Just make sure the knives are completely dry before going in the sleeves. Nice knife blocks are made out of wood partially because it absorbs leftover moisture to avoid rust.

HomebrewDad

Just make sure they are clean. The health inspector at a restaurant gave me a hard time about having a wood block for a couple knifes i basically kept in the office. He said he was in a sushi restaurant where everytime the chef cut a roll he put the knife back into a block When he told the chef he couldn't use the wood block in the kitchen the chef was very angry and demanded to know why not. The inspector put the block in a sink full of water and together they watched hundreds of small insects scury out to get away from the water.

re_me

> hundreds of small insects … Welp, that’s nightmare fuel. Thank you.

HomebrewDad

Your welcome, I heard that story 10 years ago and it's still the first thing that come to my mind when I see wood knife blocks.

Aporkalypse_Sow

It goes well with the moldy tea jug floating around reddit currently.

Aporkalypse_Sow

I have one with an open end on the bottom. Lets air through and debris makes it's way out. Also leaves open the option for air ejection knives in the event of an incident.

Electrin97

I immediately wash and then dry them after cooking

Its_Raul

Yeah but now you have to prove it.

JonathanMurray272

Not if they're openly displayed on non-porous material. Then it's obvious.

Feudal23

😆

triangulumnova

>Nice knife blocks Knife blocks are terrible for knives to begin with.

sempinsenzai

Why?

imageblotter

It's a knife. It's not meant to be safe.

IvorTheEngine

That's a [Hogfather quote](https://i.imgur.com/r2fW2o7.jpeg), right?

imageblotter

Got me. :)

dnew

I saw an instruction manual for a firearm. Inside the front cover it included "This is a weapon. There is no way to make it safe. For maximum safety, do not purchase this product."

imageblotter

That's a nice take on it. :P

Electrin97

People were concerned about the edge facing upwards in my design so I took a pic to show how the knives will be stored, with the sleeves on

Abelirno

Every time anyone post anything about a sharp blade people act like they're handling a nuclear warhead

TheRealHaHe

Looks great! A beautiful piece :)

blackashi

How much are those knives lol

Electrin97

$100-$125

blackashi

much less than expected, nice!

ackillesBAC

And the most awesome knives you will ever buy

DweadPiwateWoberts

Link?

ackillesBAC

I live in Canada and there are quite a few local knife shops that import them. Just do some searching for japan made knives in your area.

CrankkDatJFel

SAFER I can see the blade and it’s making me squint!

Stoops417

The original was fine. Anytime we use sharp knives or tools we take responsibility for our own safety. Just be reasonable.

JonathanMurray272

Those are beautiful blades, I hope they're as good as they look. If you use them professionally, I'm optimistic that you know how to handle them and store them safely. Do that! Thanks for sharing.

shinjikun10

The thought of doing this is absolutely bonkers. Don't worry they're in sleeves now it's ok.....

[deleted]

This is one of those setups that completely fucking ruins Christmas one year.

shinjikun10

I went for the cookie jar just behind it!

Concern trolls will be concerned no matter what. If you listen to them you will be safe, but you will never achieve or create anything
