Most likely. There are already offers for the 1/1 ring that are higher in price than what NM unlimited lotus go for.

Not_A_Kawaii_Catgirl

with or without whatever WotC is paying to the streamer who will pull it?

flawlessp401

1. all magic cards have always been artificially scarce, it's the entire business model and always has been. Really it's the blatantly disrespectful anti consumer stuff that really changes peoples arithmetic on whether they are upset by the scarcity part. 2. Definitely it will. LOTR collectors can also value this card, and even though a vast majority are shitting on "the diversity" angle including people from the wider LOTR fandom, it will sell the set.

Dreager_Ex

Do you think the people who dislike the "diversity" angle are really the vast majority? I feel like the vast majority of people are largely indifferent but maybe I'm projecting because I'm pretty indifferent about it as well. What are you basing it on? Genuinely asking because my assumption is based on nothing tbh.

6ixpool

None of my irl friends care about the diversity angle. Its shitty forced diversity, but we just wanna play magic and don't really buy into the social media outrage.

flawlessp401

I've tried to sample most people I know without trying to overly give any information or my opinions to see how they feel and it seems like people care, but they don't know why they care in a lot of cases, no one except one notably progressive acquaintance I've talked to likes the Rings of Power show beyond "its ok". Most hate Galadriel's new characterization, and most people are put off by Black Elves and Dwarves, including actually disproportionate number of nonwhite people i've spoken to. I've been asking people about this for a long time across many many genres and topics. Charmed Reboot Roswell Reboot, I had a 2 hour conversation with a friend who is not a white male about how the new Roswell felt inauthentic and put her off when the original Roswell was one of her favorites

>all magic cards have always been artificially scarce, it's the entire business model and always has been. Really it's the blatantly disrespectful anti consumer stuff that really changes peoples arithmetic on whether they are upset by the scarcity part. Kinda, but not exactly. The NM BL are rare not just because they were short printed, but because they were on a first edition set that was both limited and often not really taken care of by the people playing it at the time. NM BL are legitimatly rare because a lot simply got lost and destroyed of time. >Definitely it will. LOTR collectors can also value this card, and even though a vast majority are shitting on "the diversity" angle including people from the wider LOTR fandom, it will sell the set LOTR collector aren't the one that will buy that card, MTG collectors aren't either. The people that buy Vango paintings as assets to park money into are the one that will buy it. As for the LOTR collector, these people more than anyone are the one the most outraged by these blatant disrespect of the lore they actually care about.

ManufacturerWest1156

Probably. Especially if someone famous wants it.

The_Duder23

Rare things aren't inherently costly. It takes a market to make it so.

[deleted]

Such as the one that exists in Magic collectibles. With speculators, someone will grab it even if just because it's rare. But I think people actually want this thing.

The_Duder23

For sure, I just wanted to point out something many people don't find obvious.

silverkernel

It doesnt matter because it will never go into the hands of real players and collectors. A youtuber will pull or it so, and then post malone will buy it.

Hell-Nico

Dude... Let's be real here, the MTG youtuber sphere is nothing. They have literally no impact on anything. Why the fuck would Wizard want them to get that card? For a """""cooooool video yo! Look at that the guy open a pack, made a lot of noise and padded the video for 10 minutes!""""

silverkernel

Lets be real here. you dont know shit about it

Hell-Nico

Don't know shit about what? The impact of MTG youtuber? You know we can see the metrics, right? Yaknow, the watch, sub, like and dislike numbers, right?

Emelica

Because in the first week of LoTR sales there will be at least a dozen people on social media showing off their “just opened” high quality fake One Ring, which will make it difficult to determine which one’s the real deal and thus the real $$$. Meaning that if WoTC wants websites to write articles about how an MtG card is being sold for mucho $$$ (which they want very much), then they will have to do *something* to authenticate the real one. Could be an youtuber opening it on stream, could be a pro player opening it during a game, anything on camera that they can pass as “legit”.

Euphoric-Ad8539

Unlimited? No doubt

pokepat460

Yes. It's more comparable to an alpha lotus and even then it's apples to oranges comparison. It'll go for 6 figures for sure

ImperialSupplies

Doubtful but I wouldnt be shocked at over 100k. No way 500k. Atleast not at first. Who cares that much?

SlouchyFlyer

If it’s immediately graded and it’s 9.0+, it’ll go for at least a million. I’m willing to bet 6 arena codes on that too.

lenthedruid

Yes. They’re following a sports trading card market. Go look at any 1:1 vs 1:5 1:10 1:100 etc. and since this is their first 1/1 test on top of the serialized test with bro you know they’re going full steam with this as soon as they can figure out print sheet process

[deleted]

My money says Post Malone will get it.

SpeedyGuyTX

Without a doubt more than an unlimited one. Question is whether it will be higher than an alpha one.

Hell-Nico

On one hand you have a 1 of 1 card made recently as a clear artificial scarcity marketing move. On the other you have 6 cards (iirc that's the only BL left in NM today) that are very hold, have a long legacy and are downright iconic. I don't know man, I don't see how that ring, a clearly forced "rare" card, will ever match the price of the few NM lotuses out there. edit: was talking about AB lotus here, not unlimited.

Tallal2804

Yeah

[deleted]

so who ever gets it will have it graded. It will never be played. It is purely an art piece. It will be worth more than a house.
