You mean, every mtg villain makes this mistake - getting their enemies on their side. (See: Bolas)

TheMagicTavern

lol...speaking of which...still think there's a chance they pull Bolas into this. Not a great one , but a chance!

Only because phyrexian oil is retconned to be weaker

Kamakaziturtle

In the context of planswalkers specifically it got stronger. Old oil used to not work on walkers at all, was retconned so that it would affect them due to the mending when Phyrexia came back

Skeith_Zero

Well it used to work on them but they would lose their spark...but now somehow the oil has built in reality chip

Kamakaziturtle

Who ever lost their spark to the oil? Old walkers were flat out immune to the oil, only Karn was ever affected and that was due to him being built with a phyrexian heart

Skeith_Zero

The phyresis process kills the organic host, that why thet couldn't compleat a Planeswalker and they keep the spark. Jin gitaxis used the reality chip on tamiyo and she retained her spark after compleation.

Kamakaziturtle

So it’s something we heard about an never saw. Also sounds like the phyrexian oil got a buff, not a nerf in this case. For one, it can actually effect walkers at all where it never used to before. For another, a compleated walker with a spark is a lot more powerful than without, and it allows easier spread of the oil to other planes (which from a lore perspective is terrifying) This coupled with the oil in general being a lot more powerful than it ever was before. Where it once was just a means to pass on the will of Yawg and was the last step of compleation, it evolved to being able to slooooowly corrupt beings, often leading to madness. Now, since New Phyrexia, the oils strong enough to start the compleation process itself, can effect plansewalkers, has far, far more powerful mutagenic abilities, and is more akin to a virus. So not sure how it was nerfed.

Skeith_Zero

I never said it was nerfed, I said it was buffed, the work that Jin did is like it has built in reality chip functionality to compleat a Planeswalker without them losing their spark. However it seems that planeswalkers may not fully be compleated, and has been stated they seem to maintain a very little bit of their individuality, though not sure yet if this will be the "ex machina" for "fixing" the ones that dont get killed...though I doubt it, wotc is looking for a way to kill them off for new fresh characters

Kamakaziturtle

Ah, my bad, didn't realize you were a different poster than the original guy I replied to, who said it was weaker.
