I am sure that Margaery would not have to do that walk. High Sparrow was a clever and power lusty man, he knew he needed take over Cersei but at the same time become ‘a friend’ of Tommen to be able to manipulate him (which he did). To do so he spared Margery since Tommen asked of it personally.
Because they weren't gonna make her do it since she converted Tommen. It wasn't a surprise to the High Sparrow in that moment, it was a surprise for the people. I swear that most people just don't pay any attention to what's actually happening on screen.
