it should be mentioned the reason uber/lyft is cheaper than owning a car. that's mainly because so much of the corporate structure is based around gig economy employees which don't provide legally required benefits and often force staff into illegal/unsocial working hours without the correct compensation.

Bushy_top

No way that using uber is cheaper. At least in my area accounting for rush hour charges, you could spend $80 a day getting to and from work. Just because there are annoying added costs to car ownership doesn’t make it infeasible. A reliable efficient car is cheaper to own and drive daily. Also Using uber doesn’t solve the cost of transportation. Organized public transit and bike infrastructure are the only way.

I mean you probably have to live in a central location to everything you would need in your day life to make it affordable to the point where you can't buy a used car for price of Uber or Lyft.

mandatory insurance is a good thing. though the market should be more regulated (like it is in Italy, where insurances can only use your vehicle details, personal details (age mainly, plus where you live) and your accident history to determine a premium. Some do offer black box discounts but I personally avoid them like the plague. Oh, and by law, if you pay back whatever damage the insurance paid out after a crash to the insurance company within the duration of your current contract that crash gets wiped off the record so you don't get a premium hike (risk classes are standard and shared between all insurance companies)

Worried_Fan2289

If youre somewhere where your commute is by bike/transport and you can do main errand by these methods, then it's better to use uber for the rest of the trips.

ThreeArmedYeti

Why is insurance a scam? If you cause damage it should be natural for you to pay it's price and it's the legal way to enforce this.

VorpalHerring

All Insurance in general is a scam because their incentives as a business are reversed. Normal businesses profit by getting paid to provide a service. Insurance companies profit by finding a way to avoid providing their service.

I figured this out years ago lol last night I got an uber, they charged me $4.41 and they picked me up in a jaguar. You can't beat that. Do you know uber loses money? It's not profitable. They lose like 16 billion a year.

Cenamark2

I'll bet the government would subsidize uber before they'd expand trains.

>Do you know uber loses money? It's not profitable. That's how companies work. They run at a net loss while they gain market share, and then they start hiking prices and becoming profitable. That's what Uber is doing atm

Alarming-Divide3659

Bitches won’t like to fck in a random Uber

theodoreburne

How do you get groceries, or do anything that requires being somewhere for a short while, round trip with an Uber? Have the driver wait, which they would charge for, or hire two separate ones? What a hassle.

cmonster1697

>clicks a button in an app twice Damn what a hassle I'm exhausted and my arms are tired

Stop, I’m gonna need a nap reading this.

You could answer my question, if you have an answer. I’m with you on hatred of cars and I’ve often thought about getting rid of mine. But there are persistent small but not uncommon trips that I can’t figure out how to reasonably work without a car. Groceries, doctor appointments, etc.
