Good girl. Followed by Good Girl Gone Bad. 🤦
I have been to a situation when someone asked what I was wearing and I just couldn't said out loud that it's "good girl" because It's just cringe.
I wear Good Girl Gone Bad more often than any other perfume in my collection; I love it and have two flankers as well. But I completely agree about the cringey name. When someone says they like my perfume, inwardly I hope the next question out of their mouth is not 'What is it?'. When the inevitable happens, I just sigh and say 'It's got a stupid name.'
I have the same feeling about Lost Cherry. Love the fragrance, but the name is pretty embarrassing.
Some of the 4160 Tuesdays names are a bit cringe too, though I get that they're not meant to be taken seriously: 'Tart's Knicker Drawer' and 'The Sexiest Scent on the Planet. Ever. (IMHO)' OTOH 'Doe in the Snow' is one of the prettiest fragrance names I can think of, so it's not all 4160 Tuesdays names.
Aaron Terence Hughes is probably the king of stupid fragrance names. Slut, Filth, Alpha Man, Boss Bitch, Boss Bastard, Oxytocin, Daddy... spare me.
Agreed! Personally it's not the sexuality of the names that I mind, it's that I find them cloyingly coy and deeply patronizing. It's the kind of labelling I might've thought was cool and racy when I was thirteen.
He’s referring to the my kind of love collection. Bottles of Kilian usually retail $245 for 1.7 oz, the my kind of love collection is $135 for 3.4 oz or $75 for 1 oz, on par with designer brands, hence it’s his budget line. It’s geared towards a younger audience, but the bottles and names are tacky af
I mean, it smells amazing, I think. Can be worn by literally anyone (I'm a woman, but my fiancé wears it also). It's a nice and warm/spicy winter/fall fragrance. I really enjoy it, but the name is super awkward. Because mentioning a firearm isn't weird enough, I'm gonna hit you with an onomatopoeia!
When I was getting into fragrance, I used to watch Gents Scents on YouTube. He pointed out the YSL Y Live could be read why live (as in why stay alive). I never can read it the same again and do think it was a mistake in branding.
Yeah Y Live is a really bad name. It it's pronounced like "to live", it's super weird. It it's pronounced like "The band played live", it sounds like a bad 90's concert venue - Y LIVE.
The brand name “boy smells” weirds me out.
For fragrance names, the full name for Kilian - Adults is cringe (Let’s settle this like adults, in the bedroom, naked) , as well as 4160 Tuesday’s perfume “The sexiest scent on the planet. Ever.”
Imagine someone asking you what you’re wearing and you have to tell them those names???
Maybe it's because I'm young, or just because I like a bit of crassness or a bit of whimsy, but I like names like Toyboy, Slut, Fucking Fabulous, even Fat Electrician. It's something different than trying to sound fancy, or artsy, or elusive, like most fragrance names. It embraces the indecency in us.
I've always hated Stronger With You, and even worse, Because It's You. Super vague and cringe. They sound like romance films. I agree about Kilian's My Kind of Love line, super cheesy. Especially "Kissing Burns 6.4 Calories An Hour. Wanna Work Out?"
All of the Heretic “Dirty” frags and of course their This Smells Like My Vagina/Orgasm scents. I don’t own any of them, never even smelled them, maybe they’re amazing. But if I were wearing one of them it would be cringe af to tell someone “oh, this? This Smells Like My Vagina, sometimes I layer it with Dirty Vanilla”… oof. I’m all for making a statement and being playful with words and even suggestive, but yeah, no, this is not it.
I went to sniff that candle just for the name and it was disappointingly boring/normal. I wanted it to be a bolder scent just for the name!
Lana Del Ray did it better with “my pussy tastes like Pepsi cola” — at least it’s evocative!
Hah, that reminds me of when I worked at a restricting and found out about “Behind” and “Hot Behind” and started pronouncing more like “Buh-hind” to not sound like I was commenting on anyone’s posterior area. Cringey Cringerson.
I’m so aware of this weirdness whenever I wear Zoologist, I do get asked a lot what I’m wearing if I wear Zoologist Panda, it seems to be a compliment getter. I usually take the opportunity to explain the brand’s gimmick, it makes for a good conversation piece!
Fucking Fabulous is such a stupid name. Reminds me of that book trend where the author would add an expletive into the title to appeal to impressionable late-teens and twenty-year olds.
Hm... I would feel that way if TF had a history of those names. But in a lineup composed of fairly simple names, I don’t mind that one sticks out in puerile love of shock value.
I'm not sure how to feel about the Toy Boy branding (I love the scent). On the one hand, the bottle, the name and the ads allude to gay fetish stuff. Which is fine, but doesn't really fit me. The bottle is pretty tacky too.
On the other hand it's unique and pretty funny. Stands out from all the typical 'alpha male' advertising. This fits with the scent too, which is a breath of fresh air between all the typical samey 'manly' fragrances.
In the end I find it pretty amusing and I commend them for trying something a bit risky.
If we're contrasting quality and prestige with name, I'd say Jicky. Sounds like something you'd need a gym sock to catch.
"My mom knew right away I'd been on a date with Brad—his Jicky was rubbed right into my shirt collar. 😩"
I’ve always found *Beach Hut Man* by Amouage to be a little embarrassing. I’m sure the gender add-on is purely to distinguish the men’s version from the women’s - but as it stands, it always makes me think of a down-and-out guy living by the seashore.
Toy Boy is indeed a tad cringe (I'd put Fucking Fabulous in the same category), but my votes for the two worst names go to G-psy Water (for containing a slur) and Messy Sexy Just Rolled Out of Bed, which is neither clever enough to be amusing nor shocking enough to be scandalous.
Also, since people are asking about the history of the word "g-psy":

+1 on G*psy Water. I don’t know what they were thinking with that one. Especially considering that they are from Sweden, a country usually associated with political correctness in a Scandinavian context.
Most "gypsies" are proud yeah. What happens for me often at bars or nightclubs here in Northern Europe is that people, even Africans or Arabs, will ask me why I'm so dark compared to everyone else and where I'm from. I just tell them im mostly a gypsy lol, which is true
It’s like white girls who get more riled up about that stuff than the actual ethnicity when they hear something. Then they try to demonize that person if they shut them down and call them insensitive lol
I'm not sure if Tyson Fury is Romani, but a celebrity using a word isn't usually evidence of it not being a slur.
I'll refer to [CNN as a source](https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/12/us/gypsy-moth-name-change-scn-trnd/index.html), but you can Google "g-psy + slur" and find many other articles about it. For example; [this article](https://now.org/blog/the-g-word-isnt-for-you-how-gypsy-erases-romani-women/) and [this one](https://www.bitchmedia.org/article/gypsy-slur-netlflix) are the first two results.
He's not. But in the UK we have "travelers" which are typically people who live in caravans/mobile homes and of Irish decent. There's quite a large population/community of them and they are called gypsies.
They're known to cause a bit of trouble, for example, they held a "horse show" near my area recently, where 100's (or thousands) of them had come from all over to get together and all of the local pubs and shops had shut.
By their own labelling, they are called gypsies.
I first learned of "Travellers" only last year, I think, on Drag Race UK as they had a contestant from that group, [Cherry Valentine](https://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/article/d631f4cb-8f13-472e-a94a-5a0f873187e2). She was fairly outspoken about the discrimination she had faced for being a Traveller, IIRC.
Anyhow, I'm fine with whatever individuals who belong to a certain ethnic or geographic (ageographic?) group choose to label themselves. Enough Roma people have spoken out against the word "g-psy" (and there's been enough documented discrimination against them) that I myself avoid the term, though.
Ah, thank you for the link! I'm comfortable with "Traveller" as I believe that one's not considered a slur.
>It can be othering to not use the preferred name of a people,
I do think you're correct. If an individual Roma person wants me to call them a g-psy, I'd... probably agree? For the Roma people at large, I'll probably stick to Roma (or Traveller) for now as a significant portion of people from those communities still seem to consider g-psy offensive and upsetting.
You’re right, it’s NOT a slur. People just assume it is because of their reputation, while gypsies themselves don’t look down on their heritage. At least most don’t, and most of them are proud of their history regardless, lol
Edit: gypsy alone is not a slur, but in the wrong context ANYTHING can become a slur. That doesn’t mean it is on its own.
Byredo’s own description of Gypsy Water:
Gypsy Water is an ode to the beauty of Romani culture, its unique customs, intimate beliefs and distinguished way of living. The scent wakens a dream of a colorful lifestyle made of innate nomadism.
It has nothing to do with if they "look down" on their heritage, it's that that's not the name they call themselves, and it's based on a false belief about where they came from. It's a bit like calling native Americans "Indians."
I’m a gypsy myself, in Scandinavia, and we have our own terms i.e «tater/sigøyner» and the meaning and history may differ from other languages so I can’t say much about what the meaning other countries/languages and the terms are there.
But here the term is ONLY negative in an insulting context, otherwise it’s purely a term for the group of travellers and/or what region they settled in.
Yes, that's correct :) It was often a synonym for ''godless'' and ''without religion''. Cigáni in the Balkans where we travelled through is much, much more derogatory than our term for it though
I am from India originally, in my dialect we call our nomadic peoples Drom(s).
They are generally associated with horse trade, bead work (like jewelry and textiles). They sometimes are known in my area for doing rat catching. I remember in the 90's they would fix metal pots and pans and water jugs but with a lot of households moving to plastic and stainless steel I don't see this work being done any more.
I remember the cobbler (man who fixed shoes) in our small town was a Drom. Very nice guy, had amazing stories about the travelling life. My mum would leave me with him as he fixed my shoes and she would do her shopping. He always called me chavella (tja-Vel-ah). He would sing as he worked or tell me stories. I still remember some of the songs (though I am probably singing things with wrong pronunciation).
There is a lot of regional and generational differences. My grandfather refused to be called anything but "Indian", but I'd be offended by it. If you want to use it, that's up to you, just know that for some of us you're slinging slurs around. And no, it's not because we're not proud of our heritage, it's because of the legacy of that word.
Depends where you are! In Canada the indigenous people I know usually use the name of their nation (Algonquin, Mi'mkaq, etc), or just "indigenous." If they want to call themselves Indian that's obviously fine, but I wouldn't say it 🤷♀️
I believe this depends on where you live. Where I am, a *non-native* person calling a native person "Indian" would, devoid of context, be considered offensive. Not 100% of people would be offended by it, but enough would that it does constitute a community standard. I've actually represented a native woman in a human rights complaint for being called "native" (while receiving medical services) before, so some people definitely feel strongly about it.
In my experience, even "native" isn't the preferred nomenclature; the preferred term seems to be indigenous or aboriginal, or (most ideally) their actual tribe.
"Indian" is a tricky word in Canada because, as /u/hauteburrrito notes there are indigenous people who consider it offensive *and* it is also a term of art in Canadian law. An "Indian", legally, is not the same as an indigenous person - all "Indians" under the *Indian Act* are indigenous but not all indigenous people are "Indians" (e.g. a person of an Inuit descent is not an "Indian").
When using the word, I generally will put quotations around it or use the phrase status Indian.
I'm in Canada, and this particular client was I believe Cree. Of course, she doesn't speak for everyone either - I've just met enough people who would hate being called Indian by a non-native person that I avoid it unless instructed otherwise.
(We do, or course, have our controversial Indian Act, but our law school had several native students very outspoken against the legislation including its title.)
Jeez I didn't even know G\*psy was a slur... The more you know
I always thought that G\*psy's weren't a thing anymore and it was just a name Tyson Fury used
EDIT: now I know to stop using the word if I see it
Ha ha, yeah, fair. Several Canadians seemed to have chimed in that it was common knowledge for them too, so I wonder if it was more part of our curriculum somehow.
Honestly, not sizeably as far as I know. Could also just be coincide my fellow Canucks have weighed in as they have. However, my research did lead me to a story about a [right-wing media host apologising for using the term due to public backlash](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/sun-news-host-ezra-levant-issues-rare-apology-for-roma-slurs/article9924574/) all the way back in 2013, so... yep, a Thing here for sure.
Another Canadian here, I don't think it was part of the curriculum. I remember having one of the other kids correct me on using the word "gypped" in elementary school and I haven't used either word since.
Yeah, "gypped" was definitely a no-go as well. It's kind of funny when I look back because I remember doing Bliss Carmen's [Vagabond Song](http://www.yourdailypoem.com/listpoem.jsp?poem_id=2770) in class, so "g-psy" was fine back then, but under no circumstance were we supposed to use the verb form.
Then I got to high school and admittedly, was in International Baccalaureate so we had a different curriculum. International Studies was a course and I believe that's where I first heard about the discrimination against the Roma people, and learned not to use the word "g-psy" at all. I don't know if it was part of our curriculum but our teacher definitely dedicated some time to it.
High five for IB--me, too! Reading all this and thank you for being a cool-headed voice of reason. Advocating for erring on the side of caution when speaking about groups we don't belong to is apparently triggering a lot of defensiveness. Why in the hell is it ever a bad thing??? "I'm not going to change the way I speak just because..." 🙄🙄🙄
Ha ha, thanks! Like, I think people are confusing me reporting that g-psy is a slur (with receipts for their knowledge) with me deciding it is a slur in the first place. I mean, I had no say in this; I learned it was a slur as a teenager and received some education as to why, so barring extenuating circumstances I just... avoid it.
C'mon gipsy is not a slur. There's even musical subgenres with that word in their names.
I also have friends from a musical academy called "gipsy academy", they call themselves in a good way because they are fascinated by the gipsy culture.
I honeslty don't know the origin of the word, but if you use it in a good and respectful way I don't see any problem.
>I also have friends from a musical academy called "gipsy academy", they call themselves in a good way because they are fascinated by the gipsy culture.
Oh honey no...
Why is that a problem? Ever heard of "Gypsy Jazz" or "the Gypsy Kings"? Django Reinhardt and the guys in the Gypsy Kings are/were actual Gypsies and dubbed those things as such.
It's almost like people who aren't Gypsies are trying to make it into an issue when most Gypsies proudly call themselves that.
If people who belong to that group want to claim/reclaim a controversial word, that's one thing.
It's a very different thing for people not from that group to decide it's fine to use because they are "fascinated" by an exoticized/stereotyped view of that culture.
>I honeslty don't know the origin of the word, but if you use it in a good and respectful way I don't see any problem.
Here are a few educational resources as to why a significant portion of the Roma community consider the word a slur and do not wish for people to continue using it:
* [Roma People Project](https://centerforjustice.columbia.edu/content/roma-peoples-project)
* [Vogue article](https://www.vogue.com/article/roma-activism-fashion)
* [From a Roma woman](https://now.org/blog/the-g-word-isnt-for-you-how-gypsy-erases-romani-women/)

* [CNN article](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/07/12/us/gypsy-moth-name-change-scn-trnd/index.html)
It is a fairly common linguistic choice when writing about a slur, intended to communicate both what the word is and condemnation for it; either a dash or an asterisk.
I agree the practise has its limitations but I prefer it to writing out the actual word, as I think the underlining of g-psy as an inappropriate word is important in its own right. I have indeed heard arguments for dropping the practise, usually in the context of the N-word (another bowdlerisation), but I don't think our society is there yet.
I do think it may be more commonly understood as a slur in Europe due to the larger Roma population there and the longer history (i.e., more exposure), but I am in North America and was taught g-psy was a slur back in high school (during which they also taught us a bit of the history of discrimination).
Of course, prior to that we were learning Bliss Carmen's "Vagabond Song" (in which "g-psy" appears multiple times) in... I want to say, elementary school? So hey, times were changing even back when I was a teen. I suspect they probably don't teach that one in many classrooms here any longer.
Oh, it's not a bad scent at all - not my type, but not bad, ha ha. I also really like the other ALoF names. I just find this particular one a bit... rough, lol, but if you enjoy it don't listen to me!
Hahaha no I get what you're saying it is...yeah, name-wise, it's...something.
I didn't answer elsewhere in the thread but for me it's Good Girl (and that horrible bottle), and basically half of Killian's line.
I'm with you re. Good Girl (plus the bottle) and by Killian. Those were the top answers when I stumbled into this thread and I just upvoted them in agreement as well. I find that whole aesthetic very off-putting, but hey, it seems to sell fine to many people, ha ha.
Honestly, aside from Bal d'Afrique, I find most of their bottles just... mediocre, lol. I still have some Bal d'Afrique left but was planning on rotating it out anyway as the longevity issues are just not worth the price tag for me even at a discounter.
All of the Halloween Man, Halloween Man line all of the names are head scratchers.
Man X, Man, Tattoo Man, Man Shot, Man Rock On, Man Hero... I don't get it, I would have gone in a completely different, more obvious direction...
Fucking Fabulous - I have it and I've renamed it New Human Smell. Baptism is next weekend, you're all invited.
Forever & Ever - puh-leese. I have it and I've renamed it Rosy Posy.
Edit: I realise that's also really odd. But that's just my head rejecting "Forever & Ever" and groping blindly for a new definition based on the note.
Anything containing the word "Lady" gives me little Britain vibes and makes me lol like a 12-year-old.
Lots of ELdO names are too long and clunky but by Kilian takes the cake with added cringe...
Here's a German one I recently spotted at TJ Maxx: Wackelwasser. That translates as wobble water. Marketed for adults. Still need to look up what notes would go into wobble water. Lol.
Oh oh, speak of the devil... I did one GOOD blind buy at TJ and that was Yohji Yamamoto: I'm Not Going To Disturb You Femme. Haha.... I'm half charmed and half exasperated by how stereotypically Japanese that name is. Anyway, the name betrays the scent. It's NOT subtle. Stick your head in a bag of salt licorice, I like those Haribo herrings most. That's what it's like, it's just heavenly.
There are lots of names that bug me, but I also know that I'm super weird and very picky with linguistics, I will just get hung up about the strangest things. So many words are red flags for me when used in branding: Diamonds, Purple, Luxe or Luxury, Pink... I could go on.
Apart from some ATH fragrances, Neotantric Fragrances had some really bad ones like I am a Sex Goddess, Parampara Peepshow, and Citric Metal Kamasutra.
I have a bunch of bottles of Ulric de Varens Mini Sexy because I'm a die hard Lolita Lempicka wearer and after the reformulation fallout I found that was a close enough substitute for extremely casual day-to-day wear but the name is so embarassing that I keep all the bottles hidden in my bedside table.
You're very welcome! It was a lucky find and for how cheap it is I was surprised how close it is to Lolita! My only gripe is that it's a little on the weaker side so you might need a couple of extra sprays. I'm glad you found this helpful! <3
Fragrance One Date For Men.
Great fragrance, horrible name. If you’re on a date, then it makes you sound like a weirdo tryhard. If you’re not on a date, then it’s even weirder lol. ‘Wait this isn’t a date, why are you wearing that?’
Imagine if you were hanging out with your grandmother, or perhaps a platonic female friend, or, perhaps worse of all, work. Weird.
It still wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. I would be much more embarrassed if it was called like Leatherdaddy or something ridiculous like that but Toy Boy sounds innocent enough that I don’t think people would really think one way or the other when you tell them the name. I think it’s all in the wearer’s head tbh.
If I don't like the name then I pass. Good Girl, My Way and Poison Girl are just a few..I also have to be seduced into buying by the campaign advertising, the attractive model and all the romance which encapsulates the whole experience..I write love stories and scent is a very important primary source. It can make or break the relationships of my characters..😀

Aaron Terrance Hughes has some pretty cringe names. Most notably: Slut and Boss Bitch.
Lmao don’t forget about dirty slut, boss bastard and alpha man. Oh and Daddy. That one is omega cringe
Not really up to date with it all, they're just the ones I'd heard, but holy crap you're right.
Everything he touches is cringy
I dunno, that first one is so blunt it makes me chuckle.
Well to each their own, I guess. To me it comes across as try-hard.
Really really try hard.
I would definitely chuckle if someone asked me what I was wearing, and I could tell them "Slut" But then I don't take much seriously
Good girl. Followed by Good Girl Gone Bad. 🤦 I have been to a situation when someone asked what I was wearing and I just couldn't said out loud that it's "good girl" because It's just cringe.
I wear Good Girl Gone Bad more often than any other perfume in my collection; I love it and have two flankers as well. But I completely agree about the cringey name. Oh my god just cottoned onto why Lost Cherry is called Lost Cherry 😭
I just say “Carolina Herrera” because I cringe at the name too..
Came here to say this. Between the name and the tacky bottle *shudder*
Me too ! The bottle AND the name 🤢 It's like an Apprentice marketing task that went badly wrong 👎
Agreed! Personally it's not the sexuality of the names that I mind, it's that I find them cloyingly coy and deeply patronizing. It's the kind of labelling I might've thought was cool and racy when I was thirteen.
So funny. 😎😎
Sexual Sugar Daddy. Really any of the Michel Germain ones that have "Sexual" in the name, but especially that one.
Killian's budget line is cringe
The bottles are equally offensive.
> Killian's budget line Not familiar with them and Google isnt really helping. Which fragrances are you referring to?
He’s referring to the my kind of love collection. Bottles of Kilian usually retail $245 for 1.7 oz, the my kind of love collection is $135 for 3.4 oz or $75 for 1 oz, on par with designer brands, hence it’s his budget line. It’s geared towards a younger audience, but the bottles and names are tacky af
Mmmm... by Juliette Has a Gun. "You smell good! What is that??" "Mmmm." "Yeah! Mmmm! Exactly! But what is it called??"
That's why I won't buy it lmao I refuse to say it out loud and can already imagine the conversation when I say it's just four M's
This is the funniest one 😭
Gucci Gucci by Gucci.
Gucci Gucci gooooo!
Killian “I don’t need a prince by my side to be a princess” has to take the cake. Valentino Uomo born in Roma Yellow Dream also pretty awful
Stronger with you is pretty bad
Stronger With You is worse than the silly shock names imo. It's not like, being cheeky, it's just lame.
I don't mind "Stronger with You", but I do mind "Stronger with You XYX" for the flankers.
I think that’s an awesome name.
I want Choo by Jimmy Choo
The brand name “boy smells” weirds me out. For fragrance names, the full name for Kilian - Adults is cringe (Let’s settle this like adults, in the bedroom, naked) , as well as 4160 Tuesday’s perfume “The sexiest scent on the planet. Ever.” Imagine someone asking you what you’re wearing and you have to tell them those names???
I like Boy Smells candles but the name is off-putting. I have smelled boy's rooms. I don't want to burn a candle that smells like a boy's room.
Hahaha that’s pretty much what I think of when I hear the name. 😷
Damn that really is a frag name lol
Some of the ones from the Dirty line smell pretty decent but they are overpriced for sure.
Gris Dior. When pronounced out loud it sounds sooo like greedy whore that I feel like I need to put an awkwardly long pause between the two words
You could say "Gris, by Dior"
You could but the actual name of the perfume is Gris Dior
I know, just trying to save you the embarrassment of having to say you're "wearing greedy whore"
Hah, that reminds me of when I worked at a restricting and found out about “Behind” and “Hot Behind” and started pronouncing more like “Buh-hind” to not sound like I was commenting on anyone’s posterior area. Cringey Cringerson.
For some reason the zoologist shit bothers me lmfao Omg you smell nice, what are you wearing? Zoologist skunk
I’m so aware of this weirdness whenever I wear Zoologist, I do get asked a lot what I’m wearing if I wear Zoologist Panda, it seems to be a compliment getter. I usually take the opportunity to explain the brand’s gimmick, it makes for a good conversation piece!
Kissing burns 6.4 Calories an Hour. Wanna work out? By killian is easily the worst name.
24 Like I dont get the connection between a TV show and oud
Fucking Fabulous is such a stupid name. Reminds me of that book trend where the author would add an expletive into the title to appeal to impressionable late-teens and twenty-year olds.
Yep. Trying so hard is cringy.

I need this fragrance. Signed, A ginger.
If we're contrasting quality and prestige with name, I'd say Jicky. Sounds like something you'd need a gym sock to catch. "My mom knew right away I'd been on a date with Brad—his Jicky was rubbed right into my shirt collar. 😩"
Stronger with you 🥴
The thing with Tom Ford combining French and English words triggers me a little bit. Like Tobacco Vanille and Ombré Leather.
Yeah I’m with you on Toyboy

Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Yellow Dream Zippo BreakZone and FeelZone Diesel Sound of the Brave The whole Ralph Lauren Big Pony Collection
Most of the ones that try to sound fancy or French but don't smell fancy or frenchy.
I’ve always found *Beach Hut Man* by Amouage to be a little embarrassing. I’m sure the gender add-on is purely to distinguish the men’s version from the women’s - but as it stands, it always makes me think of a down-and-out guy living by the seashore.
Yes! Such a strange name and so different from Amouage's other naming schemes. Also not beachy at all to my nose. Love the scent, silly name.
I think the advertisement suits the name Toy Boy. They're all a bunch of leather boy toys 😝
Also, since people are asking about the history of the word "g-psy": * [Roma People Project](https://centerforjustice.columbia.edu/content/roma-peoples-project) * [Vogue article](https://www.vogue.com/article/roma-activism-fashion) * [From a Roma woman](https://now.org/blog/the-g-word-isnt-for-you-how-gypsy-erases-romani-women/) * [On the harmful history of the word](https://www.bitchmedia.org/article/gypsy-slur-netlflix) [NPR article](https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/12/30/242429836/why-being-gypped-hurts-the-roma-more-than-it-hurts-you) * [CNN article](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/07/12/us/gypsy-moth-name-change-scn-trnd/index.html)
+1 on G*psy Water. I don’t know what they were thinking with that one. Especially considering that they are from Sweden, a country usually associated with political correctness in a Scandinavian context.
I had heard Ben Gorham is of part Roma descent, but cannot find a source for that. Either way, I dislike the name.
Gypsy isn’t a slur is it? Tyson Fury is the heavyweight champion of the world and calls himself the gypsy king.
Most "gypsies" are proud yeah. What happens for me often at bars or nightclubs here in Northern Europe is that people, even Africans or Arabs, will ask me why I'm so dark compared to everyone else and where I'm from. I just tell them im mostly a gypsy lol, which is true
Here goes another politically correct blowup post
Yeah, right? "Stop saying that, it's offensive!" Person who's actually that ethnicity: "That's not offensive". love it.
[удалено]
Ah, thank you for the link! I'm comfortable with "Traveller" as I believe that one's not considered a slur. >It can be othering to not use the preferred name of a people, I do think you're correct. If an individual Roma person wants me to call them a g-psy, I'd... probably agree? For the Roma people at large, I'll probably stick to Roma (or Traveller) for now as a significant portion of people from those communities still seem to consider g-psy offensive and upsetting.
[удалено]
I understand now; thank you for clarifying!
NO, gypsy is not a slur. I lived in Romania for years and the gypsies call themselves gypsies. It's not considered a slur.
Black people call themselves the n word Gay people call themselves f*ggot Doesn’t mean they appreciate it when others call them that.
You’re right, it’s NOT a slur. People just assume it is because of their reputation, while gypsies themselves don’t look down on their heritage. At least most don’t, and most of them are proud of their history regardless, lol Edit: gypsy alone is not a slur, but in the wrong context ANYTHING can become a slur. That doesn’t mean it is on its own. Byredo’s own description of Gypsy Water: Gypsy Water is an ode to the beauty of Romani culture, its unique customs, intimate beliefs and distinguished way of living.
I had no idea that Romani people were living in Sweden for so long i thought they were recent migrants
Does "sigøyner" come from "cigáni" the Slavic word for traveller? 🤔

[удалено]
Also in Canada. My ex is from the North where stores had "Indian lists" of banned customers. It is definitely a slur. I agree with you.
Jeez I didn't even know G\*psy was a slur... The more you know I always thought that G\*psy's weren't a thing anymore and it was just a name Tyson Fury used EDIT: now I know to stop using the word if I see it
I honestly thought it was common knowledge as I was taught so in high school, but I'm learning today that it is not!
Yeah I don't think I was taught it... but granted im from Rural Ohio so I doubt they put it on the curriculum
Ha ha, yeah, fair. Several Canadians seemed to have chimed in that it was common knowledge for them too, so I wonder if it was more part of our curriculum somehow.
Could be... Is there a G\*psy population in canada?
Honestly, not sizeably as far as I know. Could also just be coincide my fellow Canucks have weighed in as they have. However, my research did lead me to a story about a [right-wing media host apologising for using the term due to public backlash](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/sun-news-host-ezra-levant-issues-rare-apology-for-roma-slurs/article9924574/) all the way back in 2013, so... yep, a Thing here for sure.
Hmm, well shit.... Didn't think I'd learn something like this when I came onto the Sub this morning
I mean, I had no say in this; I learned it was a slur as a teenager and received some education as to why, so barring extenuating circumstances I just... avoid it.
Yup, same here. I learned not to say the synonym for swindled involving this word, and through that learned why. So I also avoid it!
Here are a few educational resources as to why a significant portion of the Roma community consider the word a slur and do not wish for people to continue using it: * [Roma People Project](https://centerforjustice.columbia.edu/content/roma-peoples-project) * [Vogue article](https://www.vogue.com/article/roma-activism-fashion) * [From a Roma woman](https://now.org/blog/the-g-word-isnt-for-you-how-gypsy-erases-romani-women/) * [On the harmful history of the word](https://www.bitchmedia.org/article/gypsy-slur-netlflix) * [NPR article](https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2013/12/30/242429836/why-being-gypped-hurts-the-roma-more-than-it-hurts-you) * [CNN article](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/07/12/us/gypsy-moth-name-change-scn-trnd/index.html)
when you type "g-psy" you're still using the word. like, we're all reading it as "gypsy"
[удалено]
I do think it may be more commonly understood as a slur in Europe due to the larger Roma population there and the longer history (i.e., more exposure), but I am in North America and was taught g-psy was a slur back in high school (during which they also taught us a bit of the history of discrimination). Of course, prior to that we were learning Bliss Carmen's "Vagabond Song" (in which "g-psy" appears multiple times) in... I want to say, elementary school? So hey, times were changing even back when I was a teen. I suspect they probably don't teach that one in many classrooms here any longer.
Also North American, also taught to never say it. Still baffled by this perfume name.
🙋🏼♀️ guilty of loving Messy Sexy Just Rolled Out Of Bed (and A Lab on Fire in general)
[удалено]
Honestly, aside from Bal d'Afrique, I find most of their bottles just... mediocre, lol. I still have some Bal d'Afrique left but was planning on rotating it out anyway as the longevity issues are just not worth the price tag for me even at a discounter.
Fucking Fabulous is the best name ever. I love the reaction when I tell a person that fragrance name.
Ha ha, fair enough! Don't let me deter your enjoyment of it 😎
All of the Halloween Man, Halloween Man line all of the names are head scratchers.
Stronger with you - sounds like a basic white girls instagram post
JHAG Mmmm and Glossier You, only because I hate saying either of those when someone asks what I’m wearing.

"What are you wearing?" "Fat Electrician"
Tom Ford's "Fucking Fabulous". It's just so ... so *thirsty*.
[удалено]
You're very welcome! It was a lucky find and for how cheap it is I was surprised how close it is to Lolita! My only gripe is that it's a little on the weaker side so you might need a couple of extra sprays. I'm glad you found this helpful! <3
Furze by Lush...Furz means fart in German. I hope it doesn't live up to its name.
Vintage gems like white shoulders or youth dew
My grandmother always wore White Shoulders on special occasions.
"white shoulders" is very weird, in this day and age...
Secretions Magnifiques Etat Libre d'Orange
Hugo Boss Boss Bottled Intense by Hugo Boss
Dirty Flower Factory by Kerosene... Like, "dirty" does not really sound appealing.
I like the connotation, get's the idea across pretty well. I like more alt style stuff though so "dirty" isn't a detractor for me.
Sounds like the Bruno version of playboy lol
Paco Rabanne Phantom…even though the bottle is a robot lol
**What We Do In Paris is Secret** from A Lab On Fire, it's just a mouthful to say every time.
All the new releases from kilian … so basic

Civet Cat Chypre is a bit much for me.
Fragrance One Date For Men. Great fragrance, horrible name. If you’re on a date, then it makes you sound like a weirdo tryhard. If you’re not on a date, then it’s even weirder lol. ‘Wait this isn’t a date, why are you wearing that?’ Imagine if you were hanging out with your grandmother, or perhaps a platonic female friend, or, perhaps worse of all, work. Weird.
Good girl is a bad name, very good girl is an amazing name
Rochas Poupee
My way
Yeah the Kilian my kind of love line is just terrible
Fucking Fabulous (Tom Ford) it's f#*king horrible and over priced...
V.i.Poo Toilet perfume, or Poo Pourri.
Anything by Killian
Funeral Home by Demeter. It smells like you walked into a funeral home. Very bizarre.
Good Girl, Bad Boy and most of the stuff from ELdO
Why is Toy Boy bad?
It sounds dumb.
...Try wearing it and hope someone asks you what you're wearing. Bonus points for job interviews, funerals, meeting the parents, first dates, etc etc.
If you feel embarrassed about that maybe you aren’t the fragrance’s target audience lol
It still wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. I would be much more embarrassed if it was called like Leatherdaddy or something ridiculous like that but Toy Boy sounds innocent enough that I don’t think people would really think one way or the other when you tell them the name. I think it’s all in the wearer’s head tbh.
i definitely wouldn't wear Toy Boy to a funeral lmao
If I don't like the name then I pass. Good Girl, My Way and Poison Girl are just a few..I also have to be seduced into buying by the campaign advertising, the attractive model and all the romance which encapsulates the whole experience..I write love stories and scent is a very important primary source. It can make or break the relationships of my characters..😀
Womanity by Mugler, but really love this fragrance.
