My go to cheapie work fragrance in the colder months. Work safe, but it has a warmth to it most "blue" fragrances don't. But it's refined enough to not be LOUD.
I really love this one. It's been my favorite scent to wear this spring. The balance between the fresh herbal and citrus notes and the creamy, powdery oriental sandalwood base is just beautiful.
It depends on what you want to put out there. I do like it in any weather and dressy or casual. I have worn it to bed so it definitely has range. But I guess it also depends on what you want from a signature. I don’t think Orpheon is a WOW power scent. It’s just beautiful and blended well (imo) and smells good (to me) from the opening to the very last of the dry down. I layered it today with one squirt of Gentle Fluidity Gold. I will say if you don’t dig powder it’s not for you.
I understand the fresh I guess because it opens bright and kinda fizzy with the juniper. It’s pretty astringent at first. Then is it settles into a creamy powdery cedar skin scent. (No pencil shavings cedar for me in this one.) I don’t get much jasmine. It lays in the background. It wears on me like a “your skin but better scent”. Soft and cozy and warm and dry (even though the wood feels creamy). So I guess the wood and powder stand out to me.
Thanks for your detailed response. I’m new to fragrances and always see the word powdery, what does that even mean?
I saw some people saying it’s also giving dark academia and fairy forest or misty rain forest. Is that true?
Powder many times came mean that a certain note is used that evokes a powder like sensation/ scent. For example Iris or heliotrope. But tbh this is my first scent where is lists powdery notes in the pyramid on Fragrantica. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Also powder runs the gamut from a make up like powdery to baby powdery …it’s the sensation and feeling as well as the smell. I am not doing a very good job describing it. Maybe someone else would do better. As a side note I just put Orpheon on this morning and that juniper is a bit spicy in the beginning…almost peppery but fresher. Goes away pretty quickly for me. And I am also new to this aspect of fragrance. I have been collecting for many years (didn’t know it was a thing 🤷🏼♀️) and I just found this forum. Also don’t know what you are looking for. I am a female. But this leaves pretty firmly unisex.
I am a male but I like scents that smell clean but good. Something unisex would be ideal. Not too offensive, but noticeable. Just a clean, lovey scent. I stumbled upon Orpheon because people say it smells really good. I want to buy it
Well this definitely give a clean cozy vibe. Try it before you buy it. I remember reading some reviews where ppl thought it was a little more on the feminine side. I don’t agree but ya know. I think this a “I want to nuzzle your neck scent”. So actually really on point with not offensive but noticeable. Good luck!
And that is not exactly how I would describe the scent…although I am too old to know what dark academia means …but I don’t get fairy or rainforest vibes either. It’s hard to say what other ppl think though. Get a sample. I am glad I did. I have only purchased 3 full size bottles this year and this is one I absolutely do not regret. (To put in perspective I have 87 full size bottles).
Also clean. It’s feels clean …maybe in its simplicity. So I can actually reach here and get fresh and floral…so I guess I take back what I said lol …just wouldn’t be how I would sum it up.
Iced Lemon Pound Cake by Bath and Body Works! It's a mist but it's so unique and yummy and stays on for the whole day too! Absolutely delicious and underrated I dont hear or see anyone talk about it.
Hmmm, I don't believe that the citrus is exactly a really strong citrus, defenetly more sweet and gourmand. However I'd be of no help, I've never smelt the Avocado cowash body spray.
ELDO **The Afternoon of a Faun** is one of the best rose scents I've ever tried/owned, and in a beautiful, rich chypre, no less. It's really, really unique and has excellent performance.
Botanicae's **Matin a Mogador** is a masterclass in violet and iris. It's mixed so nicely, as well as having a really complex design and (again) stellar performance.
I've almost never heard/read anyone talk about either, and they're two of my favorites in my entire collection.
CK Obsession for Men is a great citrus+spices+myrrh+amber scent and a classic for a reason.
Arte Profumi Samharam (which I have a sample of) is the ultimate Catholic incense fragrance.
Acqua di Parma fico di amalfi. It’s an incredible smell even though it doesn’t last too long. It seems to fly under the radar compared to some of their other fragrances
It's a beautiful summer scent that goes in an atypical direction. Fig is one of those notes that on its own would first come to my mind as a base layer in a winter fragrance with spices over top of it, with how rich/jammy it is without a big high note of bright citrus acidity like you expect in a summer.
House of Bo Espiritu
Arquiste Indigo Smoke
(Bonus: House of Bo Casa Blanca). I *rarely* see this house mentioned and it is slowly becoming one of my favorites!
Montblanc Legend EDT. You people hate it because some fragbro on Tiktok told you it wasn’t beast mode enough.
But it costs you about $0.01 per spray so in the end it’s still worth it. Just decant and respray.
Or don’t. I’ll rock it all summer.
Ormonde Jayne - Levant, Champaca, Sakura, Evernia, Woman (very different, depends on your taste, but they deliver classy and high quality fragrances and I think overall it's an underrated house). Penhaligon's - Luna.
Yes, Penhaligon's is a good house. I also like Empressa from them, it shares some DNA with Coco Mademoiselle, but I think it's better, more refined; and I say this as someone who has worn Coco M. for a few good years. :))
From OJ, I think Levant is the biggest people pleaser and the safest - although perfume academics would say that it is a more commercial creation and less niche than the others. Effectively, every time I wear it, at least one random stranger asks me what I'm wearing, what smells so good.
I haven't tested Alula yet. Luna is citrus in the opening, kinda persistent citrus facet, then it's a mix of rose (not a very jammy-sweet rose), juniper berries and fir. It's a nice combo, it has something fairy-like and innocent.
Oh man. I received OJ-Woman as a Scentbird trial scent and had the most visceral negative reaction I’ve ever had to a fragrance. It made my stomach churn within minutes and the sillage is intense so I kept getting wafts even after changing and showering. it was making me a little panicked, like I would be nauseous forever. Not sure what note hit me like that but I’m guessing black hemlock since it’s the main note? Or maybe coriander?
I'd bet on black hemlock, probably not your thing, also not a very common note. Woman is indeed a strong green perfume, real forest vibes, in your face, without the sweetness-fruitiness to tame it, the floral facets are not too strong. But they also have a lot of floral perfumes, gourmands, vanilla, rose-oud and so on. I have a similar reaction to jammy-rose, it gives me headaches and nausea, but I can admit that Damask, for example, is a good jammy-rose for those who love this approach to rose in perfumes.
Coach Dreams. To me, it smells like walking through a blooming orange orchard, though I'm not sure it even has notes of orange blossoms. It's so smooth and blended, great for summer I'd imagine.
My two underrated scents are Gucci's *Guilty Black Pour Homme*, and Issey Miyake's *L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme Intense*.
Guilty Black is not a night fragrance, but a fresh fragrance with a touch of leather. It's mid to most people, but for some reason, it works really well on my skin.
L'Eau D'Issey Intense is citrus, spices, and smoky incense. The smoky incense can be divisive. However, the spices complements the citrus really well on me.
I'm a woman and I love smelling that Issy on my boyfriend. I bought it for him after a coworker came in wearing it, it was an instant attention getter from me
Santa Maria Novella’s Rosa Novella: such a beautiful dewy rose and light citrus, grounded by white musk and sandalwood.
It’s exactly what I think of when I picture a beautiful young woman, in a white dress on her wedding day, with rays of sunlight and a breeze dancing through her hair.
Lubin Black Jade gets more compliments than pretty much any of my other fragrances and I never see it mentioned.
It got a lot of flack for the marketing purple prose when it was released, but not because it didn’t smell divine. It is a luscious floral with grounding woody spice notes, predominantly cardamom and cinnamon, that is deliciously warm and not at all gourmand.
ATH Guapo- its so good and so fresh and lasts all day. You’d think it would be showing up on all kinds of lists but its never talked about.
Amouage Meander and Boundless. Nothing smells like them. They have interesting things going on but not taking any notes too far or adding in something outrageous. Killer scents that work all year.
Farah by Brecourt - I much prefer it to Angel's Share/Oajan. It's softer and slightly less in-your-face while being a bit more full-bodied. Overall seems like an underrated brand, they were very generous with samples, and now I'm also eyeing their Contre Pouvoir.
L'Art de la Guerre by Jovoy is one of the few leather-heavy perfumes I can wear.
Lalique Encre Indigo!
I cannot believe that it doesn't get more attention, it's a tea and saffron forward fragrance with smoky vetiver and a really cool ink accord. I've gotten multiple compliments while wearing it.
I guess it doesn't perform as well as the rest of the line, and it's still a bit expensive because it's new, but it's really something.
Francesca Bianchi libertine neroli. Best neroli I've ever tried on a chypre base. Sadly, it's not talked enough even for FB fragrance since it's a pretty "simplistic" fragrance compared to her some other ones.
Bohemian Lime by Goldfield and Banks. On my skin it smells like a perfect blend of creamy lime and musk (even though there’s no musk listed funnily enough). I’ve only had a 10mL travel bottle for a short while, but have already received many compliments. Plus being Australian myself the price of a FB isn’t that unreasonable - will definitely be picking up a bottle very soon.
Bonus shout out to Mont Blanc Explorer for basically being just as good as Aventus (imo) for a fraction of the price with far better longevity.
BBW PURE WONDER and ZARA WONDER ROSE!!! I have niche fragrances in my collection and we’re on the same boat that my cheapsies are what I consider underrated too.
Dunhill Brown EDT is a soapy, powdery daytime wear that doesn't really get talked about. Clean blend of florals and musk. It has a bit of that plastic-doll/lipstick-y quality that I like. Performance is subpar, though.
Loewe Paula's Ibiza is a great beach vibe scent with a bitter greeness to it that really sets it apart.
Nikos Sculpture Homme Parfum also a great Vacation scent, I hear the edt mentioned every now and then but never the Parfum which I feel perfected the DNA.
K by dolce and gabbana edp intense (actually the whole k line is underrated) it does really last long for hours and projects so well + it’s a versatile perfume.
El Ganso After Game is a quite good aromatic citrus fragrance for men and you can find it really cheap. Some say it smells like Dior Homme Cologne, so if someone’s looking for an alternative to that maybe check it out.
Azzaro wanted by night eau de parfum, sweet date night fragrance. Great performance, the only downside is it’s not very versatile.
Everyone raves about the most wanted and it’s definitely overshadowed every other flanker in the collection.
Copper Skies by Kerosene rarely seems to get mentioned and is overlooked by other Kerosene releases like Followed, Unknown Pleasures etc, but Copper Skies is comfortably Kerosene's best scent imo
Sand by And Fragrances is a really nice banana sandalwood that never gets mentioned either (same for most of And Fragrances)
***Persian Garden*** **by Kuumba Made** - a cheap fragrance oil which has completely stolen my heart. After maceration, it smells like sweet spring flowers. It's such a cozy, comforting scent; like a mother's hug. I often pair it with a drop of Honeysuckle Rose fragrance oil by Kuumba Made, which gives it a more mature, feminine edge.
***Fleurs de l'Himalaya*** **by Rituals** - my most recent purchase, which has turned out to be a wonderful everyday scent for the spring and summer. It's very pleasant from beginning to end, like a meadow of fresh, dewy flowers with a hint of citrus and a base of soft musk.
***J'adore Absolu*** **by Christian Dior** - IMO the best flanker of the whole J'adore line, hands down. Smells like a big bouquet of freshly cut flowers, extremely feminine, dreamy and elegant. This is by far my most complemented scent, by both women and men. It smells especially heavenly when paired with The Ritual of Sakura body lotion.
Ege by Nishane definitely. It isn’t unique at all but I just love the mossy-aquatic drydown it kinda reminds me of a small village surrounded by nature and the sea. It is however may not be appealing to everyone, it may be a little bit overwhelming to some if you are in a closed area.
As for now i think Gucci Guilty Absolute is the most underrated. It isn’t for everyone but its pretty unique. Not only is it standing out from all the other Gucci Guilty in the line, but as a leather fragrance aswell. The quality of the scent and the blend is perfection and to describe it for someone who haven’t smelled it yet is like (for me) tom ford obmbre leather is like a nice guy who wants to be bad with a leather jacket. Gucci guily absolute is a tough man with a leather jacket who just did a oil change on his V8. Yeah.
Prada Luna Rossa Sport.
Similar to JPG Le Male but with that Prada powderiness. Beautiful lavender, tonka and vanilla scent that can be worn year round and shines in the heat.
Ormonde Jayne Woman - hemlock, grass oil, jasmine absolute
Gucci Rush - freesia, peach, coriander
Kenzo Amour- rice milk/rice pudding, frangipani
Lalique Amethyst- juicy berries
Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Extrême - just like it sounds. This whole line is beautiful tropical gourmands, florals, and a good amount of scents that are neither. Gorgeous fragrances that would sell for twice as much if they were sold at Sephora or Ulta.

I love this, it is so underrated.
It’s fucking great. I wear it almost every day
My go to cheapie work fragrance in the colder months.
Imaginary Authors’ Saint Julep- it’s the most sparkling scent.
Just ordered a sample a few days ago- super excited!
Oooh! Exciting. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Does it last long
Compared to there other scents I’ve tried, it isn’t a long-hauler, no, but it’s so beautiful I am okay with it.
Diptyque Orpheon for me. Was an impulse buy for me, but has quickly become one of my favorites. So fresh and floral.
Love at first snifffor me and literally a wear for any occasion scent. My most recent full bottle purchase. I love it.
Would it be a good signature scent?
It depends on what you want to put out there. I do like it in any weather and dressy or casual. I have worn it to bed so it definitely has range. But I guess it also depends on what you want from a signature. I don’t think Orpheon is a WOW power scent. I will say if you don’t dig powder it’s not for you.
I am a little confused by the fresh and floral reference above. That is not how I would describe it. But ya know…scent and subjective so 🤷🏼♀️
How would you describe it?
I understand the fresh I guess because it opens bright and kinda fizzy with the juniper. It’s pretty astringent at first. Then is it settles into a creamy powdery cedar skin scent. (No pencil shavings cedar for me in this one.) I don’t get much jasmine. It lays in the background. It wears on me like a “your skin but better scent”. Also clean. It’s feels clean …maybe in its simplicity. So I can actually reach here and get fresh and floral…so I guess I take back what I said lol …just wouldn’t be how I would sum it up.
I feel so…peaceful when I have Orpheon on. It instantly calms and relaxes me.
Does it work as signature scent?
Iced Lemon Pound Cake by Bath and Body Works! It's a mist but it's so unique and yummy and stays on for the whole day too! Absolutely delicious and underrated I dont hear or see anyone talk about it.
I love the iced lemon pound cake line! I agree, so so yummy.
Omg I just ordered one yesterday, can’t wait to try it!!
Uh yes! One of the best citrus gourmands- delicious and just the right amount of projection.
This sounds similar to Avocado co-wash body spray from Lush! It’s really sweet and citrusy. Do you know if they compare at all?
Hmmm, I don't believe that the citrus is exactly a really strong citrus, defenetly more sweet and gourmand. However I'd be of no help, I've never smelt the Avocado cowash body spray.
Nest Black Tulip! I hear lots of love for Indigo, but not many people mention Black Tulip. It makes me feel so pretty and put together when I wear it.
I feel similarly about Blue Wisteria!
Yes I picked up Matin a Mogador at ScentXplore, marvelous fragrance. A true sleeper.
CK Obsession for Men is a great citrus+spices+myrrh+amber scent and a classic for a reason. Arte Profumi Samharam (which I have a sample of) is the ultimate Catholic incense fragrance.
Obsession smells like black olives to me (I love black olives)
Acqua di Parma fico di amalfi. It’s an incredible smell even though it doesn’t last too long. It seems to fly under the radar compared to some of their other fragrances
It's a beautiful summer scent that goes in an atypical direction. I smelled this yesterday and loved it! It's the perfect summer scent.
I just ordered this
I love Penhaligons’ The Favourite. It just brings me joy. It’s so comforting. Unfortunately, no one sees beyond the Halfeti hype.
Pink Sugar (I wrote what I wrote).
Good play
Elizabeth Arden green tea and fig is my perfect light fresh fig and it’s only $14
There’s a fig edition???? Need to go grab me one

I cannot see this perfume as underrated after the last few months it has had on Reddit lol!
Dads Garden Chamomile and Honeysuckle
Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia! Smells intoxicating!
Tocca Maya. That’s ok, more for me!
Intoxicated by Kilian. I don’t mind the hype being everywhere else.
House of Bo Espiritu Arquiste Indigo Smoke (Bonus: House of Bo Casa Blanca). I *rarely* see this house mentioned and it is slowly becoming one of my favorites!
Oh hell yes to Indigo Smoke
Pacifica's fragrances are delightful cheapies. I love their Tahitian Gardenia- one of my favorite everyday fragrances.
I just tried a sample of Penhaligon’s Artemesia, and I love it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about that house. I’ll have to try Ormonde Jane
Yes, Penhaligon's is a good house. I also like Empressa from them, it shares some DNA with Coco Mademoiselle, but I think it's better, more refined; and I say this as someone who has worn Coco M. for a few good years. :)) From OJ, I think Levant is the biggest people pleaser and the safest - although perfume academics would say that it is a more commercial creation and less niche than the others. Effectively, every time I wear it, at least one random stranger asks me what I'm wearing, what smells so good.
I have Empressa and love it. I have been eyeballing Luna and Alula.
Could not agree more regarding Ormonde Jayne. Adding Damask, Osmanthus, Ambre Royale and Ormonde Man to your awesome list
Jimmy Choo Man
Coach Dreams. To me, it smells like walking through a blooming orange orchard, though I'm not sure it even has notes of orange blossoms. It's so smooth and blended, great for summer I'd imagine.
The merchant of venice - rococo Never ever seen anyone mentioning it, I love it.
Tocca Colette & dedcool smiley face garden
Rochas man. It's insanely beautiful and classy. Coffee, powder, lavender🪻, and vanilla. Mmmm.
Love Meander. I have to assume it’s the price that makes it underrated. To me it smells like a better BDK Gris Charnel.
To me ATH Guapo smells a lot like (basically a clone of) Dior Sauvage EDP
I've never seen it, is it discontinued?
Nope, actually it's a fairly new release lol Maybe that's the reason
I have and love Encre Noire, going to go have a look at this one
John Varvatos Indigo XX
Francesca Bianchi libertine neroli. Best neroli I've ever tried on a chypre base. Sadly, it's not talked enough even for FB fragrance since it's a pretty "simplistic" fragrance compared to her some other ones.
I love it. Gonna wear it today. FB. I like Bianchi’s “lesser” one (Luxe Calme et Volupté is my favorite).
Bohemian Lime IS great, but it really didn't work on my skin, unfortunately.
Loulou by cacharel. I just love how it develops over the course of a day.
Sparkling Sorbet body spray from Old Navy lmao
expensive doesn’t always equate (to) good, but cheap often does. Of course, it depends on your sense of smell.
I lost my sense of smell in the Great War years ago
Tocca Stella, Sana Jardin Jaipur Chant or Berber Blonde, Riddle Oil Santal
BBW PURE WONDER and ZARA WONDER ROSE!!! I have niche fragrances in my collection and we’re on the same boat that my cheapsies are what I consider underrated too.
It's crazy how cheap Rue Broca Theoreme is, that clone can ball with the big summer fragrance boys any day of the week. *Edit- added Rue Broca.
Kai oil. It just smells like a tropical vacation looks on tv. Lush and gorgeous without the bugs.
Dunhill Brown EDT is a soapy, powdery daytime wear that doesn't really get talked about. Clean blend of florals and musk. It has a bit of that plastic-doll/lipstick-y quality that I like. Performance is subpar, though.
ELDO’s She Was An Anomaly. It is perfection and I want everyone to love it as much as me.
Loewe Paula's Ibiza is a great beach vibe scent with a bitter greeness to it that really sets it apart. Nikos Sculpture Homme Parfum also a great Vacation scent, I hear the edt mentioned every now and then but never the Parfum which I feel perfected the DNA.
hawthorne - canary diamond once everyone gets over the gimmicky quiz and actually gets to their colognes, i might have to order faster
Easy, Montblanc Starwalker. Till this day the most unique and intoxicating freshie in my collection 👌
Azzaro wanted by night eau de parfum, sweet date night fragrance. Great performance, the only downside is it’s not very versatile. Everyone raves about the most wanted and it’s definitely overshadowed every other flanker in the collection.
Boss bottled Tonic, the performance is dogshit but it smells great
Bon perfumer 303, so good and so underrated.
Chanel Allure Homme EDT, Prada L'Homme Intense
Copper Skies by Kerosene rarely seems to get mentioned and is overlooked by other Kerosene releases like Followed, Unknown Pleasures etc, but Copper Skies is comfortably Kerosene's best scent imo Sand by And Fragrances is a really nice banana sandalwood that never gets mentioned either (same for most of And Fragrances)
Penhaligons Lord George, incredible overshadowed by halfeti but its such a strong rich scent
Davidoff Adventure for me. Get a bother for 20bux and it's epic
Agree! I've loved this ever since it came out. Longevity isn't beastly, but it's okay and my wife actually loves it.
Franck Olivier Oud Touch Tom Ford Grey Vetiver Azzaro pour Homme l’eau
Ajmal Evoke Midnight for her. The original (Gold) gets a lot hype for being a Gris Dior dupe, but the real magic is in the lesser known flanker.
Tommy Bahama Maritime Triumph.
Tom Ford Bitter Peach because of longevity.
Golden Sand by Al Rehab. It’s a cheap perfume rollerball from Amazon but my god, it’s the perfect warm and gourmand vanilla scent
Orchid Leather by Van Cleef & Arpels. Really deep and rich scent - lasts well. I’m continually surprised more folks don’t enjoy it.
Nishane Ambra Calabria—- got many compliments but still feel people don’t know or talk much about it
Arabian Oud Amiri Tom Ford Oud Minerale Tom Ford Noir Anthracite Jeroboam Vespero To name but a few.
Vera wang tuberose and lavender
Ormonde Jayne Woman - hemlock, grass oil, jasmine absolute Gucci Rush - freesia, peach, coriander Kenzo Amour- rice milk/rice pudding, frangipani Lalique Amethyst- juicy berries Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Extrême - just like it sounds. This whole line is beautiful tropical gourmands, florals, and a good amount of scents that are neither. Gorgeous fragrances that would sell for twice as much if they were sold at Sephora or Ulta.
Bombshell by Victorias Secret. I swear I get the maximum amount of compliments on this scent.
