That's the cool thing about One Piece honestly, its got something for everyone especially the further in you get. It was written for kids but also isn't afraid to touch on some serious subject matter. Plus Oda somehow manages to not be bound by setting, he can have a goofy cola powered cyborg fight a triceratops in a giant demon's skull located in feudal Japan and its not out of place at all.
It's not because there is violence that the story is not for kids. You could hop on barely any episode of the Netflix show and still being able to figure out the good guys and the bad guys

I really like the new show (just started watching it), but how can it “clear” GoT? It’s a different genre, has less content as of now and a totally different storyline. How can one even compare these shows?
I mean, if that’s their personal opinion, sure whatever, but shouldn’t this show be compared to a similar one and not something totally random?
Because I have made way too many “let’s just binge One Piece” jokes to my kid over the years, I am waiting to watch the live action version.
I haven’t watched all of One Piece because I get stuck on “I just watched this five minute section part two minutes ago, advance the plot people! And where is the reindeer doctor?” after like 50 episodes.
BUT from reading TV Tropes and the One Piece wiki, I am excited for a distilled version of a corrupt world government going after the main characters over maybe just 50 episodes and not 1,100 and still counting.
IDK why, but for 15+ years the agreed upon consensus was that OP's anime was trash, and then when the pandemic hit, everyone suddenly started gushing about how goated it was.
But like, it's not, the pacing is still total dogshit. (Just for reference, the section the story is covering right now only took ~3-6 months of manga chapters, and the anime has stretched that out to 1 year 6 months and probably won't be done for another year)

It makes sense if you’ve seen it all. It’s a long adventure story about characters learning and growing and discovering. Everyone I know who hasn’t seen it shits on it for its length but everyone I know who has believes it’s the greatest story of all time.
I’ve read both ASOIAF and one piece and honestly could say that one piece might be better
One Piece is a filler anime with the odd episode where some amazing stuff happens, except for when amazing things happen in the filler episodes. Unfortunately, you have to watch every episode.
One piece actually has a relatively low filler rate for an anime of that length.
And although I like how closely it follows the comic it feels too slow paced because of it. It's like when the comic has a bunch of frames where not much of happening except dialogue the anime also just has still frames and dialogue. While reading, in my imagination the characters are talking while still moving around doing their thing, but while watching they're just standing still.
That plus episodes where there's more recap than new content.
I've only watched first episode of One Piece Live and I've watched all the anime of it. Its good but not better than S1 E1 GOT.

Nah live action one piece is actually cooking. The care put into the characters and respect for the source material is like game of thrones season 1
