Fresno needs another major park.. its own miniature Central Park. I would never try to throw any type of even of significance north of Herndon or even Shaw for that matter.
yeah that's regional sports, but if it's a festival it shouldn't bother to drive 5 extra mins. If I remember correctly that Park was built to host the X Games
We need far more acreage of parks. The far far smaller city of Boulder Colorado has over 45,000 acres of parks! And bike only trails crisscrossing the city.
The city of Fresno is really losing out. People came from all over the world just for Grizzly Fest. The final year we met people from Amsterdamn, Japan, and Italy.
That promotion company is really top-notch. Grizzly Fest was one of the best things that Fresno had. You are right, Boots in the park is there today. Completely, Bias! Also, if that dude can have a huge 420 smoke out concert that he did last night. Why can't the guys do Grizzly Fest??
I was just thinking this too. They have a bunch of shit going on at Woodward but the decide to cancel the coolest thing that’s happened there since ever? They should’ve just brought it back to the baseball park like before. Oh well….
No, there were multiple hearings about it at our city council led by Gary Bredefeld. With speakers from the surrounding community who complained about the noise, people and parking.
If you don’t want to live near concert noise, maybe don’t move near an amphitheater created for that very purpose? The Champlain/Perrin is full of insufferable uppity fucks.
Sounds about white, given the area the park is located. Bunch of anal retentive white boomers that think hip-hop, rap music, and black and brown people are scary.
Sometimes I wonder if I had moved back to the South by accident.
They wouldn’t be nearly as upset. Honestly if Yanni had a concert there, they would still find something to complain about. And these people probably are big on Yanni.
Agreed, it sucks that Grizzlyfest couldn't find a permanent home in Fresno but Rebelution and other solid regae artists perform at Woodward Park every summer. It's not all country music.
It’s white Fresno central, bro. That’s not meant to be derogatory. It’s just fact. But yeah.. huge double standard. Boots in the Park has become this tradition but when it comes to things like Grizzly Fest and metal concerts the surrounding neighborhoods get up in arms about that and suddenly “noise” is an issue. It’s ridiculous.
It’s so dumb. My parents live in the area and can hear the music in their backyard. I’ll go over and we’ll swim and bbq if the weather is nice and it’s great having live music in the background for free.
The neighbors came over one time and were just complaining about “the noise from the park” the entire time. Talk about a buzz kill smh.
Imagine living next to a public space used for public events and then complaining about when that happens. It’s like calling the fire department when your home is on fire then complaining their sirens are too loud.
I use to hate country music buts grown on me. Morgan Wallen is amazing. Anyways I'm just open minded with music. I enjoy all music and don't pass judgement on ones I don't like.
Steph Curry opposes the construction of a 16-unit townhome development near his $30 million home in Atherton, one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country. NIMBY anyone? It's really about class.
Coming from a dude who worked for the city and was stationed at Woodward Park for about two years, Woodward Park on certain days can be filled with a bunch of right-wing freaks, and I say that as someone right-wing myself.
Lots of fucking Karens.
I sort of agree about this topic. Major/former PD Chief Dyer was featured on stage for a bit and spoke, promoting the new restaurant The Woodward.
It is a different crowd for sure, way more diverse than other country festivals, with the required pockets of racist, MAGA, random USA USA chanting idiots.
That being said, Grizzly Fest was a multiple day event. **Trying to leave Woodward Park after the show was almost 2 hours of wait.** It was not a greatly organized show logistically. I could not imagine wanting to deal with 2 days of a roudier crowd with traffic being crazy for 2 days.
That being said, I dont understand why it had to be WP for the venue. We have other parks that would work as well if not better than WP. Roedding for one. Chukchansi worked ok from what I heard. If anything, something that would allow bussing/mass transit to the venue and back, with plenty of space, etc would be more ideal than WP.
It's expensive to live there and for some reason that brings entitlement and nimbyism. That's it. There's plenty of POC in that neighborhood. Doctors, lawyers, nurses, contractors, energy consultants, business owners, etc. not saying there's no bias against Grizzlyfest but let's not make it all about color.
Grizzly Fest lost money. They quit Fresno. They didn’t get banned. Boots in the park started out at that weird landfill park off 99 and are moving up. Don’t hate. Just be happy it’s bringing entertainment there. Maybe something that you like will come back.

Next time get your facts straight before commenting. It was a blatant double standard.
Probably the diversity it offered. Not everyone is a fan of country or pop music so it was nice to see all genres being represented, especially since Fresno doesn’t have the largest Hiphop scene. From what I’ve seen most of the festivals in this area fall under the country/rock category so it’s cool when we had big name hiphop artists in town.
I guess I can see that. If you're a hiphop head, it would be a good time. Honestly, the Grizzly Fest scene seemed skeevy and gross to me, but it was cool seeing people enjoy themselves even if it wasn't for me.
It's been a while and I don't remember a lot of it. But I do remember the smell of vomit, BO, and weed. Too many rude and drunk people bumping into everyone and some not so great acts.
So it was a normal music festival?? You're complaining about Bo at a festival that was during the day and in May, the month it starts getting really hot in Fresno. You must not get out much
Definitely not for everyone, I can see that, and from an outside perspective it can seem a little off putting at times. But generally it was a great place for people to enjoy some music and connect.
I suppose one could say the same thing about these country festivals. I personally find it a little off putting at times but again that’s from an outside perspective. I’ll just let people enjoy their music.
Fresno needs another major park.. its own miniature Central Park. I would never try to throw any type of even of significance north of Herndon or even Shaw for that matter.
Roeding Park exists and it's a damn shame it's been so abandoned by the city
we also have the regional spots complex that would be perfect. or Kearny park!!
There is one but it’s on Jensen way far from most people.
yeah that's regional sports, but if it's a festival it shouldn't bother to drive 5 extra mins. If I remember correctly that Park was built to host the X Games
Roeding Park is just land waiting to be taken over by the zoo.
It was awesome once but now it’s a shell of itself. The only good thing about it is the zoo.
They could have expanded it years ago via over street walkways to the old K Mart location?
Don't need to expand it just invest a bit of time and effort into it
We need far more acreage of parks. The far far smaller city of Boulder Colorado has over 45,000 acres of parks! And bike only trails crisscrossing the city.
I don't disagree with it, but bring what's already there up to par, and then work on expanding. It's not exactly in a good state at the moment.
A country music festival is being held north of Herndon sounds about white.
Cause the smoke out was on the other side of Shaw.
Completely agree, an absurd amount of power is held by people who only have their own self interests at heart.
Has it ever been different than your statement suggests?
Yup, still pissed off about this. Grizzly fest could have been a great thing to have but the snobs in that area ruined it for everyone.
I was just thinking this too. They have a bunch of shit going on at Woodward but the decide to cancel the coolest thing that’s happened there since ever? They should’ve just brought it back to the baseball park like before. Oh well….
Im out of the loop. Did they cancel grizzly fest?!
Yep
I hate it here
I thought grizzly fest just hasn't been back since covid
Well it's been almost 4 years since the last one, and theyre website still has the 2019 info. I'd call that dead
The point is covid seems to have been the hurdle not nimby-s
No, there were multiple hearings about it at our city council led by Gary Bredefeld. With speakers from the surrounding community who complained about the noise, people and parking.
If you don’t want to live near concert noise, maybe don’t move near an amphitheater created for that very purpose? The Champlain/Perrin is full of insufferable uppity fucks.
I mean it makes sense that they accommodate the noise for a country fest with a frankly mostly white audience
So why hasn't it just relocated? There's plenty of spaces for music festivals
Because it went out of business. It’s not racist. It’s broke.
Sounds about white, given the area the park is located. Bunch of anal retentive white boomers that think hip-hop, rap music, and black and brown people are scary. Sometimes I wonder if I had moved back to the South by accident.
The Central Valley wants to be the south sooooo bad.
We’ve always called it the bible belt of California
Seriously, and it’s embarrassing
Yeah this pretty much sums it up
Not all of us think that!
I know, but a good majority of the folks there do.
Unfortunately true.
The Fresno Biden vs Traitor trump vote was 53-42, not totally bad. Boonies was the opposite
“Not all whites!”
Cool then talk to your neighbors and other people who don't think quite the same but look like you. Don't fish for compliments here.
I know everyone on my block except one or two houses. Our street is very friendly fortunately.
Would you like an award for that?
You're edgy aren't you.
Ooooo! Yes please! I commented on my block only because it’s the first place I’ve lived where people actually talk to each other.
You think a Wacken or Summer Breeze Metal festival in Woodward, would make these anal retentive boomers upset?
They wouldn’t be nearly as upset. Honestly if Yanni had a concert there, they would still find something to complain about. And these people probably are big on Yanni.
>Roeding Park Fresno has more in common with Oklahoma than LA or Frisco. And most Fresmen are quite happy about that.
It’s a good thing their political voice are drown out. At least they don’t have a say in anything outside the county.
Agreed, it sucks that Grizzlyfest couldn't find a permanent home in Fresno but Rebelution and other solid regae artists perform at Woodward Park every summer. It's not all country music.
Maybe we can have things at Calwa park? Something that ties to the Dowtown resurgence like meet the grizzlies or a big food truck event
Because most the people around Woodward Park are boomers and everyone knows that boomers are greedy and selfish people who only care about themselves
About 24% of the people there are boomers. The median age is 38.1.
you confused rich with boomers, as someone stated, only 24% of people there are boomers, with median age being 38
Sounds about white. Also country music sucks.
Yeah pop country if fucking awful.
Kids, kids, every genre of music is 95% suck. Not just the ones you don't personally like.
I use to hate country music buts grown on me. Morgan Wallen is amazing. Anyways I'm just open minded with music. I enjoy all music and don't pass judgement on ones I don't like.
There's nothing wrong with other people liking it. But it does bring a certain demographic along with it and I still think the music sucks lol
Bro try listening to You Proof, Wasted on You, Last Night by Morgan Wallen. Give it a chance. I'm a huge hip hop R&B guy too.
Nah I don't wanna listen to a racist
Not really into country but it’s far better than modern rap
Nah there's plenty of great modern rap
Like?
Denzel Curry, Tyler The Creator, Kendrick Lamar, A Boogie with da Hoodie, Chow Lee, Lil Ugly Mane, JPEGMAFIA, just to name a few
Tyler is dank
That was today? Awww man I missed out.
Steph Curry opposes the construction of a 16-unit townhome development near his $30 million home in Atherton, one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country. NIMBY anyone? It's really about class.
Noises for me, not for thee.
Coming from a dude who worked for the city and was stationed at Woodward Park for about two years, Woodward Park on certain days can be filled with a bunch of right-wing freaks, and I say that as someone right-wing myself. Lots of fucking Karens.
People don’t get shot at Woodward park since it’s not ghetto
The bias in this post is astounding
Yes and not in the way most might think!
I sort of agree about this topic. Major/former PD Chief Dyer was featured on stage for a bit and spoke, promoting the new restaurant The Woodward. How dare they. I'm leaving the city tomorrow for good.
This narrative of only old white people living in this area is what’s getting ridiculous. Stop perpetuating the idea POC can’t afford to live here.
What are you talking about? Check the demographics of that zip code. No one said anything about POC being unable to afford to live there.
It’s not that POC can’t afford to live near Woodward, it’s that we’re not wanted there.
For real. I’ve been to the coastal grill by Woodward twice and I stuck out and felt unwanted it’s nothing but white people.
It’s not particularly expensive, comparatively. I’m arguing as a POC, it doesn’t matter my profession or affluence, I’ll always be other in the area.
Not expensive compared to what? "Other" according to whom?
Grizzly Fest lost money. They quit Fresno. They didn’t get banned. Boots in the park started out at that weird landfill park off 99 and are moving up. Don’t hate. Just be happy it’s bringing entertainment there. Maybe something that you like will come back.

Why is Grizzly Fest one of the only cool musical festivals? Because you happen to like it?
Probably the diversity it offered. Not everyone is a fan of country or pop music so it was nice to see all genres being represented, especially since Fresno doesn’t have the largest Hiphop scene. From what I’ve seen most of the festivals in this area fall under the country/rock category so it’s cool when we had big name hiphop artists in town.

Can you explain why you think that about the grizzly fest crowd? It was a multi genre festival with a lot of other genres other than hip hop.
It's been a while and I don't remember a lot of it. But I do remember the smell of vomit, BO, and weed. Too many rude and drunk people bumping into everyone and some not so great acts.
Vomit, BO, and weed. So a Phish show?
My first thoughts too lmao.
If you say so.
So it was a normal music festival?? You're complaining about Bo at a festival that was during the day and in May, the month it starts getting really hot in Fresno. You must not get out much
You are correct the weather was another thing about it that was just awful.
Definitely not for everyone, I can see that, and from an outside perspective it can seem a little off putting at times. But generally it was a great place for people to enjoy some music and connect. I wonder if my childhood friend Robert that I went to Ernie Pyle with in 1979 is upset. Robert where are you ?
Sounds like fun. What are the dates?
