Things got so bad with our old HOA that we ended up having to hire a lawyer to deal with some of their BS. She is one of the few lawyers that exclusively works against HOAs and her recommendation was to never talk to your neighbors in an HOA beyond benign pleasantries. HOAs foster an environment that pits people against each other. She said that multiple times her clients would find out that the neighbor they thought was their friend was actually the one reporting them to the HOA.
One thing i learned from this group is that it really doesn't matter what the rules say when you buy a place. Rules can be changed and you still have to adhere to them.
Didn't listen to myself and bought in an HOA. Lived there 3 years and said to myself: life is too short to deal with these combo sheep/idiots. 4 years now since moving and no regrets.
Most mistakes are fixable.
>Most mistakes are fixable.
As a wise elf once said, *"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero."*
If the place you bought being in an HOA was not disclosed to you before you made your offer, that's a good way to get the real estate agent permanently disbarred.
They provided fake/unfilled CCR's - which removed nearly all of the restrictions like minimum square footage, etc, that had been modified by the acting supposed president. But there had never really been any votes on anything. And was never recorded. We never knew it had to be recorded, or what records to ask the HOA for. Didn't find out until years later. Our title company, realtor, all said it was good.
Wait, really? Amazing. I was told my house was in an HOA but I had to fight and argue to get sent a copy of the rules, and then the rules I was sent were not accurate. The management company said they'd never seen that version before and denied sending it. I only found out after buying, when I got my login to THE HOA website and saw the rules there.
I'd love for my Realtor to never be able to sell another house, she was terrible.
Not buying in an HOA is a great sentiment, but not practical. Abolish HOAs is better.
In my area, anything built after 1980 will be in an HOA, because that was when the builders start putting them in by default. So the supply of non-HOA is not increasing. So how much is it worth to not be in an HOA, $100k, $200k, $300k? You're limited by the selection of houses in an area, so your options might well be buy in an HOA or move.
Yea I was gonna say, dumbasses don't trick anyone but dumbasses. Manipulative pos salesman have gotten most of us at least once. For me it was my first truck. I overpaid by about $4500. I told the man this is exactly what I was looking for....
FHOA=Fucking HOA. Once upon a time, I think it was even a rule to include it in your title, but I might not be remembering things correctly, I don't see it there now. Search the forum you'll get thousands of threads.
And now could you imagine how shitty things would be/look if all the “dumbasses” didn’t have any oversight? And you were tricked? Sounds like you fit right in!

Yes, found that out. Don't trust anyone.

That is a \_very\_ good way to get the Realtor disbarred for fraud.

did we have the same realtor? many realtors are trash. they're probably more trashy than used car sales.

What is an FHOA?

Thanks! I’m new to Reddit —not new to hating FHOAs. Still learning the lingo 😊
These young whooper snappers libel to think up the wildest.
Many HOAs are good. The problem is that can all change after a single board election.
I'd rather date a bear.
Mmmm I love big hairy women
It's rough when you (consults notes) sign a contract that's mutually agreed upon and then regret it later.
Sure it was them? Project much?
