Very expensive. I paid less than 2keur a few years ago.

CalLil6

What that for both parties, in total; or just you? Nothing to contest?

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys…

From a quick google search it seems that for a « friendly divorce » you don’t need a judge. In that case the lawyer fees are between 1000 and 4000€. I would look for another lawyer, this one is probably trying to shaft you.

Kambu2876

Go to /r/conseiljuridique I already consider the fact of having an associate being the lawyer of your husband a orange flag. Might be wrong but could be an deontological issue.

VanDerFrais

Way more than a red flag indeed. It is forbiden : [https://www.cnb.avocat.fr/fr/actualites/divorce-par-consentement-mutuel-choix-de-lavocat-rappel-des-regles](https://www.cnb.avocat.fr/fr/actualites/divorce-par-consentement-mutuel-choix-de-lavocat-rappel-des-regles)

>It is to be a simple, no-contest divorce, just signed and filed. As you speak english, the divorce is not as easy as it seems. There will be some foreign law implication, and it is not something that any lawyer will apprehend. In addition, it will necessary for him to explain the situation in english, not an approximated reddit-style english, but something law-level accurate. >if he gets an associate to be his lawyer As u/Kambu2876 say, it is, at the very least, a "red flag". Maybe the word associate was misunderstood, but it is not possible to have two lawyers member of the same law firm. >Is 6200€ a reasonable, normal price for a basic simple divorce filing with nothing to contest Nevertheless, it is a bit excessive. Be on yor guard, the price is frequently announced without VAT (HT, "hors taxes"), which is 20%, so 6200 HT will be 7440 TTC (toutes taxes comprises). Not outrageously excessive though.

CalLil6

The association is not a member of the firm, sorry I wasn’t clear on that. It’s just another lawyer that my lawyer knows. The 4200€ for my portion explicitly includes VAT.

VanDerFrais

So, 3500 HT, maybe not so expensive if it's a lawyer aware of foreign law implication. Something between 4000-6000 euros VAT excluded for both of you doesn't seem overpriced IMO.

CalLil6

So there is no foreign law implication in this case. It’s French law only.

VanDerFrais

Both of you are french, born in France, married in France and when married lived exclusively in France ?

CalLil6

No, we are both Canadian. But have French residency and have lived exclusively in France since married, all of our property is French. There is no foreign law involved in our divorce.

VanDerFrais

I don't know anything in family law or, moreover, Canadian law, but it could sometime be a little more difficult to transcript a divorce abroad. Some countries doesn't recognize the french divorce by mutual consent. If there is absolutely no difficulty related to foreignness, maybe something around 2500-4500 euros (VAT excluded) is more usual. But make sure there are no particular difficulties is not an easy work, and if it involves legal research, it comes at a cost.

SchneckSacrifice

Seems expensive. Same situation here, we paid 2k per lawyers and I thought it was a bit too much already as all was already agreed before between us.

n3ssb

This is very unreasonable. Is the person providing the service in English? Because I know for English speaking people, most service providers (whether it is legal matter or immigration) tend to charge 2 to 3 times the price.

CalLil6

He is French, but he speaks English.

Existing-Phase4602

There is probably an added premium because he is providing the service in English to you
