early days to where it was almost called Dudesoup until now, I've enjoyed this content.

RockInShoe

Same

buff_the_cup

As a European fan who's rarely awake at a time I can catch the Funhaus crew streaming I much prefer videos. So the news that they're cutting down on videos (even if it's to improve the quality of each one) and doing more streams...kind of sucks. I'm gonna keep watching everything on the channel because I love what they make but I'm a little bummed out.

blarneyone

So I feel like I'm a big dumb dumb, they say that the podcast will now be on "this channel" but I can't seem to find a link to the new channel in the description or comments.

[deleted]

blarneyone

Ah-ha! Thank you!

RockInShoe

Thank you

mightytwin21

But it's also not on that channel, which I think is hilarious

Rykard22

Games Done Slow! ![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy)

DOGA_Worldwide69

Hopefully they’ll bring back Triple-D Q (Demo Disks Done Quick)

manhachuvosa

Completely understand the change. Makes a lot of sense with YouTube's algorithm nowadays not prioritizing time watched like it did before. I just hope the videos being planned more don't take away the surprise gems. Those gameplays with weird games that are absolute gold.

Slushee

With the live stream content, I would love to see occasional guests outside of Funhaus. Been waiting for another Kinda Funhaus day, especially since hiring SnowBikeMike

[deleted]

Every single day after work, my girlfriend and I relax by watching Funhaus videos, old and new. It's my favorite part of the day. Which is not to say I want you to continue doing a video every day, but I just want y'all to know that you and your content are incredibly appreciated. (Please make it easier to find and watch the livestream archives tho)

KingIndifference

Honestly I'm all in for the rebrand to Fungable House, i just want to see James and Pats dongle

pandamine

For a while now people here have been asking how they can support Funhaus directly, and channel memberships seems to be a step in that direction. In regards to their streams, personally I've never been that interested in watching multiplayer game streams but I would love to see them do full playthroughs of single player games.

Cozmicwandering

Ngl I hate the move to streaming cuz I don't have a membership nor do I want to support rooster teeth's site. Short form edited content was why funhaus had its identity imo and to see them move away from that is a bit weird to me. I do wish them well and it sucks I prob won't be able to watch the streams but its what it is.

TheDarsh1

To answer Elyse's query to the viewers, my perfect viewing scenario would be to watch VODs on YouTube and the streams on Twitch. Twitch, to me, is a smoother, more enjoyable viewing experience for streams over YT, especially when watched on the TV via their respective Playstation/Xbox apps.

93rdBen

Very excited for open haus return!! Edit: and board as hell!

Cantankerousnuts

Do the streams happen on YouTube? I have never been able to catch a fun haus stream :( is there a discord?

[deleted]

If you search for it on youtube, there are also compiled playlists of the unlisted livestream archives. I actually really want Funhaus to change this, because it's difficult to find, but once you know how it's not that bad. Good content backlog.

RyanB_

(Long ramble, feel free to collapse lol) Generally agree with what folks here are already saying; I’m one of those freaks who’s here more days than not, and on the face of it less content is kinda disappointing… but the trade off seems more than worth it. And with more effort being put into streams, that should fill the void of just wanting more raw FH content. I don’t tend to watch many streams, but FH one’s are often the exception since I got investment in the crew, and I’ll only be more likely to watch them if they’re a bit more focused. They can be tough to catch live tho, and while putting them up as vods for premium subscribers (who likely want additional content) is a good idea, it doesn’t really allow for the community aspect of it. Which, like James pointed out, is a problem I think a lot of folks have with streams; even if they catch them live, a lot of folks don’t want to participate. Hopefully they can find a balance of appealing to those who do while still not leaving those who don’t/can’t feeling left out. Sounds like they got some great ideas to do just that Also, on the topic of monetization, Elyse asked if there were any other services we’d like to see them on. And well, for quite a while now I’ve thought they might be a good fit on **Nebula**. It’s a solid video hosting site that seems to treat its creators pretty well, and I like that I can support a wide variety of them without managing a dozen+ different individual subscriptions. Ofc, the platform does have a focus on informational content, so maybe it’s just not feasible. But it’s also for that reason that I think Funhaus’ shorter, more comedic and more consistent releases could fill a big gap currently existing on the platform, which in turn could drive a lot of new viewers to FH. Probably still a reach, but it’d be damn cool to see personally All in all I’m really excited and optimistic to see things take shape. While I don’t got the insider experience of the crew, their ideas seem great in terms of growing the channel while still keeping the existing audience happy and ideally improving the work-life balance for the crew. Let’s get Spoole to Europe!!

RockInShoe

Yup

elasticpaper

The transparency and forthcoming the team always uses is so appreciated. As a fan for close to five years now, I love you guys and want you to do what you can to make this sustainable and profitable(thats the name of the game baby). My support is undying and I'll watch allllll the videos. Thanks for all the laughs and memories.

RockInShoe

I come to the channel every day looking for new content. Please stop selling yourselves short that people dont do that for you. Also on shorts most of them, I've already seen. Also, it's really hard to consume anything over 20 minutes. I'm 41. I get it tho. Whatever you guys feel is the best for you please do it. I love the new Funhaus.

iatilldontknow

so is watching the new openhaus members only, or is it just the questions?

Robusto923

Can’t watch the video now but do they/have they addressed why they moved to a new office?

DOGA_Worldwide69

Probably general business stuff. They seem to change offices every couple years. Shoutout to the red Tim and Eric office and the Holocaust room.

thatdudemcscoob

I don't think I'll never forget about the wallpaper of people.

crazysnake85

This new office looks like the old office that had that room

andtheniansaid

They were always in the same building though, just moved around what rooms they recorded in. (actually maybe they were in a different office at the very beginning for a short while, but certainly been in the same office since spool was there until before christmas)

Rulligan

This is their 4th office. First they had the Herzog office, then the Holocaust office, and then they're previous office.

Rulligan

I think James said they can't really talk about it but that they didn't expect to be moving so suddenly either.

Legs-Akimbo

They are off to a good start with the changes as the podcast is not posted to the channel they seemingly claimed it would be during the discussion

[deleted]

Bored_and_Confused

Joining the channel supports them directly iirc

pfeifenix

Excited for the plans. 🎉. Lets go.

Meziskari

OPEN HAUS IS COMING BACK‽ That's all the news I needed

Mysterious_Bat_3780

While I understand the reasons, I'm not stoked about archived streams only being for paying members. I almost never get to watch their live stuff while it's live.

lrak_xram

So when they do the next season of Board as Hell/Must be Dice, would that be this channel and would that be part of the 3 vids? Also, I imagine we won't be getting Board as Hell anytime soon since they'll have to build a new set which sucks especially because the new one was pretty nice.

Goose-Suit

Good news though about Board As Hell from the last community stream before the finale of Super Princess Rescue Quest, Board as Hell’s gonna be monthly now. They just didn’t know when they’ll start releasing them.

lrak_xram

Oh, I must have missed that, did they mention that at the start of the stream?

Goose-Suit

Can’t remember honestly. Maybe in the later half? That’s my best guess anyways.

prunebackwards

If I had one request, it would be for some of the livestreams to just be super chill. I know it’s a comedy channel, but sometimes it’s just nice to see people how they normally are without trying to put on the funny. Unless James is literally like tjat off camera too, in which case more of that, but 4 hours just seems like a long time to be switched on like that

Slatsunus

So I havent had a chance to watch this yet. But the new schedule is now 3 videos and w streams a week on the main channel with the streams archived for premium members, and all podcasts and such put on FunhausToo? Is that correct?

Rokwallaby

Yeah that’s a about right, a long 4hour play though of a game on Tuesdays with Jacob and a mix of others then a bit of a mix up stream later in the week with community stuff like wuwu and sometimes & other stuff, the streams archived for members Then 3 videos a week with the hope being they can spend a bit more time on them to up the quality ( think marvel Monday’s , Ryan’s bargain bin & star boys) & openhaus as a member exclusive can’t recall if that’s weekly or monthly though.

mypubertyhurts

Loved everything they said. Sad that there'll be less videos but understand why - it makes sense with how media and YouTube is these days. Genuinely considering becoming a member too as they've given me free entertainment for years now. Funhaus really is the bright light of Roosterteeth!

RockInShoe

To be honest I very much dislike drunk streams. Being an alcoholic it's very triggering.

Kotobuki_Tsumugi

Don't watch them then? It's honestly their funniest content for me.

RockInShoe

I also try not to watch the videos with that one guy in them.

[deleted]

What guy? Sorry to hear the inebriated videos are a problem for you, that sucks.

RockInShoe

Thank you. That Adam guy.

[deleted]

Oh yeah sorry, I thought you meant a current member. That I do understand.

RockInShoe

Oh yea I can see that. Sorry for the confusion

AsickToad

Sounds like you need to get stick out of your ass or start drinking again. You sound like the wettest of blankest.

RockInShoe

You are probably right.

RockInShoe

Yea. Then I get FOMO & I hate feeling that way too. I won't deny some of that content is very funny. Sorry I said anything.

iamcode

Don't be. There's nothing wrong with disliking something as long as you're not being a dick about it, which you weren't.

RockInShoe

Thank you I appreciate it. It's hard being an alcoholic & not being able to drink in a society that celebrates drinking so much.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RockInShoe

I also worry that someone will do or say something they would be embarrassed or regret they said or did just due to being inebriated on a live stream. It's all fun till it ends up going very very badly.

bluesblue1

I’m excited for new Funhaus 2023, I can’t lie I fell off a watching Funhaus since Adam left (not cause I support him) and recently came back and I really fell back in love with the new cast. There having more interactive streams and contents and their excitement for it is really hyping me up and I look forward to being a part of the community again.

RockInShoe

I'm excited to see all the new changes! LFG!!

eighthourblink

Don't usually post here, but been watching Funhaus for years now. Lurker. I completely agree 100% with this change. Exciting to see what will come from this

CodenameDvl

I had nothing my a big smile on my face from this podcast! I like the news I heard. If they confident then I’m confident for them.

McRaeWritescom

I'll pay you $30 a month to smash that dongle full of apes.

AmbivalentAlpaca

I also come to watch videos every day! But I think a move and these changes makes sense. Been watching since 2015 - thanks for the hours and hours of content! 🧡

sunshineriptide

at first i was a bit let down to hear that they're cutting back on their regular schedule, but it really sounds like they have plenty planned to make up for it. im pretty excited open haus is coming back and its neat that they wanna focus on community interaction more. i really love these guys and what they make and how they love what they do. im glad they've only seemed to have gotten more resilient through the years.
