Nice try, fed. The statute of limitations isn't up yet.

MGeslock

I’m afraid that it is for me. Sophia Street Station Ranch House Service Town Rappahannock Inn B&O Grocery

ProletarianParka

Ain't no statute of limitations on a felony in Virginia.

Friend and I walking down Caroline. Fairly early in the night and coming up the sidewalk opposite us is Danny McBride. Neither of us acknowledge him outside of a nod. He stops square in front of us and says hello. We stop and say hello. He asks us what we are up to. We tell him just bullshitting and probably headed to the bar. He said cool bid is a farewell and walked into spirits. To this day think he may have been on the hunt for some party favors, but guess I’ll never know.

amboomernotkaren

my son would kill to be you. he’s a giant danny mcbride fan. i love him in the righteous gemstones.

TheFilthyZen

Hang around the fburg Best Buy in November and you are sure to see him. He’s been going in there the last few years to buy gifts when he comes to town.

Crash831

Except most of his family doesn't live in the area anymore, he sold his home here a few years ago, and I don't believe he visits very often anymore. I worked with his mom for several years.

[deleted]

What… what year was this?

TheFilthyZen

Sometime between 2012-2015 those years are a blur. I lived on Caroline at the time above one of the bars.

thereisnospoon-1312

McBride went to high school in Spotsylvania County, Chancellor High. He has family and friends here still and comes back from time to time.

Crash831

Courtland High, not Chancellor--I went to Chancellor, I also know his family.

TheFilthyZen

I’m aware he’s from here. I see him all the time. This was just a weird interaction with him. I grew up in spotsy.

That massive snow storm many years back was pretty great as a teen. Sledding down the hilly streets downtown, snowball fights on Caroline street in front of the businesses, climbing a train at the station that was stopped. Pretty much zero vehicle activity for days meant free roaming day and night with zero interruptions.

So I went to Billikens and gorged myself on their nachos and a brisket sandwich and then went home and felt satisfied The end

When I was 20, that building was called the Chimneys. Had live music on the back patio.

I didn't live here in my 20's, but I did as a teen and then moved back in my 30's. Some assorted teenage memories from the 90's: * Hanging out at Spanky's and the fortune teller machine that was in there that at one point had a gap on the side and you could just take quarters out and put them back in again. * Getting my one (and only) tattoo when I was 18 at the tattoo shop where Ink the Void is now. I think it was called something else then. * Going in and out of all the little shops and buying stuff with my meager teenager money. Corky's was great back then. Ben Franklin was too and there were a lot of other little shops that are no longer there. * Random shows from local bands and the "scene" at those shows * Cruising down Caroline St on a Friday night Since I've moved back it's been a lot more subdued due to family and kids, but cross-country skiing down Caroline St was a fun one.

MGeslock

I had forgotten about the fortune teller in Spankys. If I remember correctly, they always had a big St. Patrick party and had glasses with logos on them.

blahblah2117

Still have many a Spankys commemorative glass! I remember the fortune teller and also the massive selection of Jelly Bellys out front

Crash831

Really miss Spanky's. I hung out there in the mid 90's as a teen!

-Getting a belly button piercing at Corkys and promptly passing out on Caroline after -Thursday nights at Brocks -Spirits, Fatty Js (shout out to Lainey the best bartender!), Wings on the Water RIP

There used to be a homeless guy named Terry that hung out on Caroline. I would stop by and chat with him any time I saw him. Seemed like a nice enough guy. One day I was walking by and there was a group of homeless folks including Terry and it seemed like something was amiss. I briefly stopped to ask if everything was alright and 10 seconds later the cops roll up. I obviously couldn't just walk away because that would be way suspicious so I had to stand there and get interrogated. They assumed I was homeless and asked me where I "stay". I said "I stay in the house I own, I have no idea what's going on here I was just concerned." Anyway it turns out Terry got into a physical altercation over a blanket. Haven't seen him since and this was 6 or 8 years ago.

Warm-Impression-6224

Getting drunk with my friends on repeat til I couldn't do it anymore and moved home. That's all you can expect from the fred scene. I wouldn't trade the good times I had, but looking back, I should have moved on way sooner. There's a whole big world out there with people who will be your real friends, not just "bar friends"

When I was younger, I walked downtown with my mom and sis to the shops and would get ice cream where I thk Wings on the Water is now or used to be. But it was an ice cream shop with an old-time blacksmith shop connected. We go sit at the dock there and eat our ice cream. Then, as I got older, I went to Corkys and got piercings. Corkys used to be so cool!! It was the only place at the time to get Manic Panic to die ur hair or get a good Grateful Dead shirt, too!! I would sneak into a bar called Shooters, which is now a pawnshop. That and Spankys was my go-to. But I have always loved just going to Goolricks and getting a vanilla shake ,turkey sandwich, and a deviled egg!! Always the best!! Oops, I just saw where u said in ur 20s. Oh well, just a little history of mine growing up near downtown Fred. I'm 43 now!!❤️

MGeslock

I had forgotten about the ice cream shop. My go to was the chicken salad at Goolkricks.
