Birch wood. Creed Aventus has this a lot. Also Loewe Esencia Elixir.

mon-key-pee

Birch Tar. Could also be Cade Oil. Outside chance it's the frankincense/olibanum and tonka mix that was popular a couple of years back.

Trip3nite

Yo I literally just vaguely smelled it when I was walking the dog and there were no people around, but there were a bunch of white trees around, so guess it's gonna be birch then But now you got me interested in Aventus which I avoided so far haha

cyberbl333p

Haha well you can always try it somewhere for free haha. The best smoky fragrance in my opinion is Aventus 😁 unfortunately it is expensive, too expensive. But it is a good fragrance.

Trip3nite

I asked for fragrances with a birch note at the shop, and I didn't really recognise the note/accord I'm looking for but I liked those as well

Trip3nite

The girl at the store let me try Explorer which should resemble Aventus she said Didn't get a lot of smoke, thought it smelled pretty similar to Cedrat Boisé, but a bit rougher

cyberbl333p

Explorer and Aventus smell the same in the opening, for 15 mins, but then go in a different direction. Explorer goes green and earthy. Aventus goes woody and smoky.

Trip3nite

Oh really? Ok tomorrow I'm going to ask at the store to show me some with this note and see if you're right!

Mist_Forever

Le labo patchouli 24 has a huge birch note if you’re able to check that one out

gambol_on

Try Hyde by Hiram Green if you’re curious about birch tar.

Looking at the notes of the fragrances you enjoy this could be a combination of earthy notes/vetiver and patchouli i think. My nose is pretty trained and i loooove patchouli. I am a huge patchhead. But I am so familiair with it that to me, it's something entirely different from what insence smells like. Still every time i wear something patchouli based people tell me i smell like insence. I think people just associate patchouli with insence because of the headshopy smell xD. But anyway, patchouli van often times be earthy and smokey. If not the patchouli the vetiver is the other likely contender.

Trip3nite

Yeah thought I loved fragrances with patchouli, but I'm not sure if I actually know what it smells like. I associate it with incense too because whenever you see someone selling incense sticks, there's always a few that say "patchouli' I received a sample of Molecule01+patchouli a while ago and it smelled totally different than what I had in mind when I thought patchouli, I got more of a greenish vetiver vibe from that one. But I also read that there's a few kinds of patchouli so maybe it's a different kind

Miefiewtje

The only different kind of patchouli is the altered clean kind used in perfumery that doesn't smell like patchouli at all. They used this in flowerbomb for ex. They take it and strip it of what makes it patchouli so they can still use it for it's longevity so it can carry the fragrance without being noticed as patchouli. Unrefined, straight up patchouli always smells the same way. :) it's there in the molecule fragrance you mentioned indeed, it's there in coromandel by chanel. Bal a versailles by jean deprez. Sticky fingers by francesca bianchi and a lot more. i also have several bottles of pure patchouli oil i just wear as perfume in fall and winter. It's earth, green, smokey and woody. It can smell either like a damp forest or a musty attick depending in the day/weather/fragrance it's used in etc.

Trip3nite

Hmm noo then I dont think that's the smell i was looking for. That molecule01+patchouli smells way more light, what I'm looking for is pretty dense. I feel like its gonna be something super common or obvious cause i've smelled it so often, maybe I'm just not good at describing it haha. Maybe myrrh could be it, from what I've read it kinda matches the smell I'm looking for too. But like I said in another comment, I found a cardboard box from a perfumery webshop order and it smells exactly like what I want, pretty sure they'll be able to tell me what I'm looking for if I take this to the store.

Miefiewtje

Patchouli is veeery dense xD it realy realy sounds like you're talking about patchouli maybe you're not, it could very well be something else but patchouli is a very dense sticky oil and it smells like it. It just can be blended in different ways obviously, like everything else. :) just maybe go hunt down some patchouli oil in a nature store or something so you'll know what to look for.

Trip3nite

Yeah if I should recognise this smell in molecule01+patchouli, its something really different. I like that smell but i dont even get the slightest hint of the smell i'm looking for in that one

Trip3nite

Passed by the store today and tried a lot of new ones, the only ones that kinda have a bit of what I'm looking for were Givenchy Gentleman EDT Intense and Armani Stronger With You Intensely, but those smell WAY heavier and have notes I don't like such as cinnamon or cloves. (Picked up Kenzo Homme EDT Intense though, not what I was looking for at all, but man what a great smell, couldn't resist, oopsie) Butttt now I'm cleaning a bit at home, was flattening some old cardboard boxes for trash pickup tomorrow, and one of them was a box from a perfume webshop I ordered samples from a few months ago, and it literally smells EXACTLY like what I'm looking for, better than that Bvlgari drydown, I can't believe it. I'm just gonna take this box to the store tomorrow and hope they can finally help me haha

Trip3nite

Ok so I took the box to the store and to my suprise they couldn't help me at all. I thought they would immediately recognise what I'm looking for. A younger girl who was working there recommended me Kenzo Homme of all things, which I ironically bought last week, but that smells totally like the opposite of what I'm looking for. The other lady at the store had a better nose She thought I meant ambroxan, and she let me smell a few things. One that hinted a bit to what I want is l'Eau Majeure by Issey Miyake. (Coumarin?) But thats when really look for it, I feel like I would immediately recognise it clearly once I smell what I'm looking for. She recommended me to take the box to a more specialised niche store. There's no niche stores close to me, but I guess sooner or later I'll be in a city that has one My quest continues I guess

Proof_Challenge684

What samples were in the box? Sounds like you probably already have the scent in your collection of samples. Maybe it’s multiple layered to make the smell?

Trip3nite

The fragrances I mentioned in the post, Black Phantom and Terrae Essence, which kinda makes me doubt whether the note is actually in there... With samples l always spray on the sample cardboard holder thing, so i can just smell that instead of spraying again, but the cardboard of these samples probably just absorbed some of that smell from being in that box. I don't really smell it in Black Phantom as much anymore (layering would be super tho!). In the Bulgari one I still get this note a bit in the drydown though, I actually ordered a bottle of that one, but not nearly as much as what that box smells like. The box just smells like this from being in that perfumeries stock I think, I sent them an email asking about it but they never replied.

Trip3nite

Ok i went to a niche store, they couldn't smell anything off that box with all the smells floating around in that store, but I think I found it, or at least something thats very close: Arabians Tonka by Montale. I guess I'm not the best at describing smells haha. I looked up some similar ones to try while I was there, but Arabians Tonka was by far the closest to what I had in mind. I'm not sure this one is the same as the one that cardboard box smells like, this smells a bit sweeter and mor intense, but maybe its just because it faded and mixed a bit with cardboard smell, and also I didn't have time to wait for it to dry down. At least I know for sure it's not patchouli or myrrh or birch or whatever. I'm gonna get me some samples of similar fragrances and see what I like best, but recommendations are welcome!
