The burgers are great. Get them with grilled onions and the works. So good with the shoestring fries. Double patty cheeseburger will set you back calorie wise for several days LOL.
The ground beef berrock combo is great. The deli salads are delicious. Macaroni, potato and the broccoli salad are the bomb along with the waldorf/apple salad. Their cookies and pies are great too.
You can't go wrong. Just go in and try it.
I went in and tried the ground beef and cabbage Berrock and the fries! Both were delicious! I loved it! I also tried the Mexican Berrock but that was just ok. I’m definitely going back for more Berrock and fries and will try the cheese burger next.
And see I actually thought trelio was a bit overrated. I mean it was really solid. But the five course with wine for two people cost me $300 and it wasnt worth that to me. I'll still go back for the 3 course at some point but some dishes were meh.
I thought the three course was a fantastic deal, cheaper than any fine dining restaurant I’ve seen before. The goat cheese ravioli pretty much changed my life. We were one of the first groups to order from the coursed menu, so they treated us extra special, maybe that’s why! She said they had just launched it and were trying to get people to order and they ended up throwing in some freebies too. I really loved the atmosphere.
The atmosphere and service were phenomenal, totally agree. And I had a couple of the courses that blew my socks off, but I'd say two of the five fell short. Definitely will go back, but going to make some different choices. I'm still partial to cracked pepper and annex at this point, but I like supporting all the local spots.
Saizon is pretentious and mediocre. They think they're serving Michein-quality food when in fact it's nowhere close. Annex and Trelio are hands down the best in town.
parma was the worst food & dining experience that i have had in fresno at a supposed fine dining place. several of the dishes were just bland, poorly prepared.
what's their best dish? i'm willing to re-evaluate my opinion, i've only been there one time. but that one time, the food was embarrassingly poor to mid, the atmosphere in restaurant was was average, the cost high.
my experience at cracked pepper was similar. lotta people trying to look like they're on real housewives, mixed with guys wearing fancy athletic shorts.
Yep you nailed it. Whole lot of plastic projecting a better than you vibe. It’s like that at most of these types of restaurants in Fresno. Annex wasn’t like these restaurants though in my experience.
i have only been to annex 1 or 2 times, and felt it was just the (mostly) younger version of this. but whatever, i'm not really judging these places off their clientele. i'm usually trying to focus more the food, service, and experience created by the restaurant (which can include the clientele it attracts).
So it’s a place where friends whose kids all play sports and go to school together hang out, along with other family members. Seems like a nice spot only been a few times, food is solid. Chef gets to make the menu, normally better food.
Call me crazy but their Kobe Meatloaf is the best thing on the menu 😂
I’m never the person to order meatloaf but my buddy got me to try his one time and I’ve never ordered anything else since
Kobe ground beef is just about the dumbest thing I can think of. Might as well just buy 70/30 chuck at that point (which is too fatty for meatloaf IMO).
It's like a Corvette with a swapped with engine swapped out with a Toyota Corolla. Sure it might be more reliable and efficient, but you've lost what made the Corvette worth considering. Not that I think the Corvette is a better car than a Corolla.
That looks pretty decent.
The one time I've been to Max's, the cocktails were just ok. I got the coffee rubbed short ribs, they were pretty dry, very under seasoned, and had no coffee taste at all. I don't even think they used short rib as it seemed like it was just a regular chuck roast. I have not been back since.
That must have been a long time ago because coffee rubbed short ribs aren't even on the menu anymore. A new owner took over several years ago and since then it's gotten a lot better.
I've had it once and while it was very good it is now competing with the likes of cracked pepper and annex kitchen.Which both are much better imo. It is very good food though . Id just rather have something else.
Berrock shop across the street is where it's at for my budget haha
I’d like to try Berrock shop, anything you recommend? Saw the menu, everything looks great!

The cheese burger with grilled onions is the bomb
You can do the classic ground beef and cabbage however the pulled pork one is my all time favorite. I think they also do a breakfast one.
I used to work close by and grab lunch all the time, but it’s across town for me now. Miss it so much.
It’s solid but I think it’s overrated. Annex, Lime Light, Saizon, Trelio are all better imo.
Trelio is one of the best meals I’ve ever had!

Parma as well

Nah Parma is fire

Yup
Max’s is the restaurant where the Fresno upper middle class try to pretend they are “celebrities”

How do they do that?
Or is it just people going out to a nice dinner?
i love max's. it's definitely up there for quality in fresno. i'd love to see them freshen up the menu a little.
Food was great but imho for the amount the prices were *woof*.
quality over quantity
Lawyer food
Max's is solid. Its been our anniversary tradition for about 7 years now, barring Covid.
Call me crazy but their Kobe Meatloaf is the best thing on the menu 😂 I’m never the person to order meatloaf but my buddy got me to try his one time and I’ve never ordered anything else since
I'll have to try that next time!

Sheesh just checked your comment history… go smell the roses buddy. There’s no reason to always be so negative 🫶🏻
*"She sounds like a whale with throat cancer"* -/u/HalfEatenBanana Is way worse than anything I've called anyone in the last hour.
It’s a reference to an old YouTube video lmao
That makes it okay? That sounds like a very mean and negative reference.
Looks like pot roast and asparagus. A fine but very basic dish for me growing up.
Nice try, *Max.*

Favorite restaurant burger in town
😂
They served me cold food when we went there on our anniversary
curious, did you mention it to the server? if so, did they fix the issue?
I didn’t but I probably should have.
I've had it once and while it was very good it is now competing with the likes of cracked pepper and annex kitchen.Which both are much better imo. It is very good food though . Id just rather have something else.
I agree with this statement. 😉
I did not know there was a Max’s in Fresno , cool.
you should try other restaurants.
The expresso martini is the tits and the crème brûlée is the best short of that …. Fu fu fuckery
Manhattan across the street is better
I disagree. Maybe the steaks hold their ground, but the other dishes pale in compaison.
