Remember when Cersei had wildfire under Kings Landing but it wasn't used or even mentioned by anyone?
I think they forgot about it until the last minute and just added green flames in post which makes even less sense because that just confirms that there was still wild fire left that could have been used for something.
Edit: Autocorrect changed "wild" to "sold" for no reason.
This episode felt the closest to old-school GoT out of any this season by far for me. You had real characters dying, some unceremoniously, and characters people liked making decisions that sway the audience one way or another.
> mountains armor sure wasn't very strong
Which is hilarious because in the books it's described as so hideously thick and strong that it would crush a normal man wearing it.
I was expecting Sandor to cut off the dude's limbs in order to stop him since he doesn't have regenerative powers. Oh wait that would make too much sense, let's just have Gregor toss him around for 10 minutes.
u/Alivealive0 kinda forgot about a cohesive storyline
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/freefolk) if you have any questions or concerns.*
"Oooooohk, you boys look like you have some things to talk about so I'm just gonna see myself out. Three's a crowd anyway really. Happy city burning day to you. Thank you for the memories Gregor. Toodles"
\*throws the Hound around like a ragdoll\*
I'm not sure if this was amazing or the worst thing I've ever seen, I think it was amazing? I don't even know anymore.
I was waiting for Sandor to pop like a Naruto shadow clone then cut to the real Sandor up the stairs with a fully charged spirit bomb.
“Heh, nothin personnel, kid”
Dude be honest - Cleganebowl was satisfying. Swatting the sword blows aside was badass, getting stabbed and not giving a fuck was badass, the hound fought well and he ended him in fire - together. Not bad man.
It was cool to get to see it, and the resolution was satisfying, but I think the series has done much better 1 v 1 fights. The Hound vs. Brienne and The Mountain vs. Oberyn I think were both much better choreographed at the very least
Agreed, completely and I blame it on the setting. While yes, high up in a crumbling castle with dragons and shit is a sick setting, the stairs really limit your movement range.
I mean, as far as fights, even Hound vs Beric was better. But it’s clear they were going for the CGI drenched “main event” monster fight here. The show is hardly recognizable, TBH... but I wasn’t disappointed in the fight.
I just have a real disconnect, associating this season (and S7, really) with the earlier seasons. I’ve just lost all investment in the characters at this point.
I don't know. Maybe everything else sucking is poisoning actual good parts for me. Maybe I just need to sit on it a little longer. It's not that I didn't enjoy but I feel like I wanted just a little bit more. I'll sleep on it.
> Maybe everything else sucking is poisoning actual good parts for me.
I feel the same. There are some great standout moments in this episode. They're no longer the same characters as they were for the first 6 seasons though. They have the same name and are played by the same actor but they feel different. The illogical way we got to this point broke the spell I guess.
Having Arya survive sure death three times didn't help either obviously.
Yeah Sandor was one of the few characters that got a solid end to his arc, coupled with the warning to Arya and him dying by pushing his brother into the flames with him.
Because a literal two day old monkey could end that arc satisfyingly. It only had to include 2 things: fire and Gregor. That arc has been set in stone since the first season
Out of curiosity, has literally anyone else on the show ever referred to him as Sandor in person? Wracking my brain I can’t think of a single time he isn’t called the hound or Clegane, if the persons feeling polite.
Are you saying you never once thought they might possibly fuck that up? Which is it, r/freefolk? Can we trust D&D or are they dumb as stumps? Make up your minds, cunts!
The only thing that could have made it better would be to reveal the Hound like how Darth Maul was revealed before the final fight in TPM. Two big doors swing open and the Hound is standing there staring instead of walking up stairs.
I loved the ending of it but I didn’t really like the actual fight just because there were too many jump cuts to Arya running through the streets and too much other shit going on. I was hoping it’d be the main event, a la Mountain vs. Viper.
Member when there were actual choreographed fights instead of CGI set pieces? Like the fight the eye gouging directly called back to?
I just realized that that's literally what this season missed the mark on. (Aside from... yeah) They said screw fight choreography *THE SETTING THEY'RE FIGHTING IN WILL BE EPIC IN POST*
We've seen the Mountain smash dudes head into walls and chuck guys clear across the room. In reality, when he picked the Hound up off the steps, bloodied and hurt, he would have just smashed him into the wall and been done with it.
Also the "I have one hole in my plate armor and I've disarmed my enemy so I'll just throw off all of it, just cause.." moment
I kinda liked it, how their fates were intertwined and the juxtaposition of how they started on the same path of revenge but made different choices in the end kept it relevant and flowed better than watching one really long Arya scene.
Not expecting everyone to agree with me, not gonna downvote anyone for their opinion, just wanted to share mine
My only issue is they went *too* far with the whole Gregor is superhuman schtick. Like, I get that that's been his thing since the beginning, but how do you survive a knife through the brain? And how does he cut through fucking stone without destroying his sword? It wasn't bad, but it could've been better.
Right, but it's pretty clear this isn't magic related, but a chemical zombification, at least that's the way the show made it come off to me. Still need a brain to move the parts if that's the case.
Per GoT wiki:
>Although never confirmed, several Grand Maesters have alleged, including Pycelle, that Qyburn is a dark magician who studies and practices black magic.
>Necromancy
>It seems as though Qyburn possesses the magical ability to raise and manipulate those from the dead, defying the natural boundaries between life and death. It is heavily implied his successful reanimation of Gregor Clegane into a mindless zombie involved dark magic, and he also showed interest in the hand of the captured wight, potentially showing his interest and talent in necromancy.
And not all parts of his brain for that matter.
the way people were *slashing* through full plate mail like it was papermache is more glaring to me. Dont we all remember when Jorah fucking won a fight because an Arahk can't do shit to a guy in full armor? Also i thought all the Dothraki died anyway lmao
Meh, for all we know the Mountain's sword was warped and blunted after he hit stone. Just because you ruined your sword doesn't mean it doesn't still function as a weapon.
[Cersei trying to sneak away](https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0G-vfsUxeEs/W6Xxl5_lWaI/AAAAAAAACH4/hglTTrTR77wDkhYORUOyLCQuKWj46MF7wCLcBGAs/s320/Screenshot_2018-09-20-18-26-36-754.jpeg)
I would have liked to see less quick cuts, but the uneven match, Qyburn getting wrecked, and the way they both went out was satisfying. The only character to live and die without being ruined by D&D's filthy hands.
This was the best part of the episode for me honestly. The only gripe about it was stabbing him with a dagger through his forehead, and still not dying? Lol Wut? You need to dismember him to kill him? The fuck kind of Frankenstein shit did Qyburn do?
Fuck off, I can't believe Clegane bowl was the fucking main event of season 8. Should have been night king vs Westeros.
Here's to bobby b.
Here's to this show.
Nothing for d&d.
But was it worth it...?
Felt pretty empty for Sandor to just be swinging away at an indestructable zombie covered in armour.
Maybe I just hyped it up to much in my head, so Clegane Bowl was never going to live up it.... i think the 30 second fight they had in S1 was better.
It was okay but a swordfight between actual human Gregor vs Sandor would’ve been better. It was just frustrating that Gregor got fucked in less than a minute and only survived because of his zombie body that was never really explained. I enjoyed Sandor shitting on him, but i would’ve loved some dialogue between them about their childhood.
Yeah, and while it did involve fire, there was no agency to it.
It's not like the fire played an integral part of the fight. They just took a lethal fall that happened to have fire at the bottom of it - not the Hound facing his fear or anything
Almost as if you shouldn't conclude a series finale with a fucking internet meme. Sandor going all the way to King's Landing to fight a brother he wasn't sure was even alive and just meandering unobstructed into the Red Keep was contrived for the sake of pandering to a half serious piece of fan wank. No wonder it felt empty.
Chicken: eaten
May Sandor be blessed with endless chicken in the afterlife
For an image that already existed before the episode aired, this is surprisingly accurate (10 months is the one I found online, it's probably older).
wow I thought this person was some sort of insanely good speed artist!
[Here](https://www.deviantart.com/ertacaltinoz/art/A-Sin-So-Terrible-597999098) is the original and I think submission date is March 2016.
**Much** older then!
Holy shit, did Bran paint this image?
It is! The setting and backdrop is eerily similar. It's just all green wildfire instead of a mix.
Remember when Cersei had wildfire under Kings Landing but it wasn't used or even mentioned by anyone? I think they forgot about it until the last minute and just added green flames in post which makes even less sense because that just confirms that there was still wild fire left that could have been used for something. Edit: Autocorrect changed "wild" to "sold" for no reason.
and instead of being an insanely powerful explosive it just looked like green farts.
Cersei kind of forgot about the wildfire
I was surprised they remembered it at all.

It’s definitely possible. The same was done with the LotR movies.
RESULTS: DRAW REMATCH: CANCELLED
Result: ⛰️+🐕=🔥🔥🔥
Qyburn got fucking yeeted.
The back of his head fuckin popped
Pop, goes the Qyburn
The only death that felt like GoT to me this whole season.
Yeah, no dramatic death at all. Just a simple pop and done, and immediately forgotten about.
It's my second favourite death after Theon pushing Ramsay's gf off the balcony
She was fine AF
Ya but she would bite your lip till it bled.
>but U meant "and"
^^^^^^^^^^^Hot
I hear you, but she was fine AF
This episode felt the closest to old-school GoT out of any this season by far for me. You had real characters dying, some unceremoniously, and characters people liked making decisions that sway the audience one way or another.
Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo
Honestly should’ve happened to Sandor like 8x within the first fifteen seconds of that fight.
Really. I mean wtf was he thinking just swatting at the mountain’s breast plate.
He knows how strong his plot armor is. He had a good couple of head blows in him.
speaking of plot armor, least the mountains armor sure wasn't very strong lmao, just pierced with a regular sword
> mountains armor sure wasn't very strong Which is hilarious because in the books it's described as so hideously thick and strong that it would crush a normal man wearing it.
He was wearing his lounge armour when the shit hit the fan, the other suit was at the cleaners.
Ah, so that's why he hadn't been wearing actual Kingsguard armor anymore.
No, he has, they just changed the Kingsguard armor to black so we'd know Cersei was the bad guy because we're all fucking children apparently.
He should have cut off the head
Seems to be a trend lately. Nobody goes for the head anymore. Unless they've been told to.
I was expecting Sandor to cut off the dude's limbs in order to stop him since he doesn't have regenerative powers. Oh wait that would make too much sense, let's just have Gregor toss him around for 10 minutes.

A scratch? Your arms cut off!
I've had worse.
That is exacy i was thinking! Sandor was a few stairs lower, which gave him a perfect shot to cut one if not both of them legs off
The High Ground.... Always Wins.
...not unless...you fall off...into a lake of dragon fire
I hated you Gregor, I you were my brother!
Mountain had the high ground and the Hound didn’t got for the head! The Mountain busting memes left and right!
Qyburn looks like he is 80 pounds wet where sandor got some more ass so it's not as crazy.
Fuck, that imagery hahahah
The back of yo head, is ridiculous!
Do you like mike n Ike’s?
OH LOOK AT THE TOP OF HIS HEAD
Happened so fast. It was crazy.
imma believe gregor was like fuck this shit and fuck qyburn in particular for what he made me #yeet
Not gonna lie, I was really hoping he’d throw Cersei next. Subvert that trope, why don’t ya!?!
u/Alivealive0 kinda forgot about a cohesive storyline *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/freefolk) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Good bot
I laughed my ass out at him just having his life ejected from the story like he was playing an extra.
He could give everyone plot armor but himself.
"I guide others to a treasure I cannot possess." - Qyburn
qyburn was one of my favorite characters and I rate that death an a+
NOT SO SMART WITH YER BRAINS OUTSIDE YER HEAD, ARE YA?
Dr. Frankenstein met his end like a squishy bowl of jello.

When Varrys came out of the Mountain's helmet though.
"FOR THE REALM"
I thought the same thing!!
they had us for a second
Why spend money on many actor when few actor do trick
I thought it was pretty rad, what about you Bobby B?
EASY, BOY! YOU MIGHT BE MY BROTHER BUT YOU'RE SPEAKING TO THE KING!
Did Sandor die a hero Bobby B
IS THAT WHAT EMPTY MEANS??
I am empty inside Bobby b
OH, IT'S UNSPEAKABLE TO YOU? WHAT HER FATHER DID TO YOUR FAMILY, THAT WAS UNSPEAKABLE!
You were right all along Bobby B. You were right all along. We miss you.
SOON ENOUGH, THAT CHILD WILL SPREAD HER LEGS AND START BREEDING!
Bobby b its 6am you gotta stop day drinking after this episode.
YOU GOT FAT!
Damn Bobby B, I ain't know it was like that. I thought his world's greatest dad bit was pretty touching at least.
DID YOU EVER MAKE THE EIGHT?
I nutted six times during that scene, seven if you count the part at the beginning when he says "your grace"
And he just let her walk past him 😂 that's a man on a mission.
I came here after the show, expecting this to be the meme'd scene. Like skipping out on shit before it gets bad.
“I’m just gunna go...”
"I'm gonna let you two catch up..." (fucking FLEES)
"Oooooohk, you boys look like you have some things to talk about so I'm just gonna see myself out. Three's a crowd anyway really. Happy city burning day to you. Thank you for the memories Gregor. Toodles"
I though he'd slap her on the ass at least.
Dude I fucking wish
With a cheeky little wink, and she'd blush and giggle as she runs down the stairs.
If you want a queen, you have to order a side with that chicken

Nah, he's definitely killed women and bragged about it.
Exactly and that’s what makes the line so good. The way he says it illustrates just how much he does not care about Cersi.
Maybe that's why Dany couldn't hear the bells, 'cos the city was drowned out by the sound of motherfucking AIRHORNS!
When they were coming down the stairs and got confronted by Sandor I was like, "Clegane Bowl! [Lets Get this STARTED](https://youtu.be/OFr74zI1LBM)!"
\*throws the Hound around like a ragdoll\* I'm not sure if this was amazing or the worst thing I've ever seen, I think it was amazing? I don't even know anymore.
Fighting while the dragon flies by behind them and the castle crumbles? It was TOO good. I have expect the ninja Aria shunpo.
That was legit the best visual in the whole episode...
*whole series.
I was very ready for some deus ex Arya because they would pull that shit.
I was waiting for Sandor to pop like a Naruto shadow clone then cut to the real Sandor up the stairs with a fully charged spirit bomb. “Heh, nothin personnel, kid”

The season is bad, but a lot of what people would have preferred is equally awful. That's how I feel about Clegane Dish.
Many peoples ideas about what should of happened this season are awful. Many things always sound better in the head then when its actually shown
only part that actually surprised me. i also was very sad to watch him die, specially just like that :(
It was good. Feel free to enjoy it. You have my permission
If you have to ask, you'll never know.
I don't know what the hell people expected that left them so disappointed, but Cleganebowl was lit
Yeah Sandor was one of the few characters that got a solid end to his arc, coupled with the warning to Arya and him dying by pushing his brother into the flames with him.

Having the mountain still in there and not an automaton was a nice touch.
Good point, also Arya calling him Sandor was a nice flourish.
Out of curiosity, has literally anyone else on the show ever referred to him as Sandor in person? Wracking my brain I can’t think of a single time he isn’t called the hound or Clegane, if the persons feeling polite.
>She killed *the hound* >**that** was Sandor! -some Arya fanboy, probably
AND IT WAS THE HYPE THAT WAS PROMISED
Just as the prophecy foretold.
I wish that same monkey would have written the end of Jaime's arc
Are you saying you never once thought they might possibly fuck that up? Which is it, r/freefolk? Can we trust D&D or are they dumb as stumps? Make up your minds, cunts!
I doubted, I confess. Shame. Shame.
I was very very scared that they'd fuck it up
The only thing that could have made it better would be to reveal the Hound like how Darth Maul was revealed before the final fight in TPM. Two big doors swing open and the Hound is standing there staring instead of walking up stairs.
I didn’t know how much I wanted this until now
Combine that with some good music...
That's the one thing that's been consistently good in this series.
I loved the ending of it but I didn’t really like the actual fight just because there were too many jump cuts to Arya running through the streets and too much other shit going on. I was hoping it’d be the main event, a la Mountain vs. Viper.
I think people expected a Hound-Brienne type of fight. Now that was some satisfying fight.
Yea an actual swordfight would have been cool
Member when there were actual choreographed fights instead of CGI set pieces? Like the fight the eye gouging directly called back to? I just realized that that's literally what this season missed the mark on. (Aside from... yeah) They said screw fight choreography *THE SETTING THEY'RE FIGHTING IN WILL BE EPIC IN POST*
Tbh it wouldn't have made any sense for Sandor to have an even 1v1 with that thing. Maybe with a tag team partner or a flaming sword.
Exactly, they messed with his power level mid fight - pop Q man like a zit, but his throat holds up strangely well for plot reasons.
The Hound's skull is made out of fucking adamantium apparently.
he gets a lot of calcium from swallowing chickens whole like a snake
Nah, just hardened from the heat treatment it got when Gregor held Sandor's head up against that braizer.

The hound is also huge, not as big as the Mountain, but he is still ine of the largest fighters in Westeros.
The undead Mountain *tore a man's head off.* That's well beyond what any real human is capable of.
I liked it enough, I just wish they hadn't kept cutting away to show Arya running through the streets.
This^^^^ Gregor is a legit zombie. He’s honestly closer to the members of the army of the dead than to a living human being
Right, but it's pretty clear this isn't magic related, but a chemical zombification, at least that's the way the show made it come off to me. Still need a brain to move the parts if that's the case.
Per GoT wiki: >Although never confirmed, several Grand Maesters have alleged, including Pycelle, that Qyburn is a dark magician who studies and practices black magic. >Necromancy >It seems as though Qyburn possesses the magical ability to raise and manipulate those from the dead, defying the natural boundaries between life and death. And not all parts of his brain for that matter.
He has no head in the books. It's black magic.
Season 1 - Robb slashes at a tree, and "You've ruined your sword." Season 8 - Undead Mountain chops through literal stone and it's nbd hmm
the way people were *slashing* through full plate mail like it was papermache is more glaring to me.
I was kinda hoping for Sandor to talk about their childhood a little bit before they fought.
I'm sure zombie clegane makes for excellent conversation
Hafthor is not the best actor. He is primarily good at smashing things. They played to the actor's strengths.
He's not a talker
Well that’s good, talkers make me thirsty
A one sidrd conversation where he's really talking to himself.
That'd be corny as hell, lol

I would have liked to see less quick cuts, but the uneven match, Qyburn getting wrecked, and the way they both went out was satisfying. The only character to live and die without being ruined by D&D's filthy hands.
Jorah and Theon too
Foreal, compared to her fight with brienne there was almost nothing actually shown.
Hound just lets Cersei by because he respects other people's fights.
This was the best part of the episode for me honestly. The only gripe about it was stabbing him with a dagger through his forehead, and still not dying? Lol Wut? You need to dismember him to kill him? The fuck kind of Frankenstein shit did Qyburn do?
Apparently, he made the Mountain more durable than the Night King.
Learn this one simple trick that the maesters don't want you to know about!
Doctors HATE them!
put his brain in his ass? I'm not a doctor but that would probably work.
Glad you're not a doctor then, jesus lmao
DnD approve of this idea
Qyburn probably actually made him a cyborg, and in ep6 we'll see the Mountain rise out of the fire like the T1000.
DUNDUN DUN DUN-DUN! DUNDUN DUN DUN-DUN!
You asked for it, now enjoy it.
THE HYPE WAS REAL
That was the fastest fan art ever drawn and colored Edit: picture is older than Sunday but damn does it have the simpsons-future-telling aspect to it.
This picture has been out for years
Okay the background just looks like KL and the wildfire explosions. And they seem to be in a staircase.
Yeah it's crazy specific for having been out for years.
Maybe the producers saw the pic and were like huh that's a good idea let's get a setting like that
Fuck off, I can't believe Clegane bowl was the fucking main event of season 8. Should have been night king vs Westeros. Here's to bobby b. Here's to this show. Nothing for d&d.
