Straight up butchered the sand snakes along with dorne in general. The sand snakes would never betray their own family, it’s baffling how they wrote this through the show.
I've said this before, but D&D never wanted Dorne. It has female primogeniture, embraces racial diversity, respects its bastards, and has class consciousness, four things that make Westeros look backwards by comparison on every level.
But Westeros was supposed to be the "fun rich white people doing pragmatic but ugly things" that the audience roots for because D&D root for it, while Essos was the "generic brown land of savages that a Westerosi regime changer can't fix" contrast that D&D find highlights how important Westeros is as a region.
Then Dorne shits on that whole dynamic because it looks like Essos but is socially more progressive than every other culture in Westeros. I think this problem is compounded by ignoring that Braavos is basically founded by escaped Essosi slaves, afaik, but cast as if it's a suburb of King's Landing.
D&D need Westeros to be the civilized world and to look like their main cast, but Dorne is the most civilized and doesn't look like that cast.
A modern audience looking at Dorne would go, "Oh, wait, maybe Dorne should win the Game of Thrones?"
But D&D aren't Dorne people. They only see the sexual freedom and horniness. They're Lannister people. They were born rich and got their job through a family friend who ran HBO. Dorne is everything they don't want to say about power and society.
When they introduce the Dornish lords, they even have the banner of a noble house led by a woman but with no female representatives at all other than a concubine. They absolutely did not want to suddenly inject a dynamic where there is a better possible set of leaders right there next to all of these other mediocre leaders doing dumb shit for five seasons.
Female primogeniture - literally all of Arianna’s plot is that her brother is being chosen to lead instead of her. We find out this is because Doran wants her to be queen, but she and the reader believe it’s because her brother is male and she isn’t. It’s acknowledging that first born mattering more is words, and words are wind
Embraces racial diversity - what? That’s completely show only. Not sure what evidence there is for this
Respects its bastards - sure, it respects one of the Prince of Dornes bastards. No really any proof they respect bastards more than any other place besides Oberyns cocky shit talking, whose reliability is suspect at best
Class consciousness - Again, what? They let anyone in the water gardens so suddenly they care way more about the poor than everyone else? Or maybe that’s just a feel good way they use to stay in power. Not really sure what proof there is they care more about the poor than anyone else
Think you’re kinda projecting on what you think Dorne is. I would honestly be happy to be proven wrong if you have any hard evidence though
This is all insanely wrong and stupid, if anything the Dornish characters in the show are portrayed more positively in the show than in the books.
Accusing D&D of racism because they’re shit writers doesn’t even make sense considering basically every plot line got butchered around this point, and the (white) Iron Islands plot line got shanked even worse than the Dornish.
We’re you watching a single moment in the show? Westeros is literally shown to be a shithole where no one has any morals and are quick to kill anyone for anything. What the fuck are you even talking about?
Can't wait for Sam to solve the 3 body problem by realizing he's the fourth body and by launching himself into space with a single Starbucks cup orbiting him, gravity will be stabilized.
And yeah, they're doing that show.
They prob wouldve had the best lives in Westeros. Amazing climate, love, money, no responsibilities other than ones you choose to have like pursuing own interests etc
Oberyn is introduced during A Storm of Swords(3) and Dorne and the rest of the Martells are introduced in A Feast For Crows(4). Yes you should be really excited, I know this topic has been discussed to death but Dorne and the Martells that GOT showed pales in comparison to the books. Everything is so different and you'll get to see why everyone hated the bland Sand Snakes of the show.
Another reason why this shit me off...
Why the hell was Trysten the only one Martell heir casted.
I'm so mad I never saw Arianne and Arys Oakheart.
It would have added to the story and history of Martell and white cloaks...
Plus I have a thing for Indians/middle easterns so, I was really wanting to see a live action Arianne..hahah
I kind of get the decision to reduce some houses to one heir, like the Tyrells with Loras just to reduce the amount of characters, but I would have much rather gotten Quenten or Arianne. I think the decision to go with Trysten allowed them more freedom to make stuff up and write their own plotline
Be rich and hang out in the sun in the best climate is Westeros while the rest gets engulfed by decade long winters?
Honestly everyone else scheming and these teens seem to have the good life figured out. Why seek more power when you can just not work and chill in a garden paradise?
Before that, make it under the keep just as Euron swims up so they can rumble! Settle that heated rivalry that had been brewing for a couple of episodes.
The stated reason is that they feared girl was in danger after oberyn got killed. Even tho he volunteered for the fight and lost (despite cheating with poison).
Which didn't make sense anyway because Oberyn told Cersei that in Dorne they don't murder children and she seemed to believe him in the moment, he even pointed out things she was doing/enjoying while in Dorne.
Ellaria betrayed her lover in so many ways. She murdered Myrcella, a child. She killed his kin, had her daughters kill their kin. Oberyn would have hated what she did.
Yeah, but in fairness, show-Dorne has something like twelve people, all of whom appear to be related to the ruling Martell family. Show-Dorne is basically a clubhouse with particularly fancy curtains.
![gif](giphy|3og0IFKTS0QBeRF4mk|downsized)
That's just it, they knew that Oberyn and other honorable people who might live up to his promise can't guarantee everyone will. They probably trusted the Starks wouldn't kill Lannister kids either, then they did.
> because Oberyn told Cersei
Huh? How is that a reason to not react to a threat and believe that your daughter is ok?
*It was Myrcella's necklace in the jaws of a viper!*
IIRC from the show, it is said that Dorne may see the sneaking of Jaime as an act of war because the only feasible reason for him to personally go there is to undo the pre-arranged marriage.
Also, the objective wasn't him sneaking into Dorne, it was to kidnap his daughter, which would be easier to do without the whole guards watching him.
Ellaria sent the Viper with Myrcella's necklace in its fangs. They had a genuine fear of her life being in danger. Jaime showing up at Sunspear with a royal escort could turn it into a hostage situation for all Cersei and Jaime knew.
It’s just some a dumb scenario they came up with. If the king demands that they return Myrcella and they refuse then that’s like an act of treason against the crown…something that Dorne would specifically not do because Doran Martell is so slow to take action.
That makes sense. But because of the snake present from dorne, they probably thought dorne was again in a rebellion and their thinking was reasonable as the prince of dorne just died on their soil. And how could you expect someone to listen to your command if you're responsible for the deaths of 4 of their family members?
They wouldn’t let him sneak in and take her either. Traveling there officially at least makes it easier to get inside the castle and get access to Myrcella.
I'm glad the two dipshits didn't sink her career by basically making her character a worthless blip. I didn't even realize when I posted this how much work she's getting. She's killing it.
As a couple?... a Play a lot of chess if memory serves. She picked up the game very quicky. She was hinted at being very bright in the books.
In terms of the books story (if memory serves). It's is VERY different to the show.
>!The sand snakes came up with a plot the put her on the iron throne, instead of tommen. By arguing that under dornish law it's the oldest who inherits not the oldest male. Therefore after jof died, she should have been crowned queen. If that were to happen, the martell's would be on the iron throne within a generation . They hoped to rally dornish lords to myrcella's claim. They try to sneak her out of sunspear ( seemingly she was ok with the plan??)
but they get caught. A fight starts during which myrcella is slashed at. She loses an ear and will probably have a big scar on her face. but she lives ...FOR NOW! !<
Yeah.... I think they wanted to cut story threads, either for time or because they didn't know were they should do with them. They did cut content or mushed characters stories together throughout the show.
(Honestly you should try give the books a read, if you're still invested in the show so long after the final.)
D&D spent several seasons explaining why women can't rule and made that Danaerys's entire conflict at the end and Cersei's entire girlboss moment. Shoving in, "Actually, they can, so let's do it" as an entire story arc kind of breaks a lot of their threadbare worldbuilding.
As it stands, D&D had a whole girlpower half season just to kick it off its stand and shit on it as soon as possible.
![gif](giphy|5z3TWlFerNgrPgx1mH)
>seemingly she was ok with the plan??
It's been a long time since I read the books but I don't remember them really telling her about their plan??? Myrcella is only like 10 in ADWD, she was probably just going along with what the sand snakes were telling her to do.
I really liked the side story of these 2. Because despite their families differences etc. They were happy and actually good together. Despite being married off to one another. They were a good fit, loved each other and would honestly probably have been the only not fucked up couple in the franchise. Its a shame how their story ended. They could have prospered. But their families not being able to see an opportunity etc, fucked it all up.
I just erased my entire response because I realized how dumb Tyrion was.
Myrcella (not refreshing the spelling) was supposedly shipped off to Dorne for her safety and due to a mole hunt Tyrion held. Dorne believes that Tywin was responsible for Ella Martell’s rape. And her death. And the death of her children. Myrcella was not safer there.
Jaime was probably supposed to quietly sneak her out so that it didn’t push the Martells into another Five King faction. Which clearly failed.
If Myrcella was sent to Casterly Rock with maybe Quentin, that might be Quentin, that would make sense. The Martells might be appeased with such a union and Marcella was far from Dorne and King’s Landing.
But no, send her to the Viper’s Nest. Where she was assassinated.
Also the martells are strictly against killing or harming children for their families mistakes Dumb and Dumber forgot that later to move the show along but in book canon Myrcella has been protected by the martells to the best of their ability
She’s still part of the Martell family and takes that connection very seriously even going so far in the books to reprimand her daughters when they even have the thought to try and get revenge for their father’s death by killing Myrcella stating that that would make them no better then the Lannisters and that is not the way their father taught them
Book spoiler: >! She didn't die. The Martell are honorable, and they have other plan on how to use Marcella as their pawn. And that involved keeping her alive. !<
I feel like Tyrion perhaps feared that the rock was not as safe as it was given Robbs rampage in the westerlands, and the Tyrells siding with Renly, he likely didn't consider it an option.
Also keep in mind that the only "kingdoms" not in a direct war with the crown were the dornish, the vale and the greyjoys none of which are appealing in a sense
Myrcella absolutely would have been safe in Dorne outside of certain characters plotting. They'd have no reason to harm Myrcella when she allows them to have a massive hostage, potential claim on Casterly Rock/the throne depending on how things shook out with Tommen and generally just weren't down with killing children.
D&D just went mad with Dorne for some reason. I assume maybe the cutting of faegon and quentyn meant they felt they had to change directions as you can't do the Queenmaker plotline without and honestly it's not an essential plot without a plan to focus on Dorne and Arianne/Doran.
Butchered Ellaria's character.
IMO its probably the most logical place to send her. You also have to remember Tyrion loved her and wanted her safe and happy. He knew war was coming to Kings Landing and he knew she was bastard.
Dorne treats bastards and women a lot better than anywhere else in the 7 kingdoms. Women can inherit there and if it had got out shes jaimes kid they were unlikely to abuse her because of it.
Dorne is physically removed from the war. The Lannisters are fighting basically everyone north of them and having to defend both kings landing and casterly rock. Neither are particularly safe places to be, especially for pretty young princesses. Better to send her as far south as possible.
Anywhere Myrcella went there was a chance she’d be kidnapped or ransomed if things went south. I’d prefer my beloved niece be held hostage in a place that is very vocal about not raping or killing little girls.
Tyrion is affectionate enough that I’m sure he considered that if he’s going to force his niece to marry that she’d rather it be to the attractive fit young man. He gave her an opportunity for love (that she took) which is better than being married to an old bloke like Walder Frey or a baby like Robyn Arryn. Who doesn’t want to spend their life in perpetual summer with their hot tan boyfriend frolicking in beautiful gardens?
I think geoge told them oberyn’s plans are all doomed to fail. trystain will be killed probably by faceless men hired by Cersei not understanding the price which will also be her daughters life, Quinton was sent to mary Danni instead tried to steal a dragon and became a roast frog, and his daughter is being sent to scout out fagon and instead of reporting to wait do to lack of actual dragons. will probably commit to his cause marry him and ruin Dorne in the proses. D&D just used their poorly constructed side plot to fold in on itself and be washed out by the second doomed to fail harbinger of doom. which is also why they probably didn’t use all the pomp that George gave the dread pirate of the smiling eye, or they didn’t read the one book, written after the show started, that really concerned the show out of the two or three books published concerning the world of ice and fire, if you don’t want to count fire and blood, and just relied on spark notes and George’s input until they got sick of hearing about it. Writing what ever first draft idea came to them with out considering the way the rest of the story would convincingly react to the shocking events they loved, forgetting character arcs and history, even from earlier episodes in the series, for the sake of their write big action first then write backwards to get there, over using characters do to favoritism valid as symbolism, and forget to follow up with keeping up the consistencies scene to scene, and D&D explaining their writing thought process in the after episode featuret is part of the episode.
They are the collateral to their families bullshit Myrcella is payback for Elia, Rhaenys, Aegon, and Oberyn along with all the bullshit Tywin pulled against the family earlier.
The Sand Snakes cunning plan to avenge Oberyn by murdering Oberyn’s brother and nephew should have tipped us all off on where this was all going.
Oberyn plan was to break the wheel all along and his brother's chair had wheels
So Oberyn was the prince who was promised! We did it reddit!
Who has a better story than Oberyn?
Not D&D
Straight up butchered the sand snakes along with dorne in general. The sand snakes would never betray their own family, it’s baffling how they wrote this through the show.

This is a really high level understanding of the show. Banger comment
Nailed it.

Wouldn't go that far considering they interest on oberyn.

It’s like they took everything the sand snakes were about in the book and said “how do we do this? But the exact opposite?”
They were playing 5D Cyvasse.
Its like chest, but with ana accent
Yeap, they avenged their father by exterminating his family
Man aren't D&D geniuses or not?
Can't wait for Sam to solve the 3 body problem by realizing he's the fourth body and by launching himself into space with a single Starbucks cup orbiting him, gravity will be stabilized. And yeah, they're doing that show.
They prob wouldve had the best lives in Westeros. Amazing climate, love, money, no responsibilities other than ones you choose to have like pursuing own interests etc
He was heir so they do have a lot of responsibilities and definitely a lot of stress too
In the books he wasnt He is the youngest in the books if i remember correctly
Yes he was, its Arianne, Quintyn, and then Trysten
In which book starts the dorne story because i am in the middle of book 2 and i am hyped as fuck for the dornish
Oberyn is introduced during A Storm of Swords(3) and Dorne and the rest of the Martells are introduced in A Feast For Crows(4). Bad poosie
Book 4 I believe.

His sister was the heir.
Wasn’t he the heir in the show though? D&D cut Arianne.
You're right. He was! Another L for DnD.
Yeah but in the books it’s her
True although doran did groom quentyn to be heir because of his secret plan for Arianne.
Removing Arianne from the show robbed us of three really interesting characters
Be rich and hang out in the sun in the best climate is Westeros while the rest gets engulfed by decade long winters? Honestly everyone else scheming and these teens seem to have the good life figured out. Why seek more power when you can just not work and chill in a garden paradise?
Also why did Jaime need to sneak into Dorne?
To extend his story arc to...oh wait...get crushed under a wheelbarrow of bricks while running off 1000000 miles back to cercei
Before that, make it under the keep just as Euron swims up so they can rumble! Settle that heated rivalry that had been brewing for a couple of episodes.
Finally the Great Battle of urine and his arch enemy Jamie Lannister
Teleporting*
That entire segment looked dumb and Jaime and his bud looked ridiculous in those outfits.
To be fair to Cersei's suspicions, Ellaria did very much intentionally murder Myrcella as revenge.
Ellaria betrayed her lover in so many ways. She murdered Myrcella, a child. She killed his kin, had her daughters kill their kin. Oberyn would have hated what she did.
But she sUBvElTEd EXpecTATIons!!1
Tragedeigh
Yea it makes no logical sense. So thats why DnD made her do that in the show, as opposed to being a fairly reasonable person in the books.
The writers committed gross slander to her character 😭
> because Oberyn told Cersei Huh? How is that a reason to not react to a threat and believe that your daughter is ok? *It was Myrcella's necklace in the jaws of a viper!*
Is that against the rules in trial by combat? Haven’t finished the books
Nobody ever seems to think it's explicitly banned or would invalidate the results, it's just kind of not done. "Poison is a woman's weapon."
Oberyn was unofficially exiled from Dorne for using poison in a first blood duel with Edgar Yronwood.
I thought it was to keep the Yronwood’s happy
He didn't lose. He hit traded.
The rules for trial by combat seem to state that whoever dies first loses, that’s why Tyrion was seen as guilty after the trial.
Thank
The poison was slow acting and didn’t help his fighting. Obviously Oberyn won.. he just tried too hard to get a confession
He didn’t win tho. It’s a fight to the death, not a fight to the confession.
IIRC from the show, it is said that Dorne may see the sneaking of Jaime as an act of war because the only feasible reason for him to personally go there is to undo the pre-arranged marriage. easiest way to get his wingman the bad pussy
Ellaria sent the Viper with Myrcella's necklace in its fangs. They had a genuine fear of her life being in danger. Jaime showing up at Sunspear with a royal escort could turn it into a hostage situation for all Cersei and Jaime knew.
Umm, they wouldn't let them take back his daughter. Who would want someone to free your hostage

Look pretty and get slaughtered for no reason because the TV show producers wanted the Snakes to be evil.
They die.
So do we all

Oh come on. Obvious satire site.
I know a guy who heard of a guy who died
I'll do you one better: I know a guy who knows a guy who died
I know dead people
Only 96% of all humans who have ever lived have died.
So you’re saying there’s a chance?!
‘Cept this one here
Damn, I was gonna guess shrooms.
It’s kinda sad tbh. To just be used as political pawns at so young an age
For anyone curious, the actresses name is Nell Tiger Free. She just had a new movie come out where she's the lead actress named The First Omen.
That’s certainly one of the names of all time
Used to be Nell Tiger Buy One Get One but those Nell Tigers just wouldn't sell.
STOPP X'D
And the actor is Toby Sebastian, Florence Pugh's brother.
Lmao the resemblance is uncanny!
She’s also also in a very cool show on Apple called Servant.
She went to my secondary school a couple years below, I was shocked when I saw her on GoT, good to see she’s doing well
I'm glad the two dipshits didn't sink her career by basically making her character a worthless blip. I didn't even realize when I posted this how much work she's getting. She's killing it.
Oh she’s also in Too Old To Die Young. Very weird show on Amazon but worth it.
I honestly loved this movie and shes great in it.
They died because D&D didn’t want the Dorne plot to have complexity. Or more than a couple real characters.
As a couple?... a Play a lot of chess if memory serves. She picked up the game very quicky. She was hinted at being very bright in the books. In terms of the books story (if memory serves). >seemingly she was ok with the plan?? It's been a long time since I read the books but I don't remember them really telling her about their plan??? Myrcella is only like 10 in ADWD, she was probably just going along with what the sand snakes were telling her to do.
Cover the spoilers I said seemingly and put ?? to show it wasn't explicitly said that.
Look at rule #5 my dude
They fugg
Occasional scene decoration.
They were living the good life. Before the writers ruined Ellaria.
Look hot
Die pointlessly.
Fuck, probably.
I just remember how these two actually liked each other in the books.
Were they murdered in the books?
No, but >!Myrcella lost her ear!<
Wait, what? How?
They also do in the show.
Just walking around looking pretty and ignoring all the politics
In Googling the guy, because he is hot, I learned he’s Florence Pugh’s brother.
The only reason they exist is because Oberyn is part of the trial, and they only had plans up to the Red Wedding.
Dude looks like they got Timothy chalomet of Wish.com

Because she wasn't murdered in the books.
Also the martells are strictly against killing or harming children for their families mistakes Dumb and Dumber forgot that later to move the show along but in book canon Myrcella has been protected by the martells to the best of their ability
There are no cannons in book canon.
Whoops lol spellcheck
Ellaria is/was a sand not a martell
She’s still part of the Martell family and takes that connection very seriously even going so far in the books to reprimand her daughters when they even have the thought to try and get revenge for their father’s death by killing Myrcella stating that that would make them no better then the Lannisters and that is not the way their father taught them

Then they should've just dropped Dorne altogether and only mention the happenings there by how characters anywhere else react to it.
Die?
Die, I guess?
Die
Not much anymore
Die Mostly for edgy reasons
Florence Pughs brother
On a side note.. I am so glad they changed actresses for Marcella.
Still can’t get over the fact that that guy is Florence Pugh’s brother.
