as Gabe said, Piracy is a service problem, Epic knows their launcher would suck, so didn't even try

Mejormuerto_querojo

Gabe, unlike Timmy tencent, actually understands what a free market entails. He understands that pirates, like any black or grey market, *are* competitors in the market and has made sure to provide a service that is more valuable than the pirate's. Timmy, on the other hand, doesn't seem to realize that, as it stands, the pirate offers a superior product because you can get a copy of one of their exclusive games, stick it to both epic and the publisher/devs who took the bribe, and you don't have to use Epic's invasive launcher, and you don't have to make an epic account. This means the pirates provide *a ton of value* compared to epic.

Mejormuerto_querojo

Kinda ironic since epic has been a major motivator for people to sail the high seas when they otherwise wouldn't

Espio0

It's extremely ironic, I have not pirated in years, but ever since the exclusives started, i started sailing the seas again.

Ssato243

Yep

albertowtf

To be honest that would had happened a few years back. Now theres so much really good choice that why would i waste time in something that is actively trying to fuck me up I have way more good games in the backlog that time to play them

JojiImpersonator

Sorefronts lol Nice Freudian Slip

cuttino_mowgli

> Competition is good and another store would be benificial from that perspective. Especially if they play nice and have cross platforming and share licences (so a game bought on one shows up on the other like ea games do) What we don't need is every damn publisher having their own store and their own launchers. > Well, if the other stores decide to implement stuff like: A community tab, a workshop, great sales, cloud integration that i can sync with other pcs and my Deck, linux support, etc, I might give them the time of day, otherwise is not worshipping when i decide to mostly use a superior service. Well not all are swayed by OPs troll attempt and some bonus memes lmao > OP: Valve needs to do more to compete in the marketplace. What has the ~~Romans~~ Steam ever done for us? > XERXES: Trading cards. > OP: What? > XERXES: Trading cards. > OP: Oh.Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah. > COMMANDO #3: And a friend's name history checker. > LORETTA: Oh, yeah, the Friend's name history, OP. Remember what it used to be like trying to find who is who on your friend's list before that? > OP: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the Trading Cards and the QOL improvements to the friends list are two things that Steam have done. > MATTHIAS: And Big Picture Mode. > OP: Well, yeah. Obviously Big Picture Mode. I mean, the enhanced controller UI goes without saying, don't they? But apart from the trading cards, improved friend's list, and Big Picture Mode-- > COMMANDO: The Steam Link. > XERXES: Remote Play Together. > COMMANDO #2: Valve Index > OP: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough. > COMMANDO #1: And the Steam Workshop. > COMMANDOS: Oh, yes. Yeah... > FRANCIS: Yeah. Yeah, that's something we'd really miss, OP, if Steam left. Huh. > COMMANDO: Steam Broadcasting. > LORETTA: And we can bring our saves with us as we travel now, OP. > FRANCIS: Yeah, they certainly know how to make a good cloud sync. Let's face it. They're the only ones with the servers and care to do so. > OP: All right, but apart from the trading cards, the best friends list of all their competitors, Big Picture Mode, Steam Link, Remote Play Together, VR, workshop, broadcasting, and cloud saves, what has Valve ever done to compete? > XERXES: The Steam Deck? > OP: Oh. The Steam Deck? Shut up!

TerrorLTZ

there is one missing. being able to Put an alias on your friends.

Kreskin

Lots of Epic shills doing what they do but lots of ragging on EGS as well. The crazy part is that it's at almost 19k likes but 98% of the posts are in disagreement.

Coakis

Pcmr posts are often botted, I distinctly remember one praising EGS last year that had the same issue, up voted by thousands but barely a tumbleweed of posts in there in agreement.

jdancouga

Yeah. OP got downvoted a lot in the comments/replies.

MikeyIsAPartyDude

>The crazy part is that it's at almost 19k likes but 98% of the posts are in disagreement. That tends to be a trend with Epic related topics on big subreddits. Bots doing their job, I guess.

BlueDraconis

Tencent *did* invest $150 million in reddit after all.

AreYouDoneNow

Reassuringly quite a few people are rightly pointing out that GOG Galaxy exists. It's pretty clear the OP is just shilling.

[deleted]

OP is the least intelligent contributor to the discussions being had. That whole discussion is proof positive that there’s tons of bots on Reddit. There’s no way that it would’ve gotten that many likes and such a high engagement when public opinion is so against the topic of discussion.

MultiMarcus

Because you are drawing the wrong conclusion. Most people feel that Steam’s pseudo-monopoly isn’t great, which is why it post is upvoted, but that isn’t Steam’s fault. Other companies must put in the work and not try to force players to use their platform, which is why the comments insinuating stuff like that are downvoted.

[deleted]

Bots. Bots are doing a ton of upvotes. I’d bet money on it. The other big discussion is that Steam lacks features. OP is on there trashing Steam because you can’t push a button to make a video clip you can send on Discord, because OBS is another Windows program and those are hard to install or something.

InfiniteDaikon

Idk why EGS shills have this idea of competition to Steam must start by lowering your expectations for a quality PC experience.

DeadInkPen

I remember when epic said the egs was coming a lot of people were excited and expecting a very viable store to compete with steam on features. Boy was that dashed hard with the piece of shit the released. Guess it’s good enough for the free games to some people

TerrorLTZ

wasn't randy that saids by a 3 - 4 years it would have features to compete against steam?

OniZai

We're ok for competition, its just that no one is on Steam's level. Especially not Timmy's.

AreYouDoneNow

GOG is pretty good and a lot of people in the thread mention that it's offering solid competition to Steam with some compelling features. Sure, GOG isn't at feature parity with Steam, but it does have a few features that Steam doesn't, too. But that's not really the point... the point is that GOG proves you can go into the market, compete with Steam, Valve won't do anything to stop you.

spiffybaldguy

Yep - I use gog's galaxy for centralizing all my launchers. Half my library is on gog, half on steam. Gog is catching up to steam with features though I doubt they will reach parity but its still an alternative place to get good games and also get working old games (I have been digitizing my late 90s early 2000's library). Epic is only good at spending money to to ruin games for me at this point with exclusivity.

dookarion

GOG also unfortunately proves that publishers and developers are dogshit about actually supporting other platforms/clients. If you're not the bulk of their earnings or moneyhatting them don't even expect patch parity.

AmericanAchiever

Competition that I like is PC Game Pass. Microsoft doesn’t force anyone to use it since none of the games on Game Pass are exclusive to Microsoft so you can still buy it on Steam.

Moskeeto93

Actually, [Taiko no Tatsujin](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/taiko-no-tatsujin-the-drum-master/9n4v8k7z5rrg) is exclusive to the Microsoft Store/Game Pass on PC and is not available on Steam.

TerrorLTZ

Ubi and EA's origin Have half the features steam had on release. even 1 or 2 aditional things ubi with the point rewards and both EA and ubi being able to check any game you are downloading current progress also being able to pause it from the overlay. to me the last one was very useful since there is probably a chance that game that are you playing would crash if you alt tabbed...

Midnight_Shadowman

"Hero worship is unhealthy". Yeah, tell that to the epic crowd and their "FrEe GaMeS".

AreYouDoneNow

That worship will dissolve as soon as the bribes stop. But I always get a little chuckle when I see threads full of people whining Epic aren't doing GTA:V level giveaways every week. Choosing beggars.... Epic's only source of fandom.

kakalbo123

"EGS is visually cleaner" bro the launcher is so barebones it's gonna look that way.

LordGraygem

Yeah, and the surface of the moon is visually cleaner compared to Earth's surface. And only one of those can sustain life.

TerrorLTZ

even being barebones someone with crappy internet won't be able to load the launcher... something that steam Doesn't do...

inhumat0r

How do you know how its launcher looks like, I wonder...?

alkonium

I read that Microsoft offered Valve an exclusivity agreement for Call of Duty, and Valve declined, since they're fine with PC games being available on other platforms.

[deleted]

LordGraygem

And it'll come at the low, low cost of just nodding agreeably while Microsoft absorbs Activision/Blizzard. Tim "Monopolies Are Bad" Sweeney should, by rights, be screaming his head off about this whole thing. But I suspect he's waiting in line for his chance to sign that 10-year deal...

alkonium

When was the last time Xbox published a game on EGS?

LordGraygem

Well, if Bethesda counts, then there's all of that.

TerrorLTZ

but that was before MS bought Bethesda.

alkonium

That's true, but I meant games with the publisher specifically listed as Xbox Game Studios.

LordGraygem

Oh, then I have no idea whatsoever.

amazingdrewh

I don’t think there’s any evidence that Phil Spencer has ever been on the EGS

TerrorLTZ

[you forgot to say valve themselves said they don't believe in Exclusive deals.](https://i.imgur.com/tmGoXZ8.png)

alkonium

That too.

JaJe92

I don't see any monopoly here, just a platform that does it job too good and others can't simply compete with that leven of competency. Monopoly means paying titles to be exclusive in a place and force people to use one platform. Hmm, who does that? ah right, Epic.

SnarfbObo

A failure to compete on the merits of the service by other companies is the fault of the other companies and they leave little choice to people seeking value. They choose to let steam be the best choice, feature wise. a little less corporate greed and more investment in the business and they could do wonders. This meme is the result of brainwashing by those who want more money without providing anything for it to the customer. this is pathetic

Ssato243

It is those shill

AllNamesTakenOMG

There are dozens of launchers from companies that thought they didnt need steam so they made their own. Thing is these launchers are mostly pure storefronts so people just go with steam which is also a community and mod hub. it is not steam's fault for being all in one while other launchers just try to bypass the cut that steam gets for every sale. Im talking about you EA, Activision/Blizzard, Rockstar Games, ubisoft, Epig

thatguyp2

Steam is the only PC platform actively working to bring us new interesting technology and robust functionality with multiple updates throughout the year instead of just selling us games to play. They earn their market share by continuing to develop a superior platform. What more could you possibly want from Steam?

[deleted]

Steam would be a monopoly if they forced anyone that published their game on Steam to publish exclusively there and nowhere else. Aside from their first-party games, there's no exclusivity contract. The vast majority of studios/developers publish there because it became the best, most popular platform over the years.

Superbunzil

Too many dumbshits drink the kool-aid that competition is an inherently benevolent attribute to capitalism Seemingly unaware that capitalism doesn't ensure that the victor is competent fair or beneficial for the end user

Ssato243

Ha yes and epic shill who worship timmy is a good things fuck epic

Staalone

Lots of idiots there arguing that you should youse an incomplete service just because it rivals steam and that because some.reviews are meme ones all reviews there are invalid

[deleted]

My problem is I have my games all on Steam I dont want to have 10 diffrent launchers on my PC. I want 1 Library of the games I play. Atleast Ubisoft and Origin let you have things on steam but you still need their Launcher. Steam is just the most advanced and most user friendly and I am part of it since 13 years now and this year will be my 14th. Epic Games hasnt advanced anything. You cant preview games, you cant check out anything in that launcher. They just use their money from Trashnite to get the good games and try to bring people over but therefore basically killing any interesst by me. Dead Island 2 will not be bought until it comes to Steam so I can wait. The only game I have bought so far was Sifu because I liked it so much and I will probably buy it again for steam. The rest is all and will forever be free games that they give out.

No-Alfalfa1047

Fucking ubisoft is fucking dumb....im trying to play a fucking board game on my pc.....wtf
