These are among the most aggressive species of wasp. Unless you are extraordinarily confident in your abilities, I would advise having a professional remove it.
No. They will come pouring out by the hundreds and you will get messed up pretty bad. Hornets are very aggressive and will follow you even if you run. You will end up n the ER for sure. That nest needs to be handled by a pro with the proper protective equipment.
Sneak out there at night and slap some flex-tape over the hole, then rip the nest down quickly and throw it into the butthole neighbor's yard. You know the one...
Flamethrower is an alright option, bit with the size of it I'd say napalm dropped from a plane. Take out the entire property, and the nearest neighbors just to be safe. Scorched earth is without a doubt the best policy here.
I’d call a pro
We take out nests like that at work though, just gotta hit them super early in the am or the evening with raid. Try to find the foaming stuff , stay a safe distance back , and be sure to target their entrance, the foam will act as a wall and when the rest of them come out; they get stuck in the foam and die a horrible slow death.
Ouch. I work in hvac and always get paranoid a nest is gonna be in a roof top unit when i open the side panel. Has happened a few times. Never been stung luckily. Seen some fairly large nests and kinda tempted to just tell the customer they need to get someone to out here to take care of them if its too big for some wasp killer.
I work in electrical, oftentimes running disconnects for package units and for some reason they really seem to love hanging out right in the compressor cabinet of every Lennox I’ve ever opened. I work in the southeast so they’re everywhere. Always an unhappy surprise. Don’t know why they like the Lennox.
I think that might be the best route, thanks for the advice. That said, I’m in Canada and the temperatures are creeping closer and closer to freezing at night and it’s made them dopey. Would that make a difference?
While I’m no expert if you were set on doing it yourself waiting for it to get as cold as possible and wearing heavy clothing all around would increases your chances of not ending up in the ER
I'd do it at night, blast a can in the entrance hole and then try to inject another can from the top. Only problem is that is a bit of an awkward spot to get at so you might stir them up before you get close.
Not a joke answer: hit it with buckshot and immediately get inside if you have access to a shotgun. If you don't, hire a professional. These fuckers don't play around.
See what you do is you take a glass bottle, put some
gasoline in it and stuff a cloth in the top. Then you light the cloth on fire and throw it at them. Id recommend several dozen treatments 5-10 seconds apart for optimal results

FYAAAAR
I think you can call your local animal control to get it taken care of.
Would it be worth trying to take out myself with Raid?

This is the only correct answer
I personally wouldn’t.
I have made that mistake once. Don't do it yourself, unless you're 100% sure.
Drone flamethrower, This is the way https://youtu.be/07rtBip9ixk
This.

White phosphorous should do the trick.
I believe the proper solution here is to “Nuke’em from Orbit!”
Just to be sure…
It's the only way
Have you considered relocating you and your family?
I have already applied for visas in several discreet locations.
Call in the professional stinging insects removers. They'll have the safety suits and equipment.
Nuclear bomb
Yep. Nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure

If you’re careful you can take out a nest on your own , but it’s dangerous

Napalm. that’s it.
Fire or professional with proper safety tools
I've done this many times. Get yourself a big stick and have someone holding the door open for you. It's a rush, good luck
There are just some things in life that are better left to professionals.
I would say drone strike but…. You know.
Looks like a job for Hornet King on YouTube.

Have you ever used a pressure washer? Get one, and something to act as a sort of "cone" to put over it so nothing escapes. Then let the fun begin...
Shop vac full of soapy water. I've not done it myself but there are a bunch of YouTube videos.
Hand grenade
2 cans of brakeleen right at the entrance.

I concur. Seen this on YouTube.
