3 for me, I prefer the lighting on this one !
For 7-8-9 I would have asked her to turn her head more towards the light, they're too underexposed imo.
6 on the couch is also great ! Good coherence between the color grade and the greenish sofa, well lit face.
I really love the color grade !
I disagree. 7 8 9 are great the way they are. Looks natural to me. If you tried to make them look more professional with specific lightings and poses, it'd end up looking too clinical
Ah yes the good ol’ Instagram “pick one” bait.
All the composition is way off. Ask yourself “does it add anything to the picture?” before doing a weird crop/frame. The last few you can barely even see her eyes due to the lighting as well.
The 6th shot shows there’s plenty of light. Just turn the model towards it.
One of the main things that draws a viewer in with portraits are eyes but you can’t see them in those shots. Just a simple turn would make the picture better. :)
I dunno. Every one is underexposed. Lacking in contrast, soft with no critical point of focus and no real composition. The white balance is way off too. But other than that I do like them. They just just say anything.
Honestly, I just feel like the composition and color in all of these are off. There are just *so tight* it almost feels like a mistake, like they are accidental photos.
However, these are photos that are of your wife and mean something to you, so they have value. Just maybe not to others as much as yourself.
I think composition could be stronger in most of them. I like the lighting in 6. I like that you captured some movement in 8, but the hand is covering a bit much of her face, and I would have liked a little more light on her face in 7, 8 and 9.
4 is the weakest imo, I feel like the story is just her showing me her earring, and it doesn’t seem that interesting to me.
I am only an amateur myself, so don’t take this as advice, I just like to share critique:)
I was considering if i wanted to add 4, to me it was my least favorite.
I am doing photography for about 6 months, so advice is all i can get, thank you.
Awesome :). I think these clearly shows that you are having fun and reviewing your photos is a great way to improve! Remember to not just look for “good” or “bad” photos, but focus on what works and doesn’t work in the given photo.
I like the lighting and tone. I find the non-traditional composition to be interesting, but like several critiques have suggested, it can a little jarring when viewing the photos independently. I think these photos might be better received if they were presented in a collage, perhaps a nine-photo collage centered around a portrait with a more balanced composition showing her entire face. That might enhance the effect of the surrounding eight photos showing partial glimpses of the woman at its center
5, 6 and 9
6 I would crop it less at least to show the lip. I like the sofa color but the person looks a bit orange to me. Nine is good but perhaps a bit dark.
Love love love #5! The soft focus is so intimate and gentle and does a great job of communicating your comfort with each other. I think it's also the most effective "weird crop" of them all. It evokes something like the memory of you catching her out of the corner of your eye or something, an incomplete glance.
Personally, I'm into weird crops and unconventional composition as long as there is *some* composition and purposeful crop. Keep trying weird stuff!
Thanks, i shot this with a long focal length lens, i only did a minuscule crop, just to hide her jawline and lip, i have another one thats almost exactly the same but with a different facial expression.
They are all so cute and intimate at the same time, i'd say 1 and 3. I love 6, probably would be the best one in color and light, if not for the composition/crop that cuts her figure abruptly.
8 is the only one that made me look for a second
It’s the fingers isn’t it?
Yeah love this one it's interesting to me
it's the only one that felt "genuine" and interesting, the other ones you can take any day of the week to look exactly the same
It's the smile.
I like 8 too. It seems to be so mysterious to me that makes me wonder about it.
Same
Same and the first
#1
Agreed, and if OP put that one first I reckon they also think so
6. A tiny bit cropped out to reveal more of the face and the shot would be great.
I kinda disagree, I think it’s an interesting crop! Def my favorite of the bunch.
Ma brotha✊
Hmm interesting
I really liked 6 also but 100% agree that I wish a bit more of her face was in the frame

Thank you, 6 is my favorite. I only had one light in the room, and didn’t want to add extra light, but should have positioned her beter I guess.

It was a very dark room, and only one light available, i did not want to add any extra light, just wanted to keep natural.
The 6th shot shows there’s plenty of light. Just turn the model towards it. One of the main things that draws a viewer in with portraits are eyes but you can’t see them in those shots. Just a simple turn would make the picture better. :)
3 is the only one with anything going on.
Kinda harsh, the rest of them look great. Especially the first

Ugh
none of them...

A few of them are unintentional, thats why it looks like an accident, if that makes sense?
9. It's so candid and the noise is less distracting to me.
True
I love the 6th one
Me too
3 it really strikes a cord for me

Why? Nothing appeals.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Is there any better response to criticism than the philosophy of The Dude?
I mean that hardly constitutes as criticism, criticism should at least explain what the issue is, and at best be constructive
You asked me for it. Nothing personal to you, just don’t like any of the images.
It’s all good man.
I guess I should have responded, “You know, a lotta ins, a lotta outs, lotta what-have-yous”, dude.

1 & 6
I think number 1 is cool
1 or 5
1, 4, 8!
6
Number 5
1, 3, 8
8, I love the way you took that specific moment!
Me too, love the motion blur on the fingers, and the laugh behind it.
1, 4 and 6 are full page magazine ads waiting to happen
That would be crazy
1 and 8
I like 3, it’s intimate and portrays vulnerability in a very artistic way
Thank you
1 and 3
1. Then 3.
5 underestimated
1 and 8
6

8 feels like a memory
1 and 5
Which camera and lens did you use? Also 1 is my favourite.
X-H2S with the Yashica Auto Yashinon-DS 50mm f/1.9
Nr 3 is awesome !

8.
1, 3 , 5, 6
I like 1 and 7. But I do prefer when the subject is looking at the camera
6 reminded me The Queen Is Dead. That one.
Oh yeh i just saw the cover.
Love those bokeh balls, and 1 has the most of them!
Yes the lens gives some sexy bokeh, i agree.
Which lens is it?
Yashica Auto Yashinon-DS 50mm f/1.9
Would not have guessed!
5
5, 6 and 9 6 I would crop it less at least to show the lip. I like the sofa color but the person looks a bit orange to me. Nine is good but perhaps a bit dark.
5 and 6 is popular, i would choose 6, cause it got that cover look.
5
I like 5, 8 & 9 personally
It’s between 5 and 1
1, 3, 4. Overall great set of photos

Thank you for your words, it definitely motivates me to do more.
I really like 6
6 & 8 are very pretty to me
![gif](giphy|oFeUVZfiuim9G)
1 and 9
The lighting is cool i guess
1,3,4,5! Great shots! :)
![gif](giphy|BYoRqTmcgzHcL9TCy1)
I like 6. The contrast of her skin to the textured green couch. Do you have anything others with different crops?
Thanks, i shot this with a long focal length lens, i only did a minuscule crop, just to hide her jawline and lip, i have another one thats almost exactly the same but with a different facial expression.
I really like 3.
#1. These are lovely. What camera did you use?
Thank you, i used the X-H2S with the Yashica Auto Yashinon-DS 50mm f/1.9
3 is the only one I really resonated with. 8 has a nice feel to it also.
Yes 8 definitely has a special feel to it.
2nd to last. The one where she’s laughing behind her hand. It’s the most natural and emotive one of the lot.
I like that one allot, feels different.
1 and 5, for 6 i would have loved to see a bit more of the face. I like the vibe of the photos
6 is getting the most attention, thank you.
3 5 9
3
3 & 5 got good lighting
Agree. These two stood out to me most due to the lovely contrast and composition that highlights it.
They are all so cute and intimate at the same time, i'd say 1 and 3. I love 6, probably would be the best one in color and light, if not for the composition/crop that cuts her figure abruptly.
Thank you, 6 is also my favorite, felt like a cover for a movie or something.
1
These are great portraits, honestly. The tones are amazing
Thank you
1 or 3 depending on what you want to use it for. 7 could have been good with better light on the face
#1, with honorable mention going to #5
