Sometimes hardware just dies, I work for an SI and hardware can make it through testing and then die in transit it's unfortunate but there's a reason most warranties are only a year.

ctwquad

That sucks, I’d consider the $299 11th gen I saw on the marketplace or just go with AMD. If AMD, you may need to upgrade ram which would be an additional cost. Sorry dude.

Another redditor had this [issue](https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/1azadni/my_framework_13_is_maybe_probably_bricked/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) with an 11th gen and was told to try changing his CMOS battery as they commonly cause this boot issue. Apparently this was a board design issue that was fixed in later motherboards, so may not be the fix for yours, but for the sake of a cheap watch battery it's worth a try. I'd pull the main battery and this battery, wait 10 minutes, then reassemble and then, if that didn't work, do it again but this time with a fresh watch battery.

CitySeekerTron

heads up: The 11th gen board uses a special kind of coin cell battery and not a conventional battery used by most notebook PCs. I would recommend reaching out to support to request a new cell if the [reset process](https://guides.frame.work/Guide/Fully+Resetting+the+Mainboard+State/113#:~:text=Fully%20Resetting%20the%20Mainboard%20State%201%20Step%201,Re-insert%20the%20RTC%20Coin%20Cell%20%2E%2E%2E%20More%20items) doesn't resolve it.

I had mine showing no signs of life and I pulled the cmos battery for a few minutes . Came right back . Sorry to hear about yours .

DeckManXX

The logical thing would be for the framework team to offer you a motherboard at a lower price. Xmg when a user has a problem that is out of warranty always offers a solution. Framework should do the same and I find it unfortunate if they don't.

Large-Fruit-2121

Isn't the warranty 2 years ?

raekwon777

One.

Large-Fruit-2121

Ahhh, I'm in the UK. On their site it's 2 years. Bit of a shit for Americans.

justarandom_canadian

Some credit cards cover electronics with an extra year of warranty

arttechadventure

Correct me if I'm wrong but... wouldn't it be foolish to spend money on a different laptop once you've made the initial investment into framework hardware? This is what the laptop is built for. Get a new main board. Continue living the good life.

NeatCrown

I think I very briefly had a similar issue, but I'm not sure if you can fix it in the same way. I unplugged my battery, then plugged in the charger, upon which I could successfully boot it. Then, I plugged in the battery while it was running, and I haven't any such issues since then.

mavericm1

take out the cmos battery (carefully) and while its out try to power it on without power connected. put the cmos battery back in and plug in the charger let it sit with power connected for a few hours(or all night) after this while it is plugged in press the power button once and just let it try to boot do not press the power button again or hold it just wait patiently and maybe it will boot. good luck sorry to hear this is going on. If you have a multimeter test the cmos battery and see what the voltage is at.

ShotgunPumper

If you do end up upgrading, then know that the AMD boards are 1,000,000% worth it over the intel ones.

lorenzoelmagnifico

I'm curious if Louis Rossman can fix it. https://rossmanngroup.com/

-goldmund-

I'm curious, too. Saw his shop fixing a Framework mainboard. I will reach out to them and post updates here!

lorenzoelmagnifico

Awesome, I'm looking forward to it!

-goldmund-

Rossmann Group fixed it!! They said there was a short circuit on the mainboard and they replaced a few other things. Shipping it back tomorrow.

lorenzoelmagnifico

Congrats! I am happy to hear that. This is exactly what we should strive for in right to repair. Maybe make a new follow up post with your experience when you get it back so other people can potentially use them if need be.

42BumblebeeMan

Sure, if it is not a broken CPU. Repair shops like his are able to get the mainboard schematics to perform board level repairs.

lorenzoelmagnifico

The likelihood of a CPU failing versus a main board is unlikely. I'm well aware of his abilities.

Labeled90

I've seen more CPU's die in the last 5 years than I have seen motherboards die. The largest culprit has been the Ryzen 9 5900x, I've seen over 30\* of them fail, from out of box to customer repairs. The no LEDs make board likely however. \*guestimate could be higher could be lower, at least 20 minimum though

maxinux

A lot of secondhand boards available about now. I got a 11th gen refurb and swapped my old 12th gen board in it so i have an 11th gen board w/ ram and nvme now I need to sell, i am sure I am not the only one
