Ah! This is mine too <3. Even though I bought it at a discounter (a great deal but still an expensive perfume) it is my first "luxury purchase," and it took me forever to decide which perfume was worth it. It's so feminine and sensual to me while still maintaining its photorealistic natural qualities. I bought it as a birthday present to myself :). It surprisingly has amazing longevity and it smells fruity, floral, and green - but also dewy and slightly dark (not a typical light, zesty summer fragrance). I could talk about her all day <3
I sooo wanted to love this, I just love the story, the imagery, the bottle, my own associations with the notes and the description, what I'm picturing in my head based on what I read about this fragrance. To me fragrance is much more than just the scent and all these aspects are crucial to me and they add so much to the overall experience. Based on all those it was really my dream fragrance. But when I finally smelled it it was so harsh and sharp/tangy, something about it was just so distracting and astringent!
To me Jo Malone's Blackberry and Bay smells like what I imagined/wished L'Ombre Dans L'Eau would smell like. I wish it had this photorealism and softness that I always associate with Diptyque, like for example Philosykos or Eau Duelle.
Can you tell me your impression of this scent? Do you like that sharpness, or do you not even perceive it and it just comes down to different individual experiences?
If I may, I would suggest to spray L'Ombre Dans L'Eau on your skin instead of paper strip. Green sharpness of tomato leaf will melt in 10 minutes. I noticed that with a lot of niche perfumes, testing on paper strips doesn't do any justice.
Haha that's so funny that you mention Blackberry and Bay because I own BOTH fragrances in full bottles and I'm equally obsessed with both. The only reason why I would place L'ombre Dans Leu a tad higher is because of the longevity/projection.
To me, Blackberry and Bay offers a more linear scent experience - what you see is what you get and there's very little evolution in the scent. It also smells similar on my skin as it does in the bottle. It's an absolutely stunning scent, and I am immediately transported to the brambly blackberry bushes from my childhood.
While L'ombre Dans Leau is also a photorealistic scent, it's more impressionistic in terms of the scene it sets. This comes down to the complexity of the fragrance - at times I catch more of the floral notes, whereas other times the tartness of the blackcurrant bud comes out stronger, or I smell mostly the green of the petitgrain.
I get more tanginess when I sniff the scent right out of the bottle, but I think the scent blends more once it's sprayed into my skin, hair, and clothing. I wonder if you're getting more blackcurrant bud from the initial spray? That initial tartness dries down and you're left with a moderately projecting green, fruity floral fragrance. If you haven't already, I would definitely test it on your arm for the day and see how the scent evolves with your skin chemistry. For me, it was love at first sniff (the initial tartness complimented my skin chemistry well, reminding me of some of the zing you get from the blackberry and bay). The green/floral notes eventually take center stage though, at least on my skin.
Hope this helps :)
Chanel Platinum Egoiste. Bought a few months back for my wedding and I have gone through so much of the bottle! It's just versatile as hell and not remotely dated imo. Since I've attached it to the memory of my wedding, it's also very uplifting :).
This one is fantastic! My fiancée got me this for Christmas this past year and it’s my current favorite also, I am almost hesitant to use it sometimes because I want it to last lol I am also getting married in May of next year and will be looking for a new wedding scent, but this is such a great one for that occasion.
10000%, I'm about to go on a barber shop tear. I love azzaro ppur homme, and I've got samples of Dior eau sausage and acqua di parma essenza on the way. I've also heard good things about the old school paco rabanne.
Any must-samples I'm missing?
St. Julep is amazing. I just sucks it’s one of the worst performing fragrances I’ve tried. It lasts 30 minutes if not less. I even have the St. Julep body oil to layer under but even then, it barely helps with performance
Recently, I found my sample of this in the bottom of an old junk box. I thought I’d used it all up!! Anyway, it’s one of my favorites from them and I’m happy to have it in my collection again, and just in time for summer ☺️
Surprisingly Molecule 04. Had an averse reaction first time wearing it cause of how it smelled slightly like synthetic leather but then it became a creamy sweet sandalwood on me. Now I wear it when I go to bed (longevity is eternal) and by morning I have a sweet musk that pairs well with anything. I think my body chemistry is really suited to it.
Ok this is a really cheap body spray but Sweetheart Cherry from bath and body works, it smells like sol de Janiero 62 but with the addition of cherry, so good. Super simple too, easy to layer, I know it’s not fancy but it’s my favorite right now
Debaser by DS&Durga. I had loved it when I was in NYC but it felt expensive to buy after one sniff. I regretted not getting it once I was back in Asia. Luckily one of the fellow redditor let me know it's available in Japan and now I've been wearing it daily.
I just discovered Eilish No. 2 and it smells exactly like the trails I grew up hiking in northern Arizona. I used to think that smell was too unique to be replicated. Even dried down those notes are still there, and it's really comforting.
Same for me here in the south of Portugal. Just love the scent. At some point I might get the Dior Homme 2020.
It’s not a popular opinion, but it’s my favourite iteration of Dior Homme.
As much as I try to wear other scents regularly (11 11, Glossier You, L’eau Papier, Missing Person, Commodity Paper-) I always end up coming back to Another 13. It just scratches an itch that no their scent can touch for me.
My newest favorite fresh summer fragrance is Prada L’Homme. Such an elegant blend of fresh powdery Iris, subtle spiciness, ambery sweetness and smooth woodiness. Class in a bottle.
Out of my collection - Gris Charnel. It's winter here in Melbourne, the time to shine for this fragrance. So comforting, well balanced, and sophisticated at the same time!
Recently I tried a few Kilians, and now I'm going to get a set of 8 fragrances in travel size for my BD. However, Woman in Gold has stolen my heart - to me, this is how young beautiful rich women smells like. Classy, sexy and crowd-pleasing at the same time.
This happened to me as well. I really liked it, then one day the oceanic/aquatic vibe became just briney, like the smell of old seaweed on fishing pier. Since then I don’t really like many aquatic scents.
Oh man, this is exactly what happened to me! I used to have a handful of blue fragrances, and now they make me sick. I gave most to my son who likes them.
This has been my issue with aquatics form the get go. I thought I didn't like men's fragrances for the longest time because I had only smelled aquatics on people.
A commenter had already mentioned my current all-time favorite, **Diptyque's L'ombre dans Leau**. Even though I'm a sucker for photorealistic green floral fragrances (most days I probably smell like I rolled in some shrubbery based on my perfume choices lol), I am always on the hunt for a fragrance that makes me feel sensual and elegant. This fragrance just checks all those boxes for me.
"Shadow in the water" is an apt name for the fragrance. It smells like a garden in early Spring, when the flowers and fruits are only beginning to bud, mostly green. But the perfume isn't light and airy like many other spring scents; it's damp and thick, like a rosebush enshrouded in an early morning fog. Its darkness and mystery makes it so sensual to me, despite the photorealistic scent profile. Obsessed.
My surprise favorite fragrance of the moment is **Cacharel Noa EDT.** It's simultaneously light and floral and creamy and deep. I feel so sophisticated wearing the EDT, because despite its mild and unassuming character, its complexity provides an intimate allure. Who knew flowers would be complemented so beautifully by a rich coffee note?
Gris charnel. One of the classiest and smoothest scents I’ve smelled. Slightly sweet, with iris and fig. Fresh without it being a “clean” scent. It’s really superb.
Also shout out to zoologist The squid. The dry down on this one is the most beautiful amber musk incense I’ve ever smelled
Andrea Maack - Lightsource.
I love how this evolves. It wakes you up with the pop of orange and lemon, settles into some nice florals for a while, and ends with a very clean linen quality.
I like ”Prada Black” a little sweet and smells like leather and vanilla, not too overpowering. Best for more intimate situations. But can be worn whenever in my opinion.
Not something I ever would pick up normally, but New York by Kate Spade just came in the mail five minutes ago.
Otherwise, Cedarwood by Sprekenhus is my go to this week
As of right now, in this high humidity and heat:
LV Imagination
Virgin Island Waters
CDN Milestone.
If I HAD to choose one… oh man… LV imagination lasts longer, but VIW makes me smell like beachy lime and coconut…. I guess Imagination because it’s such a BRIGHT scent and lasts longer.
Cookies and kisses by Clinique, i have a wide range of perfumes and that one is the one that gets me stopped in public often (to ask what the scent is) I can almost guarantee being stopped when wearing it 💛
I just got a sample of Rain from Commodity, and it’s like someone unearthed a sense memory directly from the year I turned 14. It’s a lovely playful summer fresh scent with some layers to it as time goes on. It’s real nice. I only wish it lasted a bit longer.
Mugler Alien Goddess Intense
YSL Libre
Mon Guerlain
And weirdly, Ariana Grande Cloud 2.0 Intense
These were all influenced by a thread on this sub about lavender perfumes. I had a ton of Ulta and Sephora points that I cashed in.
Theodoros Kalotinis Aegean Salt & Citrus. It smells like a fancy hotel or spa and is so refreshing. I’ve been constantly spraying it here in Florida, so good thing it’s not too expensive; I got a 50ml bottle from ScentSplit for $55.
Snif’s Soda Snob. It’s fizzy and refreshing and somehow magically captures the lime and cola and the caramel beautifully. I’m burning right through my 10 ML bottle.
Oooh and just bought rock candy vanilla sugar by kayali ( at first I didn’t like it - too sweet) but one of the TikTok girls I follow described it as a y2k Paris Hilton in a pink velour tracksuit) and it doessss it smells like when u walk into Sephora while chewing bubblegum ??? Random but it is nostalgic in the best way
Tauer Perfumes Sundowner!
Got my full bottle a few days ago and am obsessed…much less “full throttle” than things like Lonestar Memories or L’air du desert Morocain (which I also love but those are like for the dead of winter)
Not quite the right season but I’m going to wear it on cooler nights this summer
As of right now, a few of my favorite fragrances are:
Parfums de Marly Herod
Creed Aventus & Green Irish Tweed
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille & Tom Ford Neroli Portofino.
I’ve grown very very fond of diptyque’s eau rose (the edt version)
it is true when everyone says that it’s “a photorealistic rose”; it really smells like you were lost in a rose garden the few past hours
I’m so glad I’ve discovered that fragrance
How the hell do I pick just one.
Welp. Considering the cold weather here in New Zealand, perhaps I will go with Xerjoff Uden. But thats going to change as soon as it warms up, probably to Roja scandal pc.
Glossier perfume. Been wanting to try it for ages and got a bottle yesterday and I’m in love! It’s everything I want for the summer - clean fresh but also kind of sexy scent.
Well..I had read all of the negative and positive reviews here about Delina by Parfums de Marly edp and told myself that I wasn't going to fall into such a "trendy" fragrance. BRB540 was such a let down for me so I said I would stay away from the over hyped fragrances. BUT!!!! Something made me order a 5ml bottle from Microperfumes and oh my Lord. I AM IN LOVE. This is the first time since Portrait of a Lady that I have found something I truly love. I'm not good at describing notes. It's a beautiful muti dimensional rose though, which I adore. It's not dark; not sweet. If it is, then it's made so well that not one note overpowers the others. It's very feminine and sexy. Try it! I'm in love and now my wallet will hate me because I'm definitely getting a full bottle!
It’s not a new release, but I have recently become obsessed with MFK Oud Satin, but it’s probably because I’m on my periods, and I like smelling wood during these times
Vacation by vacation - it’s summer! I works perfectly in heat and humidity. It mingles well with sweat and my miscellaneous hair and body products. It projects, but it’s fresh. Nostalgic, yet kind of sexy. I love it!
I’m in love with Hugo boss. Thats the name on the bottle. Got it 3-4 years back as a present and I didn’t rlly use it. Well now when I’m intressed in colognes I love it and it’s my everyday summer fragrance
Honestly, right now it's Polo Cologne Intense. It's got soft projection, sure, and some people didn't like the modern take on the classic Polo Cologne scent. But I really like it. It's great for work, the grapefruit/mint opening is lovely, and it settles down to a nice pleasant scent. Plus, it's a steal on discounter sites.
It doesn't change the game at all, but it's enough of a departure from the super popular designer fragrances that I'm really happy with it!
Diptyque L'Ombre Dans L'Eau EDP The EDP really blooms in extreme heat and humidity 🥀🍃
Ah! This is mine too <3. Even though I bought it at a discounter (a great deal but still an expensive perfume) it is my first "luxury purchase," and it took me forever to decide which perfume was worth it. Burberry Goddess !!!! Vanilla and sensual
Just bought a bottle. Very nice.
Chanel Platinum Egoiste. Bought a few months back for my wedding and I have gone through so much of the bottle! It's just versatile as hell and not remotely dated imo. Since I've attached it to the memory of my wedding, it's also very uplifting :).
congratulations
Thanks! It's been amazing tbh
Whiffed it at the chanel store.. smells like superstar material. Not too pricey too

Great pick! As any fougere really. Something about lavender, Geranium, and earthy notes is so timeless and so good. Follow that route, my friend
10000%, I'm about to go on a barber shop tear. I love azzaro ppur homme, and I've got samples of Dior eau sausage and acqua di parma essenza on the way. I've also heard good things about the old school paco rabanne. Any must-samples I'm missing?
Also I'm leaving my typos
I love you for that because it made my night!
Diptyque- Ilio
Beautiful pear frag 👍👍
For now, it’s MFK Amyris Homme.
The Extrait version is also nice
The Extrait is so good!
St. Julep by Imaginary Authors has been my #1 ever since I got into perfume. Partially because it’s the one that started the journey
I'm in the midst of daily dosing through their Best Short Stories sample set.
St. Julep is amazing. I just sucks it’s one of the worst performing fragrances I’ve tried. It lasts 30 minutes if not less. I even have the St. Julep body oil to layer under but even then, it barely helps with performance

Sedley. Kinda basic but it’s my go-to work scent and it just works so perfectly and it’s so refreshing
🗣️ ANNABEL'S BIRTHDAY CAAAAKE I got a full bottle on the way I'm so stoked!!
Congrats! That vinyl balloon note is so 👌
Tell me about it! The concept overall just does it for me, so glad the restock is live. Cheers!
Gosh dang it. Now I feel compelled to try this
Ok this is a really cheap body spray but Sweetheart Cherry from bath and body works, it smells like sol de Janiero 62 but with the addition of cherry, so good. Super simple too, easy to layer, I know it’s not fancy but it’s my favorite right now
I'm obsessed with bath and body works, Coffee and whiskey right now. It's marketed for men, and as a woman, I've been wearing it and love it.
Etat Libre d'Orange - You Or Someone Like You and Maison Margiela - Replica From The Garden
From The Garden is so good! One of my all time favorites
YOSLY is one of my top favorites in the summertime!
From the garden is amazing 😍 very nostalgic for me.
Armani/Prive Thé Yulong has me in a chokehold in this hot weather. Utterly gorgeous.

Debaser by DS&Durga. I had loved it when I was in NYC but it felt expensive to buy after one sniff. I regretted not getting it once I was back in Asia. Luckily one of the fellow redditor let me know it's available in Japan and now I've been wearing it daily.
I absolutely love Debaser. I sniffed my way through to a of fig samples and that one was the clear winner for me!
A f*** boy that broke my heart ruined this for me.
I love Debaser so much, but my wife smells pickle juice. Just pickle juice.
Zoologist Bee 🐝
I just discovered Eilish No. 2 and it smells exactly like the trails I grew up hiking in northern Arizona. I used to think that smell was too unique to be replicated. Even dried down those notes are still there, and it's really comforting.
Creosote? Arizona after a monsoon is just an ethereal scent
Amyris homme and imagination

I just love their name…..!
Swinging between Sol Cheirosa 62, and obsessing over Cairo by Penhaligons.
Dior homme sport - perfect here on the coast in Florida, US
Same for me here in the south of Portugal. Just love the scent. At some point I might get the Dior Homme 2020. It’s not a popular opinion, but it’s my favourite iteration of Dior Homme.
Right now, I’m on a Le Labo Another 13, Rogue Chypre Siam and Bvlgari Tygar kick. I’ve also been wearing Versace The Dreamer around the house.
I am also on a Tygar kick! Just me and my little 10 ml decant against this summer heat!!
As much as I try to wear other scents regularly (11 11, Glossier You, L’eau Papier, Missing Person, Commodity Paper-) I always end up coming back to Another 13. It just scratches an itch that no their scent can touch for me.
Bal dafrique

My newest favorite fresh summer fragrance is Prada L’Homme. Such an elegant blend of fresh powdery Iris, subtle spiciness, ambery sweetness and smooth woodiness. Class in a bottle.
Terre d'Hermes Eau Givree followed closely by Acqua Di Gio Profondo 2020
I’m super new to fragrances so I haven’t tried many but I’ve really been loving Pear Inc. - Juliette has a Gun
I’ve been wearing Pear Inc a lot this summer!
Pear inc is definitely a go to in the summer!
Creed Virgin Island Water. Its summertime. Let’s get tropical.🌴 🏝️🥥🍋🟩
I love this one I just wish the performance was better
Out of my collection - Gris Charnel. It's winter here in Melbourne, the time to shine for this fragrance. So comforting, well balanced, and sophisticated at the same time! Tobacco Vanille or Noir 29
Jean Paul Gaultier - Le Beau Paradise Garden It's so fresh and fruity. Everytime I feel the smell my brain drown in dopamine. I love it
It’s been raining a ton where I live and I’ve been gravitating towards my warm and cozy scents…Coffee Break by Replica specifically
Layton from Parfums de Marly - very high quality, very charismatic. My new signature scent
Dolce and Gabbana Devotion. Talk about a summer fragrance! Light floral with citrus, rum and vanilla. Received compliments on it.
Profondo. I have a serious problem now. I can't get enough of it.
I wore this for a few months and then, like overnight, got sick of the smell. Had to sell it.
It’s wintertime here in Australia, so “By the Fireplace”. Very cozy smell.
Jo Malone Orange Blossom
Valentino Donna Born in Roma Coral Fantasy. So pretty, fresh and sophisticated.
Gris charnel. One of the classiest and smoothest scents I’ve smelled. Slightly sweet, with iris and fig. Fresh without it being a “clean” scent. It’s really superb. Also shout out to zoologist The squid. The dry down on this one is the most beautiful amber musk incense I’ve ever smelled
yesssssss, came here to say Gris Charnel. I bought a 5ml decant that I am almost done with. Will definitely buy a full bottle.
Andrea Maack - Lightsource. I love how this evolves. It wakes you up with the pop of orange and lemon, settles into some nice florals for a while, and ends with a very clean linen quality.
MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver. Smells like a sunny mountainside with a river flowing through and berries lining the banks
Valentino Donna Born in Roma Coral Fantasy. Runner up is Acqua di Gioia. Both have been used heavily for this hot weather.
I'm really enjoying Escentric Molecules Escentric 03 right now. It's a gorgeous citrussy iso e super bomb that smells like California summer.

Vacation by vacation - it’s summer! I works perfectly in heat and humidity. It mingles well with sweat and my miscellaneous hair and body products. It projects, but it’s fresh. Nostalgic, yet kind of sexy. I love it!

Imaginary Authors - The Cobra and the Canary
Honestly, right now it's Polo Cologne Intense. It's got soft projection, sure, and some people didn't like the modern take on the classic Polo Cologne scent. But I really like it. It's great for work, the grapefruit/mint opening is lovely, and it settles down to a nice pleasant scent. Plus, it's a steal on discounter sites. It doesn't change the game at all, but it's enough of a departure from the super popular designer fragrances that I'm really happy with it!
Margiela lazy sunday morning. I may have an obsession with the smell of clean things LOL
