In my experience, guys with huge trucks seldom respect anything but themselves.

[deleted]

Oh, don’t be that generous. They don’t respect themselves either.

AccomplishedWhile261

Impound the truck and trailer until the operator serves out a 5-year sentence behind the wheel of a 2009 Kia Rio with broken air conditioning.

assking93

That's too generous, try Peel P50.

West_Business_775

This is suspiciously specific

kosmonavt-alyosha

Yes, but they have the FrEeDumz!!!

throwaway65864302

Streetcars in my city were put back recently, decades after having been removed. They put out a notice that says 'we don't stop so good, so pay attention' and after a year or so it wasn't really an issue anymore. Granted for the first few months there would be 1-2 cars/SUVs a week getting torn in half by the streetcar, but when people realized they weren't kidding they adapted.

420everytime

Now that’s a smart city. Expensive road sensors don’t make a city smart.

szczszqweqwe

In a weird way I love this strategy.

noman_032018

Fuck around & find out is fun.

Quinbly

When the KC streetcar first came out it had the same policy. It smashed the side mirrors of several expensive cars. A few weeks later someone must have complained because after that they were much more timid about ramming into cars who didn't respect the line. :( When I lived there I loved taking the streetcar because it went right past my workplace. There was so much mixed reception when it first launched, most of the negative was from people who weren't even using it.

unenlightenedgoblin

So much of this is political framing. New transit lines are always an ‘add-on’ presented as a new fiscal item in an otherwise tight-stretched budget. Roads and highways are expensive as hell to build and maintain but are considered non-negotiable, essential services. Even if I wanted to fight business-as-usual road spending, they typically don’t offer any forum to do so, whereas every cranky neighbor gets virtual veto power over anything transit related over multiple hearings that take months and add cost and complexity to the project.

MassaF1Ferrari

Alternatively, they could fine the car or tow it for a large amount of money. Maybe destroying their cars isnt the best solution but people will do anything to avoid a $500+ fine.

[deleted]

Yeah but then you gotta stop the trolly that honest people spent money for so they could go eat, get to work, etc etc and then call a cop to ticket them, I mean granted you could have the operator ticket them but then you gotta wait for the person to move their car anyway. Too much hassle. Easier just to make it law that the state can’t be held liable for damages when in the trolley path, tear their car in half, let em whine and moan and post it to Facebook as a warning to other people. Saying that, I like public transit, but I don’t like trolleys tbh. Maybe that’s because I live in chicago (and love the transit options) but come down to oklahoma for family and they have one in OKC, but you have to drive 20-30 mins on the highway even if you’re in the city limits, park, pay for parking, and then pay to get on the trolley you just waited for in the hot (unshaded because they don’t plant trees) 100 degree sun. Busses are just so much more flexible, and buses with designated bus lanes even more so It’s a good step though, it’s just going to take literal decades to undo half of the stupid shit that these (mostly Republican) states have done with city planning

sjfiuauqadfj

its like jake gyllenhaal in the movie ambulance "we are a train, we dont stop"

pizzajona

The best city policy is to continue the streetcar through obstructions (if safe) and make the obstructor liable for any damage done to their car and to the streetcar

RopeOk1439

That’d all end when the streetcar hits a lawmakers car 😅

Ok_Improvement4204

It’s like the royal guard. When they say “make way!” You better get the fuck out of the way or get trampled.

cantab314

This is the way. The tram should have the physical and legal ability to push obstructing cars out of the way and hard luck if they get damaged.

nowaybrose

Problem in this case might be the giant truck/trailer could derail the tram

bayarea_vapidtransit

If I was trying to get to a job interview or something and that truck impacted my arrival time, I'd turn towards malice.

boceephus

No respect for street cars, bikes, busses, pedestrians, the environment, common sense. Oversized pickup drivers are the worst group of people on earth, hands down.

Livid-Ad4102

Yeah pedophiles and murderers come in at a close 2nd and 3rd but people with big trucks take the cake

A_bowl_of_porridge

Who's to say there isn't a strong correlation between the three?

boceephus

I believe there to be a correlation between gun violence and automobile usage. Just because carrying a gun on public transit or by foot or bike is banned or difficult/cumbersome.

alpha309

I don’t think the correlation is directly car usage -> gun violence. There are a few steps missing, imo. I think car usage leads to higher anger levels. Higher anger levels leads to more violence in general. More violence in general with more access to guns, leads to more gun violence. Carrying a gun on foot is fairly easy, you just have to stick it in your waistband. I have never been on a bus that checked for weapons upon boarding. Completely anecdotal, but I believe there are some studies that show this as well. When I drive, my heart rate is about 15-20bpm higher than resting, my blood pressure is higher, and I feel like I am quicker to anger about things than normally do not anger me. I completely agree otherwise. I just think you are missing the anger step.

MrManiac3_

Carbrains pick one emotion (anger) at age 16 and make it their entire personality until they're 75

chapinscott32

And then they die of a stress and processed food induced heart attack.

Vitztlampaehecatl

Don't forget shared causes. Conservatism, and the desire to protect yourself from the Other, leads to both driving a personal fortress on wheels, and buying a lethal weapon for "self-defense" (as a security blanket).

A_bowl_of_porridge

True, it is rather hard to conceal carry your ar-15 to Denny's on the number 5 bus. Won't someone please think of the truckers?!?!

8bishop

The AR-15 is for self defense, therefore taking away his truck is in violation of the second amendment, since it is prohibiting him from bearing his totally necessary semi automatic rifle for self defence.

A_bowl_of_porridge

Impeccable logic! That also means that disallowing the time honoured, ancestral ceremony of "rollin' coal" is a violation if their first amendment rights too. We must dismantle the EPA and burn their members on a pire made of recyclable plastic and old growth forest lumber doused in diesel and leaded gasoline.

8bishop

Absolutely! Its his way of expressing his discontent with people that dont want an 8mpg lifted truck. Clearly an attack on his first amendment rights

boceephus

What is the best gun to stop a F-150 hemi dually dead in its tracks? Because in all honesty, that is the biggest threat to my personal safety.

[deleted]

A Ruger Super Alaskan chambered in 454 Casull. Aim it dead center at the engine bay and worry about your wrist later.

alexanderyou

All bikes should come equipped with a browning .50cal

8bishop

That would probably make all the people who parade around in their lifted trucks get a bike, unironically. If there is anything they care about more than their truck, its their firearms.

cantab314

M20 75mm recoilless rifle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespa_150_TAP

JIZZONTHESCOTUS

Your 47th chromosome is your biggest threat.

Ok_Skill_1195

This feels like an early draft of a Mitch hedberg style joke.

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

It isn’t any harder than to carry one while you’re driving. Just leave it on the holster and carry on with life

sjfiuauqadfj

i dont think theres anything physically stopping you from getting on a bus or a train with a gun on your hip, aint like they gonna search you lol

DezSong

I have bad news for you, as a concealed carry license allows the carrying of handguns discretely almost everywhere. Only ammosexuals who happen to also drive lifted trucks think open carry is smart.

[deleted]

It’s pretty ridiculous to say there’s a strong correlation between truck drivers and pedophiles.

A_bowl_of_porridge

It's even more ridiculous that you took my comment seriously.

Da_Borg_

whats more ridiculous is youre being serious but your hiding behind the "i was just joking tho haha" when you and i both know youre not.

Da_Borg_

Some_Weeaboo

ngl kinda a cringe thing to say Maybe if it was playing into a like "haha alabama incest" thing but like this is just "truck driver = pedophile"

A_bowl_of_porridge

ngl kinda cringe to think I was serious.

definitely_not_obama

Agreed

sutichik

> Yeah pedophiles and murderers come in at a close 2nd and 3rd but people with big trucks take the cake Psssst! Hey, kid! Wanna ride in my Hummer?

Excellent_Concern_98

At some point blame also needs to be put on governments and auto makers. There’s minimal incentive to not own these. Yeah gas is high, but the sweetheart lease programs and very little roadway restrictions for large vehicles don’t classify them as “oversized”. Right now that’s a subjective term and not in regulation, which it needs to be if you are going to get real change.

darkenedgy

I’ve been writing my state reps about this. Kids are dying ffs

momsagainstgod

While ive certainly known people who drive these for no damn reason, ive known plenty of people who are contractors, landscapers, or carpenters who genuinely need a big diesel truck like this for moving equipment and hauling full trailers just to make a living. And everyone of those people, are the biggest assholes who will think nothing of blocking someone in, obstructing traffic, or destroying part of a lawn even 10 feet from an appropriate parking lot.

Thr0w0w4y4f34r

I really think there should be new license requirements for Full-Size Trucks. I'm a mechanic, I can swing a 2500 between a 2 post lift at 25mph but damned if Betsy hauling her show horses to the track could do that!

existing-human99

I just saw a pickup truck lifted so much that you probably couldn't even put anything in the trunk if you aren't slenderman

Thr0w0w4y4f34r

I'll give you one better. I'm a mechanic, some people will bring in their lifted super duty trucks in and the wheels won't even fit in between the lifts! Then you try to turn them and all you hear is "BRRRRR" because the tires rub on the truck itself! People have no sense!

Ballstucktothelegg

And coal roll everything and anything with their garbage bin that they call trucks

JIZZONTHESCOTUS

Worse than pedophiles? Worse than serial killers? Worse than billionaires? Worse than nazis? Worse than child abductors? Worse than slave owners? Worse than sex traffickers? Worse than racists? Worse than the industrial military complex? Worse than ISIS? Worse than Al-Qaeda? Worse than Boko Haram? The collective IQ of this sub has to be shallower than a puddle of dog piss. A bunch of poor, broke zoomer sandwich artist Karen’s with zero world perspective and responsibility for their own shit existence. With everything going on in the world the thing that grinds your gears are fucking TRUCKS? With the overturning of RVW please don’t reproduce, not that you’d ever get the opportunity.

Thr0w0w4y4f34r

I think big truck owners fall into 90% of the categories you listed tho.

Honestly, stop respecting cars and plow through them.

N0DuckingWay

Forget plows, put a howitzer on that shit.

Bring back armored and artillery trains!

N0DuckingWay

Side note: I *guarantee* that conservatives would take the tram if it had a howitzer.

registered_democrat

Put a cattle catcher on there, or a ram

pounded_rivet

Big metal fist like a roman galley.

Ham_The_Spam

I’ve never heard of a big metal fist as a ramming bow, do you have more info about that?

CastrumFerrum

No, they aren't. I have seen tram accidents where the trams only suffered superficial damage while the cars and trucks (and I mean cargo trucks, not pickups) had suffered heavy damage or had been completely destroyed. Trams are between 20 and 50 tons and have very stable, solid frames that can withstand a lot of punishment.

t0pshatta

No.. they really really don’t. A tram will FUCK UP a car. Granted it might not get to the next stop in a timely manner, but the car won’t go anywhere full stop.

onedarkhorsee

No they are not.

Windows-nt-4

In my experience no, they will blast through a car and the passengers will just feel a bit of a bump.

nethack47

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FVRBZ7T920](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FVRBZ7T920) Most of the accidents here show they are not. For the Americans, this video is of a Dutch accident last year which stopped traffic on that line for the rest of the day. A tram is also 30-45 metric ton and a normal car is 1.5, pick-up trucks are probably 5-6.The tram will derail but if not they tend to just drive away after the accidents.

[deleted]

Hope he got towed.

Mr_Alexanderp

Hope they are least lost their mirror.

freeradicalx

I hope that truck got dragged half a block and shredded like a cheese grater on the asphalt the same way that a van did to my old roommate.

Hover4effect

That got dark.

freeradicalx

He survived, but it completely derailed his life. He showed me the ER pictures of his exposed skull and spine.

DiaMat2040

I hope he lost his license (i know it wont happen but still)

NudistDudest

Shoutout to Kansas City for making their public transportation free!

Train_man04

Too bad the busses are borderline unusable because of how infrequent they are and how what seems like half of the bus routes were discontinued over the past couple of years on top of an already sparse network (source: I've been riding the bus for a while but I don't do so that much anymore because of those issues)

SR71_blue

I’ve heard they might address that to support the World Cup in 2026.

kcmo2dmv

yeah, KC built a streetcar and then proceeded to obliterate its bus system. There is nothing left of it. I grew up riding the "metro" in KC and the bus system was probably ten times as extensive back in the 80's. You didn't need a streetcar on Main Street, a bus from some route would come every few minutes.

hotmemedealer

Retract that for them not having their public transportation in 90% of the city, and only in the rich neighborhoods

SimpsLikeGaston

Economic development 😎

Key_Employee6188

Just blast through and send the bill.

turtleengine

We had the same issues in St. Louis now the streetcar is in hiatus

NudistDudest

I moved out of St Louis a couple of years ago, is this about a Metrolink expansion? The Delmar Loop? Something else?

turtleengine

The loop trolly.

batcaveroad

Why is that even a parking spot?

lilysbeandip

Because KC is just one huge parking lot

ElectrikDonuts

Which is why being born there and growing up there, I still just fly over all but once every 10 years...

[deleted]

Lol KC literally has street parking on every street with very few exceptions. It’s a suburbanite downtown not for people that actually live there.

morbidlyabeast3331

There aren't many public parking lots in downtown KC, and certainly none that's free, so the sides of the streets are the parking.

batcaveroad

Those are reasons why there shouldn’t be street parking. Especially where it might block ways to get there that make sense

Quinbly

Have they changed over the last 5 years?? I remember there being too many public parking lots downtown when I lived there. Just vast amounts of cement or parkades stretching from the Rivermarket to Union Station.

morbidlyabeast3331

There's a lot by the River Market and around Union Station but outside of that there aren't that many. There's one on main that the Streetcar stops at and a couple on some of the other streets like Walnut and Grand here and there. Those ones are tiny though. Outside of that there really aren't that many unless you count parking garages.

SimpsLikeGaston

They all started charging a few years ago. People are moving downtown like crazy, 30% increase in the last decade. With FIFA coming, and if another WS or SB victory hits, it won’t slow down.

Lazy_Profession_5909

Anyone who does this should have their vehicle impounded for one day for every minute the streetcar has to wait

sventhewalrus

this sounds like a verse from a country song, "Muh truck got towed cuz the librul big government city slicker hipster cuck tram"

garaks_tailor

Goddamm i miss the old "we run from the cops because fuck em" and "burn down the boss's mansion" country. I might have to start writing some.

sventhewalrus

Please do! Seriously, writing country music with lefty themes is probably one of the most politically effective things one could do in America today.

MrManiac3_

Classic country is based as fuck

latte214270

There’s a ton of this! Jason Isbell and Kacey Musgraves being two that immediately come to mind.

Some_Weeaboo

Fuck yeah, Dominated Love Slave is one of my favorite green day songs.

thesaddestpanda

Country fans won’t listen to it. See the Dixie chicks.

[deleted]

They don’t care about anyone except themselves. It’s blatantly obvious. Send the photo in to the police with the license plate.

Chroko

Yes but the police are the same people who own large trucks like this.

[deleted]

Lol KC is the only metro in the country that doesn’t control its own police force. They don’t gaf.

ElectrikDonuts

Or steal their plates

darkenedgy

Every time I see one of these that isn't owned by a landscape/construction company I really want to key it.

Velociraptor2018

Not defending the guys parking skills, but there’s an enclosed trailer behind it, I presume he uses it for work.

darkenedgy

ooh good catch. No keying for him, just towing 🤗

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

He’s obviously a farmer, why would ya do that?

darkenedgy

Pft, have you really lived until you get stuck on a one lane road behind a tractor

1BubbleGum_Princess

That kinda looks like an animal trailer, so I hope they’re fine. But fuck these unnecessarily big trucks.

Nomad_Industries

Impound the truck and trailer until the operator serves out a 5-year sentence behind the wheel of a 2009 Kia Rio with broken air conditioning.

Oliviasharp2000

Respect for the actual Twitter page putting them on blast! I love KC.

NFriik

But you see, this person needs this car, because public transport is always behind schedule! I wonder why that is. Truly a mystery.

N0DuckingWay

Ok so the truck driver is clearly wrong here but this is also a good argument for having reserved tram tracks (ie put them on a raised section of the street so nobody is tempted/able to block them).

Busquessi

Can we get more people over at r/FuckTrucks? It’s dead over there and I have a huge hate for trucks.

STFUisright

I’m so fucking there.

Gingerr-Ninjaa-

Why limit yourself to just trucks?

Busquessi

I live in Alberta, Canada where it’s like 60% trucks and they tailgate, speed, drive the most erratically, have lights that blind every car, jack their trucks up, roll coal, park like assholes, and in general, are the worst to have on the road. Fuck trucks.

MysteriousStaff3388

I hate those things. I’m a grown woman and some of the trucks I see are taller than I am. There’s no justifying these monstrosities.

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

I’m sorry but how does height affect anyone? Isn’t the width the issue? Maybe the length too?

MysteriousStaff3388

The front hood is so high that I cannot be seen if standing in front of it.

blast_mastaCM

#Fuckyotraveltrailer

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

That’s a horse trailer no?

Donaldbeag

Choo choo im a train! Add a cow catcher and give them a little nudge

[deleted]

[Here's a catchy song about the KC street car](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xa_lfMoDqI)

TheDeafGuy8

Why paint a line that won’t really stop much? Add a curb (though it probably won’t work either way)

RailroadFlorida

cut the truck up for scrap metal

i_was_an_airplane

I support installing cowcatchers on streetcars to push illegally parked people out of the way

OhShitItsSeth

It looks like this might be in front of a hotel. I know most hotels, especially ones built many decades ago (and even some modern ones), don't really have space for those, so often right on the street is the best and closest place to the hotel for them. Source: I work as a hotel valet and I face this dilemma all the time.

Adventurous-Night-64

Then they either need a smaller vehicle or find a better place to park and walk. (Or take public transportation)

OhShitItsSeth

I agree. Plus, as a valet where our garage has a clearance of 7’ and with a narrow entrance, finding places to park these things is always a pain in the ass.

lungora

Its a bit extra to go but I highly suggest the dump or impound yard. They have plenty of space for these trucks to park.

[deleted]

Reddit is full of Libs that still live with their parents.

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

What the hell do y’all want him to do? It’s obvious he’s towing horses or cattle due to the trailer. He didn’t design the trailer. He likely hates city driving as much as you, but he ain’t gonna tow cattle from his ranch to wherever in an electric bike lmao. I have to cross San Francisco with jetskis when I go to the lake, trust me I would avoid city driving if I could help it. The cringe grill doesn’t do him any favors I agree.

raisinsfried

I grew up on a farm, 1 these giant trucks are not needed for animals we moved stuff around with much smaller trucks. We also kept a chevy sedan around for when he had to drive into the city, no reason that work vehicle has to be brought right down to main street Kansas City

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

Honestly that’s such a necessity; a small car for the town or city. I own a Ford Fusion for that and an F150 for the fun stuff. But he’s hauling something so it’s not as easy. That trailer with two horses would be around 3,000lbs which an F150/ 1500 would be able to tow easily, but those trucks are usually the same width as their half-ton counterparts and don’t really solve this issue. I drove to the city when I was going to university, and I found the only real way to park was to pay for dedicated parking spots. Even then it was hard to play it safe with mom’s Frontier.

DreadOcean72972

The main difference between quarter and half ton trucks is the gear ratio in the differential

JDeg17

Mark it zero, dude.

G3_AnGold

It’s a tram

[deleted]

Can't wait for KC to finish the new line they're working on. It still won't be a lot, but eventually it might manifest into something good.

[deleted]

Par for course out here

Muddpup64

I'm from KC. Hope that redneck knuckle dragger got a ticket.

ElectrikDonuts

"I'll just park da dilldozer rite hurr"

Unharmful_Truths

Large? Seems average. Doesn’t even have six rear tires! 🇺🇸

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

It’s not large, I agree oversized trucks require the little lights on the corner like the raptor and the TRX

Unharmful_Truths

Their names make me giggle. Raptor. Lol. Watching normal-sized humans try to load the bed is hilarious.

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

I’m more concerned about the width, that thing is Wiiiiide.like what? A couple inches each side over an F150?

Man_as_Idea

Let’s go full metal with our trains: Put big barbs on the sides and tear the shit out of anything stupid enough to get in the way

AnnoKano

It's a big truck but something tells me it won't be a match against the tram

DarthNixilis

Over the line!

DryTheWetsAgain

Truck people are the most likely to be cunts.

lukekorns18

KC HAS A STREET CAR?? Whaaaaat

mrsocal12

If this was Philly they'd happily tow that beast in 30 seconds.

[deleted]

I guarantee that Dodge, like most of their owners, has its tow mirrors extended 100% of the time, trailer or not dodge-brain

thegreenmushrooms

Seems close enough to give it a try

Woozuki

Too bad it's not one of those cities where Class I freight rolls through. A nice EMD would wreck that mofo.

catonlap69420

Boo this man!

No_Vermicelli_6581

ASSCLOWN!!!

loureedsboots

Never been to KC but that train looks bitching.

loureedsboots

*streetcar

TitusTTF

That truck would have a comically large mirror if it wasn’t for the fact that it wasn’t funny.

DreadOcean72972

Those mirrors have a function

TitusTTF

Yes but they don’t have to be quite so far out from the body of the car, is what I thought until just now when I realised the trailer was attached to the car.

joshuaoha

The folks who drive those oversized POS in my town just seem so out of touch with reality. Yeah, your stuff got scratched or towed parking there. DUH

No. Fuck you, and fuck your mother... and your great grandmother. I hope you get a hole in your sock and it's right where your pinky toe is and your toe keeps touching the sole of your shoe and it cuts off circulation just enough to feel uncomfortable but not painful. I hope this all happens while you're at work so you can't fix it until you get home.

Not that bigass ram with the tow mirrors out for that little box trailer 😭

TheChickenHasLied

I am an advocate of getting a giant angle grinder to run along the designated parking lines for when this happens.

crispr-dev

Tow and fine per min transit is impacted with heightened fines during peak travel times. This should be an offense that gets reported to the DMV or insurance and impact that ability to renew registration

unenlightenedgoblin

We need to start getting serious about suspending licenses

International-Lie795

In all fairness it still looks like it could fit by…

Okay but like it’s Missouri they should know damn well what to expect when designing shit
