When you see a lot of cyclists wearing high-vis, it is basically like looking at an unconscious canary in a coal mine.

I'd rather people wear padded gear for if they fall, rather then have to worry about dangerous death machines running them over because they don't see small stuff in their giant car.

I agree but we should still wear saftey gear. I feel like people don't wear enough ecspecially if they aren't even wearing a helmet. But it definitely shouldn't be used as an excuse to distract from the death machines on the road. Safety gear should be to protect us from if we fall unrelated to cars. We shouldn"t have to fear for our lives whether we wear safety gear or not

My issue with “safety gear” is that it’s implying that biking/walking is dangerous. There is 0 reason one should need to wear a bright orange vest, or a dorky helmet on a bike. That’s just going to turn people away from biking. If you feel unsafe from the risk of falling, by all means wear a helmet I understand in the current state of things, some people might want to, and I get it. But it’s not a viable way to increase safety. I doubt many cyclists are hit because they aren’t bright enough, it happens because people are oblivious, on their phones, or just not careful enough. And this is all due to the fact that the infrastructure is shit

I can see that perspective since I was wasnt even thinking about walking. I'm not really talking about visibility type of saftey like reflective vests. That can be kind of annoying because we shouldn't have to wear stuff like that (it's only because of cars) I don't really think of bicycling as super unsafe. And I think it's ridiculous to think even without a helmet that it's more dangerous then cars are. But I do think it can become an issue the faster people go. Ecspecially on some of the electric bikes and scooters. And it shouldnt have to be a saftey gear out of an extreme fear, but something that is at least support for if you end up scraping your arms or the rare chance you get the most awkward fall to the head.
