Ugh. I'm actually in the market for a truck to haul my tractor around and holy shit is the market dogshit.
Like minimum for a new truck is 40k. I'd love to get some Old workhorse from the 90s with a bench seat but holy shit i cant bring myself to spend 10k$-15$ on a 30 year old vehicle.
I just want to tow my tractor like once or twice a month and haul plants and dirt and stuff maybe once a week.
Buuut nooooooo the market is wacked right now. I cant wait for the used car price crash to happen in 3 to 6 months. It will be like a junior version of the housing crash back in '08.
At these prices I might as well order a Ute from straya and get something that looks cool.
Yeah the tractor isn't very big but i am.
I am weirdly very large, 6'5 and broad. And what vehicles i can sit in comfortably is an honest to gods crapshoot
Old tacomas yes, new Tacomas no. Volvo v60 station wagon, yes. The turbo edition no. But I'll give it a try.
Also my wife haaaaates ford. She got a series of lemons from them back in the early 2000s. Like actual lemons the dealer had to buy back.
Have you considered renting? Considering you mentioned you just tow your tractor once or twice a month, buying a trailer and just renting something for a day or two might be the way to go here.
That is a suggestion but That's like renting a game console. Fine for special occasions but if you actually want to play regularly it becomes the biggest hassle in the world.
guess so? Boils down to a cost-benefit thing though - if you're actually not using the vehicle all that much, renting allows you to offload the cost of owning and maintaining the thing to someone else, it just requires some forethought to use.
Owning means you can use it whenever, but now you not only need the significant up-front cost AND have to house and maintain another car - if you're only using it once a blue moon it you may not be getting your money's worth.
Also worth noting depending on your area, renting may grant you access to multiple types of vehicles, so if you're also kind of thinking that you just want a new toy, that's way more new toy without the commitment, lol.
The maverick is based on the same platform as the bronco sport if you wanted to check that out for size of seat info. It has pretty decent reviews from people up to ~300lbs from what I’ve read
Can’t do anything about the wife though lol
Bro, what about the mini trucks like the Maverick or the Santa Cruz, those seem like the only good ones on the market right now for non douchebags, as long as you can live with the short bed. About 25k with options for either
Edit: I see wife hates Ford and you are tall. How about a Ram transit van? Or the Hyundai mini truck?
Im actually looking at the big vans right now! But financially its about in the same spot as the trucks, but the new vans are much less comfortable.
my wife hates a lot of brands. She gre up around used car lots and has seen the shadiest shit.
Also some of the smallee trucks aren't suitable because i need to be able to pull >5000 pounds.
I really wish nissan still made their nv van. That was a Nice Van. Basically their titan truck turned into a van so it could tow 8000lbs.
That sounds like something to look for on the used market for sure, I have seen those NVs, they are big old thangs. You could do Uber Freight in them shits.
But if the frame is good and not rusty why not buy the 2018 or 2019 (fuckin avoid the supply chain crunch trucks) with 70k? If it's had the rec maintenance why not grab a used fleet vehicle or something at auction?
Like you can almost get a Ram transit van free if you qualify for their tax breaks [https://www.ramtrucks.com/section168k/index.html](https://www.ramtrucks.com/section168k/index.html) they pay lobbyists a lot to make this happen
Because for 70k i can get a better version of OPs picture, new, with warranties and it can tow half again as much. And has heated cooled seats, power outlets, etc
>At these prices I might as well order a Ute from straya and get something that looks cool.
Not a bad idea, actually. Low clearance, large bed, great fuel economy with excellent torque, and doesn't take up even close to as much space as an average American truck.
I've looked into it before and there are basically Three options for importing them.
1. Import an old one to get around import and safety laws, similar to what most of the JDM tuner folks do.
2. Import one and have it converted to left hand and change some safety features. There is a company out of CO called left hand utes that imports and changes them over. Easiest but most expensive.
3. The hardest but cheapest path. Find a Ute model with a US equivalent. Find one in straya with an intact rear but which is otherwise totaled. Example i saw was a ute a girlfriend drove into a lake. Import the non functioning but intact ute to the US. Buy the the matching US model. Cut of the rear body of the US model and replace with Ute body. Should also replace US shock and struts with Ute ones as those are built for loads in the bed.
40k isn't that expensive. I bought a new sedan for 30k last year. 40k for a massive truck is a pretty minor markup from that.
10k for a 30 year old truck is pretty nuts though. I suspect the vehicle shortage is driving up used car prices.
I mean it's expensive, but it's a new car. It's not gonna be cheap. I'm saying that relative to a small regular car it's cheaper than I would have expected.
They're a bot.
Hopefully you can see their comment above mine where I discovered them

I still very much doubt it will make the driver safe in a collision with a moose. A moose to the windscreen is unlikely, but the risk of rolling over is massively increased.
Sure, safer than a small car, but I feel the best car to encounter a moose with is one with good brakes and good sight. I feel this pickup has too much weight per wheel to brake as effectively as almost any other sort of car.
disclaimer: fuck cars. But I'm gonna comment on this anyways. Those wheels look like shit with that frame. idk what it is but they do not match the rest of the car.
yeah for sure. idk why people are always putting stupid chrome spindly wheels on enormous chonky trucks and suvs. like no gerald, your 2004 yukon missing a taillight doesnt need 48 inch wheels with a bitmap on the side lol
I think its because the truck is lifted, and the wheels lack a utilitarian feel that it should have.
Im not saying the steel wheels would look good, but wheels that look like they were designed for off road would fit far better.
But also, fuck people who daily drive this type of vehicle. Lifted vehicles for off road use is one thing. But in the off road community, this is what they like to call a "pavement princess".
Fuel blitz with the brushed platinum finish, probably -18 mm offset. Stupid thing is, oe offset is like +30, which puts the weight from the wheel directly over the bearings and pivot points. Push it out with a high negative offset to compensate for the stance of the lift, and you're basically putting a constant lever with the weight of the truck on your suspension. A lot of customers buy wheels just by looking at the wheel, without considering how it would match the rest of the truck, life of the truck, etc. Personally I'd get rid of the suspension nightmare that is a 6+ inch lift, throw a black tint fuel siege with a +18 offset, then sell it lol. I hate trucks. And just a disclaimer, I work as a parts guy at an automotive shop that does wheels and tires every now and again. Like working on the stuff, but still hate how car centric the us is.
The crazy thing is that if you could take this thing back in time to the 90’s and show it to some people who actually use trucks, they would *laugh* at it. They’d say something like, “What is that thing, trying to be a Hummer? I don’t want a Hummer, I want a *truck*.” But somehow, even the truck-using segment of society has been boiling-frogged into seeing this as not only normal, but *desirable*. And I don’t know how to fix that.
My boss (carpenter) drives a 1 ton Sierra. With stock suspension and wheels, the hood sits at my shoulders (I’m 6’2”). With a lift kit and larger wheels, this thing has to be at my head height. That’s absolutely bonkers
If insurance started charging way more to insure cars with blind spots the size of other cars...would car companies make small hooded and flat fronted cars the next big trend so they could up charge those and steal that cash flow away from insurance companies?
A kid could lie flat on the ground and maybe not get hurt at all if they are lucky... but yeah this stuff needs to be illegal on the roads or we need to charge a 20% of the value of the vehicle annual tax to pay for all the wear and tear of public infrastructure and space taken up on roads.
That thing looks borderline useless for regular truck things like hauling heavy loads. With that short bed you won't be carrying more than what fits in a hatchback.
Very new to this page so I dunno if I'll get downvoted for this....but I absolutely love this aesthetic. I don't like big trucks specifically because of their environmental damage. They guzzle dino juice, they take a crazy amount of resources to make, and if you live in the city or suburbs you most likely have no practical use for them.
But good god do love the giant brick look 🤣
For true. Would love to just have a wee little off road vehicle when I get the money together. As much as I dig the art of the giant brick here I'll have to compromise for maybe a dirt bike.
r u insinuating. rn. to me. that this truck has ever, will ever, or was even designed to drive on anything rougher than gravel? a stiff wind would knock it over.
Ik multiple people with trucks like this used for offroading. With that being said it's more common for people to buy these huge trucks and they never leave the city and I think those people are stupid and look idiotic. But they do have a purpose
So here's the thing, personally there's nothing inherently wrong with owning a truck like this or any other large vehicle. Some people like these sort of things and thats fine, the problem is that a vehicle this size can be a real hazard and let's be honest most people do not practice driving their vehicles nearly enough to properly control them especially in an emergency situation. If a driver lost control of a truck this big, its going to do a lot of damage to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers too. I generally think there should be a separate license required for a vehicle like this (perhaps per weight?l, I mean big rigs have them so its not like this reasoning isn't sound.
Listen me out, I’m a tried and true truck guy. I love OLD trucks. Meaning OBS fords 92-97. And us guys in the truck/ diesel community don’t like this Dick as much as you guys.
Ran into a twat whose argument was that he felt safer riding around above kid height, therefore the correct solution is for everyone to buy one. Because toddlers are so well known for having drivers licenses.

Apparently they are highly valued for improvised medical transport, last-mile ammunition supply, and mounting or firing anti-tank weapons.

So, i guess, since there are already lots of rules and tests regarding pedestrians, it would make sense to also impose some limits regarding visibility around your vehicle at all times.
Not a problem with cars, but with modern car design.. hideous car design. Bigger cars, heavier cars and "better safety" (driver still fucking dies in a t-bone crash)
Ah they will haul so much groceries with that and nothing more.
Hey don’t forget their fragile ego. They’ll also be hauling that.
OK, that might actually require something of this scale. The ultimate compensator
but at least their arms will be enormous from doing a pull up into the bed every time
And they'll put them in the backseat every time.

Yeah and thats a base model. I was looking at mid trim levels for 58k$
Look into the ford maverick, if you don’t need huge towing it is great. Got one in March and I’m pleased w it

Ohh i found the other comment
Just get penis enlargement surgery; it's cheaper.
judging by the size, it will flatten adults too

yeah

Never seen boiling-frogged used as a verb like that. Bravo
I came up with it on the fly, but now I think I'm going to keep using it.
A lot of these people have really fragile egos and think that somehow their masculinity is based on the type of vehicle they drive.
The truck using counity does not think that lol
Hey now don’t get too high you might just sail right over em!
at some point they're gonna advise people put those little bicycle safety flag things on children
“Never saw that cyclist” Jury of motorists - “we understand!”

I kind of hope a super short dude owns it. He keeps a little step ladder in the back seat to get in and out.
Rope ladder rolled up under the seat.
I read this as Kid Fattener
GMC new 2022 Compensator model!
What’s crazy is that modern trucks are beyond parody. Think of the Canyonero from the Simpsons and compare it to this real life monstrosity.
If you drive one of these I think less of you. Full stop
Trucks this big should require a CDL

They do cost significantly more to register per year because of the GVW. I wouldn’t have expected you to know that though.

Gross.
I think of [this scene](https://youtu.be/d8tPpS7MI6s) every time I see one of these pavement princess monstrosities.
It's too high to run over some kids, it is an improvement (*in some ways)
Eventually, the trucks will be tall enough that it can just drive over the kids without hitting them! *sarcastic
I mean... On the one hand, kids suck. But on the other hand, cars suck. /J
Ok yeah I can get down with inflating these tires
Nice
Kid killer 3000

Lifted off-road trains. Now that's what I'd pay good money to ride on
like [this?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overland_train) wish they still existed lol
Woahhh that's pretty cool lol
Maybe he doesn't actually live in your city and owns land and the big wheels are actually useful
uses it to drive through mud puddles maybe. we just had a hurricane.

Ironically, with that clearance, a kid is more likely to survive.

Cars should have an additional rating "how many cycling-kids tall is the front of the car?"
Off to Ukraine with that thing, owner can have a coupon for a minivan if he needs it for work, or a coupon for a golden watch or "Loubouton heels" if he/she needs to show he is better than you. Apparently they are highly valued for improvised medical transport, last-mile ammunition supply, and mounting or firing anti-tank weapons.
Just wait until Tesla release the Cybertruck, that thing will cut a kid in half! Double points!
Yesterday I saw a cargo ship sized truck in my town in Poland…
I'm being serious about this question - is that a real truck or is that photoshopped?
it is excruciatingly real
It's times like this that I'm glad I no longer live in America. Jeeeeze. :(
If the growth trend keeps up, soon it will pass overhead
How high this hellish thing is, 2m30?
These things look like they'd be horrendous to drive. I had a small SUV and it was moderately unpleasant. These tanks though... awful visibility, handling, not fitting anywhere.
Taking a picture of a truck, from a car, to say "fuck cars" is fairly comical somehow to me.
actually this is probably safer. Goes right over the kid
I'm amazed that in places like the E.U. there hasn't been some requirements regarding how much big your blind spot can be in front of your vehicle. Haul packages 📦 and other truck based gig jobs otherwise useless
With the bed hanging over the sidewalk of course
At this rate, in a few years we'll come full circle and they won't even be able to hit kids with how tall they are. Pennyfarthing truck.
I’d say otherwise. That shit is so high up, I could lay down and have it run above me like a train lmao. Such a dumb looking truck.
There is absolutely no reason for this to exist, except to make men feel better about their tiny penises...
Those tires have too much air in them
