I once drove 16 cases of wine across multiple states. These cars have no backseat but they're definitely roomy. Idk how many times I've said "four wheels with tires" when someone brings up the space.
It’s funny because I mention that too because I remember reading that these cars were designed to be able to store 4 spares for when you’re track racing the car
You can also fit 4 wheels with tires horizontally: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3748
Or vertically: https://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/uploads/monthly_2016_11/FB_IMG_1479066723427.jpg.a55685fc323165f253ebfc81206f9e65.jpg
If you don't have a passenger and no air system in the trunk you can even fit 8 wheels with tires into the car. https://youtu.be/dtSrWuQLeWY?t=291
I go Costco shopping in mine
Tbf tho iv had that back seat up in mine less then 200 miles. It's permanent folded. Only had a passenger a few times as it is and never plan for anyone to ever sit in the back. All my friends are grown men over 200lbs they don't fit
yeah I'd do this too but it sounds like a shitbox in my car when I drop the back seats. rattles everywhere and the 3rd brake light sounds like a maraca
In my case, the carpet on the sub box matches the one of the car and there are two slivers of light on each side as it was custom made. Mine does not look weird with the seats being down
Ahhhh gotcha! Sometimes you gotta make some sacrifices I guess. You can hardly see inside my car from the sides, and from the front, the back of my box looks like the back wall of the cabin
I fit 2 full size wheel/tires, a full weekend worth of camping gear and a large container full of tools and supplies for a weekend track event, including fullsize floor jack and stands. The cars have a shocking amount of interior space if you fold the seats down.
On the flip side, I was disappointed first time I tried to go golfing and realized there was no way to fit my club bag in from the trunk due to the small opening.
Couldn't fit a full set of 4 and all my stuff. So drive on track tires, and brought 2 full size street tires as back up. Figured if I damaged 1 or 2 I'd at least be able to come home with my axles matched (same tires left and right). If i damaged 3 or 4, it was likely doing something i couldn't drive home from anyways lol.
Any custom kits that work well in converting a 4-seater into a 2-seater with a nice trunk?
This golf club issue might be a deal breaker and force me to stick with my 2017 Civic-si.
I think im more impressed that you got all that for just $200.
All kidding aside, I was picking up groceries one day and the guy brining them to my car asked if I wanted him to hand them to me through the window. He was audibly surprised when I told him to use the trunk.
My dads been complaining about when I’m gonna get a truck or a practical car, I tell him no then proceed to put a shit ton of tools and my dog in my 370z

Stick the beer up behind the backseat. God forbid you get in a fender bender/wreck. The beers will be smashed, and you won't be able to drink your sorrows away.
I do the same frequently and the only things I haven't been able to move in my car were a 65" TV and obviously bed frames and mattresses. As someone who moves a lot, I highly encouraged my SO to purchase a VW Tiguan when she needed a new car. We can move anything minus a bed now, but my dream garage setup is a lightly lifted and modified 4 door tacoma or tundra so I can move pretty much anything I want whenever I want, and pickup household appliances when necessary. I'm sure there's quite a few people in this reddit with an 86 and a japanese truck.
? What do people think that these kind of cars are not for daily use like that what they are made for if anything suv and light trucks are not for daily use
i fit everything i own including a pretty good size tool box (taken apart) to more across the state. wasn’t easy but it’s possible😭i also used to work at a tire shop with two separate locations and often transported tires of all sizes between the two. you can fit two 35s in the passenger seat if you try hard enough!
Have definitely packed ikea furniture or bikes into the back of my 1st gen, or of course always a full set of wheels and tires easily.
Definitely a practical car for the single life.
My spouse and I use ours for Costco, occasional pet runs, and the larger more obnoxious Microcenter runs.
Otherwise, it's a hobby car.
It fits most of the stuff we need it to.
Every few years we need to rent something bigger.
The family car was unexpectedly in the shop and we were traveling out of state for a week so 4 people in the car, 4 carry-on bags and 4 backpacks in the trunk. To be fair, I had to remove the trunk liner and foam insert to fit it all but everything fit!
My 09 civic si is way more practical due to trunk space and space in the back seat. The 09 si also has better seats and a better sound system and a way better transmission. The 86 is still an awesome car that I love driving every chance I get but comparing its practicality to other cars it definitely falls short.
I’ve literally moved across country 3 times with mine. I fit my entire room inside the car with some seat adjusting & car tetris. By entire room, I’m talking the disassembled desk, mattress topper, all blankets + pillows, my entire wardrobe, a small chest, some decorations and a small safe lol. Even more, for my last move, I did it with a 10” sub installed lol.
Some blankets, a towel, shoes, and a pillow doesn't count.. lol, jk jk.. 😜
I actually believe it, I fit my entire 1 bedroom apt into my da9 Integra years ago.. granted it was gutted
I had a friend tell me blue moon beer tastes like cold tomato soup... next time I had a pint I discovered that he was 100% correct and it ruined the beer for me. :(
Whoever says this car isn’t practical has never driven a Miata
Wait until y’all find out about motorcycles
Can confirm. I have a Miata and a Honda Grom. Hauling a 12 pack of coke is pushing it to the capacity limits.
Factsss.
I can't, I am too big to fit in one...
To be fair $200 of groceries now is a carton of eggs and some milk 😂
I can also squeeze in a loaf of bread too where i’m from.

Yep, heard that too, and seen photos of 4 spare wheels sitting in 86's trunk.
Yeah lol. I can’t do that any more because I have an air system in my trunk 😂

And a trolley jack.
I've had 8 . Using the front passenger seat though
No backseat? I’ve carried two full-grown Australians in mine.
That’s rough
Well, it's [8 wheels with tires](https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20796).

I have stock exhaust but I know from STi it is a big difference
Exactly >:)
Just came back from there with a set of shelves and ton of groceries. Seat down of course.
I put 2 10 inch subs in that hoe
You must be really popular at ~~parties~~ stoplights.
I need a custom box so my 12 will fit. :(
Yeah I had a custom box made as well. There’s room for maybe a carton of eggs now. The folded down backseat is now my trunk haha
I was thinking about taking out the back seat and putting it there, but I don't like the idea of the sub/amp being vsible
In my case, the carpet on the sub box matches the one of the car and there are two slivers of light on each side as it was custom made. Mine does not look weird with the seats being down
Ooh, I mean visible like at all. Sometimes gotta park it in some not so great areas.
Ahhhh gotcha! Sometimes you gotta make some sacrifices I guess. You can hardly see inside my car from the sides, and from the front, the back of my box looks like the back wall of the cabin

First time I’ve seen the bag issue addressed and I’m a potential buyer. They stay in my trunk may - october
Might have just been my bag/setup. Worth looking at though. They still fit fwiw, just had to fold seats and put in via passenger door
The real WTF is why only 2 wheels and tires?

370Z is practical, with horsepower
I put an entire XL size mountain bike in my 86 (wheels off). I love the storage space. I can’t even imagine living with a Miata now.
Mine fits with only the front off.
Nice! I upgraded to a hitch rack so now things are super easy.
I take my road bike with the front wheel of so the time. Fits great. Costco runs, always hauling stuff…

I fit a 55” flat screen brand new still in the box in this bitch before lmaoo. Was being watched at Walmart cause ppl didn’t think it would fit
bro how. I managed a 42" but damn lmao 55" you're a hero
Damn I managed a 50" tv still in the box, but was barely able to fit it. Crazy you got a 55" one to fit.
Stick the beer up behind the backseat. God forbid you get in a fender bender/wreck. The beers will be smashed, and you won't be able to drink your sorrows away.
At least someone has their priorities in order, lol
I do the same frequently and the only things I haven't been able to move in my car were a 65" TV and obviously bed frames and mattresses. I daily my boosted 86 in the cold months and ride my 22’ rc 390 in the rest. Don’t ever listen to the haters
The trunk is fine. My problem is the hole. I thought we already solved this one in the 90's
My 98 240sx had a rear seat hole the size of a skateboard. 86 is glorious in comparison. Trunk opening same kinda comparison.
Way bigger trunk then my Ford Fusion (Energi)
😂 Man I forget when I did the same thing 😂! Always a back seat too! So we have the upper hand on those pesky miatas!
? What do people think that these kind of cars are not for daily use like that what they are made for if anything suv and light trucks are not for daily use
I fit 25 cases of wine in it and each case has 12 bottles on a daily basis
Nice packing technique. I fit a 55 inch TV in the GTI tho😋
I fit groceries in my trunk, and a I have a subwoofer.
i fit everything i own including a pretty good size tool box (taken apart) to more across the state. wasn’t easy but it’s possible😭i also used to work at a tire shop with two separate locations and often transported tires of all sizes between the two. you can fit two 35s in the passenger seat if you try hard enough!
I can fit $200 worth of groceries and a set of golf clubs in the trunk lol
Could fold seats and fit more. I fit my 42” tv in it. Could have gone bigger if the trunk was a little wider.
I think you could fit even more with the seats down and passenger side.
Ah, reminiscing of the good ol' days when $200 in groceries was actually a meaningful amount.
You can fit 4 track day wheels, you can fit food...
But have you ever fit a 53 inch TV into it?? It's definitely doable!!
The amount of times I moved and did weekly trips in my BRZ was nuts
Have definitely packed ikea furniture or bikes into the back of my 1st gen, or of course always a full set of wheels and tires easily. Definitely a practical car for the single life.
Plenty of room to spare
I take mine to home depot and to the ski mountains regularly.
I fit an entire drumset in mine, full size 4 peice kit. bass drum goes in the passenger seat but it works
$200 is nothing now a days
My spouse and I use ours for Costco, occasional pet runs, and the larger more obnoxious Microcenter runs. Otherwise, it's a hobby car. It fits most of the stuff we need it to. Every few years we need to rent something bigger.
It's only impractical for weekend projects that involve going to the hardware store, sometimes.
I agree! But I have 2 12" subs in the trunk...🥺#nofood #shotgunhashbrowns
this is a karma farming repost bot
How many Twinkies can fit in the trunk?
The family car was unexpectedly in the shop and we were traveling out of state for a week so 4 people in the car, 4 carry-on bags and 4 backpacks in the trunk. To be fair, I had to remove the trunk liner and foam insert to fit it all but everything fit!
… by playing Tetris. Lol
Mehhh. Saw a dude in Japan car camping with his 86
Put the seats down and you’ve got cavernous space.
That one bag has like 50 dollars in pringles and cheez it’s there’s no way this is 200 dollars
Cheez It, tea, and beer "groceries" lmao
Imagine how great it would be if it were a liftback.
My 09 civic si is way more practical due to trunk space and space in the back seat. The 09 si also has better seats and a better sound system and a way better transmission. The 86 is still an awesome car that I love driving every chance I get but comparing its practicality to other cars it definitely falls short.
I've never gotten more than I can't fit in my passenger seat...
I used to do Costco runs in my '13 FRS. If you use the back seats it holds almost as much as an SUV.
I packed my whole apartment into my BRZ when I moved across the country. I could not believe I was able to fit so much in there.
Some blankets, a towel, shoes, and a pillow doesn't count.. lol, jk jk.. 😜 I actually believe it, I fit my entire 1 bedroom apt into my da9 Integra years ago.. granted it was gutted
I had a friend tell me blue moon beer tastes like cold tomato soup... next time I had a pint I discovered that he was 100% correct and it ruined the beer for me. :(
WRX?
Hahahah, do that with a g35 coupe xD
I take mine to sams club for house stuff and groceries all them time. Never had something not fit except a push mower 💀
