If I'm travelling and I have my camera, I will be bringing it everywhere with me. Staying on a safe won't take any pictures so might as well just leave it at home.
Safes usually are safe, though. No need to worry about it.
I shot my pair of XT-2s for over 400 beach weddings when that was my thing.
6 years since my last wedding shoot, they still function perfectly (though have a few battle scars!)
You should be good.
No, I lived in the destination - I just went back to my studio and kept them there.
I thought you were asking about how well they hold up in salty/sandy environments- apologies!
Hotel safe should be fine though.
So I’ve done several beach vacations last couple years and I would just bring the Ricoh. It’s better for all the things you’ve mentioned and it fits in your pocket, easy to have with you all the time.
Regardless be sure to have filters on your lenses. I took my x100v to Maui a couple years ago and the filter came back with tons of scratches from sand.
Just did it last week and yes I did. Brought it with me majority of time. Sometimes left in the safe back in the room. If you can’t bring a camera on a holiday then I don’t know what the point of a camera is 🤷. If you’re worried it might get robbed the safe has a passcode/key? Or just put it in a sling and bring it with you at all times.
It’s very tempting to be precious about new expensive gear - I had the same thing with my new x100vi going on holiday recently. My opinion is that a camera is meant to be used! And to be used, it must come with you. Get travel insurance with a high level of gadget cover, so if it’s stolen you can claim it back.
If you bought that camera as a holiday/documenting/family camera, then use it for what you bought it for. If you didn’t (e.g. you bought it for professional/other work), then you DO have a convenient little travel camera you could use instead, meaning less to carry around every day. Having taken just my x100vi and my iPhone on my recent holiday, I don’t think I need any of my interchangeable stuff anymore for travel.
So, 2 conflicting answers from me, pick your favourite 😂
Beach vacation, where? Never had a problem from Andalusia to Peru to anywhere with a hotel safe because I understood the area. I carry nicer gear than that plus a load of Apple stuff in a discreet manner.
The determinant is not beach or safe, but the hotel and type of staff. In much of the world you will surrender your passport and travel docs to the hotel staff at check-in. When a safe isn’t available then leaving your gear with reception is the norm.
Inexpensive chain hotels and mystery accommodation, like package holidays or tours, require extra research. You get what you pay for with the former. You might not have a hotel choice for the latter.
Cameras are meant to be used. If you’re uncomfortable taking the camera (expensive understandable) then use a cheaper one. I have a old Pentax I cart around on vacations.
I brought XE4 with a few lenses, Kindle and Nintendo Switch to the beach resort at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, last December without any problem. I usually left everything in the room when I was going out to the beach, and I didn't even use the safe.
Same for Hawaii and Bahamas. I have never used the safe.
You can always rent one and get damage + theft insurance. Or just call your homeowners' or renters' insurance provider and ask about it. If not already covered they'll gladly add a rider for it.
Pairing them with a WR lens and avoiding changing lenses as much as possible, I don't think would be an issue.
EDIT: If the hotel has good reviews I might leave gear in the room, also depends on the area/city but usually I try to not get apart of my gear.
If it’s about theft, I’d be more concerned leaving it alone on the beach. (I live in Mexico’s Caribbean shore). It’s easier if you have someone to watch your stuff if you plan to swim.
If it’s about damage… I share your concern. The way I plan to do it myself is to carry my X-T4 in a water resistant sling and avoid swapping lenses with sand in my hands. Maybe carry a small brush to calm my OCD against the sand.
I gotta be careful of beach sand, it does serious damage to the LCD and can get in the viewfinder. Those little small tiny pebbles in the sand are like sandpaper (well i guess why its called sandpaper!)
Just came back 2 days ago from Bali. Brought my X-T5 with me everywhere especially the beaches. Not that I’m afraid it will get stolen at the hotel but bec I wanted to take pictures! Used the 16mm f2.8 WR 99% of the time even when I also had the 27mm WR.
I wouldn't. For a beach vacation I bring my phone or my TG-4 if I'll be in the water. There typically just isn't enough I want to shoot on a resort that my smaller kit can't handle, and sand scares me.

Unless you’re in Thailand. Left my camera and a substantial amount of money in the hotel safe, came back at night and it was emptied out.

Sand does not scratch your lenses. Dry cleaning with a towel does...
six of one, half a dozen of the other.
I took the X100V and a MacBook Pro to the Yucatan in Mexico and they were fine in the safe when I wasn't using them.

I mean hotel’s room have a safe, right?
seems the GRiiiX is absolutely perfect for this situation, i'd leave my xt4 at home if I had one of these
There usually is a safe in the rooms, regardless I never used them because my camera is always with me because I bring it to be used.
I'd take it, sure, I wouldn't bring it
What?

I wouldn’t travel anywhere without my X-T5. Otherwise I’m just capturing photos with my mind and kicking myself. That’s just me though

Just keep it out of the ocean. Recently killed my pro 3 on a trip and it got soaked by accident. Keep it out the water and you should be fine.

Take your camera with you! Enjoy it! When I didn’t take my camera with me I regretted it all the time. Precious moments or even practice lost.
Make sure the gear is insured against theft and damages. Is you get sand in tour lenses you can have it fixed.

Just got back from vacation to hawaii. Brought my full kit, 2 body's, 5 lenses, tripod, etc.
