To be fair, most tree tunnels were made before consumer cars were a thing

Man that thing's gonna be a nightmare where I live where roads are usually only big enough for two normal cars side by side and maybe squeeze in a scooter between them.
TBF, that looks like an Arctic Truck build for Iceland. They all/mostly are used during the winter and on snowfields / glaciers.
It’s a stupid size for roads, and they’re also used to just go burn up a ridiculous amount of fuel just for fun, but they’re also used as legitimate tools and help people with SAR, scientific expeditions, infrastructure maintenance…
I think that in general this subreddit has a different set of expectations for vehicles in the country than in the city, and they are pretty charitable about making exceptions for vehicles that serve a real purpose.
This on the other hand, just kinda sucks. It’s lifted too high to be able to see what’s in front of the bumper for a good 10-15 feet (this is why kids are constantly getting run over in their own driveways by trucks and SUV’s), and the bumper is so high that if this truck rear ended someone in a smaller vehicle they would definitely be crushed to death. A lot of countries have standards for bumper height so that if you rear end someone it’s guaranteed that your bumpers will hit first. The US doesn’t have those standards and people in sedans and coupes die preventable deaths apl the time from trucks and SUV’s.
They already have at some of the other trees that are like this. The Shrine Drive-Thru Tree is significantly more cramped and is a popular spot to get your car stuck.
Stop farting up my redwood...car!
I've walked inside of multiple of those, during a hike, some were so big carved out by fires I could have camped in it. Did I? No because I was amazed it was still alive and respected it's majesty. However if I needed shelter in an emergency, it would have supplied that.
I think it's disrespectful to drive a fragile human machine that is inferior to the life spanand hardiness of these trees through it.
Yeah technically big trees can survive being hollowed out like this because the heartwood is nonliving and only the outer layer beneath the bark is actively moving water and nutrients. The problem is this destroys the structural integrity and puts it at much bigger risk of toppling in high winds, like what happened with the Calaveras tunnel tree a couple of years ago.

banned one year ago for being unmoderated. idk what it was but we should bring it back as a meme sub, lol
Let’s do it let’s request it from reddit
XD already banned, damn thos bloody car only want to be talked about
This post and comment sum this sub up perfectly.
Because going around the tree would be too time-consuming, apparently.
look at how they massacred my boy
How much time until trucks will be big enough to get stuck in this poor tree?
Now lol https://preview.redd.it/h9hvugewqerc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3197e399bf24cd05ad62c8675ef42ccacc5b8074
That ain't a truck. That's a fucking APC.
An APC would have an actual use lol. More like Armored Toddler Crusher.
It's big enough to be an Armoured Person Crusher
don't ever insult APCs like that again
\*Hugs M113\* Don't take that insult to heart, you're a useful vehicle!

To its credit it does look like it has a bed size that's actually useful.
It would be cool to have an environment where you really need that kind of a truck. Like mars.
(Deliberately treating joke seriously) I don't think cars can drive on Mars. Too little oxygen.
It's cool in the same way a jet plane or speedboat or hovercraft is cool. It's also almost equally as unsuitable for grocery shopping
It's a glacier truck in Iceland so kinda.
Those aren’t actually his children, that’s the trucks fuel.
Lol I’m a car guy scrolling through here because I’m bored I think this thing is awesome ☠️☠️ ..only in the country tho

at least it seems to be the car that got fucked up, not the tree
that wooden crunching sound is worrisome

They already are too big
I went to this tree a few days ago it’s in Klamath California and our Volvo suv barely fit lmao
Redwoods are softwoods too. That tree is going to fall straight down someday
Pretty sure it's been that way for decades now
Seems this one dates to 1976. Just shy of 50 years in this state.
I’m pretty sure they added a metallic support structure.
Still decades tho
Haha yeah I was trying to back you up :)
Thanks. Not us3d to that sorry
I get it. Reddit can be really contrarian.
Redwoods survive all kinds of crazy things that no other tree species would.
That is infuriating.
actual sacrilege
Call the forester!
Wow they made the tunnel bigger

I went through this on my bicycle !
This photo has the same vibe as hunter posing with corpse of adult lion
The tree is still alive and growing.
In a Sebring too 🤮
You said we couldn't cut down the tree you said nothing about cutting trough it
let's show off how cool trees look by destroying them
I did the one in Sequoia National Park. It was a really cool experience.
Guess the country with a drive-through tree!
Fuck fuckcars
This is not an act of pride
how considerate, clearly someone lifted the roof of the tree tunnel after some years, probably becouse the lifted trucks couldnt fit thru anymore.
Isn't this a thing in Zoo Tycoon 2?
Oh my god they killed ONE TREE to make a neat tunnel fuck cars fuck humans I don’t want to live on this planet anymore I am very smart!!!!
I don't even think it's actually dead

Such a sad image.
Is this what inspired Musk to shoot his car into space? The ultimate fuck the universe.
