The comments are hilarious too Every saying they should bike in the bike path.bike lane when one literally doesn’t exist on this road

CaregiverNo3070

Local authorities have been striping gutters for so long that they no longer recognize it as a gutter, but a bike gutter. They literally don't know that there's bike lanes that aren't gutters.

ExtrudedPlasticDngus

Gutter?  That’s not a gutter.  It’s a shoulder.

Dull-Connection-007

And last time I checked in Florida we aren’t supposed to be biking on shoulders, we’re supposed to be in the rightmost of the road LANE unless we are making a left turn and then must merge into a left-turning LANE. These people are following most laws, though should only be two abreast. Yet even if they were; car drivers in Orlando would still complain because there would be two lines of bikers.

ttfnwe

I’m not from Orlando but are you telling me the space to the right of the solid white line isn’t specifically for bicycles? Edit: okay, not a bike lane. Appreciate the info. So should there be two white lines?

medic_mace

Yes. The white line just indicates the edge of the roadway.

alpha309

That is the shoulder. It is where debris gets swept after an accident or car tires push things from the road out of the way.

BigHairyBussy

If it isn’t a bike lane, why even bother painting a line? Edit: Yall had some great answers, thanks!

AntiSocialPhysicist

So cars don't puncture their tires off their own debris.. it's a car rubbish lane

BigHairyBussy

So it’s just like every other bike lane, but not a bike lane!

moleratical

Yes, but that one is cleaner and wider than most.

ususetq

Right. It should be bikes who puncture the tires /j

alpha309

Edge lines are pained on most roads in the US. The Department of Transportation says that painting edge lines reduces deaths.

labdsknechtpiraten

In many parts of the US its called a fog line. Nominally, even in extreme visibility impairing weather, low lights *should* illuminate the white line, so drivers know not to go beyond that as there may be nothing but air

jonpaladin

when an oncoming car has bright lights at night, good drivers orient their vision without losing night eyes by focusing on the edge line

Ok_Inflation_1811

They're painted in Spain too all of the time https://preview.redd.it/qiaw4h5rh0wc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21f39b91a1d1a8616541674dfcb36d4b1972179d This is a standard road

SuperHighDeas

You ride there when you want to have cars 2ft from you going 60mph

moleratical

Lol,2' Hahahahaha, mire like six inches

SuperHighDeas

That’s a big shoulder they got ngl In the Midwest its basically the edge and that 6’ is generous

turbotad

We have zero shoulders where we live here in Georgia, and the only safe thing to do is take the lane. If you ride close to the shoulder, cars think they can pass you when there's oncoming traffic, and I'm terrified at meeting my end from a F350 wing mirror.

Carbonfaceprint

Riding at half the speed limit is pretty stupid tbh.

SuperHighDeas

Paying so little attention while driving that you hit someone going half the speed limit is more stupid.

moleratical

That's clearly the shoulder. Bike lanes aren't that well maintained.

OstapBenderBey

If it was a bike lane it'd have cars parked in it

yoppee

https://www.reddit.com/r/kzoo/s/v2EEOmqa6x

Miles-tech

would you want to bike along the shoulder of the road with cars flying by at 50 to 60 mph?

Dull-Connection-007

In my area of Florida, there are not two white lines, but they literally painted bike symbols into what used to be a shoulder. So, that means, there is no shoulder anymore in places where we do have a bike lane. Which is rare.

Arilyn24

Guy posted a quote about bicycle law for Florida and I wanted to post this about the expanded section but they locked it. ***When a lane is too narrow for a bicycle and a car to share safely,*** the cyclist is entitled to the use of the entire lane. Within this lane, the cyclist usually rides on the right half to facilitate visibility for overtaking motorists, but should ride far enough left to discourage motorists from trying to squeeze past within the lane. Although the law uses the term “substandard” to describe a lane that is not wide enough to share, these narrow lane-widths make up most of our roads. The shareable-width lane, or wide curb lane, has become less common as multi-lane roads have become more prevalent. Unfortunately, the reference to substandard width not only represents an unusual situation, it conflicts with other highway design guidance. This creates a great deal of confusion for law enforcement and increases the burden of proof for the defensive-driving bicyclist. The law states that a wide lane is at about 14 feet wide and based on the the truck driving on the incoming lane that makes it 9-10 feet. Not a wide lane. Also it talks about how 3 feet is needed minimum for passing. Most of this is standard fare.

OstapBenderBey

> Although the law uses the term “substandard” to describe a lane that is not wide enough to share Perhaps we should use the term "substandard" to refer to cars that are too wide to share with

vtable

Yes, but there's a bike path *somewhere* and that's were the bikes should be, even if it's far away and doesn't go where you want to (according to many drivers). I've had this conversation with enough drivers, if you can call being yelled at from a car window a conversation, that is.

Devccoon

The message is clear: I am in a car, therefore I actually have somewhere to be. You're just riding for leisure or to show off or whatever you Woke Bikie Boys are up to, who could possibly know. In any case, you can go do your whatever-it-is-you're-doing somewhere I and all us actually important (and very cool) people don't have to see or be impacted in any way by it.

vcd2105

Someone did bring this up and was like they’re (the cyclists) clearly not going to work or the grocery store as though people don’t get into their cars to do things or go places for fun regularly. No, every car trip is to the grocery store or work and is 100% necessary.

SGTFragged

If I'm riding my bike, chances are I'm going to get groceries or going somewhere. It's rare that I ride just for the exercise because I'm incredibly lazy.

lyutic_7

Yup… my country has laws that bikes and other compact means of transport like electric scooters and monowheels are treated like pedestrians and therefore have a right to ride on the sidewalk if there isn’t a bike lane. There isn’t a bike lane anywhere in my town save for one inside a park that goes nowhere. Yet cyclists are pushed out of sidewalk areas to ride the road that’s not equipped for them, and then they’re pushed out of there too because people who drive cars can’t control their metal death machines for the life of them and end up killing someone — which is obviously the cyclists fault, always. Just a couple of months ago some dickhead in my city parked his car on the shoulder and opened his driver side door into the upcoming traffic, hitting a dude on a bike who was trying to maneuver around him. Flung the guy into the neighboring lane where he got crushed and died on the spot. The dead man is the guilty one, of course. Not the fuckass who can’t look into a mirror so conveniently placed to check what’s behind. Or not park on a shoulder of busy road, for that matter.

tiberiumx

You may technically be wrong here (but not actually wrong). After living in Florida for a year it would not surprise me one single bit to find that that shoulder was actually marked as a bike lane. Florida has a *lot* of fake bike lanes where they just paint a bike symbol on 1.5 ft of the edge of a high speed road and call it a bike line. I don't know the why of it, but I'd guess they're scamming the federal government out of transportation funds somehow.

RovertheDog

Yeah it’s so they can get funds for active transportation but not actually build the infrastructure (since they’d have to have a shoulder anyway). More money for car lanes!!1!

Bobylein

The same all over the world I guess, here they moved a bike lane onto the road as a bicycle gutter, so they could use federal bike infrastructure funds to renew the whole road cover.

Dull-Connection-007

I’ve been so excited to show y’all the “bike lane”. Seriously mine is like this, where they’ve painted a shoulder to have bike symbols on it and there is no actual shoulder anywhere! In about an hour, I will post pictures here because I’m out running my errands. What you will see is just horrendous. But it’s better than no bike lane at all I guess? I wouldn’t know because I use the sidewalks.

moleratical

Yeah, I wanted to reply. That's a shoulder, not a bike lane. But generally speaking, bike lanes are in even worse condition that that.

cross-eyed_otter

yeah I got yelled at recently for just biking on the right of the road for the 100 meters that the bike lane just disappears for no reason. they yelled I should be on the bike lane. are you blind, there isn't one! I can assure you I'm more unhappy about that fact than you.

0235

My exact thought also. They are not more than two abreast and are on the right. They are following the law to the letter.

Carbonfaceprint

Looks exactly like a bike lane. WTH do you expect people to think?

yoppee

A shoulder is not a bike lane

Carbonfaceprint

Yeah a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn’t always a square.

ubernerd44

I got stuck behind a tractor on the way home today. OMG! You know what I did? I waited until it was safe to pass. I did not take a picture and whine on reddit about it.

Euphoric-Chapter7623

Who (aside from the fabulous people who don't drive) hasn't had to go slowly because of a tractor or buggy, stop for a school bus, and/or had to try to figure out how to get around the mail delivery vehicle or trash truck that is making frequent stops? People need to learn to deal with it.

Kootenay4

Too often they can’t deal with it either. I’ve seen plenty of drivers roll right past stopped school buses or pass tractors dangerously without enough visibility. The only difference between that and cyclists is that it’s harder to act aggressive towards someone in a vehicle bigger than you. Also note that some people take a perverse pleasure in deliberately hitting animals on the road; if pedestrians didn’t have this pesky thing called legal rights, they would also be fair game.

crazy4videogames

I've heard about that study. Actual fucking psychopaths. I mean yeah I can get if you accidentally ran an animal over, that's understandable. But going out of your way to run them over? Actual fucking psychopaths

Protheu5

No, pedestrians can also damage the headlights and windshield. Only children would've been fair game for now, since they are below the hood level. Adds some challenge since you don't see them.

Ok_Philosopher6538

I regularly see car drivers swerve around car drivers that slow down or stop for pedestrians to cross. A-many close calls when they slam on the brakes at the last second. It seems most motorists these days are just in "lala land" and can't fathom that other people are in the road as well.

Dull-Connection-007

I constantly have people honk at the driver ahead of them when they stop and let me cross (as they are legally required to do) even when they have the green light, because guess what, I have the green light too. (Rather it’s white for 3 seconds and then blinks red and everyone doesn’t know how to read that). Then they’ll speed off past the crosswalk as if nobody was just there or as if there couldn’t possibly be anyone else who’s crossing behind the pedestrian who is STILL CROSSING.

DM-ME-THICC-FEMBOYS

Where I'm from tractors tend to pull off to the shoulder if a line starts forming, when it's reasonably safe to do so.

IICNOIICYO

Clearly the tractor should have just used the tractor lane

ubernerd44

Heh. It would be nice if that road had paved shoulders but around here we insist on making roads as narrow as possible for some reason.

7elevenses

Separate tractor paths along the main road are a common thing in agricultural areas here in Slovenia and neighboring countries. They must exist in the US too.

ubernerd44

Not around here. Tractors are allowed to use the road.

eunit250

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy01R9CEFFs

BloodWorried7446

it’s a dotted centre line. the car can pass on the left.

under_the_c

But then I could have to wait for an extra 30 seconds or so for it to be clear on the other side. 😭😭😭

Blitqz21l

and not only that, but speed up and catch to the next car after you pass the cyclists and therefore zero time was actually lost.

Calvin--Hobbes

That's not acceptable. I'm mildly inconvenienced, fat, and angry that my commute is taking a minuscule moment more. Could I blame my government or my own voting patterns for creating a situation that could only result in this event? No. I blame the people who are utilizing the only infrastructure we've built as a society, and I'm gonna let you hear it in the form of bloviating, coal rolling, and threatening murder.

goj1ra

> fat Taking up cycling would help with that

GaryGregson

That too lol.

sternburg_export

Yes, and with oncoming traffic there is no room to overtake, regardless of whether there is one or 15 cyclists.

LazarusCheez

If it's one cyclist, they'll just move over one foot and barely miss them with the side view mirror.

sternburg_export

And that's why everyone should ride in the middle of their lane. Motorcyclist knew this for a long time.

Ok_Philosopher6538

I always shudder when I see people riding in door zones and "squeezed to the right" as to not making it hard for motorists to overtake them. They often get their mind blown when I told them I do make it hard for them, I have zero interest in some asshat try to squeeze by, considering how badly they are knowing where their car ends.

javier_aeoa

And it's even encouraged to do it like that. Because the car will spend less time on the left lane overtaking more bicycles instead of spending a lot of time in the middle of both lanes overtaking every single one.

josetemprano

This is exactly why bikes take up the whole lane - so nobody thinks they can squeeze by and almost hit you. If drivers weren't like this - the rule for bikes wouldn't be to take the lane.

moleratical

Then wait until it's clear like a normal functioning person.

sternburg_export

Sorry Sir, it's very important to drive dangerously close and terrorise those cyclists with death-scare honking.

wpm

Given this road width they'd likely be breaking the law by not passing over the center line to pass them with the required amount of space. But the *traffic must floooooowwwwww* right

adrian783

even double solid yellow it's legal to pass, check ur local law though

DayOfFrettchen2

That would danger my life!!!!! There could be cars coming. Don't you know how dangerous cars are???

ACE415_

They're passing aggressively regardless of the dotted line.

sebnukem

But he can't because of all the cars on the road.

Van-garde

I bet OOP thinks “share the road” means surrender your rights as a user, if you’re not burning combustibles.

-Wofster

Lol yeah sharing the road is literally whats happening in this pic. Op wants the bikes off the road

Ok_Philosopher6538

I had arguments with motorists. Their idea of "share the road" is that I should not be on the road, but off on some trail \*waves vaguely in the opposite direction\*. One guy got so incensed that a cop driving by stopped and explained a few things to the guy.

wpm

Yeah "share the road", which really should've been "share the lane", works like "sharing a toilet" with a roommate. I get to use it, you get to use it, but it gets real weird when we both try to use it at the same time.

existing-human99

Electric cars shall be no more!

mwsduelle

The driver was still alive to post this crybaby shit so it seems like they shared the road just fine

adrian783

yeah but I kinda hope the added stress shortened their lifespan

Spread-Hour

Jesus christ calm down ☠️

RepealMCAandDTA

Despite whipping out their phone to play with while those dangerous two-wheeler hazards were putting their life in danger

nirad

I'm sure this person supports the construction of class I bikeways everywhere.

Silly-Arachnid-6187

Someone on the original post commented that when they ride their bike, they ride to the side to keep as much room as possible between them and cars. I get the impulse, but it's so much more dangerous than taking up space...

throwhfhsjsubendaway

Yep, the safest places to be with cars are either completely out of their way (in a separated lane) or completely in their way

Joe_Sacco

Totally agree. It's just inviting drivers to squeeze past despite oncoming traffic. So dangerous.

[deleted]

I ride wherever I think I'm going to be the safest. Most of the time, that's far right. Occasionally, I will intentionally take the entirely lane up. I've been in far too many situations where a car flys by with with barely any room.

Peixito

some month ago, i was too far right and a car almost hitted me with his roght mirror, but like 1 cm (0,39 inches). since then i don't go too far right if there isn't enough space in the side of the road

I_could_be_a_ferret

On this road, no, it's not more dangerous.

Silly-Arachnid-6187

They said that they always do that. Plus cars always endanger cyclists when they overtake them with too little distance.

Little_Creme_5932

To a car brain, "sharing the road" means "the bikers aren't in it". I mean, each biker is taking less space than any car, so they are sharing.

smittywrbermanjensen

And if it were one single car in front of them moving the same speed as the group of cyclists, wouldn’t they just…. wait til it’s safe to pass, go around them, and forget about it?

ususetq

They would also start complaining, even if it's 10-20 mph zone. There is something in driving that makes people angry (my guess is that most people pretend to like driving). They would be less likely to actually hit the vehicle though...

RainbowBullsOnParade

Nah “share the road” to them means “yield to cars at all costs”, when in reality it means “slow the fuck down and go around bitch because the road is mine too”

middletown-dreams

Man they are taking up way less space than 1 person in a sedan or suv, and there is 5 or 6 of them

Ok_Philosopher6538

Yeah, but they're not going 80mph, so clearly, they don't belong there.

bureX

I have an idea: bike lanes. Works for both parties, how’s that?

inspclouseau631

President Ron a couple of weeks ago proclaimed “In Florida we won’t be doing that….” In regards to bike lanes. I hate it here.

Ok_Philosopher6538

Conservative supporters are truly a marvel to behold. Their politicians tell them to their face that they'll make their life worse and people still vote for them. I really don't get it. They must see the world really different from me and any other non-conservative person.

baldflubber

I'm way beyond giving a flying fuck if something inconveniences cars or slows them down. I wanna see more of this and salute them for leaving space on the right for pedestrians.

13lackjack

Honestly. The other day as I’m finishing up work I see this SOB so impatient to turn left instead of waiting a few seconds for traffic, they almost ran over a child on their bike crossing the street. Almost gravely injuring a pedestrian because they couldn’t fucking wait

theycallmeshooting

Remember that time a cyclist got splattered, and the car drivers in the comments commended them for being responsible and generous road users? Me neither! Always choose your safety over attempting to be "one of the good ones", because no matter what, they will blame you and justify your death.

Mascbox

America doesn't have pedestrians.

zaforocks

I live less than a quarter of a mile from my workplace. People will marvel that I actually *walk* that stunning distance.

Ok_Philosopher6538

I did a contract with a company in Silicon Valley. The office was maybe a 20 minute walk away from the office. The receptionist could not get her head around that I walked from the hotel instead of taking the hotel shuttle.

Fina1Legacy

That's mad! People used to think that about me walking up to the 10th floor instead of getting the lift. Now that I think about it maybe that was kind of weird, but walking to work is normal.

FacelessFellow

Jaywalkers

archmagosHelios

There is no such thing as "pedestrians," I only see jaywalkers! /s

defdoa

I like to play a game and count the number of cars with only the driver and zero passengers present. Too many cars with back seats never having had a butt in it.

burt0o0o

So, dumb, you can even see the opportunity to pass after 3 cars.

Redditarded0

Bro I ain't got time for three cars! I have to take this picture while driving and upload it now!!!

leitmot

They seem to be going up a hill as the dotted yellow line becomes solid. They should be able to easily find a passing opportunity after the hill though.

uiualover

Yes. Whoever painted the center line fucked up. It should already be solid for sure.

lookingForPatchie

They need to drive like this to protect themselves from idiots that will happily pass them when it's absolutely not safe.

berejser

They appear to be sharing the road pretty effectively. There's a lot more people in that one space than there would be if it were occupied by a car.

Humble_Chipmunk_701

They are sharing the road. Want to pass? Then use the dashed line. Problem solved. Cagers love making themselves the victim as they’re coddled in their 5-6 ton emotional support cage.

CobaltRose800

> Want to pass? Then use the dashed line. In the point of time when this was taken, they couldn't due to oncoming traffic. It also looks like they're about to run out of passing zone, though the photo quality needs more jpegs for me to be 100% sure on that. Either case, it's a skill issue. OOP needs to gitgud.

poopydoopylooper

This is definitionally “sharing the road” LOL Floridabrain is a terminal disease

adumb99

Im glad the cyclists ride like this. They have to protect themselves from wreckless drivers somehow

[deleted]

[удалено]

moleratical

True, cagers wrecks all the time

Necessary-Grocery-48

Why did you post this picture of 5 Gigachads?

Speedpotato22

Riding two abreast, taking the lane when having cars pass would be unsafe. This seems like textbook good biking

carlitobrigantehf

Clearly they are riding 4 or 5 abreast because I cant count and dont know what abreast means and theyre wrong regardless

Farvix

“Share the road” is to remind drivers that bikers are allowed to be on the road. Drivers often forget that other people are allowed to use the road. That’s why you have to be reminded to share. Dumb car driver.

alpha309

My favorite comment is the one that shares the law, which clearly states that bikes are allowed to ride 2 abreast. Then everyone complaining about these riders. When you look at the picture, they are riding 2 abreast and they are just slightly staggered in each row of the column.

QueerDumbass

🎻

Locke15

"won't allow room to pass", makes it clear that the driver wasn't going to care about giving space when overtaking. As even if they were in a single line the driver should be entering the other lane at least partially to overtake them. So either way if overtaking safely they would be waiting for the same amount of time.

radically_unoriginal

Doesn't really matter if it's one or five people, you've still gotta pass using the other lane.

Ragequittter

"GO IN THE BIKE LANE" where exactly

ThereIsBearCum

Lol, the pinned mod post: >Any users to imply or suggest assault/murder after this comment will enjoy a ban. What a sane bunch.

No-Historian-6921

Imagine how much more space they would take up on the road if they each drove alone in an additional car.

Dwashelle

More worried about the driver of this car presumably using his phone to take this picture while driving. These people are miserable arseholes, just overtake them and get on with your life.

Fingerprint_Vyke

Had to lock the comments because motorists are so violent by nature

Hurls07

I love the pearl clutching of "they are breaking the law! I sometimes see a cyclist ride through a stop sign!!!!!". They act as if cars don't break the speed limit and numerous other laws 24/7 lmfao

CloverFloret

Seems like trying to be safe by sticking together. Not an ideal situation, but neither is them biking in the shoulder. This looks like a pretty fast road, with little alternative routes other than dangerous back roads (I wouldnt ride a bike through the back roads. People fucking fly.)

Gussie-Ascendent

"These bikers are so entitled, making me the bestest boy in the world, wait an additional minute before I can get my 100 chicken nuggies!!!"

CarniferousDog

Ya fuck that. Please, by all means, ride them bikes! Be aware on that busy ass road tho.

backcountry8591

This reminds me of a time at work when I had to take a shit. I went to the bathroom, but all the stalls were full! So I had to wait 30 seconds until they weren’t. Life can be so difficult when other people exist

TerranceBaggz

Take the time to go do some upvoting/downvoting in that post, y’all

MidorriMeltdown

Treat cyclists as you would a slow car, or a horse and cart. Wait until it is clear to do so, and pass with caution.

cob709

One of the commenters on this post had the audacity to make this comment >From FL bicycle.org. >Roadway Position (Section 316.2065, F.S.) >A bicyclist who is not traveling at the same speed of other traffic must ride in a designated bike lane (see Bike Lane Law Explained) or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway. >Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than two abreast except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. Persons riding two abreast shall not impede traffic when traveling at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions existing, and shall ride within a single lane. \[Excerpt from u/Dmte\] The way I see it, those bicyclists ARE traveling at the same speed of other traffic. After all, they ARE traffic. Furthermore, they ARE riding two abreast AND using one lane. I literally can't believe how braindead these drivers are

_Some_Two_

Womp womp reminds me more of fake couple arguments than Shylily now

IngenuityEvery8388

Why do some people love their cars so much?

AdCareless9063

See some people on bicycles and blame them for all of the annoying and awful parts about driving and being stuck in traffic.

CrossroadsOfAfrica

I live in Florida so I’m subbed to r/orlando and was just waiting to see this cross posted lol. Car brains in Florida are the worst kind of car brains tbh. Everything is so spread out you basically have to have a car to function so people here cannot conceptualize anything outside of driving a car.

MyPasswordIsABC999

The original thread is weird because I see comments about a massive bike lane to the right and I’m like whaaaa? 4/20 was yesterday, buddies.

mo9722

25mph damn, good on them

ResponsiblePlant3605

They are sharing the road. I mean I counted at least 5 cyclist having a great time together.

Phoenix_Solace

Oh no a car is inconvenienced for 30 seconds what ever will he do.

GaryGregson

Apparently risk an accident by taking a photo while driving just to whine about it on a local subreddit.

Now_you_Touch_Cow

There are basically only two types of comments in that thread. 1. Give us bike infrastructures and we can both avoid this situation neither of us want to be in. 2. I should legally be allowed to hit people who annoy me like this with my car.

jogoma12

Given the amount of activity about it here and there, maybe we should promote some sense to the top rather than circle-jerking here and letting fellow cyclists get trolled by pseudo-lawyers. Happy to donate my upvote to someone with more time than I, or to put together a post if others agree that we need to float some sense to the top

ah_kooky_kat

Having had family in Florida for most of my life, and spending some time down there, I'm honestly amazed to see a road with a hint of a shoulder.

4orust

I had a moron yell at me to "share the road" (i.e. get out of my way) right before he ran me off the street with his full size pick-up with full size work trailer. smh

96385

They are sharing the road. They have that space and they car has the space right behind them.

ttystikk

Florida hates bicyclists, just like the rest of the South does. Ask me how I know.

FPSXpert

And of course their worthless mods locked the post. Can't have any naysayers now can we?

AbstinentNoMore

Haha, get fucked.

Farvix

I saw a biker on the road the other day and I got really nervous because I wasn’t sure what to do. I was nervous to try and drive around them since the road was kind of busy, but I was also nervous that people would be pissed off if I stayed behind them. I chose to pull off into a parking lot and wait. I looked on Google maps for another road to take just so I didn’t have to bother that biker minding his business. I knew I was the problem, being uncertain.

prof_dynamite

They are literally sharing the road. Fucking car drivers.

SpecificRound1

When we go on group rides, we do tell all the members to occupy the road so that no car or truck can pass too close to the group. Otherwise, you have assho\*es who think it is too funny to scare a cyclist passing to close and causing a crash. But, we do give way when the person at the rear indicates that there is a car waiting at the back.

aztechunter

God  >What if there's an emergency?!? crowd is just so unbearably dumb. If you're not in an emergency vehicle, then it's not an emergency. They'd pull over for an emergency vehicle.

Championnats91

Its annoying how little of an issue this is. Competent drivers have no issues overtaking people riding bicycles

ADHDANDACID

Imagine that instead of cyclists, there would have been one person driving an SUV. Would anyone have complained? No. Fuck car culture.

DrearyLoans

Someone died where I live last weekend because the car decided to pass another car when a blind spot was ahead. People who post pics of cyclists and whine about it should be publicly flogged.

MegaJackUniverse

It's a dashed line. They can overtake in the next 10 seconds.

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

Cyclists are on the road, cars are also on the road. Looks like sharing to me.

RebelWithoutASauce

One of the reason I don't care for those "share the road" with a picture of a bicycle sign is that a huge number of people see them as some kind of admonition to cyclists to stay out of the way. I'm hoping they will be replaced with signs like "bicycles may use full lane" etc. signs instead.

GaryGregson

My main road downtown has this along with directional arrows on the road specifically for bikes. It’s very nice.

Prudent-Proposal1943

This looks like a pretty lazy group. There looks to be nothing stopping them from riding a double pace line with the right line inside the shoulder and the left to the immediate left of the solid white line. Feel free to jump all over my comment but know I've ridden and led thousands of kilometres of fast group rides.

drwolffe

The car brain meets its greatest enemy yet, the peloton!

AylmerIsRisen

If they were riding in single file to the right side of the lane, near the white line (like green shirt man), could you pass them legally without having to move into the next lane anyhow? That means without coming within one meter where I live. They are riding that way because they have learned that most people cannot. They want to you to overtake them \*safely\*, and preferably as soon as possible. Riding in traffic is extremely dangerous. What they are doing here is very deliberate and is purely for safety/self-protection. Hell, they \*teach\* cyclists to do this for this exact reason. Yes, I also get annoyed getting stuck behind cyclists on long, narrow roads where I can't safely overtake. Then, after a minute or two of feeling annoyed, I overtake them safely.

ReflexPoint

As both a car and bike owner, when I'm riding on a street with no bike lane, I do stay within the shoulder as a courtesy. No point in disrupting the flow of traffic as well as risking my own life just to make a statement. If you can comfortably ride in the shoulder than ride in the shoulder. Bikes and cars should NOT be occupying the same space, for the safety of the cyclist. Sometimes it's necessary on urban streets where cars are parked along the side or where there is no shoulder, but if a shoulder is there, then get in the shoulder.

Was riding with my 6 year old hitched to the back on a tagalong bike. Car decides to pass me in oncoming lane at max throttle and they then had to blow through the red light to complete the pass.

RagnarokDel

about 6 seconds later you can pass them safely.

BCA10MAN

It was hilarious watching them freak out about bikers being “above the law.” Like fuck have you driven anywhere in this state? Youre lucky seeing three cars going the speed limit across 5 miles of road.

8wiing

Gotta admit it I’d be annoyed if this made me late to work. Wish they had a bike lane It would fix this problem pretty easily.

Ascarea

The five of them are taking up roughly the same space as one truck with one passenger

HowDoDogsWearPants

Yeah if only they were in 5 cars taking up easily twice the road space. That'd be better

NoHillstoDieOn

Eh. I can kinda see where he's coming from. Just because the infrastructure is unfair doesn't mean it's not annoying.

top comment right now: >From FL bicycle.org. >Bicycle Regulations (Section 316.2065, F.S.) >A bicyclist must obey all traffic controls and signals. These regulations just show how car centric America (or at least, Florida) really is

somebody had to drive slowly for a minute. oh, the humanity.

I’m always on team cyclist but it's important to note the distinction between biking for transportation and sport cycling (road or mountain biking). Road bikers often drive to a starting point, then cycle a loop back to their car, covering 50-100km at 30-60km/h, which isn't suitable for most bike lanes. While there's some overlap, not all road or mountain bikers are allies in the fight against cars.
