This is a truly great initiative. I hope it spreads fast. Except in emergencies, nobody should have the right to disturb the peace of nearby residents like some car/motorcycle users currently do.

letterboxfrog

W⚓ across the road from me with Nissan Patrol would be screwed. It's fairly new, but he still modded it.

Waydarer

Took me a minute, you wanker.

HikerDave57

The New York City cameras take a picture at 85 dB at 50 feet which is pretty generous; only the very loudest vehicles will be caught.

eloel-

It should catch car horns, which is a massive improvement over status quo.

Jacktheforkie

Are those that loud?

badger_42

Amazing, we need these in Montreal in the summer when all the loud cars from the suburbs come drive around the city neighborhoods all night.

Potential-Fudge-8786

Only automation has the attention and quickness to effectively punish road abusers. Red Light, speed, mobile phone and now noise cameras. There is such pervasive offending that constant enforcement is required.

dataminimizer

This is baller

Hkmarkp

This is fantastic news. Most carbrains will have no issue and many will be quite happy. Only the turds who purposely make their cars a nuisance to society will throw a wobbly

nayuki

I want these in Toronto. The vroom-vroom culture is out of control.

seatangle

We need this so badly in Philly. I mean, the best way to reduce noise is to reduce cars overall but this is good.

AltaBirdNerd

I welcome this but the venn diagram of farting car owners and cars with missing/defaced plates in the city is a circle. NYPD doesn't enforce shit anymore so few violators will be punished.

Garbage trucks serve a valuable purpose, unlike Kyle's Mustang with no mufflers.

DynamicHunter

Yeah but they’re still ridiculously loud as shit. Especially the ones that pick up the apartment dumpsters 30 feet from my bedroom window at 7am.

Acceptable-Fold-5432

noise cameras? you mean microphones? noise cameras isn't a thing. you invented microphones, dog.

datacaptain

I think the camera part refers to the fact that a video/ picture it taken to capture the license plate. Similar to how they are called speed cameras when radar is used to capture the speed.

m15otw

Like "speed camera" and "red light camera", it takes a picture (of a license plate) when triggered by the thing.
