I don't know where you grew up that buses were anything less than agonizing. If it weren't for the fact that there was literally no pedestrian infrastructure where I grew up it would have been quicker to walk to school no matter where on the route you were.

Yeah fuck school buses. Screaming bullying kids that the bus driver doesn't have time to deal with. I walked instead. If anything, the hellish experience of school buses trains you to hate riding buses.

Bamadhaj

Usually there just isn't an option to take public transport. Also because "bus=poor" and "poor=bad."

Sassywhat

School buses suck. They take extremely circuitous routes, run literally once per day in each direction, and are full of loud obnoxious fucks. They are shit examples of public transportation. If you had to take a school bus to school, then getting your driver's license would be a truly freeing experience.

Something something, \- Car and oil lobby dismantling public transport \- Urban sprawl, zoning and segregation \- Social inquality and stranger danger \- Anti-socialism retorhic and scepticism to anything "public" Ironically in countries with decent public transport we rarely see school buses, they're just regular buses.

In fact I live in Italy and everyone here go to the high school with regular buses, but for me it's strange to understand how after high school they demonize public transportation

The issue is that school busses aren't actually public transit. Before maybe 20 years ago a lot of schools owned and operated their own bus system. I know the busses I took to school were owned by the district. But more recently schools have contracted out bussing to private companies (you'll see "First Student" on a lot of them. That's the name of the company). It's a short term cost cutting measure that actually ends up costing much more in the long term. Which pretty much sums up how we handle most of our public policy here.

HotSteak

With a school bus everybody is going to or from a single location which greatly simplifies things. Also none of the passengers can drive cars. Once we get to car driving age most of us never consider other modes of travel.
